Everyone has just left. The Christening was wonderful. altho have realised no one took any pics in the church which is a shame but have some of her in her pretty dress and the cake so its not too bad. Most of the food is gone and was brilliant. Mil got a bit tearful but everyone got on really well which I was glad about. Dh is asleep on the armchair and ds and dd are watching Dr Who now. Leaving me to clean up!! ah well. lol.

ursigurke · 01/08/2010 18:46

juicy, glad to hear you had such a lovely day and at least some pictures of it.
helips, I'm sure you will quickly have made lots of friends in all those groups.

Right, I'm just packing for tomorrow. Paula and I will fly to my parents, DH follows in about 10 days. I've just checked in online at Ryanair. As far as I remember with other airlines, they treat the infant as proper person who is even allowed to baggage but here I'm the only passenger and Paula is in my "fee-list" somewhere between the fees for online check in and 1 checked bag. I think she costs about the same as the bag
All flights so far have been really easy with her as she was mainly sleeping anyway but I guess this time it will be a bit different as she won't be too happy about being in the sling all the time and not being allowed to crawl around for 7 hours or so.
I'm also wondering how she will sleep in the different cot with all that recent separation anxiety. (not that it could get any worse). I guess she will be more aware of everything.

I'll try to keep updated but have a lovely two weeks everyone

Fruitpastels · 01/08/2010 19:11

Juicy Glad you had a lovely day.

Ursi Have a wonderful holiday.

We got C checked out at the out of hours clinic. He has a viral rash. It's got loads better from this morning. No staying home for us now!

SirBoobAlot · 01/08/2010 21:28

Juicy glad it went well

Ursi hope you have a lovely holiday and that Paula doesn't mind the journey too much!

Fruit oh no - hope he is better soon! At least its not the Pox though

MissI what a shame I hope you feel better soon.

Is anyone else who is BF feeling slightly trapped? Maybe its because Bryn won't take a bottle, but as much as I intended to feed for as long as he wanted, knowing I can't arrange to go out is dragging me down a bit. And whilst I can invite friends over, there's no where to go, as Bryn is in my room and my brother has his XBox in the conservatory.

MissInterpret · 01/08/2010 21:28

Fruit, glad to hear C's rash is nothing too serious. But what does 'viral rash' mean? Rosa has had a rash since this afternoon too. Started abdomen and spread to legs/arms too. Not itchy. Thought it could perhaps be virus caught from me but no other symptoms like mine. Not too worried though she has been v grumpy as well, not at all herself. She was even sad in the bath . Unheard of! Looks like it could be an allergy rash but nothing I can think of to have caused it. Will wait and see how she is tomorrow and maybe go to doc's then. How long did C's last in the end fruit?

Luckily I am feeling better, thanks for your thoughts . A work-widow again this week as DH off to London but at least this time we have lots planned. Although it does seem that whenever I plan something...it doesn't work out!

helips glad to hear you're making those first steps to new friendships. Good luck!

Have a great holiday ursi! Hope the flight with Paula goes ok.

Glad the christening went well juicy

Fruitpastels · 01/08/2010 22:11

MissI There must be something in the air. C's rash is on day 3. He started out unwell and the pimply, red spots broke out on his chest, tummy and a few on his back. Today, the spots are settling down and look much better. The GP knew is was a viral rash straight away. He explained, it was very common in babies and harmless, it helps build their immune system. Rashes are funny things as they can be caused by anything. Hope R's rash calms down soon. Just to mention (don't want to alarm you), always best to do the glass test on any rash to check for meningitis.

SB I need to try giving C a bottle. We tried the other night and DH had no joy. Could you try a cup for B to take his milk? I was thinking that this might be the only way for us.

SirBoobAlot · 01/08/2010 22:21

Fruit he won't take a cup at all because of his teeth at the moment. Poor guy...

Fruitpastels · 01/08/2010 22:43

It's a difficult one SB. I'm starting to fear leaving C when I go away for 1 night on a hen do. I have to tackle the problem over the next few weeks. DH is going to try and feed him without C catching sight of me. This is was happended the other night and the plan fell apart. Has your mum tried B with the bottle? It won't hurt them to go without milk for a few hours, especially now they're on solids. Does B last long between bf's? I'm sorry you're feeling a bit trapped. I feel like this at times. You're not alone

I have an issues when C wants a feed whilst we're in public, he can't concentrate on feeding. He demands the feed and slaps me on the chest and pulls my top down, but it's useless trying to feed him with any kind of noise in the background. I'm forever being exposed and milk flying all over the place!

