Anyone trying to crack potty training over the Easter weekend?

I might be crazy but I'm going to start potty training today in the hope that DS2 cracks it by the time I'm back at work and he's back at nursery on Tuesday.

DS2 is 3.1, but has only really been interested in the potty and aware of wees for the last few weeks.

Anyone else doing potty boot camp this weekend who wants to compare notes?

I gave it a go earlier this week with DD 2.10, she was having none of it Sad
Kept peeing her pants so she could wear a different pair of new pants Grin

Having said that DS was done and dusted within 2 days when he was 3.

Well he's had his nappy off since 8.30 (too lazy to get out of bed before that Blush) but no wees so far ...

He's doing well, ds had about 3 puddles in the first hour! That was saturday afternoon (he's 2.6yrs). We have a two week Easter holiday window before the school run kicks in again.

For the past three days he has only had accidents between 4 and 6:30; when he is tired. Last night though his nappy was dry in the morning (after a bedtime wee), so hoping he is nearly there. Even contemplating an hour and a half drive without nappies (will stop on the way once).

The nursery should be sympathetic, just send in some extra clothes (I know they will have their own, but if he goes through a lot then good to have some spare). Good luck!

Thanks for the encouragement 3dbunnies. We've had one more puddle, no successes yet. I think part of the problem is that he doesn't produce a lot of wee. Trying to get him to drink lots to help this.

Had about half success half failure rate today. For us it's not drinking enough and encouraging her to sit on the potty. Had a particularly disgusting poo in pants incident this afternoon.....hoping tmrw will be better. Using sticker chart and choc buttons as bribes.....

What a way to spend our Easter weekend!

I'm doing this too. Feeling a bit discouraged today - the first two days were about 50-50 hits vs. misses, but today we had 5 accidents in 3 hours...

Trying again tomorrow, but can't see him being ready for nursery without nappies on Tuesday TBH...

It's going disastrously here so far. DS has managed several poos on the potty but not a single wee. He also gets really freaked out when he wets himself.

I've realised that he doesn't wee much, maybe only 4 times per day. So I've been trying to encourage him to drink more. But he's now saying that he doesn't want to drink because he's scared of having a wee SadSadSad. Going to try to be really positive with him tomorrow and find some sneaky ways to get liquid into him.

Aww bless him! We are the opposite - wees going better than poos. Ideas for liquids - those smoothie drinks, ice lollies? DS has been enjoying pretty much unlimited orange juice here!

DS will only drink water and occasionally oat milk with nesquik. He has a dairy allergy and is pretty cautious about flavours, I've never managed to get him to drink juice or eat any frozen dessert. I think I will be offering lots of breakfast cereal with oat milk, water in interesting cups and as much milkshake as he will have.

Hello! So....Day 4 has started today.....we went out yesterday for 2 hours to a farm, I had to I was starting to go stir crazy. Used toilet training pants, bit of a cheat but she did two wees on the big toilet when we were out.

Our problem here is she doesn't tell me when she wants a wee, it's pure guess work. So we're getting through on she goes when I go. She's gone off using the potty and prefers to use the big toilet with me. Have put books by the loo so she can read whilst sat there as the boredom factor was starting to show. Lots of tantrums this weekend, so this is not an experience I want to repeat in a hurry. When do they start telling you they need a wee or a poo??

She did a poo in the big toilet yesterday. She's only a once a day girl, but usually have no idea when. Pure luck she happened to be on the loo when she suddenly looked like she needed a poo. Don't need a repeat of Friday's poo incident in a hurry...

The lack of drink has improved since buying the Cbeebies Something Special magazine on Saturday. there was a free Mr Tumble curly straw. She loves it and has started to drink loads more.....so curly straws definitely recommended!

Think I'm going to be brave tmrw and put her in pants for nursery, but will be packing 2 lots of trousers and toilet training pants. Suspect there will be a fair few accidents as she won't say when she needs the loo.

Feel like burning the Gina Ford potty train in a week book I've got. Why I believed the hype on the back of the book have no idea. Never did like that woman, but apparently by day 4, DD should be trotting off to the loo when she needs to (I'm guessing if Gina were here, she'd also have my DD replacing the loo rolls and giving the loo a bit of toilet duck after Smile God, I don't like that woman!)

