Potty Training During Lockdown!

So now seems like a better time than any and I've decided to potty train my 2yo dd during quarantine! I haven't potty trained for about 10 years and that was with my ds. I've bought her a potty a few weeks ago just to get her used to it but she's still not keen on sitting on it. Any tips please?

@TwistyHair try Princess Polly! Dd likes pressing the cheer button, although she did go through a stage of carrying it around and making it cheer whenever she did anything...

Disappointing day so far here... two massive wee accidents, frustratingly when I put her on the potty literally a minute before, and she shouted no and ran off... ugh!

TwistyHair · 27/04/2020 15:36

She did one!! Finally. She said she was scared but she didn’t burst into tears this time and didn’t really sound frightened. So that’s good. We’re now doing playdo. I’ve made a toilet and some tiny poos and a little person. Play therapy.

babycornplease · 27/04/2020 16:11

@TwistyHair haha that's brilliant! The things we do, eh?!

TwistyHair · 27/04/2020 16:14

Serious, it’s like our lives are dominate by poo atm! How is it going for you?

Jannt86 · 27/04/2020 17:08

So my little one is teething and her poos have been a bit sloppy today but I'm very proud that she's still managed to get to the potty with no accidents. I too feel I'm getting a little poo obsessed though.... so much so that I called my hubby away from his work laughing hysterically because she'd done one that looked exactly like the poo emoji GrinBlush Hope everyone else's training is going well xx

TwistyHair · 27/04/2020 17:13

@jannt that’s amazing

babycornplease · 27/04/2020 17:47

@TwistyHair swings and roundabouts here. Think I said earlier that she had two massive wee accidents but this afternoon we've had more success, including a giant poo in the potty.

Work are really piling it on at the moment and I just feel so stressed as I can't do any whilst she's awake, as she literally will not sit still, and by the time she's in bed I am absolutely exhausted... feel like I am overwhelmed, grumpy, snappy mummy today Sad

She was dry for her afternoon nap though today, which she hasn't been for a while since we started potty training, so maybe that's a good sign?

Hello. I've not read the whole thread but looking to join you mums who are doing OCPT book.
We are on day 3 with DD who is 28months.
Still naked waist down but with jumper and socks on as she feels the cold really easily. So far we have progressed well in that she knows when she starts to go and has a little dribble and she will do the motion of getting on the potty. It seems she's pretty afraid of letting go (literally!) and so we have to keep he on the pot until she does - most of the time she really seems to panic as she feels it start to come out but then will finish.
We've therefore had lots of getting on the pot which is great, but also lots of getting back off again with just a few drops in there. Given her age and her communication / holding skills I think she is ready but is this just a hurdle for them?
Am thinking of it in relation to say eating with a spoon. They get the idea but it takes a long time for it to sink in.
Anyone had anything similar?
Thank you in advance Smile

@babycornplease it sounds so hard to be having to work and have a child at home and potty train. It sounds like she pretty much gets what to do though. I guess the worse that happens is she takes a bit longer than if you weren’t working and could be on it the whole time. But that’s not the end of the world. (Even though it may feel like it when you’re overwhelmed)

TwistyHair · 27/04/2020 19:14

@SummerHopin we didn’t do oh crap and just went straight to leggings and/or pants. I decided that if she couldn’t get it with pants on then I didn’t want to do it. It’s good that she can stop herself and then let go. We had a bit of that where she’d get so excited by the fact that she was weeing that she’d then clench you and stop her wee, thinking she was done.

babycornplease · 27/04/2020 19:23

I spoke waaaaay too soon. She's done two poos today in the potty so thought I was safe to go and run her bath, whilst letting mr tumble babysit for 5 mins...

Massive giant poo in her booster AGAIN. I could actually cry. She's not in bed yet and I just don't want to go downstairs because I know I have to clean up the mess. It's going to add another bloody half an hour to my evening!

I don't get how? She's had two fairly sizeable poos today? Where the hell so it coming from????? Just wish I had another pair of hands or eyes... but sadly I can't be everywhere all the bloody time! It's my fault because she probably wanted to go but obviously I have to get stuff done, and I thought it was safe!!!!

Caz1412 · 27/04/2020 19:35

@SummerHopin welcome to the bare bums club! 😆
Only other thing other than what I’m sure you are doing with praise and reassurance is play? Can a doll or a teddy do a big wee to show it’s okay?
It’s getting her past that feeling though, just perseverance I suppose!

