Lady Wahh to Yobbin. Reminds me of a nice obscure anecdote about the Tallis Scholars, one of our mates sang with them for years and years and they were touring the US with a concert featuring the crowd-pleaser Spem in Alium. Director comes back into a rehearsal one day saying "You won't believe what they've done on the poster, their spell-checker has stuck an R in Spem". Everyone falls about laughing exept one sop who innocently says "What, Sprem?"

Jj: will fb you but it is next week! Am getting my days all confused.

traceface · 07/06/2010 19:21

hello.
I'm so tired and can't stop on long - got to do the ironing and plan my 'well woman' lesson for a class of 15 year ols for tomorrow [eek]. All a bit pox-focused here. She is sooooooooo covered and it thoroughly miserable. She has eaten nothing today - couldn't even tempt her with a biscuit - which for Phoebe is very unusual! She's drunk about a beaker of water, and has spent the day snuggled up to my MIL, mainly asleep. She's still boiling up at 40 degrees, with paracetomol and brufen . Anyway I took her to the GP this evening and she's not sure if some of the spots are infected but thinks they coud well be so has given us some antibiotics for her. DH has just gone out to pick up the prescrpition. She was awake most of last night but has gone down quite nicely so far tonight. I keep feeling scared that she'll have a febrile convulsion, and worrying that she'll have one in her cot but I won't hear her. Is that a mad thought? My friend is looking afetr her tomorrow, then I've got her Wednesday and Thursday too if I can wangle it off work, then MIL again on Friday. Lucy remains spot free thus far...
sorry to ramble on about me me me. Seems all there is to my life is spots at present!
Hope babyJam is feeling brighter.

loving the misunderstandings "Sprem" and "caesar"!

Veggiemummy · 07/06/2010 19:42

Evening ladies. We have had no Internet most of the day so have only just caught up.

Kiwi sorry about the early mornings. DS2 is slowly inching his way towards a pre 6 am wake up which we are very worried about. He actually didn't wake for his 10.30pm feed last night, which I thought would happen soon as he was hardly having any mill when he woke anyway. However, he woke feeling very sprightly just after 6am. I have actually taken to having my itouch by the bed for such occasions and I reach down start up one of the movies that DH put on it (ice age 3 or up) and hand it to DS2 who then leans back on me and watches the movie for a bit. I used to do something similar with DS1 but it was a portable DVD player loaded ready with 'Thomas'. I know the screen is a bit small but he can hold it and he's only got little eyes.

I love Julius, and wish I'd thought of it for DS2 now. I
thought about Julian, because I liked the idea of Jules as a nickname, as a nod to a very dear friend of mine who is a Julie. However, I wasn't that keen on Julian, but Julius would have been perfect. Oh well I do like his name now, he suits it. Also I love the Dutch pronounce it with a 'y' instead of a 'j'.

We had a funny day today. First DS1 went to school as normal then just as I was getting DS2 down for his nap the school rang because he had 2 nose bleeds and they felt he should come home. He was fine, just a bit worried that he had ruined his fav shirt. Then I woke DS2 at 12 because he had a developmental check up at 1pm but he was really grizzly and refused his lunch. We rode over to the appointment, but he grizzled the whole way through and refused to do any of the developmental activities. The HV just asked me stuff and took my word for it. His height & weight were all fine, and she was quite impressed that he could ride a scooter. She asked if i told him to go get a towel would he do it. I said we hasn't ever asked him that but he followed commands like take this to mummy/daddy, go get the ball, & where's your head. Which she seemed satisfied with. She then told me at his 2yr check he would be expected to point to body parts on a doll, like the hands and elbows. I'm not sure if that means I should start coaching him now . She asked what words he knew so I reeled off a few, she stopped me quickly and said 'as long as it's more than three'. I felt a bit bad as I said he can say dog, then I realised afterwards that he only says oof oof when he sees a dog.

