I really would not worry about it rots. Until we hit the reflux problems this week*, Squeaker was mostly sleeping or eating, except for one period each morning, when she would sit awake for about an hour, taking the world in. Most older generation mums who met her said they were surprised at that, and she should generally be sleeping all the time, being so young. As you say, you should count yourself lucky!

*thanks to your tip from FB, she is now sound asleep in her moses basket for the first time in more than 24 hours. I don't know how long she'll be down for, but thank you! It beats holding her all the time or coming up with other, bizarre solutions

rots / curls What was the magic tip?

SkiHorseWonAWean · 17/07/2010 17:48

rots Bear is an awesome sleeper - 5/6 hours through the night. He gets cranky early evening but we suspect trapped gas so are experimenting with new feeding positions and burping. He basically wakes up long enough for eating and then he's off again.

He's just had his second visit to the tattoo parlour but doesn't know he went! Jailbait got a tatt and I relaxed on a big leather couch with a baybee on my chest and my maternity reading at hand. Bliss!

Managed third stage? Dunno mate - had mine yanked out via sunrrof.

CurlyCasperBaggedABairn · 17/07/2010 18:15

to prop the mattress up, FP. I used towels and she managed about an hour and half. unfortunately, I put her down again too soon after her last feed and we have a bit of mess on her and the basket. Nothing projectile though, so that's an improvement. however, it's now evening time, and so begin five-six hours of hell. The crying between comfort is already escalating

care to share re the tattoo ski?

we hae a good six hours a night here too. Try to wake him after about 3.5 but he's not bothered. Get a feed in about half six and then we sleep again for a couple ofhourss. Not expecting this to last...

SkiHorseWonAWean · 17/07/2010 19:23

curly He's just had the boy's name and DOB inked. He said he'd never wanted to do it but I can understand why he has. I'm almost tempted myself...

cunty Like you, we're enjoying it as long as it lasts.

I'm feeling physically stronger by the day and have ceased leaking from the sunroof and front door. Upstairs windows have taken to leaking though.

OkieCokie · 17/07/2010 20:03

Glad to hear the leaky orifices are improving Ski and that you and cunty and getting the kips in. I would never wake baybee in the nights for a feed, just figured he would wake if he was hungry and went for the cluster feeding option in the evenings to tank him up.

FB I have a feeling In the Night Garden may be a bit freaky! The wee man likes it on the telly but seeing Iggle Piggle in full size RL may just tip him over the edge. Oh well! Mr C has is even taking a half day to come along!

CurlyCasperBaggedABairn · 17/07/2010 20:22

I think that's sweet ski. TBH I'm waiting for SFF to return to the new tats conversation we've been having for at least 5 years.

so of six-hour sleepers...

cheggers · 17/07/2010 20:55

casp we were getting about one hours kip a night the first week we were home from hossy.

you have my sympathy.

also. for all you feeders of EBM - read an interesting article about breast milk changing constitution throughout the day. apparently if you give them a bottle of milk expressed in the morning for the evening feed it is like giving them a cup of coffee

may have been the reason that ours were a nightmare to get to bed when we were doing a bottle of EBM.

my big girl still will not go near a bottle without screaming. (5th brand so far on order)

girls night out still on hold ...

OkieCokie · 17/07/2010 21:11

Cheggs did you try the playtex nips?

cheggers · 17/07/2010 21:29

okes they're the ones that are order now. dunno why we've gone all round the houses before we got those as have read in a couple of places they are the best.

to be honest though she screams before the teat even goes in her mouth.

anyway - found article on EBM composition

FannyPriceless · 17/07/2010 21:37

okes I think you might be right about INTG. I was terrified in 1977 when I went to the Wombles stage show and they were like big hairy fat scary men.

curls Thanks, we already do the mattress prop thing. We don't have a huge problem atm but I wanted to know if there was a simple tip I didn't know about!

SkiHorseWonAWean · 17/07/2010 21:45

curly I shall get a photo for you, I really love the font and he got roman numerals done for the date which I think look lovely. I'd never get a man's name tattooed on me, however my boy will always be my boy.

cheggers Blimey, morning milk + mummy's coffee? I've given him EBM this evening to try and ease tummy woes and he's slept through for the last 3 hours - I'd like him to wake in the next hour so I can fill him up and then get my head down. An hour a night? You poor thing! The passport thing should be relatively easy - I'm finding the consulate far easier to deal with than the local authorities although apparently we have to go to a "consulate approved" photographer for the pics. I dare you to accidentally on purpose mix up the photos...

