Jam I am tempted to tell you I have buns of steel as you may never meet me but I should be truthfully and tell you they are more bread dough then steel, same with my thighs. I am trying, I cycle as much as possible in the hardest gear and ride fast if the road and traffic permits it. Your weekly routine sounds pretty demanding! You must be pretty buff. I am hoping to be motivated to take advantage of living so close to the beach and waterways and do some openwater swimming here. Thankfully I have a swimming wetsuit (I'm going to need it). They are a lot more chilled out about swimming in open waterways here (obviously not the canals) and there are nice little lakes and nice places to swim. Just must get to it though.

katie3677 · 20/05/2010 10:07

Bloody Nora, I have been lurking, but absolutely no chance of keeping up with all you natterers!
Rubes, I second/ third whatever Veggie has said. Explain to them that the closer you get to the birth the more you have realised how tough things are going to be in the first few weeks and you will have so much on your plate that you would rather be able to see them in our own time. Get them to stay at her sisters and then just come over for visits when it is convenient to you. This is the one time in your life you are allowed to be completely selfish. From experience, those first couple of weeks with a newborn and a PFB are incredibly difficult, every minute not spent with the baby will need to be spent giving your other baby as much attention as possible. It is a difficult transition.
Re a meet up, Rubes, Lady and I have planned a meet up in Moreton in Marsh (lovely village in Glos) for w/c 7th June if anyone else is interested. I think we are trying to go for the Tuesday or Wednesday and do late morning coffee/ early lunch.
Can we sop with the poo stories please, totally grossing me out , but also making me laugh out loud which I need at the moment!
It's all go on the cottages front, we even moved some furniture across yesterday. DH's brother is looking around tonight to give us some advice (he's a builder), I have got estate agents coming here tomorrow to get this place on the market, meeting mortgage company next week and have got solicitors etc in place. All I need now is an architect. Anyone know of any friendly ones who might be able to help?
I am totally crapping myself as there is so much to do, and it all feels a bit grown up, but exciting nonetheless.
Must go, I have a client conference call in ten minutes and haven't done any prep. Back later x

Quick message before I race off to Mum's.

Kiwi, I am jealous of the trip to Terre a Terre - read AA Gill's review of it the other Sunday and even a notorious vegetarian hater/baiter like him loved it. Monday - my scan is at 11 on Harley St then my consultant is 2.30 in Paddington. If I can pop down for an hour in between, if folk are in Barnes, I shall try to do so.

Avo, was wondering when CD was getting married, I knew it was quite soon. I am not a great fan of telling her precisely how we met. If 'a baby group' doesn't cut it (most people lose interest immediately you say those words and press no further, but obviously a good friend of yours with a baby might be more curious!) I think we just say a little group that was set up when we were pregnant that was friends and friends of friends and grew from there. I like it being a private-(ish) little haven on here.

Wow, Jam - shorts?? Is it really going to be that hot? Seems quite murkey here! I am excited if it is, as I can sit in Mum's garden whilst she brings me endless drinks

Veggie, I think you are going to have to change your name to Buns of Steel.

Oh, and Rubes, I think an email isn't a bad idea. You can make the tone of it very reasonable. It's not like you have been able to have sensible conversations on the phone with either of them recently. Truly, I think this is a time for pleasing yourself and doing what YOU want.

Right, back Saturday night, then orf to London on Sunday.

Veggiemummy · 20/05/2010 10:27

Lady are you going to tell your mum your clackered?

SummerLightning · 20/05/2010 10:35

Rubes, you could say something like your DS is being a bit difficult and possessive at the moment and so you've realised that it's going to be hard for him at the start and so you don't want people around confusing him in addition if you want an extra excuse??

veggie i also think you should be BunsOfSteel. Or a play on it. How about SteelMyBunsOf? Being silly now!! Or whatever Buns is in dutch followed by OfSteel?

DS waking at 6 as opposed to 7 as well, so just blacked out his room with a travel blackout blind, which I figured would be useful for hols next week. It's dark in there now!!! 6 obv isn't so bad but 7 would be better! Bloody DS, i thought I was being really organised, I went into town to get blackout blind, back just on 10 when local toddler group starts. 9:55 awake. 10 - asleep. Pointless going as he sleeps for an hour at least usually and it's only 1.5 hrs long. Bah. I was quite looking forward to it for once as I have nothing else planned today. Him and his random naps.

