Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
treedelivery · 22/07/2010 14:23

Oh yak Moose. That all made me feel a bit shuddery. Tendons, snapping, bones..... I could not have been an orthopaedic anything at all.

Poor you, no wonder it's agony. I think H's is very simple, if ouchy. She had no bruising then next day, just over 24 hours. She might have under the cast, I dunno.

Off to get ready for school run, then gym. Have no energy!

tinktellyaddict · 22/07/2010 15:37

oh no tree!!

hi mm - i am going to get dd1s 2 teachers pressies she will be having them in year one they have been so good in reception

rain really heavy here again!!

moosemama · 22/07/2010 17:26

Tree, my bruising came out quite a few days after the injury and some more came out at the beginning of this week, I think its to do with deep tissue damage, so its only just reaching the surface iyswim. I did have lots of swelling though and still have some at the back of my ankle.

Tink, Ds1's teacher definitely won't be getting anything off us. She was off sick today - again. She's been off since Tuesday although I bet she'll be in to collect all her other cards and gifts tomorrow.

In her absence he had a stand in teacher, who wasn't made aware of his ASD. They cancelled his ICT lesson - heinous crime in ds1's world as its all he lives for at school, not to mention kids with ASD just can't handle changes to routine. As it is all the end-of-year disruption, plus the bullying stuff has him teetering on the edge anyway. So when he got upset about not having his computer lesson and sobbed, she shouted at him, he of course got worse, then another teacher, who also knows nothing about him, came along and threatened to make him do worksheets in her classroom while the rest of the class went to do the summer singfest that had replaced ICT. Cue major meltdown - obviously. Not only was he really distraught, but the teacher wrote a very terse note about it in his contact book! Dh and I are furious and I have written a rather long and very angry note back to the school, pointing out exactly how they handled it all badly and how distressed ds1 is as a result. I also reminded them that children with ASD do not cope well with all the end-of-year stuff and this should be taken into account when handling him. I pointed out that if they had given him the opportunity to speak and be heard, then redirected him he would have been fine. So, I have just spent an hour with a sobbing child who has been unnecessarily traumatised by ill-informed teachers who treated him like some sort of naughty trouble maker and allowed his usual tormentors to tell him to 'stop talking crap' and 'shut up you stupid baby'. Thank god its the end of term tomorrow!

I have explained to him that we are working with his teacher/s for next year and as they are unlikely to be off sick all the time, the situation shouldn't happen again. We have also talked about his assessment (which should be around April next year) and how that will also help his school to understand him better. I also told him that they shouldn't have shouted at him and I have written a very cross note to the teachers who were involved today, but that he mustn't ever tell teachers that they aren't allowed to tell him off, if something like this does ever happen again, I will deal with it. Of course I also explained that, while he wasn't wrong to be upset and I understand why he was, he has to try and control himself a bit better at school, they can't change things just to suit him and all the other children wanted to do singing rather than ICT. He is now a lot calmer and happier and is looking forward to a better year next year. Phew!

And all because his flipping teacher is off sick - again! She hasn't managed a full week at all for the whole of the last half term and was off sick from the beginning of October to April in the first place. Apparently they are moving her to the nursery next year, so she will only be doing 2.5 hours a day. They have tried her everywhere else, she was originally upper-juniors but couldn't hack it, ds2 had her in Reception - she went off on long-term sick. Then they tried her teaching year 1 - same thing happened, then this year she did the same thing with year 3. She was off sick last Thursday and one of the mums bumped into her at the make-up counter in Boots fgs!

Roll on 3.15 pm tomorrow afternoon!

Lenni · 22/07/2010 17:28

Poor H, couldn't help smiling about the blue cast having redheads among my own family I know how they always moan about pink. Hope she has managed today okay. DD was much better after the first week and calpol got her through nights.

MissJ I hope your interview has gone well and good luck for scan tomorrow. Will have everything crossed for you.

Shoppers, I've still not found any girly shoes pref in 8.5D or otherwise narrow fit. Tried local startrite and only plain black chunky things that okay for school but don't really want school type shoes when DD not at school. Plenty of time for boring black ones next year! If anyone sees anything please point me in it's direction.

moosemama · 22/07/2010 18:02

Lenni

Startrite online have them a pair in navy, but not sure if that's any better than black really:

Gum Drop in Navy

I keep seeing online that Petasil shoes come in d fittings, but can't find a website that actually lists the width fittings as an option

I have the opposite problem, both my boys have really wide feet and can't wear off the shelf type shoes and trainers as they just stretch/splay out and offer no support.

Where did you get her measured, was it startrite or clarks? I think people have found their dcs come up different widths in each store, so it might be worth checking the other one iyswim.

treedelivery · 22/07/2010 18:26

Cheers for that Lenni - I never thought of the pain being worse at nght tbh. But yes, I bet it is. I think H kept waking herself [and me] up turnng over. It's so heavy she would struggle to roll over.

