night ladies, Miamla - remember your rubber sheeting please

monsterravinglongyway · 14/05/2010 00:01

hello, having a nice time with mum. babies well, managed to get a spelling mistake into my election name, tired as no sleep. love to all.

and cyteen ... re straggly looking boys. Boring, but DS's toes have looked better since I started putting him in socks, not just crocs and cutting his toe nails with clippers (when tired and sleepy at the end of the day in front of the TV). I also cut his hair (stick him in front of the TV with food, or strap him into the buggy).

I would use clippers but they make him cry so I just use scissors. It's easy if they are blond. Just hold a bit of hair at 90 degrees to his head, and if it looks too long snip it off. Takes about 2 minutes.

There are also childrens hair dressers here where they sit the kids in a car and chop round them, but this costs money and cutting his hair myself appeals to my miserly side. I'm getting better at it, but perhaps am fortunate that he is blonde

springaporesling · 14/05/2010 02:31

Well you lot have cheered me up after a miserable night. Had to join conference call with some people in US at 9pm. Then at 10pm got e-mail basically saying that something that I'd been sorting out for the whole week with colleagues on the other side of the world got completely screwed up so was trying to sort that out till gone midnight. DH was out for some work drinks and supposed to be back at 11pm and eventually rolled in at 2am . Then DS woke up at 5.30am. DH was of course dead to the world - I've been up every morning between 5 and 5.30 this morning and my resolve of trying to get DS to go back to sleep was about nil we even had a mini-argument about it 'DS lie down and go to sleep or Mummy will go' DS - 'noooo sleep toys' Me - 'No it's still night time lie down and go to sleep' DS - 'change nappy' Me - 'No it's not dirty go to sleep' DS - 'Mummy cuddle' - unfortunately due to extreme tiredness I got suckered into that one and no sooner had I picked him up than it was 'down, down, steps, toys'. So am (in no nod to Miamla's DB of course) designating this weekend my birthday weekend. Extra long lie-ins for me I think.

Dizzy Bibi is one of my cat's names...

Miamla we have a Maclaren Techno XT and on the whole have been pretty happy with it. It has taken a lot of knocks too as it is fairly well travelled and survived being thrown around by baggage handlers etc. Also fine for DH who is fairly tall - you can adjust the handles a bit. Hope you got it.

I'm a bona fide Aug 08er too - original EDD 18/08/08.

Hi LWFH glad you are having a nice time with your Mum - any progress on DS eating?

springaporesling · 14/05/2010 02:33

That should have of course said every morning this week - doh!

springaporesling · 14/05/2010 04:03

Forgot to mention DS got bitten on the cheek at music group yesterday - just to add to our wonderful day! He was in some tussle over a toy. He didn't half scream - about as much as the culprit. I felt quite sorry for his Mum as having been there I know it feels dreadful however I did get some weird sense of relief and satisfaction that it wasn't DS. The mother said he'd bitten another child at pre-school that morning - she's about 3 weeks off having DC2 and I think maybe DS1 is aware that something is going on.

MrsMiamla · 14/05/2010 06:57

good morning springalingalong

well for the first time in absolutely ages DS slept through all night!!! Now, I should be fully refreshed, right? no! DH must have been dreaming or something in the early hours because he was sitting bolt upright staring at me. I convinced him to lie down (after I"d ask him what on earth he's doing!)

also DS didn't wake with crying this morning, he was in his room calling for us

ooh, and DH had cleaned the kitchen before he came up last night. Result all round!

hope everyone else's nights were as good. sorry to hear yours wasn't spring. is DS's cheek ok? DS got hit at toddler group this week. but to be fair, the mother came over and forced her child to apologise. DS wasn't bothered about the apology, he just wanted them both to go away so he could have a 'mummy cuddle'! Is it daft that i don't mind it so much when DS gets hurt if the other mother actually cares? its when they leave them to run riot, not watching them that i don't like

i hope you sent S in this morning to give his daddy a nice early cuddle

MrsMiamla · 14/05/2010 07:00

sorry lwfh, missed your post earlier....hello to you too

dizzydixies · 14/05/2010 07:17

morning all, snoorreeee - better night but still tired. I got up as DH shattered from nightshift but have only managed to give D some cheerios in a tub with no milk so far

raining again but hey, it is Scotland so we could have 4 seasons by 9am.