Anyhoo we came home and DH & DS1 were out (getting a new wifi router thing for the Internet) and DS2 was still grizzly but I managed to get him to have a lot of mango (ie i cut myself some mango and he helped himself to most of it). Then we sat down to chill watching Magnum P.I. & he promptly fell asleep on my lap for an hour. When he woke he was fine. So maybe he is just a bit tired? I wish that would translate to a lie in though.

JJ I hate to tell you this but DS1 stopped having naps around this time.

Avo sorry work is no fun, will you look into the career break then? I'm so glad I'm not working in the NHS now, we were on a permanent vacancy freeze before goodness knows what it will be like now. I would hope he might help some of the bills on children with disabilities and funding go through though. When i worked with my community team there was no pot of money for kids with disabilities, if one needed a wheelchair we used to try to use the money from the vacant posts we had. Nightmare!

Not much chop for you DH JJ, I do think the waiting to see what policies this govt has is a bit of a cop out though.

Right better go DH has just been for a ride and is about to cook dinner but I think he wants to talk to me.

Veggiemummy · 07/06/2010 19:49

Oh Trace cross posted, poor little P, well
hopefully the ABs will make her feel better poor little love. With the febrile convulsion just think about that theory they have that the convulsion is not actually caused by the high temp but by certain viruses. In this case the temp if probably caused by a bacterial infection so, she wont have one. See easy . Sorry probably not much help.

Lady I meant to say, I can't help thinking your MIL was purposfully messing up DDs routine to annoy you. Stupid women. Shall I head butt her for you?

Daisy how is the diet. I did a little yoga sesh tonight but think I might go for a run on the beach tomorrow, if DS2 has a decent sleep. Was a little naught and had a little bit of cake and some of the boys impossible pie which I put quite a bit of butter and FCM in. Will def have to run tomorrow.

sybilfaulty · 07/06/2010 20:26

Hello girls

First of all, sorry for all the poxers. We had it this time last year and poor DD2 was very bad. The Dr prescribed Phernigan as she was so ill she could not sleep or eat, so at least she was knocked out for a bit and got to rest. The good news is tho that she has hardly any scars (about 3 on her whole body) and given that I gave up counting spots when I got to 200 on her face, that's a good result. It's very miserable for them though. Could you try something like some ice cream if her mouth is very sore as she might feel better if she had a wee something in her tum, esp if you are giving Nurofen? I think Veg is right on the old febrile convulsion thing, but if you are worried, could you have her in with you so she is close? Am thinking of you darling.

Loving all the names chat. I wanted M to be Edward but DH vetoed it and if he;d have been a girl he'd have been Elizabeth. Can we have the shortlists out please?

I had a text from young Beans today who has successfully moved but will be without internet for a few days. ALl good her end and she sounds in fine form. Can't believe there'll be ano baby on this thread in a few weeks! So very exciting.

Had a disaster this am. Snuck off early "to work" via the swimming pool, and felt really pleased as I motored along the S Circular to teh pool. I had left the clothes for the kids out for DH so all he had to do was administer breakfast, dress, teeth and out (with advanced hair dressing for DD1's ponytail) but I, er, omitted to tell him that I wasn't going straight to work as otherwise I'd have ended up on child watch if I didn't have to be in for 9.30. Anyhoo, got to the pool and realised I'd forgotten my swimmers! Couldn't exactly go back and couldn't find a shop open to buy another one. Can't believe either that I am having an affair with a swimming pool! Don't tell anyone .

Veg, I am impressed by J's physucal skills and his language. I think they count anything that a child says as a word even if it's not the right one if you see what I mean. I think the main thing is babbling and making sound, to prove that they can hear and someone is talking to them. Certainly my DD2 was quite slow off the blocks with her language and now is a very chatty girl. Still awake at nearly 8.30 though and chatting away about Peppa blooming Pig. Grrr!

Daisy am with you on the diet. Dress looked very foxy. Am trying to de lard for the summer. We went to a BBQ yest and I took a huge Pavlova which I made, so not a good start to proceedings. Am now craving a g and t too. Oh dear.