On shoes, we have found Petasil to be a trim little shoe. I don't think they have widths, not sure. Others we have had are Rondinella - beware the price - and another I can't remember but will look for you

If you are a startrite d you have no hope in clarkes I'm afraid.

Oh Moose. How horrible. I think you must be ready to loose it with this school by now, they have gone for it big style this week!

treedelivery · 22/07/2010 18:37

Oh, they do have widths! We have these. They are lovely actually, and look in pretty good nick. They look really comfortable, and have very soft leather.

WOuld need to really, the price of them. My shoes cost £8 from NewLook

stripeywoollenhat · 22/07/2010 20:24

argh! stupid 18 month sleep regression! can't get small girl to go to sleep! we've had weeks of howling at bedtime now [sulking emoticon] and now i think she might have fallen asleep just to be woken up again immediately by the stupid bloody dishwasher alarm.... argh!

sorry. very frustrating.

tree, poor h. it is a pretty shade of blue, the cast, at least...

missj, good luck with interview, and scan. i had one at seven weeks with c, and it helped a lot knowing there was a little heart beating...

ah, moose, that school. hope you get a more robust teacher for ds1 next year.

can't advise on feet, c has wideish feet and a high instep (very common in ireland, apparently) and she's still in size 18 so no idea about shoes at all, since there are virtually no shoes available here until size 20, so far as i can see

treedelivery · 22/07/2010 20:50

The shade of blue

moosemama · 22/07/2010 21:05

Oh Tree she looks such a cutie. Dd has been pointing at the picture on the screen and saying "baby ahh". Then I said "look, that baby has a poorly foot like Mummy", so she started pointing at my foot, then H's and saying "foot, uh oh". I think H has a fan!

I agree about the shade of blue - very fetching.

Stripey, sorry for sleep problems. I hate it when I just get her to sleep and someone/something wakes her up again.

teaandcakeplease · 22/07/2010 21:11

Miss J - hope today went well and goodluck for scan. Great news on the BF

Tree - poor little H Seen the pics on fb, very cute indeed. Hope she sleeps better tonight and heals quickly. DS is always injuring himself, he fell off a chair today at a friends and hit his cheek on landing It's a miracle he hasn't had a cast yet!

Moose - can't believe the stuff at your DS school Really hope things are better next school year.

Stripey - Hope your DD settles for bed soon and sleep improves

My 2 have H width in clarkes so completely lost on slim shoes.

Had this song in my head all day.

treedelivery · 22/07/2010 21:18

Thanks Moosey. I forget you don't see them as often as me, as you aren't a fb addict

Well Stripey, you know I hear your pain! No sensible suggestions sadly.

Now....shopping. this arrived today, the strawberry one. You can see it by hovering over the spotty one [?]. The thing is, it is very very thin. almost jersey. It's also cream, a yellow-cream. It's only a fiver, and should be lush. But it isn't. I'm quite let down I've oogled it all season and it's not great.

We have to send back a hat as it's tiny, and I might send this too. WIth the stripey pants I got to go with here it all looks like nightware.

Got this in both colourways though, and for both girls and it's really nice. Got leggings to go with for £2.80, and the 4-5 are more like pedal pushers on dd1 as she is soooooo skinny. So they look pretty sweet

Stll though, my lovely strawberry top. Pah.

120 · 22/07/2010 21:19

Very cute pic tree

Stripey, it may be the sleep pattern changing. DD is a sensitive sleeper and if I try and put her to bed too late she seems untired and moans for England (and hte rest of the UK). Half an hour earlier and she is a different child. How long is yours sleeping during hte day? Could be that a slightly shorter day nap and an earlier bed time may sort it?

OP posts:
treedelivery · 22/07/2010 21:58

I have to say, that as hard and painful as it is, snatching dropping H's afternoon sleep has helped.

Sometimes I make her morning sleep much later, if she has it in her. Then the day is much much easier. If she sleeps 9.45ish to noon, she is ready to nap by 1 ish and is a total grump all afternoon. BUT she is easer to get to bed about 7. Then she wakes again later.....but thant's another thread....

Maybe you could try that Stripey? when you are out and dp is incharge--

treedelivery · 22/07/2010 21:59

Hi Tea. Am not clicking on your link. You can't make me Don't want to be hummng all night, whatever it is....

teaandcakeplease · 22/07/2010 22:06

LOL Tree

stripeywoollenhat · 22/07/2010 22:13

i really don't know what's going on with her, and it's a bit whingey to be going on about it, really, since she does sleep through when she gets to sleep... her daytime nap has stretched to an hour and fifteen minutes, but i think it might be because she's going to sleep too late in the evening. i've tried waking her after forty five minutes of napping, this makes no difference, apart from making me feel mean. hopefully it'll settle down again soon, it was nice having child free evenings... we tried earlier bedtime today, but no joy. (it does have to be said, she went to sleep without even complaining when dp was away last week: i am the boring mum, obviously )

(me, me, me....)

