Leg pain 5 months postnatal

Hello,

I just wondered if anyone has had issues with aching lower leg pain after birth? I had my baby 5 months ago and my lower legs feel crampy but no massage, exercise or stretching helps. Is this normal, does it go away?

Thanks

Is it often that you feel like this? Are you getting enough salt in your diet and some exercise each day, like a walk?

Is there any sweeping presences around the area?

MB58 · 07/03/2021 18:45

Hi, yes I think I am getting enough salt and I am also walking daily. It just seems to be a constant discomfort, some days it isn't as bad as others but it is always there.

Sorry I don't know what you mean by sweeping presences?

I don't know what that means either sorry! Blush

I meant redness or swelling. Goodness knows his that got changed...

gmailconfusion2 · 07/03/2021 19:18

Did you have an epidural /spinal block, I had nerve issues in one leg for six months. Foot drop, pins and needles and aching in my leg

MB58 · 11/03/2021 15:18

Ah ok, no there is no redness or any swelling Smile

I did have an epidural so I wonder if it is due to this but I am getting it in both legs, I also have pins and needles in both feet which gets worse when lying down!

@mb58 I would ring your gp about it and mention you had an epidural. I got called in for a face to face appointment, physio and a nerve test just to check there was nothing sinister going on

MB58 · 11/03/2021 17:33

Ok will do, I hope it's nothing bad and passes soon!

Starrr123 · 02/09/2021 22:45

Mine did ease after a few months. I think the Dr was also worried about ms, permanently damaged nerves, but all is fine now thankfully

Hi, my doctor wouldn't see me face to face so he made a referral to the physio and told me to take paracetamol. Physio also wouldn't see me due to covid so did a telephone assessment. He seemed to think it was due to changing posture being pregnant and nerves being pinched causing the pins and needles. He said if it was nerve damage I would also have stomach pain which I don't Hmm. Exercises did help at the start but now not doing anything. I keep meaning to call my doctor back but it feels like he just thinks I'm crazy when explaining my symptoms and doesn't take it seriously so it puts me off calling Confused. It doesn't help he also won't see me face to face.

@gmailconfusion2 oo im glad everything is fine now!! Pregnancy has really thrown my body! I hope mine solves soon :( they are doing a spinal mri. But im hoping it will just go :( xx

CrasterKipper · 03/09/2021 09:57

After my second C-section I had lower back/hip pain for more than a year. The GP did do a physical exam (those were the days!) and suspected it was nerve pain from the section and should settle within 18 months, which it did. I was worried because it felt like I'd had it a really long time but it did just disappear itself. It could maybe be something similar in which case it will hopefully just sort itself.

MB58 · 03/09/2021 11:11

I'm hoping it calms down soon as I've seen on another site other ladies have experienced the same and it eventually goes away, although waking each day feeling like I've been hit by a bus is never a good feeling! That, along with walking like John Wayne Confused

@MB58 i hope it does gor us too! Its horrible! I just get scared with the pons and needkes etc. Did the gp suggest physio? X

MB58 · 03/09/2021 14:12

I got worried about that too and Dr. Google doesn't help Confused, but the physio told me that if a nerve is pinched or irritated in the back it can cause tingling in the lower leg or feet. I get both.

Yeah my gp referred me for physio but due to covid it's all done over the phone, although this was before restrictions were eased so physios may well be seeing more people now?

@MB58 how long have you had it for?
Mine is the same!
I think tbey just usw covid for wverything dont they!?
I have stopped myself from googling xx

MB58 · 03/09/2021 20:15

I've had this for around 6 months now, some days are better than others but it's always there and at night my legs and feet get so restless/numb/pins & needles and no amount of stretching or massage helps Sad.

How long have you had problems for?

I don't google anymore either as it never comes up with anything that puts your mind at ease and I hate calling the doctor these days as you feel you are wasting their time and rushed off the phone feeling stupid for what you had just told them!

Starrr123 · 03/09/2021 20:37

@MB58 aww bless you :( my legs would ache etc in pregnancy! And my hands would no tingling and numb! But its still happening! The foot numbness and tingly has been 3 months! Ever since i gve birth! I did have an epidural and i was in labour for37 hrs!
Yes i know what you mean! But dont stop keeping pushing!!!!
Because its not nice for you! I felt so annoying too but i thought want to gwt to rhe bottom of it! I had a nervw conduction that came back ok! I had a head mri in December and a cervical spine one in march! And now im having my spine!
Im soo scared to wver get pregnant again! I hated being pregnant and now this :( xx

MB58 · 04/09/2021 09:20

@Starrr123 That's good your nerve test came back OK, I hope all your other tests are clear as well, but it is interesting to know we both have the same issue with the legs/feet after an epidural Hmm

I felt OK when I was pregnant but since giving birth my body has gone to pieces and I feel sore and sluggish most days, I take vitamins daily as I read it could be lack of those causing the pain in the legs but they don't even help!

Starrr123 · 04/09/2021 10:07

@MB58 yes! Ever since having my daughter ive had no energy always so tired achey! Before i was fit now i can hardly walk far!!! Its weird!!!
Its very strange how we do!
I think it must happen to alot of woman due to the epidural! I didnt want it but it was a godsent lol xx

MB58 · 04/09/2021 11:30

@Starrr123 my doctor told me a few months ago the body takes a long time for some women to get back to normal after pregnancy....he clearly wasn't joking as I feel awful most days! A friend also got an epidural a few months ago and has struggled with back issues since, no leg or foot pain though! My husband keeps telling me I stomp around the house, I tell him I can't help it, I simply can't feel my feet properly so god knows what people in public are thinking lol!!

OP posts:
Starrr123 · 04/09/2021 17:07

@MB58 he must be right because my body definitely isnt the same!!!
Hahaha 😂😂😂 i am actually the same i stomp everywhere lol!
Well please let me know if anything helps and how u get on? Xx

MB58 · 05/09/2021 07:05

@Starrr123 I will do, good luck with your other tests, I hope they come back clear and that we are both back to pre pregnancy health soon!! Star

Lots and lots of bananas / potassium supplement help me. My calves were tight as a string and nothing else released them.