MissInterpret · 01/08/2010 22:44

Thanks Fruit, I did the glass test for the meningitis rash. Always on red alert for that as my mum had it when I was very small.

R's rash sounds a lot like C's. Will see how it's looking tomorrow.

My friend's little one (same age as R) point blank refused bottles but will now take milk from a cup. Has been a life saver for her. Good luck!

Fruitpastels · 01/08/2010 22:50

MissI My Mum had it as a child and nearly died, She was ill for a long time afterwards. Like you, I'm hot on the case! Forgot to mention, I hope you're feeling much better now

Tamlin · 02/08/2010 03:00

Helips, where are you now..? I'm sorry, I don't remember where you were moving to! It is so great unpacking all the kids' old toys, they're just in heaven.

Laugs, sounds like a blocked duct - have had a few. Shower advice is good, also vigorous massage. I used to fill up a disposable nappy with hot water to create a hot compress, put that over the affected side, and then massage afterwards.

Fruit and SB, mine won't nurse nicely in public either. It's really irritating. The only time he'll settle and nurse is when we're at the HOA pool and I've got a big towel draped over both of us.

My big plan is to get him weaned off the dreamfeed and the first-thing-in-the-morning feed by his first birthday - my sister's coming over from Oxford to stay, and has promised she'll babysit so we can go away for the night. (It's occurred to me recently that we've only had two nights away from the children in nearly three years, and one of those nights was for a work do...) I plan to SLEEP IN past eight in the morning, as I haven't been able to do that since DS1 was born.

PavlovtheCat · 02/08/2010 09:31

DS has a rash! across his torso, and it is, I am pretty sure a viral rash, lots of them, fine and pinpricky, slightly raised and red. He has had it once before when he was poorly around christmas time, and DD has had them a few times, each time the doc has said viral rash. It is the body's way of fighting a virus. DS has been a bit poorly this week, nothing bad at all, just a green nose and hoarse very cute voice and a cough/slight wheeze, fine in himself, so just put it down to it being a virus. I guess its the same as a cold just not bacterial. But, like others, I keep an eye on it to make sure its nothing else like meningitis or something more serious. DD also had quite a few whiteheads on her face once when poorly, in a little clump apparantly that was a viral rash too.

A half decent night last night, in prep for the hard work we shall be in for camping tomorrow .

He is definitely saying 'mumm a mummmmmm a mummmummmumm' at me, he says it when he wants me, has his arms up in the air at me and bounces on his bottom saying it! I sometimes feel quite tearful, he is such a little boy now, really coming into his own, his personality is really coming out now, such a sweet natured little boy and really responsive to his family. He also really likes 'trashing' me

PavlovtheCat · 02/08/2010 09:33

oh i lent on that before finishing!!

I was going to say he liked trashing me with DD, they basically both jump on me, laughing and giggling, and when DD is jumping over me, DS crawls over, and starts bouncing and bashing me while attempting to squeal in his current non-voice, he also likes me bouncing him on DD, that is his favourite thing. And surprisingly, he likes DD being quite rough with him, i tell her to stop, but he is wooping when she bops his bottom and makes his legs wobble or pulls him across the floor by his legs

MissInterpret · 02/08/2010 11:09

Aww, lovely to hear your family larks pav. Sounds like a lot of fun.

Thanks for the support re rashes. R has a bit of a snotty nose too and rubbing her face a lot. Phoned NHS direct to check it out and they basically said what you lot have (MN direct ) and to go to pharmacist if rash changes so they can have a look. Said best not doc's as if she is really ill can spread to others/catch something while immune system down.

She swings between being fine(ish) and really, really cross, v unusual. No manic grins, giggles or chattiness either, v unusual . Sorry if going on and on but it's the first time she's really been ill - which I am grateful for. Also grateful for you bunch of experienced and sensible mummies support. Thank you!

helips · 02/08/2010 14:39

Tamlin we have moved to Singapore for 2 years, the toys arrived today and ds has been so happy! I haven't seen him play so nicely in ages, he must have really missed them!

scarlotti · 02/08/2010 14:44

I have a little poorly man here too, although I suspect this is down to teething as he's off his food, chewing his finger and only settles with calpol. Poor chap is sleeping more today so am hoping his body gets busy with those teeth then gives him a break.

With the bf, I can only feed now in my room. Luckily he only feeds morning and night, rest of the time he's solids and water, otherwise I'd never leave the house! He was/is far too distracted in the rest of the world.
He did take some formula in a bottle today as he refused his lunch, but only 0.5 oz! He gets most of his milk though at breakfast, two bf's and formula dream feed so it's no biggie.

