MOrning all

Thanks so much for your lovely lovely support. Honestly, it's invaluable. I don't want to slag DH off to our friends or family, so it's great to be able to come on here and get it off my chest and have such lovely support. YOu are all stars.

DH got back late last night. I'd been lying awake fuming. Pretended to be asleep though as couldn't be bothered to speak to him! Cr*p me. Anyway, all seemed fine this morning, but haven't mentioned anything. Waiting for him to bring it up - no doubt tonight. But am determined to stick to my guns.

Off to Westfield in a minute - should be quite fun - meeting up with a couple of mates. Yay! Rush hour with a pram - I'll be popular. And a Bugaboo at that - hee hee!

Big love and thanks again. Lovely ladies.

Daisy: did you see the episode of Skins where JJ sang to a ukelele orchestra under a banner saying 'Sorry for being a knobjockey?'.

EffiePerine · 07/05/2010 08:47

Which I think is the bare minimum Mr Beans should do...

daisydora · 07/05/2010 09:15

Effie, no I didn't see it! But totally agree that Mr Beans should so it...hope you have a good day beans

Rubena · 07/05/2010 10:39

Knob jockey / knoboid - LOVE IT! I was up late watching the election but then, up periodically during the night A)with restless legs syndrome and B) agonizing over baby names Then had to take dh to the train station at 7am so snatched ds straight out of bed and into the car seat still in his sleeping bag lol shoved a piece of toast in his hand and he was a happy chappy
Hmm this hung parliament stuff - sort of get it but probably need our Aubs to dumb it down a little. A good friend has won his seat so guess he's an MP now (it was a bit of a given though) [well done to him]
Think i've thrown the back out lifting ds over the stairgate rather than opening it whilst standing on the 3rd step down - not ideal.
Gotta work today - good that I can sit a lot I spose!
beans glad tou feel a bit better and are going to stick to your guns....
Right, some food and a quick tidy up I feel...
ds's backpack with rein arrived yesterday - so cute! mil is going to test it out today [eek]

LadyThompson · 07/05/2010 10:50

Uuuurghhh. Got back from London town yesterday afternoon and stayed up until 4.15 watching the coverage and then got up at 8.30 to carry on (well, DD was my alarm clock). I do find it riveting. I think I actually enjoy members of all the main parties squirming and jockeying for position. DP went to bed about 1.30, the faintheart. I was hoping we wouldn't have a hung parliament because it gives the smaller parties so much power, and what's flamin' democratic about that? I suppose if you live in Northern Ireland or Wales it's very good, as the Democratic Unionists in NI and Plaid Cymru will be able to hold out for fantastic concessions in return for the their support in bills in the Commons. I don't think it will sit well if there are no cuts in Wales or NI and swingeing ones in England. Anyway, will shut up about that now.

Spot, I don't really enjoy being pregnant either and I never found a good alcohol free wine. Summer is right though, alcohol free Becks is good (but I am not a lager drinker). Last time, the lust for wine really troubled me. This time I have amazed myself by wanting it so much less. This may be controversial but if you drink half a glass of wine slowly with a meal or have a spritzer, I don't really think it's a problem. I have probably had 2 glasses of wine a week this pregnancy - I only had one glass of champagne in the first trimester last time.

Beans, exactly one week before my cs I went to visit my mates in Sheffield for a couple of nights. I saw my consultant on the same day and she raised her eyebrows at this, took a slightly dim view. And Sheffield is lot closer than Cumbria! To which end, to take the sting out of it, I think you need a recommendation from someone medical to say it's a crap idea or else a kind friend with 'authority' with your DH to suggest to him that it's a wee bit selfish.

Thanks for the advice on the mirror (and for looking on Ebay, Rubes!) It is absolutely vast and I have looked in a few places and it's really the only one that massive, so I will wait until the August Bank Hol (thanks Turnip!)

Aubi, I am so glad you are loving Babbington House. Ooooooh, I would so love a few treatments right now.

