We filled up a thread without even noticing!

Primary school outcome for dd today . They say that the emails will be sent out by 6pm (though may take longer to get through to us).

They do get so frustrated at this age don't they. No sense of perspective so life just seems soooo unfair. Twenty minute tantrums sound horrific. Was your dd the same, Pistachio? V impressed with your dd's bike riding skills btw.

I'm completely clueless about potty training so will be watching with interest.

What kind of thermometer do you use with your LOs? We've got one of those forehead strip ones but S doesn't like us to use it, and I'm not sure that they're very accurate and I couldn't get him to keep one of those mouth ones in his mouth long enough.

CSWS - Has that baby turned yet?

Evening all, we have an ear thermometer, but take their temperatures so rarely it invariably needs new batteries every time we get it out. Normally i just use my hand on their forehead .
DS1 is 6 (last week!) and we took his stabilisers off about 10 days ago when he insisted. He was fine and cycling like a pro in about 15 minutes.
We've just put the 2 boys into bunk beds in their room today, and DD into the cotbed (in cot mode). Absolute chaos. I was downstairs with the kids and we could still hear DH upstairs drilling and swearing well past bedtime! Then he gets all stroppy cos they're overtired by the time they finally get upstairs, THEN, they are way over-excited by all the new stuff!
DD took the longest to get to sleep, she's curled up right in the corner of the cot as it must seem so huge, poor poppet!

StarExpat · 01/06/2010 08:09

We have an underarm one. it works well, but takes ages (it's like myjob's I think). My cm has one that she just puts on his forehead for a few seconds and it reads the temp (not the strips, just looks like a grocery store scanner ).

DH is home with Q this week and we have viewings ... I know our home will not be up to my standards of clean and I hope this doesn't put anyone off.

She was in the baby size cot pistachio, she didn't really need to move as she fitted just fine ( I only bagged up her 9-12 month clothes this weekend!) but DH was on a mission.
She's in our little room, the boys have to share as we only have 3 bedrooms so the bunk beds have made a lot of space for their toys.
Star - i suspect that even several degrees below your standard of "clean" will impress absolutely everyone as spotless!

pepperrabbit · 01/06/2010 10:08

That should read "our smallest room" not little room - makes it sound like 3 of us have a tiny room and the boys swan around in the rest of the house!

StarExpat · 01/06/2010 14:31

Viewing cancelled today.
DH was entertaining Q at the library this morning. I think they are going swimming tomorrow. He will find it challenging to wake him by 3.30, especially since he was still not in bed at 12.45 when I called. He doesn't technically go down for his nap until about 1pm but often falls asleep before then. It's very tricky getting him to wake up by 3 or 3.30pm. But needs must as he needs to sleep at night, too!

CantSleepWontSleep · 01/06/2010 15:11

We use an in ear thermometer. I'm not very good at getting consistent readings, but dh seems to manage better. Dd has only really ever had a temp when teething, and with ds I have always been able to tell just by feeling the back of his neck or his chest whether he has one or not, so the thermometer is only used to determine just how severe a fever it is.

No, cf, baby hasn't turned yet. Have arranged to see my consultant on Friday so that he can hopefully arrange some ECV for early next week (ideal time is 36-37 weeks, and I'm 36 weeks today). I am due THIS MONTH although if we can get it to turn then it will prob stay put until well into next month.

I am quite sure that your 'untidy' house will be viewed as immaculate by others star.

StarExpat · 01/06/2010 15:18

oh csws I hope that baby turns on its own. Are you tired of being pg and want the baby out or are you hoping for some extra time to prepare for him/her?

Well, viewing was cancelled for today but another scheduled for tomorrow at 12noon. Can't wait to see what mess I come home to today.

CantSleepWontSleep · 01/06/2010 15:28

I think on time or just a couple of days late would suit me nicely star, as long as I get to relax in the knowledge that it has turned so can be left to come out naturally. Although in some ways I'm fed up of being pregnant, we're also not actually ready for baby to arrive (haven't bought moses basket mattress or set up crib or amby nest yet, although we could obv arrange quite quickly if needed), and we are currently thinking that dh might start work in the middle of the month and thus be abroad for a week, and then the in-laws are away for a week, returning on my due date, so would give us more child care options if it could hang on til due date or just after.

