Welcome to our new cliquey thread !

eddie I have a very similar name thing. My favourite boys name in the whole world is Thomas, and even as a child I knew that I would call any son of mine that.

Then I married a man with probably the only surname in the world that you can't really have Thomas with. Especially if you wanted Andrew as a middle name... Good job I love him.

DewinDoeth · 08/06/2010 11:14

OK, will draw up a list.

pleasechange · 08/06/2010 11:43

thanks dewin - and it will keep you away from that nasty thread

EddieIzzardismyhero · 08/06/2010 12:54

Lol sybil! Maybe we should swap surnames !

MN is a v weird place - esp with the regulars. It never fails to amaze me how someone can post in AIBU about seeing someone shout/swear at their child and how angry it made them, and get jumped on from a great height for being 'judgy' and you know nothing about ther circumstances blah blah blah. Yes admit to some heinous crime like formula feeding or controlled crying and they'll be calling in social services before you've hit the 'post message' button .

There are some seriously sanctimonious judgy tossers on MN - and they seem to post everywhere!

On the language thing, I think, as someone said on your thread it would be a much bigger issue if you lived in a country like France where your DS would get v little exposure to English and no one spoke it to him and therefore his GPs couldn't communicate with him either. That would be very . But honestly, how much 'communication' does anyone have a 2 year old?!

My MIL is definitely one of the, "turn up and pose but don't get your hands dirty" type so totally get where you're coming from on that.

EddieIzzardismyhero · 08/06/2010 12:57

Your thread has kicked off again DD and now you're a control freak!

Oh, and I get sick to the back teeth of this "they raised your dh so they must be ok" crap! That was 30 odd years ago (nearly 40 in my dh's case!), times change and you may not have agreed with how they raised him anyway!

eddie I think your MIL and mine were separated at birth. MIL had one hour with DS on her own on Sat and she was clearly upset that he had dribbled on her (he'd also pinned her down on the floor and tried to bite her, hehe).

DebInAustria · 08/06/2010 13:50

just checking in for news from Amber, let's hope no news is good news.

DewinDoeth · 08/06/2010 14:00

They're being really, really mean about me - it's down to name calling now.

pleasechange · 08/06/2010 14:26

dewin for some reason, when anyone even mentions MIL on a thread, they all storm in, lashing the poster for daring to say anything negative about the woman who brought up her DH. Eddie is right - there are some very sanctimoneous and smug people on mn. I'm sure a lot of them are nasty cows in real life who aren't at all as accepting as they claim to be on here

DewinDoeth · 08/06/2010 14:35

Allnew meant to say I appreciate your good (and indeed brave) work on the thread. Sensible comments - but the rest are so narrow-minded. Ugly!
I now owe you a drink when you arrive on Anglesey! Are you on FB btw? I don't know who's who on there. I can message you that way, or over e-mail: I'm sara dot e dot roberts at bangor.ac.uk (This is for campsites!)

pleasechange · 08/06/2010 14:37

Not on FB but I will email you, thanks

DewinDoeth · 08/06/2010 14:51

OK, wasn't sure. If you have seen any campsites you like the look of or something, give me the names and locations and I can say yes/no - next door to the sewage plant etc.

ktpie · 08/06/2010 14:56

Dewin - Just had a quick look and remembered why I rarely look at anything other than this on MN these days. What a load of horrible old cows!

Eddie - Did you notice the playhouse was "Pinic on the Patio" looks good though.

Holidays all sound good, and I am impressed at Neenz going camping when 7 months pregnant, I was barely moving from the sofa at that point. I like the sound of your trailer tent, I have a secret desire for a caravan but DH isn't keen.

Nothing exciting happening here, J is mostly being naughty this week, when I tell him off he just grins.

Hope the scan went well for Amber.

abdnhiker · 08/06/2010 15:44

I had to check sybil's surname too.

DewinDoeth · 08/06/2010 16:34

ow, I'm rubbish with names and can't work out who Sybil is on facebook!

PiggyPenguin · 08/06/2010 16:52

that's cos I always forget about facebook and never post anything on it.

Here's a hint, think of a famous cleric, martyred on his own altar with the name 'Thomas A .....'. I bet you'll get there.

SpiderWilliam · 08/06/2010 17:35

Let's put it this way if Dewin can't get there, no-one can.