SirB B would be fine you know if you went for a night out and he didn't feed from 6pm until the following morning - it's highly likely that if you weren't there, he wouldn't wake and ask for it. But if he did, and refused the bottle, he would be absolutley fine. Would do you some good to get time away.

Tamlin sleep past 8am - what's that?! good luck with your weaning.

Laugs · 02/08/2010 16:31

Aw all these poor babies with rashes, teething etc. I hope they get well soon.

Tamlin at two nights out and no lie ins in 3 years! Can't you and DH take it in turns at the weekend? Some weeks I live for my Saturday morning lie in. Well, you will deserve the time off when your sister comes, that's for sure.

My blocked duct has gone, thank you all for your advice. I did as you suggested - fed, fed, massaged, fed... Bizarrely, I now have an actual bruise about 3"x2" on my other boob. It looks AWFUL. I think James must have tried to latch on in the wrong place in the night.

Ninjacat · 03/08/2010 18:00

Have returned from Boden-on-Sea Camp Bestival. Very tired.
DP off to Big Chill tomorrow so will be festy widow again for a week. Might mean I get a chance to catch up here.

Sorry to hear of rashes and bugs and teeth. Hope they all pick up soon.

longwayaway · 03/08/2010 22:58

Thanks for the tip on the dribble rash - M doesn't drool much but I've been helping her drink (water) from cups lately after she's eaten some solids, and it gets all over of course. I'll be more vigilant about keeping that area dry.

Speaking of solids - M loooooves rice cakes with almond butter! So thanks for the tip on rice cakes, whoever mentioned it! It's pretty much all she'll eat besides bread. I keep thinking I've found a food that she'll eat pureed, but about five mouthfuls in, I realize she's just been tolerating the food to get at the spoon. She grabs it, wipes the food off the business end with her other hand, and joyfully chomps on the handle!

Sleep is scarce these days. I'm this close to letting her cry at night. I know she can get through the night without eating, but if I go to soothe her she just gets more upset when I don't feed her. One feed a night was OK but two + various wake-ups in between is not sustainable.

Sorry, this is all about me!

Laugs glad you cleared up the blocked duct, but strange about the bruise Hope that heals soon too.

and there's M waking from her nap. Argh.

Fruitpastels · 04/08/2010 19:29

Ninja Remind me, sorry.. Do you work at the festivals?

Longway Where did you buy almond butter from? Sorry you're having some tough nights. I'm sure once M eats a bit more in the day then your nights will improve.

Laugs Glad you're better now. Painful business.

JuicyLips · 04/08/2010 20:28

longway hope M's rash is improving. I'd guess is the water as Annabelle occasionally gets this.

Annabelle definitely isn't settling as well as she used to, now when I put her down for bed she'll let out a little whimper but not even a minute later she is completely fine.
She still doesn't have a single tooth. does anyone else have no teeth yet?

Annabelle is nearly too long for her car seat. (probably no way near heavy enough to change yet) Am considering a rear-facing car seat for her as they're apparently safer. Dont think my bank account is going to like it though as they seem very expensive.

Fruitpastels · 04/08/2010 20:44

Juicy No teeth here either. Lot's of teething going on and nothing to show for it yet.

SirBoobAlot · 04/08/2010 21:04

Juicy Asda have got a reward to forward facing one for £25 at the moment: Here

Longway I know what you mean. Bryn is still feeding twice a night, and he won't settle - he genuinely is hungry, they're 15 minute feeds. The one time I tried to get him to miss a feed was a nightmare.

Laugs glad you are on the up now

Hope all the poorly babies are better

No teeth, but both of us seem to be in a lot of pain Bryn's wind seems to be back with a vengeance, and my M.E. has flared up to levels it hasn't for a long time Off to the doctors for me soon, I think... But don't want to get some good meds that work, only to have to come off them in November when my maternity certificate runs out.

Fruitpastels · 04/08/2010 21:15

SB That's terrible that you have to pay for your medication . How long has the illness been with you? Sorry B has tummy probs. I hope he gets up later for you tomorrow morning.

SirBoobAlot · 04/08/2010 21:17

Has been just over two and a half years now... Two years since diagnosis. Same reason I'm off my ADs, tbh. Recently have been feeling I should go back on them, but I know they take a while to settle in, and I don't want to them have to come back off them just after they start to help.

Rant over