More to say but off to sort out DD and have a shower. She has a cough and a cold. She sounds like a tiny Bonnie Tyler.

SummerLightning · 07/05/2010 11:00

Hello,
Quick post from work...naughty....

Didn't stay up to watch election.....too tired after a bad night the night before so slept through the whole thing. I clearly know nothing about hung parliaments after my talking b*cks the other day but I am watching with interest to see what happens.

I don't like being pregnant either, it sucks, and I have easy pregnancies too. I like feeling the baby move but that is about it.

Beans I agree that as well as not being a particularly nice thing to want to do (going all the way to Cumbria to host people coming to stay) it's actually not that medically advisable to go so far at 36 weeks. I guess using this argument is difficult when you are going to Peterborough at 38 weeks too, but I think a family event that can't be done another time is much higher priority and also Peterborough really isn't that far!

Right got a meeting now gotta go.

Aubergines · 07/05/2010 11:00

Morning!

Have had 2 hours sleep and feel like a zombie but can't tear myself away from the TV. I am totally fascinated to see what happens next. Will the Lib/Labs strike a deal and keep the cons out if power? Could the Cons try a minority government. Might Clegg get into bed with Cameron? It seems to be that Clegg will lose half his support whichever way he leaps. I would not want to be him today. And when will Brown resign?

I am shocked by some of the results. MOs who I knew well who were confident of returning have been axes. Others who said their final goodbyes to us in April are back. There seems no real pattern. It is going to be so interesting at work.

Beans - sorry your DH is being so inconsiderate. Could one if his family take Whizz up their after his seminar so you get a nice weekend off. It will be your last chance for ages and you deserve it.

Spot - I hope you avoid morning sickness again but dint count your chickens yet. With DD1 I was v sick from 4 weeks so when I felt fine at 5.5 weeks with DD2 I was sure she was a boy. Then 24 hours later my head was in the toilet bowl where it remained for much of the next two months. However lots of people never get morning sickness whatever the gender and if you didn't have it the first time you will hopefully be one of those.

Sybs - I agree about loving the first timers when we were on the AN thread. It reminds you if the magic and excitement when you are old and jaded!

Kayz - I have a clingy toddler too. Nightmare when you want to get things done.

Right, off to get some kip while DH takes over fir an hour or two. Must. Turn. Off. The. TV.

LadyThompson · 07/05/2010 11:03

Oh, and I didn't mean to sound blase about being pregnant - I think children are so precious and a real blessing, and I love babies. In fact, I love children full stop. But the actual mechanics of pregnancy...just don't do it for me. My boobs have been hurting virtually since conception, for example! And I know they will do until a few weeks after the baby is born, and I hate it!

Oh, and Rubes, I have put on at least a kg and a half now. But it's like the scales are lying as some of my clothes are feeling the strain and I look as if I have put on more. Someone was asking me if I'd told people yet (I think it was ZJ) - and can you believe the answer is no!! DP's sister knows and a limited amount of friends and that's it. I am 19 week so it's getting a bit daft. However, am going to tell DH's Dad at the weekend and will tell my family when I next go up, which I think will be in the next couple of weeks.

Right, more later as I said.

Rubena · 07/05/2010 11:19

Lady and Spot I'm exactly the same re being pregnant - really don't like any part of it except the end result
my boobs are now udders, and really really sore, nothing fits, my tummy feels bruised, my nipples look like raspberries but it's hardly the case, as I feel I could light the gas with them, my skin is drier than the Mojave, I could go on...... But all of this and I can't even self medicate with a guilt free bottle of cheerfulness - aah but the end result is worth it

Veggiemummy · 07/05/2010 11:49

It's funny after DS1's pregnancy I would have (smugly) felt sorry for you 'pregnancy haters'. His pregnancy was a dream, all roses and lovely sweet things. I was on a cloud the whole time. But DS2's pregnancy brought me back down to earth, it was just hard, really hard. I actually had more sleep & energy after he was born! While I will always want one more I am quite happy never to be pregnanct again. I could go through a hundred more births (not sure if my bits would) but I really don't want to be pregnant again. Another strange difference in the boys is BFing DS1, apart from getting a breast abcess, was quite easy, but with DS2 is was incredible painful and much harder. He just didn't take to it like DS1. Now he loves it and is weaning down much slower than DS1 did but it was much harder in the beginning. So you BFers don't worry if you don't take to again as well as you did first time around.

