Quickie before nap time

Been to see local MW - I am not sure why I bother - today's advice was that an increase in alcolhol consumption for a 24hour period can stop pre-term labour SO a bottle of vino should do the trick I left just shaking my head! I won't be trying that one! For sensible answers I will wait until I see the hospital MW on Friday.

luckoftheirish · 26/04/2010 11:04

that is very strange advice oops .. agree with waiting til you see the other mw.. hopefully dd2 will stay where she is for the foreseeable future, although i keep checking on here to see if anything is happening.. how exciting ...

well cottage pie been made, trip to shops, cleaned all of downstairs in anticaption of dsd.. ye gods my life is boring atm..

the two friends who came around for the bbq yesterday were at me all day about what i was going to do with myself now dd2 getting bigger .. I HAVE NO IDEA!!! time to start thinking about things i guess

GladioliBuckets · 26/04/2010 11:59

No no that IS true! It was on Quantum Leap once! Sam had to deliver a complicated pre-term baby so he got the mum drunk to slow it down til they had everything they needed.

OrangePetal · 26/04/2010 12:18

I'm loving the Qunatum Leap medical advice!!

alittlebitshy · 26/04/2010 14:20

lol - i think oops's mw may be a quantum leap fan .

am truly a girly driver. took dh and his 2 parish workers to a conference they are at for 3 nights - is a 30 min drive but if they go by train it involves going into london to get a train then back out again and takes ages. all was fine until i got confused by lots of cones and ended up sailing past my junction off the m25 so had to carry onto the next one which also takes me home but adds about 30 mins to the trip. grr grr. poor ds had me shouting "bugger". "oh -silly mummy".

QueenofDreams · 26/04/2010 14:35

Lol at Quantum Midwife.
S refusing to nap. Aaaargh just go to sleep. Humph.
Calmer now and looking at double buggies

alittlebitshy · 26/04/2010 14:40

qod& my ds was refusing sleep too. he napped for about 30 mis in the car and was still desperately tired but as always, a car/buggy nap pre actual nap time took the edge off. he ended up howling but i meanly left him and he is asleep. won't get much more than 30 mins sleep as we have to get dd but hey, whose fault is that? not mine!

CaptainCaveman · 26/04/2010 18:12

Digging the new midwifery guidelines, I might have to share them with our Head of Midwifery! Nice one. Maybe alcohol is the panacea we all need

Cyteen big hugs and much love to you today (and always). I remember you were out for a walk for S's anniversary last year. Were you able to find a way to mark the occasion this year - am assuming you might've been at work or something today - forgive me if that sounds rude, it certainly isn't meant to?

alittlebitshy · 26/04/2010 18:36

cyteen - so sorry not to have passed on my thoughts for you today. lots of love and i hope you are coping ok and having happy memories.

cyteen · 26/04/2010 19:34

Ah thank you all. It's been a strangely busy day as the cat had to go to the vet's for 200 quid's worth of tests (has been losing weight while eating non-stop, and generally lost a bit of sparkle). So we had to drop him off this morning and pick him up at 5.30. I took DS to the usual stay and play thing which was lovely but incredibly weird, watching my beautiful boy jump around and make joyful noise while thinking 'this time three years ago I was watching it happen...this time three years ago I was in the hospital coffee shop waiting for Dad and SIL to come back with the death cert' etc. But generally it was okay.

Plus the cat seems to be okay apart from a few minor problems, so that's nice. Just got a quiet evening in with DP planned, few drinks, some talk, all that good stuff. He was there with me on the day so I think talking it over together will be a good thing to do. The whole experience was pretty traumatic and neither of us really give enough credit for that, so.

cyteen · 26/04/2010 19:36

But I do miss him. Very, very much, and I do have the strange feeling that he's near atm, like at this time of year the space between us is the thinnest and maybe he can see and hear me and know that he has a little nephew.

QueenofDreams · 26/04/2010 19:50

cyteen for what it's worth I envy the closeness you had with your brother. The way you talk about him just brings tears to my eyes.
Be kind to yourself tonight.

pertelote · 26/04/2010 21:07

Thinking of you tonight Cyteen. Hope you and DH are having the evening you need.

Dizzy thanks for being excited. If it's porn you want, this is the fantasy... POA stands for 'surprisingly affordable', doesn't it? [nervous blink]

at Oops' MW but at GB and Quantum Leap. Given the combined good sense and childbirthing expertise of MN that wasn't the first source of confirmation I would have expected...

QoD speaking of double buggies, I saw one the other day which was a double decker pram for twins (rather than anything any of us would actually need), so unbelievably cute though with its little round pods one on top of the other that for a split second I actually thought twins would be nice. Don't worry, I came to my senses very quickly.

RedLentil · 26/04/2010 21:17

You've been in my thoughts all day Cyteen.

I love the idea of the distance being the thinnest at the anniversary. That is a perfect way to describe it. It's wonderful that your dp knew and loved him too. It's so clear that he was a very special brother, husband and friend.

RedLentil · 26/04/2010 21:22

For what it's worth, I don't doubt for one second that Si is still with you, being a brother to you and an uncle to your darling boy.

lwfhthebagpipeplayer · 26/04/2010 23:45

Red I thought of you today. I walked past a health food shop and thought, you know what, I think that I will buy some red lentils.

