Dd1 2 and dd2 3 but still having occasional accidents until 4

Dontwanttobeanebsnamum · 09/07/2025 16:09

DD1 was 22 months and got it straight away
DD2 Just turned 2 and was having wee accidents until she turned 3.

tartyflette · 09/07/2025 16:09

About 2-1/2, left it until we were on holiday in France in a farmhouse with a stone floor!
Worked well despite our unhelpful health visitor who thought we were both pushing him and holding him back.🙄

30 years in childcare most are 30 to 36 months a few just after second birthday but took longer and lots of regression when things changed in their lives. The older ones got it in days and few accidents. It's the 4 year olds going into reception that are the real problem.

2 years 6 months and 3 years 2 months, both girls

comfyshoes2022 · 09/07/2025 16:18

Thank you this makes me feel a lot better. 2.5 here, great communication, but no inclination to go on the potty/toilet, just don’t think they are ready.

The boys were 2 1/2, girl was 3 and 2 months. People were very judgy about 3 year old DD but she and I decided one day to put on pants and she was dry from day 1 (at night too) so I didn’t regret it.

BlueRin5eBrigade · 09/07/2025 18:49

2 1/2 and 3 and 2 months.

Dueindecemberr · 09/07/2025 19:14

ds1 2.5
dd one month off 3
ds2 just before his 2nd birthday

The boys were SO easy. Dd on the other hand….!

Gymmum82 · 09/07/2025 20:07

Dd1 was 2.5. Looking back I gave up too quickly. Tried at 2 and 2 months but because she didn’t immediately get it I thought she wasn’t ready.
DD2 was just before her 2nd birthday. I persevered with her and she got it very quickly

Greenbird88 · 09/07/2025 20:18

DS was just turned 3. We picked a day and went with it and he got it straight away. Glad we didn’t waste any time worrying about it before that, despite plenty of people telling us we’d left it too late so would struggle Hmm

Eastendboysandwestendgirls · 09/07/2025 20:19

2 1/2 day, 3 night.

mummysmagicmedicine · 09/07/2025 20:19

DC1 was just turned 2. DC2 about 3.5 just wasn’t ready until then.

TimSamandLulu · 09/07/2025 20:21

One was just turned 3 and one was 3 years 5 months, both boys. Both had multiple failed attempts previously. 3 year old continued to have accidents for months. Other one was much more reliable once trained. I hated potty training!

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 09/07/2025 20:22

My eldest was almost 3. My youngest was about 3 and a half.

Both cracked it within days. It was surprisingly easy. I think it helps to wait until they’re actually ready instead of forcing it.

NuffSaidSam · 09/07/2025 20:22

I've worked as a nanny for many years and all of the children I've cared for have been day trained somewhere between two and three, the majority around the 2.5 mark. Some got it immediately and some took longer to grasp it. Some still had occasional accidents after a few months of being trained, others never had a single accident after the first day. They're all different.

2chocolateoranges · 09/07/2025 20:23

ds was 2.2 years old , dry during day and wore a nappy at night for 6 months.
dd was 2.4 years old and was dry day and night within days, refused a nappy.

i work in early years , this time last year we had 17 , 3 year olds still in nappies, down to 7or 8 now. It’s just ridiculous.

MadKittenWoman · 09/07/2025 20:23

DS 2 years 3 months. I apparently toilet trained myself at 11 months when I started walking (terry nappies).

BurningBenches · 09/07/2025 20:24

eldest daughter 2yrs 4m
second daughter was dry at home from 22m wasn’t reliable until 2yrs 4m
3rd daughter 3yrs 1m - but dry day and night. She was ready before but stubborn.
Son - 2yrs 4m
4th daughter - 19m. Which was a shock.

aRightNowProblem · 09/07/2025 20:24

Ds1 was 3 1/2- took to it immediately with literally no accidents afterwards

ds2 is approaching 3 and we have tried a few times but he doesn’t seem quite ready but not worried and definitely not going to pressure him.

Again read all the books earlier, talked about it, got a potty out etc but in the end didn’t want to put too much pressure on them and give them a complex about it all.

TheSeventh · 09/07/2025 20:24

Sons about 27 months, daughter 22 months.

MsNevermore · 09/07/2025 20:24

DC1 had just turned 2 - it coincided with her starting preschool. We had a potty at home, but hadn’t really started potty training properly. But I think her seeing the older kids at preschool going to the toilets instead of having nappy changes clicked it in her little brain.

DC2 was around the same age, and was by far the easiest. He’s very close in age to DC1, and he more or less just copied what she was doing and potty trained himself 🤷🏻‍♀️😂 very little effort on my part.

DC3 was closer to 3 years old. Took a fair bit longer than the other two as well.

EasyTouch · 09/07/2025 20:25

Just under two years old. She was eager to imitate me sitting on the toilet, so hardly even spent time on the potty. I had to get a cushion thingy for the toilet and a step stool, too.
She never wet the bed, either.