StarExpat · 01/06/2010 15:38

I know this is going to sound really stupid, but I finally got my period today. I finally figured out when I last had it and it's actually quite late. And quite heavy. I really, honestly felt pregnant (or, like I did for that first bit with Q - totally exhausted, nauseous, hungry, dizzy...etc). Could this be another early miscarriage (I had one just before Q was conceived). We've been really careful but there was one time when we just used the withdrawl method. But were still careful. Really bad cramps, too - but I've had bad cramps ever since Q was born so not sure if these are much worse. And I don't usually get heavy periods. Sorry if TMI here and it makes anyone feel nauseous... but the word ECV just made me nauseous, too .

I suppose it doesn't really matter either way, right? But it would explain a lot.

StarExpat · 01/06/2010 15:40

xpost csws. I hope baby turns for you and waits around! D gave you lots of extra time, so if it's a pattern for you with babies, hopefully this one will do the same

CantSleepWontSleep · 01/06/2010 17:30

It does sound quite possible star, yes. We have told you before that the withdrawal method is not a reliable contraceptive, so given how much it matters to you not to be pregnant, you must not rely on it again

You're all so polite - I bet ronshar will be more direct!! FGS star - take proper precautions - unless you (very) secretly want to be pregnant...

coconutfeet · 01/06/2010 19:13

Oh Star, I hope it wasn't that. The frustrating thing is that you'll never know. Agree with CSWS - don't rely on the withdrawal method if you don't want another baby. Expecially as you're meant to be more fertile after a miscarriage. Try and take it easy (difficult at work, I know) for a few days anyway.

CSWS - I can't believe you're having a baby this month!

That's what I needed the thermometer for on Saturday - To see how high his temp actually was. S had a fever and seemed really disorientated. He was burning up but shivering so much I thought at first he was having a fit (it was the middle of the night, things always seem worse then). His temp came up as 39 but it was on the crappy forehead thing and I wasn't sure whether to be worried or not. I think I should get an ear thermometer for future use.

StarExpat · 01/06/2010 19:38

I do not want to be pregnant. Especially not right now. But I'm really sad if it was a loss How ridiculous am I??
We won't do that again. Now I'm just

pepperrabbit · 01/06/2010 19:49

star - it could quite easily be a late heavy period, with all the stress of selling the house, Q's poor sleep and your DHs constant attempts to make us all cross on your behalf, it's very likely the cause. Don't be sad .

StarExpat · 01/06/2010 20:20

Ok I'm going to hope it's that. Just a heavy period. Very true that stress can cause it to be late. And I haven't been eating until dinnertime each day for a few weeks. I just couldn't get over the seemingly pg symptoms. I'd lay in bed every night thinking, "I know this is pretty impossible, but I feel pregnant" and would lay awake for hours worrying over it! ugh.

I can't believe you are having a baby this month either, csws. A little tiny bundle! What fun! I hope this one is easygoing like D. I can't believe how big he's getting... in fact all of our babies. The ones I see on fb... so much growth!

Poor S, cf Fevers are so scary ime/imo.
I hope he's doing better now.
I would have been on the phone with nhs direct. Such a freak.

coconutfeet · 02/06/2010 14:07

I did phone them Star! He'd perked up by the time the nurse rang us back and I felt really stupid. And he was absolutely fine by the morning, no temperature, nothing. Really odd.

Myjob - it sounds grim for your ds at the moment I hope it sorts itself out for you soon.

I put S for his nap in his cot without a BF for the first time ever today! Of course, he's napped loads of times in his buggy or in the car without me feeding him, and at the CM but never at home. He's always been such a milk monster. There were tears but he finally accepted a big cuddle instead.

Did you say you were also having moxibustion to try and turn the baby CSWS or did I imagine it?
