New thread everyone...!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
EthelredOnAGoodDay · 24/11/2010 14:13

Anna was due 6th and came on 13th... we live on quite a new estate and since we moved in, 3 babies have been born (anna was first) and two more are due (one of which is 5th Dec this year!!) there are only about 20 houses in total; think there must be something in the water!!

Hope you're all ok. Unususal time for me to post, but have been in town for a meeting and am now 'WFH' Grin

HerculesPoirot · 24/11/2010 15:47

Oh yes, I remember reading all about that too blathers and the hassles you had!

Ethelred definitely something in the water - it will be nice though as they all get bigger and can play together. I still remember days and hours spent playing with the children down my road - there was loads of us all within 3/4 years in age and we spent hours and hours and hours over the road in the park playing, or in each others gardens and stuff.

We've passed the 900 posts post! I reckon we should start to think up a new thread title as last time it took us ages to do!!!!

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 24/11/2010 15:55

yes agree on the thread title Hercule, we need to get our thinking caps on.
How about Dec 2009: no longer babes in arms.
I am crap at this!!! ha ha ha! :o

Blatherskite · 24/11/2010 18:01

How about - "Dec 2009 - where the toddling starts and the (relative) peace ends" Grin

LaDiDaDi · 24/11/2010 18:36

Ethelred, yours is sooooo true but also makes me feel Sad. I want a babe in my arms!!!

My suggestion is "Dec 2009 - still hoping for a Silent Night!"

or "Dec 2009 - toddling around the Xmas tree"

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 24/11/2010 20:14

Dec 2009 - still hoping for a Silent Night gets my vote.

HerculesPoirot · 24/11/2010 20:51

I like them all! One about toddling would be good, but then again I am still hoping for a silent night here... and probably will be nice christmas!!!!!

At the rate we fill threads these days, we should probably avoid a Chrostmas theme as we'll be stuck with it till June :)

Swapped Catherine's bedtime routine round tonight. She's been getting less and less interested in her bedtime feed to the point where it's hardly worth it so tonight I tried feeding her before her bath instead. She was still uninterested but I thought I'd try bedtime without the feed anyway and it worked!! She had a bath, then I sat in our normal chair but read her a story instead. The I turned out the light, gave her a short cuddle and laid her in the cot and left. She didn't make a sound, just put herself to sleep Shock

Is she too young to be self weaning do you think? She's still very attached to her morning feed but I seem to be the one pushing the nap time feeds now (although I'm not sure she'd nap wihtout them) and the bedtime feed is basically non existent these days. Going to stop offering I think and see what happens. I'm ready to quit so I can't say I'd be heartbroken if she was but as she's still not keen on cups, I'd worry about her not getting any milk at all.

I changed Alex's swimming instructor today too. She used to be lovely but she seems to get very snappy with the kids recently. He's always had her as his instructor even though he's moved classes. He's only been in his current class for 2 terms and he's moving up again already so he's definitely making progress but she seems so frustrated with him. When she told me she was putting him up a class, she told me that if I wanted to "inflict" him on her again, her class was on a Thursday!! Then he was tood next to her by the pool a few weeks ago and said something she didn't hear. Instead of bending down or asking him to repeat himself louder, she grabbed his forehead and pushed his head back till he was staring at the ceiling and asked him whet he said! He was crying today because the water was cold and she just kept going on about how the other kids weren't making such a song and dance. It's not even just Alex, she scratched another child across the chest - accidentally - while pulling him back into the pool when he was crying Sad I know he's mine and I'm bound to be soft on him but I just don't like it - so I swapped him. Thing is, when I told Alex, he said "but I love K, I don't want another teacher" So now I'm not sure I'm doing the right thing. I think he'll be fine after a couple of lessons with the new instructor but I feel bad that it might upset him at first.

PIL's have stlill yet to make a firm decision on center parcs too. I wanted to order the food to take tonight but can't cause I don't know how many I'm feeding. So annoyed Angry

Sorry for the essay. Hope everyone else is OK

Lee I love it, and it follows on from these last two threads!

