Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Ethelred, not sure if it helps, or if you've already tried it, but when Imogen had not nice nappies off and on we were told to take her off milk. They got much better within 24 hours and by 48 hours later were back to normal. We did give her one watered down bottle of milk a day (about 1/4 milk) as when she woke up at night nothing else was working and she screamed and screamed! In place we gave dioralyte (blackcurrant) and warmed it slightly which she was quite happy drinking instead. When we reintroduced milk we did it watered down to start then increased it by a little bit each time/day because she was very sick first time we just suddently gave her whole bottle of milk again!!! I would do it straight away next time if she had an exploding bum again for more than a few days... (rather than the nearly 4 weeks off and on she had it this time Blush).

LaDiDaDi · 01/12/2010 12:03

Hi all,

Sick of the snow here, it's been a week now, 6 days too long imo! Dd's school is still open but clearly struggling, all after school stuff is cancelled, the Christmas cake sale is cancelled and the nursery is closed so that they can use nursery staff to fill the gaps in other classes. It is a nightmare trying to actually get to the school as well. Today I had to dig myself back in to get parked when I got home iyswim. Other than the school run I have not been out of the house since Sun night. Was at work at the weekend and on nights tonight and tomorrow. Getting home will be horrendous.

Sorry for the grump! I really need to do some Xmas shopping, have done quite a bit on line but need to actually get to the shops too for lots of little things from a few shops or things where I need to see them before I buy.

Meant to be going here at the weekend but not sure if we will make it because of the snow.

Feeling very Bah Humbug.

Hope that CP is good and you are having fun Blathers.

Blatherskite · 01/12/2010 19:51

Catherine has chosen this week to cut her two top teeth! So while CP is lots of fun we're not getting a lot of sleep Sad

Heating in the pool was bust on Tuesday so we couldn't go in but was back open today - but then Alex got the runs so we've still not been able to go swimming. I think it was something he ate rather than a bug as it was a one off episode but we couldn't risk it this afternoon just in case. I know you're supposed to not swim for 48 hours after a bout of tummy bug runs but is it the same for food related runs does anyone know? Alex was so looking forward to the pool and it'll be really heartbreaking if he can't go in at all.

DH was so desperate to go swimming, he's gone with his parents tonight. I quite fancy a swim in the dark but one of us needs to be here for if Catherine's teeth wake her so I'll have to try to go tomorrow instead. Luckily, I'd brought some Calpol sachets with us whcih are helping! She's getting both the top ones at once poor thing.

There's only about an inch of snow on the ground here and the roads are clear but I'm a little worried about heading home on Friday. We've been watching the news and it sounds awful out there! It'd be a great place to get trapped but it's more likely we'll get halfway home before it gets bad enough to make things diffcult and I don't relish spending hours and hours stuck in a car with a bored toddler and a teething baby!!

Hope everyone is well....

HerculesPoiroastinOnAnOpenFire · 01/12/2010 20:49

Glad you're having a good time Blathers, even with the lack of sleep due to teeth.

My parents got back from NZ today and are here until nearly the end of January so that will be lovely! Imogen has a bit of an eye infection which meant she couldn't go to the childminder today so I got to see them a few hours longer than originally planned which was quite nice - usually nothing like that ever works out nicely for me! Her eyes seem a bit better tonight so hoping that she is on the mend.

Imogen is loving her food, but has gone completely off being feed from a spoon - unless she is holding it herself and even then she prefers her hands! This morning she had fruity berry museli with yoghurt - with her hands!!! I don't really mind and give her the spoon so that she can practise with it and I think I'll just make a lot of food that she can eat with her hands a la all my blw books that I have!!!

HerculesPoiroastinOnAnOpenFire · 01/12/2010 20:50

ps seeing as today is 1st December and first day of advent I've changed to my christmas name!!!

Lee that's brilliant - both the christmas name and the thread title.

Blathers I also meant to say that if it was food related and he's better then definitely take him.

My school has been closed today and is closed again tomorrow. Shame I don't work thursdays or Fridays!!!!