Right I'm going to have a sleep. Bet he wakes up now.

Oh I wanted to say LadyT that GP sounds great! Like the "she doesn't see an advantage in walking at the moment" bit!!

SummerLightning · 20/05/2010 10:36

Oh and Zoe thanks for phone no, will send you mine!

Rubena · 20/05/2010 10:52

yeah not a bad idea Summer - but I think i'll just put it down to the latest saga with the phone call etc from his dgf has made me re-think things
ds has been weird with naps too. I think since his teeth are really bothering him again he is getting knackered in the day. he was going well with just an afternoon nap but recently gets really tired and wants the morning one too. He didn't make it past 1030 and was trying to sleep on the floor while I was tidying up so have put him in his bed and he's out
I might have a nap too (knackered since my 12-130am phone call to mum)

Beans33 · 20/05/2010 12:02

Definitely have a sleep, Rubes - I try to have one while DD sleeps at the moment and it's making a real difference to my state of mind .

Oh my God, I suddenly remembered that I had an erotic dream about bloody David Cameron last night. WTF! It was amazing, but horrific in retrospect. Bleugh. Could have been worse... Gordon Brown springs to mind!

Bodemvanstaal · 20/05/2010 12:34

Can you believe bottom in Dutch is Bodem. I have friends who think they are posh with their Bodem cafetiere. How funny!

Beans33 · 20/05/2010 12:47

OH MY GOD! DEAD MOUSE UNDER THE CUPBOARD. WHAT DO I DO WITH IT? Honk!

spotofcheerfulness · 20/05/2010 12:50

Love the name Veg.
Beans, throw it into the garden with some marigolds on then disinfect the cupboard! Wrap it in newspaper if you're squeamish.

Beans33 · 20/05/2010 12:57

I rang my sister, who told me it's best not to touch them when up the duff, which was perfect excuse to get my neighbour round to do it! He was quite happy to. And disposed of it for me. Have disinfected the floor where it was lying. VILE! It was near where DD plays too. God, don't remember seeing it earlier, so hoping it's quite a recent death. Skin crawling. That was worse than David Cameron dream. AND my neighbour said it was a small rat, not a mouse. DEAR GOD! Thank god we're moving house! grim grim grim.

spotofcheerfulness · 20/05/2010 13:03

Nice on getting the neighbour involved . Better dead than alive, I s'pose...

JollyBear · 20/05/2010 13:08

Hello everyone,

Love the name change veggie!

Oh dear beans, do as spot says! Double yuck at your DC dream!

spot You should have said you were ooop north. Chipping is v close to my parents. If you come up again we could have a mini meet up with daisy. rubes Now DS is in his big boys bed, have you especially baby-proofed his room? I'd be concerned that DD would pull drawers on herself and generally cause herself mischief if she was let loose in her room.

katie How exciting about your cottages. Are you knocking them together?

summer Where did you get your travel blind from? It sounds very useful. Oh and it is lovely that DS says bike, very sweet!

ladyT Sounds like your GP has his head screwed on! Zoe's stats were great too, just shows that O is not alone in being on the small side.

Yesterday at nursery DD polished off her chicken pie, obviously still felt peckish so reached across to the girl next to her, tipped her lunch into her own bowl and started to tuck in . It was only about 3 weeks ago I was stressing because she wasn't eating anything!

I think we are going to go ahead and buy my parents house, eek. Although it further complicated by them finding a smaller house they like... next door . Useful in some ways but really terrifying in others. I'm rather hoping they don't get it . Awful I know!

