Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

The whole tattoo thing has been a really amazing process for me. I poured a lot of feeling into what I wanted done but still can't believe I actually did it Shock I hope dh understands and doesn't hate it. I think there's also a lot of what I went through after ds1 was born that's in there and I believe that you are in a similar place right now, AQ. I wouldn't wish that on anyone and am sending you the best possible energy right now. Just know that there is most definitely a light at the end of the tunnel and imo and ime it takes finding the right drug cocktail to get there. For those of us who just don't have the right mix on our own, better living through pharmaceuticals is a godsend. I have thought from time to time that even had I survived ds1's birth a hundred years ago (not likely) I still would not have made it much longer after. I don't really do hugs but I do offer strong shoulders!

Aw AQ. Good to have sensible GP.

Jabber - the meds are definitely helping DDs wee issues. Not sure I want her on them indefinitely though so need to see what alternatives there may be. Eyes different issue. Have appt mid-June and will ask about exercises when I see them. She's v sad as she wants to wear sunglasses like me (I have prescription ones) but obv not good for her eyes. Would you get presciption shades for a littly? Or am I being indulgent?

jabberwocky · 06/05/2011 15:56

Not indulgent at all. I just wrote an article on the importance of sun protection for everyone. In fact, just ordered 6 pairs for the boys as they lose them so often. Of course since they are not Rx so not that expensive.

EustaciaVye · 06/05/2011 16:29

Thing is if I get them now, she's due a glasses test in August where they are likely to change the prescription so it will be wasted money iyswim.

jabberwocky · 08/05/2011 01:01

True, but then the summer is when she will get lots and lots of use out of them - although, yes you can still get UV on cloudy days. But then, her clear lenses probably have UV coating on them for protection then.

oh and ds1's art show went quite well. he handled it as well or even better than we hope. i'm amazed, roud and relieved all at the same time :)

Thanks Jabber. will take her in and see how much it would cost. I know the NHS wont pay for sunnies!

EustaciaVye · 08/05/2011 08:14

Have you got any pictures from DS?

jabberwocky · 08/05/2011 16:25

Dh scanned in the newspaper article and posted on FB. I'll repost in the group.

And Blush at the 3 posts with the typo! Guess you figured out I am proud and not roud, lol. I think I was doing that on my kindle. The wifi feature is most definitely in the experimental stage but they readily admit that so I suppose one shouldn't expect too much.

accessorizequeen · 08/05/2011 19:35

Ooh, pics are fab jabber as always, showed ds1 and he thought the red-eyed whale was 'cool'. Must add email addy for him to my task list so they can be in contact.
EV, my orthoptist told me ds2 shouldn't have sunglasses until he's older (although didn't say why) which he was most disappointed by. Have bought him several large brimmed hats!
Feeling a bit better this weekend although new meds will take a while to kick in. DP & I had nearly a whole day with no dc thanks to the gps, we bought some stuff for the new house, went to the tip and had lunch together, bliss.

Indith · 08/05/2011 20:22

Sounds like a good weekend AQ :) Fingers crossed that you start feeling a difference with the new meds soon.

Appeal forms for ds finally done, will be handing them into the school tomorrow. I swear I am going to go grey over the next few weeks but I am not letting him go to a school where they will make him sit in his own shit until I can get there to sort him out.

jabberwocky · 08/05/2011 22:51

Indith, I think I missed something somewhere but I hope all goes well. I saw an old friend last weekend when visiting the little town we used to live in. It turns out that she and I had both had the same experience of the school doing that to our ds1's :( I was so livid about it and still feel so sad that happened to him.
Ds1 has sold 4 pieces from his show so far :)

EustaciaVye · 09/05/2011 16:07

Thanks AQ. Talked to the optician who did me a deal - £20 for a pair of sunglasses. I think prescription sunnies are preferable to nothing but a toy pair of sunnies. She keeps taking her glasses off when I wear my shades to copy me. She looks very sweet.I have an orthoptist appt next month though so will talk to them about it.

accessorizequeen · 11/05/2011 23:15

These orthoptic appointments are a bit of a PITA aren't they EV? (lovely tho the staff are) DS2 was going every six weeks at one point. He has got glasses no.3 for this month on now, I've threatened to superglue them to his face. I suspect he may need patching again after so much time without them. Thank god they're free every time. Send us a pic of dd in sunnies when she's got them!
Indith, can only imagine how anxious you feel about it. DS2 has got his place at ds1's school but we are moving out of catchment area and there's a chance that even with 2 siblings the dts might not get in. I prob.shouldn't worry 2 years in advance, but spent all day doing it anyway. Crossed fingers for good result!
New meds are making me feel NOT hungry. I like.
Jabber, how's your DM?

Indith · 12/05/2011 07:57

Hope the drugs are helping with more than just the waistline AQ Grin

School must be such a worry for you, what is the school in your new catchment like?

I am going to bury my head in the sand until we have our hearing date.

jabberwocky · 13/05/2011 01:34

Good luck with the hearing Indith. AQ, I frequently worry about things at least 2 years away...hope the new drugs are good ones!

Lost another friend yesterday. I feel old and very mortal :(

Indith · 13/05/2011 08:59

I'm so sorry Jabber x

jabberwocky · 15/05/2011 00:35

Thanks, Indith. I guess I'm getting to the point where this is going to happen more often but 47 still seems awfully young to die of a heart attack.

Indith · 15/05/2011 16:06

Very young :(

MIL's dh had a minor stroke the other week, it really hits home that it can happen to anyone, he is early 60s but that doesn't feel old either.

EustaciaVye · 15/05/2011 16:12

:( to all those with bad stuff going on.

This thread is taking ages to load for me. Is it just me? Or do we need a new one?

accessorizequeen · 16/05/2011 23:04

oh, jabber, so sorry! You're only a few years older than me, I'd be devastated to lose a friend at this point or any time.
castles (are you there, castles?), have you had the op you were worried about a while back? I'm sorry I haven't asked before now, every time I have a dizzy spell (low bp at present, so lots of them) I think of you but it was another thing wasn't it?

jabberwocky · 17/05/2011 13:11

I know, AQ, it all seems rather surreal...

Dh and ds1 are on their way back from New York. they've been gone since last Tuesday and I have spent an hour every weekday morning cleaning and doing laundry to try to get things in better shape around here. Have managed most of the house except the office so far. I hate to say it but it's been a bit of a relief only having one other person around for a bit. The boys are so completely different when they are together. It's like they have two personalities! I suppose that's normal but they do suck the life out of me with their almost constant bickering. Ds2 can be so incredibly sweet when he is not bent on pestering his brother.

EustaciaVye · 17/05/2011 14:16

Jabber. It is definitely MUCH easier looking after just one child. Being with a sibling does change their little personalities too, I find.