120 · 23/07/2010 07:27

lol Stripey.

Tea, meant to say I'm with Tree on the song link. Have enough trouble with the ruddy kids songs like peppa pig as it is. I let DD sleep two hours yesterday against my better judgement and she got up at 5am this morning. grr. Today she will have one hour. Will have to be strict with my mum as I know she won't wake her up.

OP posts:
120 · 23/07/2010 07:29

by the way, meant to say I know we aren't near 1000 yet, but already can't use the blackberry to read it (think that's why we don't see much of Dog either), not sure about tink having hte same issue. Anyhoo, could be a bit profligate and do another? Then I can tune in from the PG and whilst putting the kiddies down.. bad mummy.

miss j -hope all well today

hi mm

tree - dd does look cute bless her

dont have probs on my blackberry luv it

received dd2s happyland pirate ship is for her bday looks great and recieved hr tomy megasketcher is for hols

ordered on amazon for her for now a small wooden car and tomy animuddles

missjackson · 23/07/2010 14:13

Haven't clicked on any links, but am guessing you are talking green baby, tree - I was also disappointed by the thinness of some of the stuff I ordered. Probably their summer weight as the winter stuff is always gorgeous quality.

I did however score 3 gorgeous bf-ing tops and a bf-ing dress from frugi sale - amazing quality - and will be nice for next time round I'm hoping!

Didn't make the scan - the only appt they had was 8.40pm - too late for me as I am just shattered after a busy week, and would have to drive an hour to Cardiff. Truly am knackered and going to sleep now. Will just have to stop worrying and assume all is well - feel crappy enough so that's sort of good . Interview went well enough but London and back in 12 hours was too much.

Think dog has iphone...

Sorry to hear of C's sleep regression, stripey- maybe a growth spurt? N sometimes gets really unsettled for a few days when he is making leaps and bounds with his language. He is jabbering away in whole sentences now... if only we could understand a word of them .

moosemama · 23/07/2010 16:23

Oh Tink, we have the Animuddles, my little sister bought them for dd on her birthday. They drive us crackers. They just go off in the toy basket for no reason and make us jump out of our skin. They aren't supposed to make a noise unless the top and bottom are connected - but they do. Its also a bit disconcerting when the sheep roars like a lion and the cow makes monkey noises.

Hi MissJ, agree feeling crappy is a good sign, . Shame about the scan though. Will you try and book one when you aren't so exhausted?

Glad your interview went well.

If I was having another I would definitely invest in some Isabella Oliver maternity clothes, as they are simple, but so well cut and feel gorgeous to wear. They have some amazing sales online as well, often 70% off. I bought one of their non-maternity dresses a while back and its lovely.

N sounds so cute with his jabbering. Dd has lots of words, but also does the whole jabbering thing, for all the world as if she is saying something really profound, complete with really good tone of voice and facial expressions, but not one recognisable word - I love it!

Having a bit of a mare today myself, have been up since 3.00 am as I couldn't sleep for worrying about ds1. Dh joined me at 5.00 and we sat talking about it all until it was time to get everyone ready for the school run. Been on the SN forum today to get some advice about applying for a statement for him.

Dd isn't well today either, she had a poorly tum last night that seemed to result in instantaneous and nasty nappy rash. She was screaming in pain with it - it was really horrible. She's been so quiet and subdued today and wanted to sit on my lap a lot. I've given her a couple of bicaronate of soda baths, plenty of nappy-free time, been using chammomile tea instead of wipes and have applied and lashings of bepanthen and its much better now. All a bit of a shock to the system as neither of my boys ever got nappy rash.

tinktellyaddict · 23/07/2010 18:40

hi mm

animuddles sound fun dd2 will luv them she has just got into making animal sounds she can make the sound of a sheep, cow, crocodile
and she luvs animals

poor dd2

hi miss j - shame you didnt make scan glad interview well travelling does sound a pain

dreadinhg 6 week hols!!
girls fight alot it is harder going out with both of them find it plenty going out wiht just one have more planned this time

moosemama · 23/07/2010 19:50

Dd loves animals too, she is crazy about Pippin from CBeebies and loves that awful Big Barn Farm (the boys call it Big Freak Farm) as she is particularly fond of Gobo the Goat and now runs around saying "Gogo! Gogo!" whenever she sees a farm animal of any kind.

She also drives me nuts bringing me the colour doodle board and asking me to draw "dog, woof woof" or "cat, eow eow" or "pig grunt grunt" (the noise not the word obviously) or "peep, baa baa) or "duck cak cak". When she's done with asking for every kind of animal she can think of she starts asking for me to draw "teddy" or "toot toot" and so it goes on ... and on .... and on!

To be fair, she has had to be pretty quick off the mark learning to get her point across, as if you draw breath in this house someone will fill the gap with a sentence - or three.

teaandcakeplease · 23/07/2010 20:18

I am lurking and reading, DD shouts "PIPPIN!" a lot, she loves Come Outside.