Shimmer · 02/12/2010 22:30

Hello to all. Hope you don't mind me butting in to your thread! I have a DD born 19 Dec. and I am after ideas for Xmas/birthday pressies and was hoping to pick your brains!! I'm really struggling to find stuff I think she'll actually appreciate and feel I don't want to buy things just for the sake of it! (I also have older DS, so LOTS of toys/lego/building blocks etc. already in house). For those more organised than myself... what are you LOs fave toys and what presents are you giving your 1 year olds??

HerculesPoiroastinOnAnOpenFire · 03/12/2010 20:29

Hi Shimmer - of course you are welcome, the more the merrier!

We discussed that very question not all that long ago (page 35 I think if you have the thread in pages) so hopefully you can get lots of our ideas from there. Of course if you have any brilliant ideas/favourite toys to share please do ...!!!

Imogen's eyes weren't at all better - the next morning she couldn't open one of them properly! She now has drops and ointment to put in, but they do seem much better today so hopefully on the mend. They took a swab of all the gunk just to double check what it was too so will ring up on Monday to find out.

It was my dad's birthday today so I tried to make that dotty dragon cake from the book. It looked more like a demented green sheep but nevermind - he appreciated the effort!!!

Blatherskite · 03/12/2010 21:42

We're back :)

We had a lovely time. Just enough snow to make everything white and pretty but not too much so we couldn't do anything. One annoyance was that the heating in the pool broke on the first day so we couldn't go swimming until today but we filled our days with lots of other things so still had fun.

Hoping for some better sleep now we're home. Catherine has cut both top teeth at once while we've been away so combined with sleeping in an unfamiliar place, we've had very little sleep. The right-hand tooth seemed to create a little purple blister at the point where it came through and must have been very uncomfortable - so glad we had some Calpol sachets with us for her. Hoping that now we're home and the blister is gone, we can get back to full nights sleeps again.

Catherine is getting a taggie blanket with her own name on (she loves Alex's but will wonder why it's got his name on it instead of her's one day), a book, some Hide 'n' Squeak Eggs (because I have always wanted some Grin ) and some new fluffy bath towels to replace the hooded baby ones she is currently growing out of. I've probably spent no more than £20 on toys as she's perfectly happy with Alex's hand-me-downs and is being spoilt by relatives anyway. The towels are things she needs and I'm making the most of her not minding what she gets :)

For her birthday - we're getting her a "half Birthday present" We're not going to get her anything now but I'll buy her something in the Summer. She'll be 6 months older by then and we'll be playing outside a lot more so there is bound to be something she'd appreciate - and this way, I can buy her something nice without feeling like I'm spoiling her. No point buying her anything now as it'd just be getting something for the sake of spending money.

Hope that helps Shimmer. Lovely to hear from another December Mum. We're missing quite a few recently Sad

Oooh we've got one of those hide and squeak toys put away somewhere, will definitely get it out for her birthday. We're possibly going to get her one of these that Blathers suggested before, but I think we might just wait and see what everyone else gets her for birthday/christmas and then get something after that (or not bother and just buy her something in July!!!). I need to get her a bag/lunchbox for the childminder rather than the random lot of pots so she might end up with that as a present.

Our snow is all melting down here - it poured with rain last night so now it is just an icey crust on top of some snow.

Blatherskite · 04/12/2010 11:53

Our Puffy has been brought out and washed. Catherine loves him :)

Blatherskite · 04/12/2010 20:38

DH went for his vasectomy today so there will officially be no more mini Blathers now. It's a relief but also a little bit sad.

Got to find a new present for Catherine. The blocks I'd ordered for her aren't going to be back in stock so the company have cancelled my order. Very anoying.

PIL's are driving me crazy again too. It could be because I'm hormonal but I don't think so. A while ago, they asked DH if he and Alex would like to go with them on their annual trip to the Panto with the GC's. Alex went last year for the first time with his cousins and them a day or two after Catherine came home. It was probably the first year he'd been old enough and gave us a few hours to rest while Catherine slept. I was sad it wasn't us taking him for the first time but grateful for the offer. So this year they're all going again and asked if Alex and "one of us" (meaning DH - they wouldn't have wanted me there) would like to go to. DH said 'Yes'.