Lady we actually had a bad example of smaller partied having balance of power in Australia. The last PM struck a deal with an independant far right MP to get his vote on the privatisation on our phone system. In return the MP demanded that the Govt put conditions on foreign aid from Australia. One of the conditions was that health agencies given foreign aid from Australia could not promote or give out condoms or any form of family planning other than abstinence and could not assist with safe medical termination of pregnancy. It's a sad policy that has actually cost many lives in poorer countries. Many aid agencies are desperately trying to fight it but so far to no avail.

daisydora · 07/05/2010 11:57

spot, summer and Ladyt I get where you are coming from about being pregnant. I really disliked it. In fact I downright hated being pg with DS. Love the end result, but really could have done without the whole 9 month thing! In fact it was a deciding factor in me not wanting 3 DC's.

aub I bet your job is very exciting at the mo! I have been sat in front of the TV all morning. I find this so interesting - what will happen next....I did my degree in Politics and keep having visions of my 'British Politics' lecturers getting very excited and giddy

Veggiemummy · 07/05/2010 12:47

I'm having a little rest today, I'm all stuffed up and feeling grubby. DH is home, he needs to work but is diverting the boys attention a bit and making lunch which is helpful. Unfortunately the house is a dump though, but will have to stay that way til I feel a bit better.

DS2's nap habits are slowly settling into this once a day nap. Up until today that one nap has been quite short so he is very tired by teatime. But today I went back to putting his whitenoise/water noise on again, haven't used it for ages and he slept an extra 30 mins so in total slept nearly 1&3/4 hours so hopefully I can get back up to 2hrs+. I think we only stopped using it when we moved over here and kind of forgot about it.

Beans33 · 07/05/2010 12:59

Hi Veggie - DD only has one nap a day now as well. She tends to go down at about 12.30 and up at about 2.30. Or sometimes will even stretch to 1pm -3pm. But she seems to have lost her appetite somewhat. She's never been a great eater, but of late it's got even less. Bit of a worry.

I'm quite enjoying this pregnancy, which I'm surprised by. Obviously am a bit bored of being tired all the time and being so massive. BUT I love feeling the baby kicking and having my boobs back, having gone to pitta breads!

Beans33 · 07/05/2010 13:11

I'd put DD down and could hear her still chatting. Went in and could smell a gift in her nappy. So I said "Ooh, have you done a poo poo" - she was pointing to her nappy saying "poo poo" - I was very impressed. But as she repeated it, she changed it into "bubble", which is a regular word in her vocabulary, so not quite as impressed after that!

LadyThompson · 07/05/2010 13:27

I bought my DD a rubber duck in Switzerland in Swiss national dress (She has a thing about ducks). She knows 'duck' (in fact every bird is a sodding duck apart from an Owl, just like every mammal is a dog) - but she kept calling the duck a flower ("fwower" - very cute). I kept saying duck, puzzled, and she started to shout flower. Then I noticed she was pointing to a flower on his poncy Swiss costume

That is a very indulgent Mummy story I know, (sorry!) but frankly she is being such a little monkey at the moment that I need to concentrate on the good things The way she tries to divide and rule, even at the tender age of 1, is quite outrageous. If I tell her off she appeals to DP with her arms up and a piteous face (I was going to say like an Australian batsman But I will say a South African batsman and not offend any of my good friends on here )

LadyThompson · 07/05/2010 13:29

Oh, and Veggie, I hope you feel better soon. Coffee and chocolate for you! I am not a choc fan but I do like the stuff we got in Switz - milk chocolate with crunchy salted caramel! The salt really works (for me). That is a very interesting (and worrying) illustration of small party power which you describe. I hadn't heard about that.

sybilfaulty · 07/05/2010 14:09

Just whipping on... LadyT there is 25% off your mirror mto.lauraashley.com/upholstery-and-furniture/furniture/mirrors/detail/3407512/patricia-floor-mirror- silverhere - would that be enough to make it viable?