DebInAustria · 08/06/2010 19:05

Thanks Spider - he had a rough night, very hot and stomach pains, today was a bit hit and miss, would play for 5 minutes then groan a lot, culminating in a poonami at teatime and after that he has been sooooo much better.

I'm getting v impatient waiting for these buyers who have the cheek to leave the country and go on holiday whilst we're waiting around. I keep seeing houses I like on the internet, I know I should stop looking but I am addicted!

Rolf · 08/06/2010 19:52

Poor Ethan. I hope he's on the mend now.

Hope Amber is ok.

Amberc · 08/06/2010 20:13

Hi all, self centred post alert as haven't read through what's been going on. Had my scan today and all is well. In fact potentially too well. There are two sacs [eeek]. One had nothing in it that she could see but she said not to rule it out as it may be the angle (or it may just not be a baby). The other had a lovely little foetus with a strong heartbeat - hurrah! So deffo one, possibly two. My sister said she had a scan and there was a sac with nothing in it and when she went to the 12 week scan lo and behold there were two babies so God help me! I'm telling you all this before Mark! Again sorry for self centredness.

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 08/06/2010 20:23

You're allowed Amber great (if slightly daunting) news

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 08/06/2010 20:40

I should really be starting to research my next assignment, which is due on Monday but just to join in the general grumblings about the judgeyness on MN.

The 'she raised your DH/DP so must be ok' - well, there are some perfectly lovely people out there who have suffered abuse of varying levels who go on to have loving relationships and are brilliant parents, so someone being a good DP or DH has no bearing on whether someone is a good PIL (mind you, I do grumble about my bonkers SIL and the way she treats my p's and have been known to utter something about the fact that they raised 3 children perfectly well ).

My ultimate pet hate though is the fact that you can't even think a bad thought about a child without being rounded on - e.g. mention a cheeky toe-rag (sp?) down your street and all of a sudden he has a behavioural disorder, or the slightest misbehaviour could be down do some unforeseen SN (along with a lecture about how many SN's aren't visible). If I posted about the fact that one of the (many) reasons I want to erect a 6ft fence in my garden is the fact that we cannot go into the garden at all without the neighbour's very annoying 6 year old screeching over the fence at us, demanding to come and play in our garden, wanting to come into our house, screeching at S etc etc I would certainly be told that I was a horrible woman who should befriend the poor child and have it wished upon me that everyone hated my own child.

Oh, and my other pet hate is the fact that although you can't post the slightest opinion on anything without a demand for a link to research, there is an awful lot of anecdotal evidence dragged out to beat someone with. There are lots of things that people might not realise or understand (especially about SN for example) but this doesn't make them bad people or particularly ignorant. So instead of being really judgy about someone's views (while condemning them for being ignorant and judgy they should maybe be a bit more tolerant and understand that they might not have experience of said issue, could have lived a sheltered life, or might not even have benefited from a particularly satisfactory education.

I have more pet hates but I'll stop there

Deb sorry Ethan had such a bad time. Hope he's better tonight and that you get house news soon!!!

Dewin I'm really sorry that there's been name calling. Horrible folk. (I nearly called them horrible witches, but realised that could be construed as quite offensive to witches )

abdnhiker · 08/06/2010 20:53

yeah for Amber!!!

Dewin - sybil has the same first name as me. And those threads were beyond horrible today... I hope you and your DH are thumbing your noses at them and not taking anything to heart.

Amberc · 08/06/2010 21:00

Thanks Domestic!

I agree with all you have written about MN - I can't bear it - all the PC nonsense. Sometimes I have wanted to ask a question but thought twice as I knew I would get sent down in flames! I must ask Dewin though after reading a lot of the thread, why don't you teach Iestyn English at the same time out of interest? I think if I was lucky enough to know another language I would probably try to teach it at the same time. Just wondering. Oh and Luke is a perfect example that you can learn language off the telly (Dora)!

Deb, hope Ethan feels better. Luke has had oral thrush since last Thursday and has been in real pain with it poor love.

Neenz - I love the name Anna too. It's one of my faves, simple but beautiful.

I have done nothing but eat all day. I am starving again after a second dinner. I will be as fat as Heather from Easties soon. I also have SPD symptoms already. Puree has offered to lend me her crutches!