I have two birthdays today, one is my friends wee girl - she'll be 1yr old. She was delivered due to complications at only 28wks and it was horribly worrying for all but am pleased to report she is a wee cracker and coming on great. The other is my friends wee rough and tumble 2yr old so a happy day all round.

cheerios now on the floor and DD2 up sneezing all over the place so a Happy Friday to you all - I'm off for a bacon sandwich (well is is Friday) washed down with some spatone and an iron tab - we know how to live up here

dizzydixies · 14/05/2010 07:20

oh and its payday today so have just checked my account and I'm now £34 in credit roll on the Euro millions

RedLentil · 14/05/2010 08:45

Shurely shum mishtake there Dizzy. Missing a few OOOOOOO?

dizzydixies · 14/05/2010 09:00

Unfortunately not Red due to overdraft

LadyGardenia · 14/05/2010 09:52

Gosh I don't know what was going on last night but ds2 could not sleep, v unusual, and now I feel terrible as well as tired because at the last gasp I left dp to deal with him and now the poor man has had to go off to work at the crack of dawn looking as pale as a sheet of paper. At least I can sleep during naptime if I need to.

dizzy will you set up your baking blog today? Then it will be well established by the time you are posting special Father's Day suggestions.

Sazz - didn't realise I had a msg waiting will go off now to see it. Sometimes FB doesn't notify me, or sometimes in an ongoing message thread thing it notifies me maybe every 5 msgs but I can never be arsed to sort out my settings .

LadyGardenia · 14/05/2010 10:28

It's dp's birthday in June, am thinking of getting this done - naff or nice? I have been saving my pennies and want to get him something nice. He does wear cufflinks every day for work.

How it works is they send you special clay, you do a print of the child's finger, send it back, they cast the piece.

Thoughts?

cyteen · 14/05/2010 10:30

They have all been at it then? Bad sleeping, I mean...another 4.45 wake up although DP got up with him so I can't complain.

lwfh believe me, I have tried cutting hair and nails when in front of the telly/in the pushchair/sleepy and distracted/eating something delicious. Any approach with the scissors results in instant electric eel thrashing, which obviously makes continued cutting a bit dangerous. Even a touch on his hair makes him do the tortoise head pull in thing.

Hairdressers were about as much use as a chocolate teapot. My next trick is going to be a synchronised haircut with DS and his little mate. Hopefully they will distract each other and not turn on us!

Supposed to be working, laterz

LadyGardenia · 14/05/2010 10:30

cyteen I used to cut ds1's hair while he was asleep.

monsterravinglongyway · 14/05/2010 10:40

thanks, springasingalong yes, better. - sleep is appalling, but eating better, so one out of 2! Yes, 5.30am starts are horrid ...

DD sitting in DS's high chair, very cute.

LG cufflinks look great. But - my DH wouldn't wear them as he is very fussy about what looks smart or not, but this is very individual.

LadyGardenia · 14/05/2010 10:56

LOL yes I am slightly wondering if dp would say with forced brightness "O how truly lovely" and then bite his lip every time he had to wear them .

springaporesling · 14/05/2010 11:44

LG I got some done for DH's Christmas present and he really likes them. Only problem is he doesn't have too many shirts that take cufflinks anymore plus he's scared of losing them so they only get taken out for special occasions - they were worn at the wedding. Also I got DS handprint (which is then reduced obviously otherwise cufflinks would be rather large) as saw some samples of the finger prints and you couldn't see any of the whorls just an indent.

Dizz hope you remembered the OJ! (Was going to mention it too but Oops beat me to it)

hotterpotter · 14/05/2010 12:05

Hello everyone

We are off to Norwich in a few minutes to spend the weekend with a lovely friend, so see you all on the other side of Saturday

CrispyTheCrisp · 14/05/2010 13:29

Afternoon. Morning spent as duty parent at pre-school. No major incidents so went ok

Re early wake-ups DD2 has been much better the last few days with 6.30/6.45 and we have been able to leave her to gone 7 with her just amusing herself in the cot. I really hope this improvement is permanent as it would be lovely to get a full nights sleep. One small issue is that i then need to sort out DD1 not to wake me at 2am as she has done the last 2 nights

Lady I agree with Spring that the hand/foot prints are much better than the thumb prints. If it were me i would have a hand on one and a foot on the other

dizz is it Euromillions tonight?

Where is oops BTW? Was there not a MW visit today

OP posts:
cyteen · 14/05/2010 13:33

Crispy sounds like E has swapped her sleep pattern with J then, as that is just what he was doing until about a week ago...now it's 5.30s and 4.45s I doubt it will be permanent though, he's had so many blips and changes. It's just knackering while it lasts!

poppysocks · 14/05/2010 13:59

I've seen those thumbprint cufflinks LG but liked the idea more than the reality iyswim. I'm planning to get a pair engraved with their dates of birth for fathers' day instead. Just trying to decide whether it's to be obvious DOBS - 26.02.06 and 08.08.08 or the more random, less likely to be identified as parental schmaltz of 2626 and 888. Thoughts?

What a night you ladies had last night .

I'm reporting this not to be smug but because it's unusual/worthy of note but not a peep from DD2 until 7.55 this morning and when I went in DD1 was just opening her eyes . DD1 needed the sleep though following the most incredible meltdown last night that culminated in a TS style dumping in a cold shower when I was out of negotiating ideas. Much better today . Asleep again too .