I'm going to stop giving Imogen a bottle during the day starting from today, so today she's only been offered milk in her beaker this afternoon. She's had a little bit, but not her usual amount.

My parents get back from NZ next weds for 6 weeks so really looking forward to that and seeing them.

Blathers, I think you've done the right thing with the swimming teacher, your gut instinct I imagine is right and you could always change back again if necesssary.

Got to go, Imogen has stuffed a whole load of toys down her elephant pop trunk and now it won't pop the balls and she's doesn't know why the other things don't come out the top!!!

LaDiDaDi · 25/11/2010 18:19

Hi all,

Blathers, good point about avoiding a Xmas theme in case we still have it come summer! I like yours, Lee so long as it is not too long to fit iyswim.

Blathers, def think you did the right thing about the swimmingteacher, sounds like she might have something stressful going on her life if she's changed recently but the dc she teaches shouldn't have to put up with the sort of thing you describe. A bit Envy of the self-weaning, I'm sure that being back at work is reducing my supply but ds loves bf which means that he is waking more frequently again, feel soooo tired every day Sad. Wish her would give up himself so that I don't feel bad when I make him!

Lots of snow here this morning, about 3-4 inches at my house. It took my mother 3 hours to drive 15 miles this morning Shock, she saw people just abandoning their cars and walking faster than she was driving! Been snowing again here at tea-time so who knows how bad it will be by morning.

Blatherskite · 25/11/2010 22:03

How about "Dec 09 - Somehow, we survived the first year" Grin

The Silent night one is my favourite. Relates to their December birthdays but not so Christmassy that it'll look strange if the thread lasts for ages.

Glad everyone thinks I did the right thing about swimming. I'm sure the new instructor will be lovely once he gets to know her and he'll lover her too in no time. He was upset when his old keyworker at Preschool left a well but he loves the new one now. Going to sign Catherine up for lessons too and I think Alex's old instructor is the only one that does them so we're not cutting her out completely, I just think for some reason she's struggling to cope with it all right now, at least with the children who are in the pool on their own. I will have to go with Catherine so it'll be a different type of lesson.

Hope no-one gets snowed in (unless they want to be) Last year it started snowing on the day Catherine was born so it's bringing back lovely memories but it will be a pain if it goes on for ages. Don't want it to ruin Center Parcs either - PIL have already done their best at that!! Current news is that they now are coming but only from Monday night to Wednesday afternoon so we're still left with an empty room for 2 days but it's not as bad as it could be. I'll be glad to be rid of them I think.

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 26/11/2010 21:19

I like all the names-that's very helpful isn't it!!

Blathers, sounds like the CP outcome is probably the best of both worlds. They are coming for a few days, but you still get some time on your own. Also, sounds like you've done the right thing with the swimming instructor. I think what she was doing sounded a bit much really.

No snow here! Apparently down the road from us, on the way to the coast there is loads, but we've nothing here. Hoping it stays that way as we're off to Sheffield tomorrow for my friend's birthday.

Had anna at the doc's this aft. cough was getting no better and then when i went into her this morning she'd been a bit sick in her cot Shock and the bed was full of half digested raisins!! How we'd not heard her i have no idea but i was pretty upset to know she'd been sick and we didn't even know... Anyway, the doc said that he wasn't sure if it was a virus, with a bacterial infection sort of lurking as well, so has given her some antibiotics and some nurofen and more calpol! So when she went to bed tonight she was dosed up to the max....poor thing Sad.

HerculesPoirot · 27/11/2010 12:50

Hello everyone - will read and catch up properly in a moment, but am very excited as we won our netball match this morning 34 - 7 and usually we lose all the time! Off to watch AFC Wimbledon in th FA Cup now (I know most of you don't like football, but this is a Big Thing for us!!!).

Blatherskite · 27/11/2010 13:07

I went to see AFC Wimbledon play once.