Diarrhoea, vomitting, snot, more marking and a non-appearing cleaner mean that this was not a good day

RedLentil · 27/04/2010 00:11

. They're good for you, you know.

I'm marking here, too. I hate it. It's the bit of the job I like least. DH is pricing building materials for the extension next to me. When the whole thing is finished, maybe he'll be able to talk about something else.

It's great that he is doing it all though as I would just freak out about juggling all the practical details.

RedLentil · 27/04/2010 01:49

Top plank award to the student who suggested that your average sexual encounter involves the exchange of blood. DH suggested that I add a note in the margin 'You aren't doing it right.'

Still not equalling my favourite ever line:

'All the characters in Wuthering Heights are middle class apart from Heathcliff who is from Liverpool.'

springaporesling · 27/04/2010 03:59

Red great quotes!

Cyteen hope that you had a good talk with DP and a restful and reflective evening.

Pert more property porn please. That looks like our street in a different part of London but house not quite on that scale

dizzydixies · 27/04/2010 09:54

Cyteen sorry I couldn't get near a computer yesterday but you were in my thoughts all day, hope you're feeling ok today darling and thank you for your thought about the thinned veil, I think I might hold on to that in moments of saddness too if thats ok?

pert am so please to hear about your fond memories about your bedroom. We had a large family home with a double bedroom each [spoiled emoticon] and I am sometimes sad that we can't afford the girls the same privilages (benefits of a bank manager dad who's mortgage was about 20p) however I had some issues when i went to Uni and was a bit freaked out going from a large bedroom all to myself to staying in halls with hundreds of other students - at least the girls won't freak out about who hears them having a wee That house looks FAB btw, will chuck you a few bob when I win the lottery to help out

oops hope you're doing ok darling

QofD have you made a Dr appt - time to get the ball rolling!

Red ROFL at the quotes, am pretty sure I gave my uni tutors some moments

Sazz safe home from the land of wine and fromage - can't wait to hear all about it

work over till Thurs, am in doing extra for a few days at the end of the week. Girls out for day with A so I should be getting on with the house, I find myself infact sitting here watching Eastenders and MNing!!

Singapore I did say we could start talking names didn't we! I'm still strangely hesitant about it all but time to deal with the fact it is real and it is happening [meep]

names I'm loving at the minute include:

Imogen
Saskia - although I think this stems from the same as L's name so not sure
Penelope nn Penny - can't use though as SIL just bought a puppy and named it Penny
Beatrice nn Bea
Clemtine of Claudia nn Cleo but DH wouldn'th ave Clementine and although Claudia a beautiful name I find the meaning a tad tragic

middle names are normally after family members but considering the size of our families thats not an issue and if it IS a boy then we've still got all the names we never used

dizzydixies · 27/04/2010 10:19

really?!?!?!!?!???! my first day off shift and on here for ages AGES (at least 4 days) and nobody is here

GladioliBuckets · 27/04/2010 10:21

Well who wants a bit of drama then? I'm still feeling queasy off and on here so DH has said I must test. I'm not pg, would be too early to feel sick anyway and am on AF so will go to a poundshop as we are skint.

Other crazy notions, thinking of going bright allover redhead next month. Would be way way cheaper and I think I should be making the most of being young enough to wear darker hair.

OMG money is just pouring out of us at the moment that we don't have. Because I left rearranging the flights a few days, that's gone up £30. Spent the whole coffee morning's takings on Saturday's hen night so no idea when I'll be able to pay it to NCT! Still got to spend £500 on my car by July and have some money to spend in Corfu. Plus the Cornwall holiday in August.

luckoftheirish · 27/04/2010 10:46

ek buckets on money woes, fingers crossed it magics out of no where and on the still feeling queasy.. good luck with the test tho i guess if af still happening you should be ok? [hopefully]..

hey dizzy loving all the names .. hope you manage to get a restful day today..

went to my one to one pilates class this am for the first time in weeks and weeks.. got a call half way thru from h saying my car wouldn't start [he was bringing dd2 to cm].. normally would drop everything and go back home.. BUT i didn't as so fecked off.. told him to ring cm and get her to collect dd2 and call the AA...

had to come straight back from class and need to go wedding dress shopping for weddings in the next month but am now stuck waiting for AA man ..

he did however take dd2 car chair and said that he would collect her so i could still go shopping.. feel massively guilty me thinks

dizzydixies · 27/04/2010 11:10

poppy ryanair doing flights to Paris from Edin/Prestwick for £3 at the minute if you're thinking about a trip over at all? I know prestwick can be a pita to get to but sure the £3 makes it worthwhile?!?!

haven't moved from sofa need a rocket

hotterpotter · 27/04/2010 11:20

Hello

Just come in to harry DD into getting washed and dressed - she has been upstairs for half an hour but is still disappointingly dry

Dizzy what's the weather like up there? It's v summery here so we are playing outside, well DS is eating stones while I attempt to dig over the borders. One down, loads to go...

Grass is nearly dry too, the new tent has arrived and am very excited about putting it up

Buckets glad you had loads of fun, do you feel a bit like Arthur Fowler though spending the NCT money on a party

Loti well done on not coming at your H's call and making him sort it

Kids pestering....