I'm using three different bottles right now, one Philips Avent and two different Tommy Tippee ones. He likes the Tommy ones best.

Btw - nipple pads - KERZERBRILLIANT! I may continue to wear them when I'm back at work and in the airco!

okie you loon, we're all in on a Sat night!

SkiHorseWonAWean · 17/07/2010 21:48

okie When I left the hospital they were quite insistant that I wake him at 3 hourly intervals to feed, so we set the alarm clock like good newbie parents, woke him and he just wasn't interested. Nurses said MAX of 5 hours for the first week and then 6 hours and so forth over a period of time. So we set the alarm for 6.5 but we feel the same, he'll let us know if he's hungry!

iggypiggy · 18/07/2010 09:20

No news yet... Just dropping in...

PollyPoo · 18/07/2010 12:17

Ski I remember the HV being horrified that Boo would go 5-6 hrs through the night without a feed - told me she was way too small to go that long and I should wake her every 3 hrs. We tried it a couple of times. She wouldn't feed properly, got dreadful wind and spent the next few hours crying. After that I tended to ignore most of the advice given by the HV, she was bloody useless! As long as they are putting on weight, weeing and pooing you are doing a grand job I say.

SkiHorseWonAWean · 18/07/2010 12:27

Polly The only time he was woken after 3 hours on the dot and fed successfully was when he was woken after 3 hours and given a heelprick! Seems quite a drastic step to take to wake him up!

CluckyKate · 18/07/2010 13:08

I agree Polly - HV's are a flippin' useless waste of space. I gave up on them when, at 4months, they told me DD was too little (on 9th centile - someone has to be!), I wasn't feeding her enough & should give up BF. I knew I had a healthy, lively, active, happy little baby who certainly wasn't going hungry.

Soon after I did switch to formula, but only cos Boxy and I had a girly ski weekend planned, sans babies. Nearly 2 years on I still have a dinky little girl who eats for England & burns it all off running around & giggling.

organiccarrotcake · 18/07/2010 13:55

cas glad it helped!

Comma is changing sleep habits. Is waking more in the morning, sleeping until the evening and then taking about 2 hours of cuddling and feeding to get to sleep (he doesn't cry really unless put down but he won't sleep). Have tried to wake him in the afternoon - yesterday in desperation I stripped him down to his vest, took him outside in the wind and wiped him down with a wet cloth . STILL refused to wake (but did have some amusing and clearly not chuffed facial expressions).

He has started to wake sometime around 1 or 2 am and takes about 3 feeds and an hour or two to get down again, but then he slept until 8.30 this morning so not too bad.

I used to wake LC for feeding in the night. Mother said I was nuts, so I stopped. 'e's awight, 'arry. Our local BF counsellor said night feeds were uber important (milk creamier then apparently) but he is getting a night feed and I really can't bring myself to wake a sleepy baby to feed and I just agree with everyone that he'd wake if he wanted to.

Thanks for the feedback re day sleeps though. I think he's just getting used to the world.

OK V embarassing, I seem to have head lice! It's been going round school, as it does, and I've been itching like blooming crazy. I can't see anything in my hair (bought a nit comb but still can't see anything) but also bought a BF friendly lice killer so hopefully that will fix it . LC away at ex's this weekend so hopefully he will pass it to him, he can suffer for a few days and then he can treat it before LC goes back in a fortnight (evil emoticon). Obv if I'd realised before he went I'd have checked and treated LC but it was too late when I worked out what may be going on.

The joys of children...

cas how are you getting on with the nappies? Can babycas fit into the ME yet? Comma is still under 8Lbs and is wearing them without the booster, folded at the front, and sometimes if I think he's going to poo soon I just put a booster into the wrap with it folded so the poppers are tucked under (I'd fold it in half for a girl).

SilverSky · 18/07/2010 16:14

iggy will win on Wednesday.

FESHs I need sling info as I reckon what with horses and dog and shiz that a sling may be more conducive to cracking in with stuff rather than always using a pushchair. Thoughts?

organiccarrotcake · 18/07/2010 17:05

Always a vote for Mai Teis from me. Currently though I'm using a Rockin' Baby Sling (pouch sling) which is fantastic.

organiccarrotcake · 18/07/2010 17:14

I'm in love with Lasinoh. Apparently can be obtained on prescription. Still struggling on right side - hope will improve soon - but seem to have cracked it on the left side.

CurlyCasperBaggedABairn · 18/07/2010 18:30

lansinoh stains! great stuff, but i'm still pissed off about a t-shirt i wore in hossie having delightful rings in the nipple region!

i love my Moby wrap sling.
