I'll get on there now Al ...

Glad you had a nice day at the pool Claire - Imogen also slept loads during the day today, I woke he up in the end from her second nap for same reason. I did wonder if the heat made her more lethargic, it certainly does that to me!!!

AlCrowley · 05/06/2010 21:21

Thanks Hendo. That's very generous of you.

Klerka · 06/06/2010 07:44

Good luck this morning Al! Hopefully the weather will be kind - it feels nice out there to me - and you're not too far away from me.

AlCrowley · 06/06/2010 09:05

18 degrees with white cloud according to the BBC weather page. Bit warm for running but definitely better than yesterday.

Thank you for the good luck

I was wondering. I have a sign for my back as well as a number for my front. It says "I race for life for" on it. I always add the name of my Grandma who died of cancer and this year will be adding the name of my friends Mum Does anyone have anyone else they would like me to add?

I'll be leaving in just under an hour...

Klerka · 06/06/2010 10:15

Think I've missed you... but my Nana please. Desdemona Caroline Grady! (or initials if you want)

Klerka · 06/06/2010 10:16

Actually looking at the time - I have obviously missed you. Sorry. Hope it goes well... thinkin of you!

Claire236 · 06/06/2010 12:44

hendo - I get quite jealous of ds2 sleeping so much when it's hot as I'd love to join him. I'm good for nothing in hot weather.

Work tomorrow

Al - how did the run go today? I hope it went well for you.

Claire - enjoy the adult company at work tomorrow, I hope you have a lovely first day back.

AlCrowley · 06/06/2010 20:04

Sorry Klerka, you did miss me. I would have happily put your Nana's name on my sign too. I ended up with my Grandma, and my friends Gran, Mum and Freind. So sad

Well, I ran most of it. I got to 7k OK but then got really bad cramp in my calf muscle and had to walk it out for a bit. Ran again once it had eased off but just before 9k they merged the 10k race and the 5k race again (they'd set off after us) and I got caught up with all the walkers. The marshalls were asking people to keep to the right to allow the runners through but people were just not listening and I was just too tired to weave through and around them! I even heard some women moaning that the race was about completeing it and getting the sponsorship, not running it all It was about running it and getting the sponsorship for some of us! It opened out again right at the end and I managed to run the last 200 meters or so to finish off in good style. I think I must have run about 8k in the end.

I'm disappointed in one way as I had really wanted to run it all but also quite pleased with myself for managing what I did on a very hot day after 10 weeks of training and only 5 1/2 months after a c section.

My time was 1 hour 18 minutes in the end. My friend ran it all and did it in 1 hour 10 minutes so even with my walking I only came in 8 minutes after her! I was so fed up with having to walk that I was powering along but I was a bit shocked that it was that close.

Hoping for another good night with Catherine tonight. She slept from 7pm till 4am last night (must have know Mummy needed to rest before the race) but I did get an hour of singing and smiling before she would go back to sleep. She then had another 2 hours till Alex woke us up at 7am. Having to grudgingly admit that maybe DH was right and she is better off in her cot in her own room rather than the crib in our room as she does seem to be sleeping better. Hoping we're not too far away from a full nights sleep.

Is it your first day back at work tomorrow Claire? Good luck.

Well done Al! You should really be very proud of yourself for your achievement today. I'm sure that those who's names were on your back would have been proud of you too.

Good Luck for tomorrow Claire.

Ds is very much like dd was with regard to daytime sleeps; with boob in mouth, in the car or in the buggy only. I remember once when dd was about the age that ds was now, I put her down in the middle of the bed when I was putting washing away in the bedroom. When I turned around she was asleep and I was sooo amazed I rang my mum to tell her!

hendo77 · 06/06/2010 22:32

Well done Al - I think you did fantastically well.

I don't really want to type it but... naps seem to be improving here in general over the last couple of days. If she's tired and we put her down she's starting to get herself to sleep quicker by sucking her middle finger. I seriously hope it continues Is still waking lots at night - I'm blaming it on the heat, just for something different to blame really!!!

Klerka · 07/06/2010 06:54

Well done Al... I think you did brilliantly!