So, less than 48 hours after they get back from Center Parcs, they're asking for £20-odd to pay for the tickets!!! Usually, I wouldn't mind paying as 7 GC's and their parents would be expensive but less than 2 days after you get back from a FREE holiday seems a little cheeky don't you think?

They paid for 1 meal while we were there (while allowing my Mum and Brother to pay for many more and DH and I pay for the rest). The only activity they did with us was bowling oh, and getting themselves in on the children's photo with Santa Angry - the rest of the time they were off doing their own thing. I know we didn't need to be joined at the hip but the point of inviting them was for Alex and Catherine to spend some time with them and they never got chance.

Seriously, if DH ever suggests taking them again I think I'd rather not go!

Blathers I agree with everything Lee said. Definitely an emotional thing, even if it is what you want and know is the right thing.

Difficult situation with the PiL, but it does sound like not going on holiday with them again for a while might be the way forward. Do you have to see them a lot over Christmas?

We've put up our tree and decorations tonight - can't wait to see Immy's face tomorrow morning when she gets up. She was excited enough to see the tree by itself earlier! I guess we will soon know whether she understands the word 'No' now, and of course actually not touch it!!! If she really can't contain herself, then we'll just bring back out the playpen and put it in that I think, or on a different table with a chair in front of it!!!!

Shimmer · 05/12/2010 20:25

Thanks for all the ideas on presents all! I STILL haven't made a decision... really must get on with it soon and do some shopping!! The hide and squeak eggs are fab aren't they? I got those for DS, although actually could do with getting DD her own as quite a few egg tops have gone missing over the years...

WOW tree up already Hercules! (btw I have to say I do LOVE PoirotBlush) DH says we're not allowed ours for at least another week. I'm holding him to that though, so hopefully tree shopping next weekend.

MUST go and watch X Factor.....

HerculesPoiroastinOnAnOpenFire · 05/12/2010 21:01

Just catching up on X factor now... Glad to find another Poirot fan Shimmer!!!!

We've got family coming over for Imogen's birthday tea on Saturday and then we are out on Sunday so wanted to get it all sorted now. It was quite emotional actually as last year we put the tree up on Saturday and then I went into labour on Monday so it bought back lots of memories!

Blatherskite · 05/12/2010 21:07

Catherine has a temperature! AGAIN!! Beginning to wonder if we'll ever all be well again!! Sad

LaDiDaDi · 05/12/2010 23:18

Hope that Catherine is ok Blathers. I would be feeling Sad too if I knew that there would be no more babies (even if I knew I didn't want any!).

We have got ds a "Sort N Soar" rocket for his birthday and a couple of things for Xmas, mainly dd's old things wrapped up lol!

I keep feeling a bit emotional atm, thinking about ds coming up to one and dd growing up so fast. Sometimes I just want to hold them both next to me and never, ever let them grow away. I try so hard every day to make sure that they know that I love them.

The Winter Wonderland that we were meant to go to today was cancelled due to the weather, a friend of a friend went last weekend and stayed in a log cabin there, they only managed to get out on Thursday Shock! We went into town instead and took dd ice-skating and to see Santa so we still had a nice day.

Did I post that ds is walking now?? He's been going for a couple of weeks at least and has shoes! Feel like such a duff mummy for not telling everyone about it.

Can't bear to put up the Xmas tree yet...

BlueChampagne · 06/12/2010 12:32

Conrad is 1 today! We sang 'happy birthday' to him in the bathroom at 8am!

I think he's going for another tooth, so have been grateful for the Ashes coverage which means DH is quicker to respond to wails in the night.

Had to buy him his first proper pair of outdoor shoes last week.

Too early for Christmas tree in our house too.

Happy Birthday Conrad!

I think we might be getting Imogen some pre walker shoes this week. She wants to be standing and walking if you hold her hands - she isn't really very near walking herself at all yet I don't think!

Blatherskite · 06/12/2010 21:15

Happy Birthday Conrad :)

Everything crossed here that Catherine beats this latest round of temperatures before her party on Sunday. I've been poorly again too! Had a headache and had to go to bed, leaving limping post-vasectomy DH with a sleeping Catherine and Alex. It's been at least 6 weeks since we were last all well now. So hoping this is the last of it