Sorry you are crook, Veg. Am feeling the strain today too. My arms and legs hurt, and I feel very tearful and overtired, even though I am not. I have work tomorrow and some rotten session about public law which I don't really understandt and cannot get any time to get my head round either. DH being a bit of an arse as well. I could jump in my motor with the kids and just keep going today. But I won't . Nice thought though.

sybilfaulty · 07/05/2010 14:09

sorry girls, let's try the link again here

Beans33 · 07/05/2010 14:10

Oh, Lady - I love it when they are pointing at something and making the right noise and you're trying to correct them, then suddenly realise they were right all along! V sweet. O sounds just gorgeous. Fwower is v mature!

I went to Westfield this morning - wow it's daunting. But I did buy a gorgeous outfit from Pumpkin Patch - its a little all in one shorts and top outfit and so sweet! It's for age 3, because they look tiny, so thought DD could squeeze into it with a nappy this year and without next year! V excited for summer! Please let it be nice this year!

Veggie, sorry you're feeling crap. I can sympathise as am only really starting to feel better now today. I've just had a large coffee and a twirl I found in the cupboard - bit melted from being in the car, but delicious nonetheless. Plus I had salmon and asparagus for lunch. Yummy!

Beans33 · 07/05/2010 14:12

Sorry, Syb - cross posted. I'm so sorry you're having a rubbish day. I hate those - have them quite often myself! Thinking of you. DH's are sent to be total bastards, I think. Makes us realise how wonderful we are!

I'm dreading DH coming home tonight and wanting to have the conversation about Cumbria all over again...

LadyThompson · 07/05/2010 14:15

Thanks Sybs! I think they are toying with me. It's still very very dear. I will have to check with DP, even though my Mum gave the money to me. It's a heck of a wedge to blow on a mirror, but like I said, it is my only new treaty thing for the entire house (I refuse count appliances as treats )

Also, I don't actually know whether to get silver, gold or white.

I am sorry your DH is being an arse. I think there's something in the air, DP is acting quite strangely as well. You are probably very tired, even though you say you aren't. Can you get any time for you today? Deep breaths...and big hugs to you.

Veggiemummy · 07/05/2010 14:17

Well as you can imagine it was kept very quiet. It has been highlighted recently as lobby groups are trying to get the rules of aid changed. It doesn't need any sort of vote in parliament it just needs the current govt to change the wording on the aid policy document.

I love MissLady's insistence on the fwower, good to see she will stick by her guns! I love your latest pics on FB. I really should upload some latest shots.

We have finally decided we will still go to Southern France for hols in July. We want to catch some of the Tour and fancy a bit of a dip in the Med so will have a look around the Riviera for camping grounds. We've recently told DHs work that we don't use his work car (which will soon be a 7 seater Touran) private use so we can't take it with us which is a shame so will have to hire something instead.

Aaaahhhh I do need chocolate I also need fewer children around me, DH is still on a work call and the boys are just wanting constant attention. I need a cup of tea.

LadyThompson · 07/05/2010 14:22

Yes, she's got the obstinacy gene all right - it runs quite deep on both sides

South of France will be just lovely.

I love Westfield, Beans, but need to stay away from retail temptation.

Veggiemummy · 07/05/2010 14:25

How can you not be overtired Sybs you have 3 kids that's just par for the course isn't it, if your sore as well you might also be brewing a cold. Not far that you have to do learning type stuff tomorrow, it's Saturday!

Hey speaking of learning stuff, how was wednesdays course Lady?

What Knobilistic things is DH doing Sybs?