SOrry for not more personals. Think M finally asleep so just one more to go and I'll be able to clock off childcare for the night. Back later

Love to you all.

Rubena · 07/06/2010 21:41

Hello,
Sybs at your swimming disaster! Glad Beans has moved ok. will send her a text soon. Yum re pavlova. You are quite handy in the kitchen. You work, make cupcakes, have 3 kids, make pavlova's [mum of the year] Hope you are having that G&T!

I got refused Medised today at the Tesco Pharmacy Like I was some kind of 16 year old mother with too many children and I was planning on knocking them out for the evening Was a little peed off tbh as the guy refusing me looked all of 15 himself!

Lady I'm with Vaggie on the mil thing - I can't help thinking the same? But perhaps we are just both evil

Re the 'no' thing. ds is a bit the same in that he will continue to do whatever he's doing just for the reaction of the 'no' getting louder. If I really change my tone he usually stops but gets upset then. For eg the other day he sort of slapped me and I said 'ouch' so off he went in a slapping frenzy
I'm assuming it's the age, but still trying to nip it in the bud [how I don't know]

Our electricity is apparently being turned off for 'works' and could be up to 8 hours must get out...

Rubena · 07/06/2010 21:42

oh that is tomorrow for the power cut - not now

Veggiemummy · 07/06/2010 22:07

I am a little bit evil Rubs mwahahahaaaaa. That's quite crap about the lekky tomorrow Rubs hope it doesn't last that long. God I hope you can get a coffee sorted before it goes off.

Sybs he is a bit more into making vaguely recognisable noises at this age than DS1. However, like your DD2 DS1 definitely knows how to use his mouth now, a little too much sometimes. It's funny he's been the same with his Dutch. He has hardly tried using any Dutch words now all of a sudden he is using loads. I think he is kind of learning this language in the same way as his English. Also DS2 tends to try out more Chinese than DS1. I find it all very interesting. I wish I'd studied linguistics. Which is funny because I've never successfully learnt another language but I do fond childrens language development really amazing.

Sybs I'm craving eton mess because you mentioned pavlova. Imagine what that would do to my hopes of wearing that dress! You really made me giggle with your 'affair'. But would your DH really not be happy if you went to work via the pool? With all you do for him, 3 kids and yummy food!

Rubena · 07/06/2010 22:20

I've had heartburn all afternoon and all night. It's right through stabbing pain to my back. Not fun... Won't be sleeping like this.

Veggiemummy · 07/06/2010 22:30

Oh Rubs I remember that heartburn way too vividly. I actually got more sleep after DS2 was born because of it.

I can't believe they wouldn't sell you the medised, for all they know you have a 7 year old at home who you are giving it to! I once went a bit scary mental at a waitrose check out chick because she wouldnt let me buy a packet of paracetamol & a childrens paracetamol and neurofen! I started yabbering on about derivatives & the difference between paracetamol & neurofen. The girl looked at me a little bit scared & I then realised there was a boots next door so just got the kids stuff and bought the adult stuff next door. But while she put the rest of my shopping through I mumbled on about not even knowing the contents of the meds they sell blah blah rant rant!

zoejeanne · 07/06/2010 22:32

Poor poor P and L with their spots - and Trace and Jam having the sleepless nights. Sounds exhausting. I really feel for you

Unlike me, but I am too tired to do a proper catch up, my fingers aren't in a typing mood (thank god for a rare ZJ short post). Just wondered if Mom is lurking, and if you are, I hope you're doing ok?