TwistyHair · 27/04/2020 19:48

Oh babycorn! What a nightmare. Hopefully tomorrow will be easier now she’s done so much pooing today.

Kle209 · 27/04/2020 19:50

@TwistyHair I feel your pain today with the back and forth!

@babycornplease I have just had to scrub the whole of my downstairs loo because of how the poo got everywhere... I feel your pain too!

We had 3.5 hours of back and forth. My entire afternoon has been going back and forth to the potty, except when I got fed up and left him on it watching tv so I could cook dinner (I could see him, and he could have got up any time but he was captivated!). In the end though, he did a poo on the potty. Plus about 3 more that missed. There was So. Much. Poo. He sat down for the first bit, and I had to persuade him to sit to catch the next, but then more came whilst we were washing our hands, and then when I thought there could be no more, there was more. He even stepped in it at one point, though I managed to stop him walking it everywhere.

He’s pooed every day so I don’t know where it all came from, but he told me his bottom was hurting so I wonder if he was a bit constipated and not doing a full poo each time. It seemed pretty soft though... All in all, it’s not been a very fun afternoon...

Hope everyone else has had a better day!

Indecisivelurcher · 27/04/2020 20:00

So we're in the poo worry land too! Hops between toilet options then ends up not going. So I looked up poo goes to poo land, which I remember as a poor quality black and white story on pdf, from when I was potty training Dd a few years back. Imagine my delight to find an interactive talking, laughing and farting app?! Wtaf?!!! Lmao

Indecisivelurcher · 27/04/2020 20:00

@kle arrrrrrrgh!!!

TwistyHair · 27/04/2020 20:42

@Kle209 oh my shitting god that sounds hardcore! You need a medal. A brown one. Hope tomorrow is better.

@Indecisivelurcher you crack me up. It’s still pretty awful! We had to read it four times while she was sitting on the loo. Plus pirate Pete and stories and the Numberblocks app. I swear she was sat there for about 40 mins. And loads of other back and forths too. It was well over an hour. But still pales in comparison to @kle’s afternoon.

fascinated · 27/04/2020 22:44

Oh, you poor things... poo stories... jeez... fingers crossed for a much better day tomorrow.

I agree about the cutlery analogy - takes time to learn...

LolaLollypop · 28/04/2020 11:09

My DD has decided she wants to wear her nappy pull ups again. Can quite happily poo in the potty or toilet but wants to wear the nappy. Decided to allow it - going to choose my battles when lockdown is on. Pretty sure she is struggling with new baby brother (9 weeks) so will just go with the flow and encourage potty when I can.

SuddenArborealStop · 28/04/2020 17:54

He pooed behind someone's bench out on the road, I got covered my phone got covered, I'm traumatised Sad had to send DH back to poop a scoop Blush

babycornplease · 28/04/2020 18:06

@SuddenArborealStop Grin once you are over the trauma, that's a great story for his 18th!!!! Dare I ask how it all got everywhere?! Or is it too soon to talk about...

We have had a fairly good day, one wee accident in the car, three poos in the potty, just praying she doesn't do her party trick of poo in the booster when I leave her for 0.5 seconds...

She did actually say she needed to go wee wee after her nap, I was trying to brush a massive tangle out of her hair so literally said hold on, and she did a little dribble but managed to hold it til I plonked her on the toilet... quite impressed. Less so at myself for not putting her on the loo before I started faffing with her hair!

SuddenArborealStop · 28/04/2020 18:11

@babycornplease it's not even clear to me and I was there Confused I had to walk him through a group of yummy mummies (so much for social distancing) screaming I poo Blush there is not enough WineGin

fascinated · 28/04/2020 18:15

@sudden — I can’t even imagine the scenario! But defo great story someday! The great Lockdown Poop Scoop Day.

TwistyHair · 28/04/2020 18:15

Oh god the stories get worse!! We’re back on the poo waltz. Back and forth to the toilet. Tiny poos. Crying, scared, trying to get off the seat. I

fascinated · 28/04/2020 18:16

It’s a sign of how I have poo on the brain that I am sat at the dinner table wondering if he has pooed in his shorts... when in fact the culprit is a particularly smelly cheese sitting her next to me on the table! Poor boy being blamed for that!