NOT a good place for a resident of Milton Keynes to be!!! Shock

Thanks Lee - I really enjoyed playing this week. We've had to cancel a couple of matches as we didn't have enough players which is a shame, but it is nice to be back playing after a year out.

Blathers - if you were there supporting AFC or even just NOT supporting MK Dons you would have been welcomed with open arms!!!

LaDi - I know it is probably annoying for you, but I am a bit jealous of the snow!

Ethelred - hope Anna is better soon, I think I would have been upset to in that situation, although there is nothing you could have done.

So with the thread names are we thinking one of these two at the moment?

"Dec 09 - We've learnt to crawl, we're learning to walk, next thing you know we'll be able to talk!"

and

"Dec 09 - Still hoping for a silent night!"

Or something about toddling!

Blatherskite · 28/11/2010 13:53

No open arm welcome, just lots of songs about how MK was shit and everyone who lived there was a wanker Sad I was really upset and was not impressed at boyfriend at the time for taking me.

I don't follow football. I grew up in Doncaster and having the Rovers as your home team doesn't encourage a life long love but the AFC supporters were really horrible. IF pushed for an opinion I would say that MK should have had it's own team rather than importing one but I'm afraid I lost all sympathy for the AFC supporters that day.

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 28/11/2010 21:08

Hi all, hope you're all ok.

Well done on the netball Hercules, bet it's good to be out and about doing something. I used to do quite a bit of 'am dram' which i know is a bit cheesy, but since we moved to York, i've not really done anything like that and i miss having some tme to myself, although I have no idea how i'd fit it in now!!

have to say, I am no lover of football. DH does follow it, but is more of a rugby/cricket man, which suits me as I find them slightly more bearable!

Lee, your day yest sounds lovely! I need to get in the christmas spirit. We are going to put our tree up next weekend i think, which i know is early, but think it will be nice for anna. We have bought a new 'pencil style' tree so hopefully if we push it right in the corner, she won't be able to reach it and pull it over. We've not opened the box yet, so hoping that it is 'a contemporary style tree' as billed, and not just a few skinny twigs!!! :o

Our weekend, TBH, was a bit crap. as you know, we were supposed to be going to my friend's party, but i woke up early on sat feeling a bit odd and then spent most of the day on the loo or with my head down it. Plus anna is back having diarrheoa again so had a joyous day all in all. Luckily I am feeling a bit better today, but anna is still having dodgy nappies so she won't be able to go to nursery tomorrow. Will it ever end?!

Blatherskite · 28/11/2010 21:12

We're holding off putting up Christmas decs until after Catherine's birthday on the advice of BIL who's birthday is a couple of days earlier.

Currently packing as we're off to Center Parcs tomorrow. Am at the stage where I'm so fed up of packing and so dismayed at how full the car is that I'd rather stay here!

I'm sure I'll change my mind tomorrow when we're there and setlled in.

HerculesPoirot · 30/11/2010 20:02

Hello everyone! Love the snow, our school was closed after lunchtime to ensure everyone could get home safely - which meant lots of that live relatively near went to the pub for the afternoon which was nice.

Imogen unfortunately has an eye infection - lots of gunk keeps collecting in the inside bit of her eye and then we have to keep trying to clean it away which she hates! I think that means I'll have to stay off work tomorrow with her though, although of course if it keeps snowing there is always the possibility that the school will close again but unlikely I think.

Blathers - hope you are enjoying Center Parcs and got there OK with the snow.

Ethelred - hope you and Anna are both well soon.

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 30/11/2010 22:47

Hi all

Been off work for two days now with Anna and nappies still not great, but can't say i'm that bothered as wouldn't relish a 50 min commute in this weather. Snow is reminding me of this time (almost) last year and being house bound!

I am feeling great now and anna seems lots better in herself, just the piggin exploding bum. It's getting much better, but not good enough that nursery will take her. hmmmph.

Glad you enjoyed your half snow day Hercules! My friend is a NTA at her school, and where she lives, of the 4 primary schools that were open, hers was one of them!! bad luck! ha ha ha!

Quiet on here again.