x to everyone

sybilfaulty · 07/06/2010 22:53

Hi Zoe, good to see you. Sorry you are so tired. I had forgotten that MOM had her scan on Friday to see how things were. So sorry. MOM, hope you are OK sweetheart. You sounded very chipper in the circs in your last few posts so I hope you are still OK and that things have sorted themselves out without the need for intervention. Am thinking of you. You are very near me in leafy SE22 so do shout if you are up to meeting. I can come with assorted members of the brood or indeed alone if you'd prefer. Take care my lovely XXX

sybilfaulty · 07/06/2010 22:57

Veg, I'm such a tightwad that I get my GP to prescribe all my drugs so that they are free. I have about 7 scripts for Calpol and nurofen as I ask for some every time I take one of the kids, even if we have lots. I thought I needed chloramphenicol the other day and asked the pharmacist how old the child needed to be, so when he said 2 I could compose my face into an "oh, my lovely 3 year old.... etc" but it didnt quite work out so I was planning on visiting ano shop but then time ran out. Happily the lovely 12 y old Dr the next day said we didn't need, but gave a script for when we did and more Calpol. Hooray for Drs who prescribe freely.

Rubena · 07/06/2010 23:12

Yeah vaggie, I think I got more sleep after ds was born too. This 3rd trimester heartburn is awful. Same as last time for me and ds had hardly any hair, so that theory is bollocks!

It's still painful... dh gave me a glass of milk earlier and then just a moment ago before he went to bed he asked me if he could get me anything and I said a glass of milk maybe, and he poured me a wine as that's what he thought he heard!!! I didn't want to make the heartburn worse so put it back, but for a moment I was thinking wine must be some kind of hearburn fixer

Yes MoM if you are about hope you are ok.

Veggiemummy · 08/06/2010 08:27

Oh I'd forgotten about Mom and last Friday (to be fair I'm just coming to terms with it being next Tuesday already). I hope she comes back soon though it was nice having her around a little more.

I hope we haven't lost Dorasbackpac.

Sybs I had to get piriton for DS1 when he had a terrible rash at 8 months (mummy prescription). The pharmacist asked how old he was I said 'oh it's not for him it's for my 4 year old'. That's a good idea on getting the docs to prescribe. However, it is quite difficult to get kids neurofen over here I have to get it when I'm back in London or when friends come over.

Rubs I would consider getting something for it if I was you, depending on your GP. I asked (begged) my GP for some Ranitidine and his response was 'you've only got a couple a weeks left it'll be over soon', clearly he has forgotten his night shifts on the wards. I was waking every hour! When DS2 came along he kindly let me go 3-4 hours so it was definite relief.

Veggiemummy · 08/06/2010 08:29

Oh and Rubs I also used to find rice milk settled it a little no idea why.

Veggiemummy · 08/06/2010 08:36

Oh and horrendous sleep here last night. DS2 up wailing like a banshee every hour (I swear). I think big teeth are coming.

Hello,
No hardly any sleep - my heartburn went away but then I couldn't sleep just being so darn uncomfortable.
ds has our fan so I need to get another as I can't sleep in the heat, plus the bump just never seemed to be in a comfortable position.
I must have eventually got to sleep as I woke up at 0730 then suddenly remembered the power could go off from 8 so raced to make a coffee. I've had about 17 now it seems, in anticipation of not being able to boil water at any moment
I am seriously going to go mad today. If the heartburn kicks in, then ds will be frustrated as I won't be playing, if there's no power soon that means no computer, no coffee, no TV and it's raining outside and dh needed to take the car today

Rubena · 08/06/2010 09:05

Daisy I know what you mean. Sometimes I do go so mad at home all day (then again hating pregnancy doesn't help) but when I make an effort to get out and do things I much prefer to be not working and with ds full time.

Rubena · 08/06/2010 09:12

Vaggie does ds2 wake up ds1? Oh I was meaning to ask to those with older dc's. I remember whenever my nieces and nephews would fall asleep (at around ages 3+) they could be moved so easily and carried around, heads flopped around everywhere but they wouldn't wake. If I try to transfer ds anywhere ie from carseat to bed etc, he always wakes up? Is this just something that changes as they get older? I mean do they sleep deeper or something when they are a little older? Is it just runing around more and therefore more tired?