I'm on day two, started yesterday, Easter Monday, and have a week more of school holidays so hopefully that will be long enough to have cracked it. DH was home yesterday which made it easier, all alone today though and definitely more misses than hits.
Giving plenty to drink is meaning more wees but that also means more wet knickers. 5 pairs in the last hour!
I hope your returns to nursey went well today. Smile

Hi loubie. Far easier when there's two of you to clean up the messes. I've had the washing machine on all weekend. I think the key is getting them to drink loads. The curly straw is still working it's magic!

We had a breakthrough yesterday when she announced she was going to do a poo and then promptly bolted to the potty. One more wee accident before bed, but things are getting better. That said, no idea how she's getting on at nursery today. Went in armed with 5 pairs of spare trousers, pants, socks and if all else fails 2 lots of training pants. Hoping they haven't had to use them.....

Hi knicky yep, I think just like your DD, mine also doesn't say when she needs to go until it's too late (in fact even then she just sort of looks at me.) I think I will go to the loo a lot today and make her come with me and see if that helps.

How was nursery? Mine with DD1 was brilliant, there was always a little group of them tripping off to the loos and I think mine would go along for fun. it definitely helped her.

It would seem that bribery to sit on the potty is working best. Luckily we have plenty of Easter chocolate round the house.

Hi all... Well done to all those big boys and girls doing wee wees and poo poos on the potty/toilet!! We started Good Friday; house confinement!! Bit stressy at first and put up a bit of a fight but soon calmed down. We've been using pull-ups for a while now so she's used to them but she's had none on during the day since friday apart from at nap time... Popped out in the car to collect a parcel Tues without accidents and went to my sister in laws today where she was playing with her cousins and managed to only have one accident all day!! She's very good at tellin us when she needs to go; her biggest problem seems to be gettin up before she's completely finished so now we've even mastered the "more wee wee please" stage...touch wood... 1st day at nursery tomorrow in knickers so we'll see how that one goes; different environments etc... about 20 pairs of knickers and 8 pairs of pants in her bag but hopefully she won't need them; we even had a dry pull up after nap time today and asked to go wee wee when she woke up and before she went down... all this at just under 21 months old... apologies for goin on guys; am very excited and proud!! They all get there in the end just has to be on their terms not ours really!! hee hee xx

Hi, I am also trying to potty train my twins 2.6 yrs. On day 3 my little girl is now telling me she needs to wee however at lunch time we had an accident in the high chair puddles under both.
My little boy on the first couple of days did loads of small wees but when it came to the ones that really mattered he was running around the house like a up and down around and round like nothing I have seen before, but I soon realised he did need the potty but refused to sit on it . Has any ones experienced this behaviour before?

Just realised my error, the twins are 26 months old not 2.6 yrs as stated above. My little boy has just had a another mad episode of running around the room and yet another puddle on the floor. I hope it gets easier??

Hi Catpus my DD is clearly becoming a bit bored with sitting on the potty. We spent yesterday bribing with chocolate every time she sat on the potty and set a timer for every half hour. It worked well. Today she has still pretty much refused to sit on it but has wee'd every time she's sat on it. She asked to go once, Yay! and wet her trousers twice whilst we were at the park. She has only done six wees all day so she's definitely going longer and gaining bladder control. I think we're going in the right direction. It is day 4 for us and I think I'm getting better at spotting when she's about to go rather than her getting better at telling me when she needs to. I'M KNACKERED!!!!

We started with DS (2.6) on the 31st, and he's dry now! :) Poos are getting there, he gets as far as the potty but gets caught short. He's been ready for a while but was having clothing issues. Aparently he could only be dry if he was naked! Hmm He'd been like that since before christmas.

Now he's waking up at all hours because he's recognising he needs a wee, but 8 times a night? He didn't sleep well before but this is ridiculous!

We've given up Sad DS kept getting hysterical about wees (but is ok with poos, strangely), to the point where he was refusing to drink cos he didn't want to make wee. So he went back to nursery on Tuesday in nappies and seems happier that way. He's told me a few times that he needs the potty but not produced. I'm going to leave it now for a couple of months.