Rubena · 20/05/2010 13:12

Yuk Beans - Glad you have sorted it. I found a dead bee in the spare bedroom which is massive so I flushed it but it won't flush which is annoying. I'm sure one of dh's toilet visit's will push it down - if that won't nothing will. I didn't nap, but gee it was nice to have ds nap (2 hours!!) then come out of his room and bellow from the top of the stairs so my lazy fat arse didn't have to walk the hall to get him
I have been tidying as we have a quarterly inspection.
Nothing from brother gate. Will construct an email tonight. I forgot anyway, that a couple of days ago his ex bitchy wife announced that she is not allowing him to take the kids on this upcoming holiday (which she can do) but he announced to her that her having the kids every 2nd week will be stopping if that's the case (which he can do too) I've not heard the outcome of that either and I'm kind of hoping it sticks (is that awful of me?) though I've heard it all before....
I just feel sad that I always so badly looked forward to seeing my brother and now I'm trying to avoid it. Hope that passes...

Beans33 · 20/05/2010 13:14

Wow Jolly - that would certainly be close quarters! How would your DH feel about them being next door?

Am starting to recover from rat horror. But only just. No desire for a sleep now. yick. Just hope hope hope DD didn't touch it. I don't think she did. Oh LORD!

Rubena · 20/05/2010 13:17

Jolly - no I've done nothing. He's pretty good at just playing with his toys - and pushing and pulling the wardrobe doors back and forth, throwing things into the bath and playing with the bathroom scales, but we just make sure the gate at the top of the stairs is always shut (it's self closing bu still needs a push) and we sometimes shut the other bedroom doors. This morning I left our bedroom door open and he played for a bit in his room then came straight into ours at about 730 which was fine. But all he does then is just re-programs dh's clock radio / alarm and then tugs on my arm. We don't have any drawers in his room yet but I'm planning on getting some soon.

Rubena · 20/05/2010 13:26

Katie - I meant to say. I think that week is ok for me too - I can't see anything going on until the following so pencil me in!

traceface · 20/05/2010 13:31

slow down!!!! I can't keep up!
Jolly that sounds very exciting and scary at the same time about your parents' house...have they kind of asked your opinion/permission about buying the one next door, or would they go ahead whatever you thought? Tricky...but useful too!
Bodemvanstaal nice name! I have bodem van jelly . I was supposed to start my netball club yesterday but was too pooped to go.
beans pregnant damsel in distress - glad your neighbour was there to save you from the RAT! Have you recovered?
And Pubes don't you think bees are massive this year? Bigger than normal. No wonder the fella wouldn't flush!
Lady what a relief to hear a sensible opinion on little O. Hope you have a fab time at your mum's.
L has stopped being sick (finally stopped about midnight) but today has a temp of 40 and is obviously exhausted so I've taken the day off work. It's wasier than yesterday though as p is at nursery today. Phew. L won't eat or drink . Poor thing. Hope she perks up soon.
Wanted to respond to something from a couple of days ago but it's gone. Hmm. It will come back to me...
Time for more calpol for L I think. Back later xxx

OP posts:
Rubena · 20/05/2010 13:33

Yeah I've never seen a bee quite like it Trace - in fact I was questioning if it was in fact a bee

traceface · 20/05/2010 13:33

wasier?

OP posts:
traceface · 20/05/2010 13:34

perhaps it was a small, round, stripey bird with a kazoo?

OP posts:
Beans33 · 20/05/2010 13:41

Trace - that is very sweet! Little kazoo. Gorgeous!

Right, need to calm down about rat. Have had lunch, but had lost my appetite substantially. Grimbo.

Rubena · 20/05/2010 13:46

Trace

Beans, wish my appetite would go away. Though had a very restrained 2 pieces of toast and some ham at breakfast, some rice and veg for lunch and going to have soup for dinner. I have gained 2 kg in about the last 2 weeks

Beans33 · 20/05/2010 14:07

Rubes - be careful. Don't restrict your diet - if you're hungry, eat. You're up the duff. I give up worrying about my weight while I'm pregnant. Try not to go overboard, but if I want to eat something, I will eat it. The one thing I don't do is finish up DD's meals. That's a dangerous road, I reckon!

I've put on 2 stone this pregnancy so far - which is 12kg. And I'm really not worried about it. It'll be hard work, but I figure I can worry about it after having the baby. For now, as long as I eat relatively healthily, then can have treats of chocolate and stuff as well if I really want them. In fact, just had some chocolate ice cream, which was yummy!