Good luck at work today Claire, I hope it goes well.

Had a little BBQ for DH's son yesterday... DD did really well just sat on the blanket and eating. She had her sticks of sweet potato which seem to be her favourite and was properly munching and eating them, brought some salmon kebabs home which she will try a bit of today - it will be her first taste of anything not veg or fruit.

hendo77 · 07/06/2010 16:39

How was today Claire? I hope it all went well for you...

Klerka is your dd swalling things? Imogen tends to look surprised and spit out anything that dares to break off in her mouth unless it's gone to far back and then she swallows it!!!

Klerka · 07/06/2010 16:54

Hendo - yes she is now, it took a few days though - I can really see a difference in how she eating now. (Plus the nappies back this up!)

We went to a BBQ yesterday and I gave her some chicken in little pieces and they went down. She was holding her finger of sweet potato and most of that went down too. Today she tried some salmon for lunch which I had to give her in pieces also - I want her to try these things so I am offering her bits as well as hoping she'll pick them up too although they'll be tricky.

I am just about to make tea... an avocado sandwich and a 'finger' of chicken to see what she does with those as she will really be able to hold them and bite bits off if she so wishes!

Sorry... 'finger of chicken' made me smile... as DH told me a chef at work the other day sent a new commis chef to the fridge for a leg of salmon... who came back all flustered saying he couldn't find one.

hendo77 · 07/06/2010 17:30

hmmm... I think I need to put in more effort as Imogen still doesn't seem to be swallowing much and sort of coughs when she gets anything in her mouth! Roasting sweet potato as we speak...

Klerka · 07/06/2010 18:14

Imogen will get there - it's just their natural reaction to anything in her mouth. Holly stopped hers quite quickly - but then she is a little chomper!

We just got in a right mess! Holly ate quite a bit I think, but did spread the avocado everywhere as the sandwich didn't hold together so well. Will toast it next time maybe. I just shook the blanket from the floor and the leftover food from the tray out onto the grass in the garden. Do birds eat avocado? Probably shouldn't do that - don't want to encourage pests!

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 07/06/2010 18:17

Glad you all had good weekends and well done on your run Al. I don't think I could even walk 10km, let alone run it! You have done brilliantly!

Tried anna on some brocolli and carrot fingers this afternoon. Think she ate a little bit but most of it ended up mushed up on the floor i think! we are having a bacaon and avocado salad tonight so think i will give her a bit of avocado.

Had a great weekend. Spa was fab and so relaxing. had a lovely massage and just had lots of time to chill out, so was great. Then we had friends stay over sat night, including one of DH's best friends who has emigrated to Oz, but is back for a few weeks. was a good laugh and meant lots of people wanted to look after Anna, change her nappies, give her her bottles etc, so was even more rest for me!!

Anna has taken to rolling over in her cot so that she is wedged against the side and then gets all upset and starts to cry. Anyone else's LO's doing this?? is quite frustrating, but there doesn't seem to be anything we can do to prevent her from doing it! Grrrr!

Apart from that thought, she is doing so well. She is generally so happy and smiley and i just want to cuddle her all the time!

Hope your first day back went well Claire. Apparently my managers are considering my request for part timr working today. Fingers crossed...

Anyway, better go and make some dinner.

Claire236 · 07/06/2010 18:29

Thanks for all the good luck wishes. Leaving ds2 at nursery caused me a few tears but had an ok day other than that. ds2 is shattered having only had one 45 min sleep all day when he would normally have had 3 sleeps of an hour or so each.

Can't believe how grown up our lo's are getting. ds2 had his first taste of chocolate the other day when a friend gave him a milky bar button. Needless to say he loved it.

Ethelred - Fingers crossed you get your part-time hours agreed.

Al - well done on the run. You did really well

hendo77 · 07/06/2010 20:04

Claire - glad to hear it went well for you today.

Ethelred - Imogen does something similar, she sleeps on her tummy (since about 3/4 weeks old). As soon as she learnt to flip onto her back she did it and still does. Repeatedly often, and usually when we're trying to get her to sleep. Once on her back she's like a stranded beetle with arms and legs flailing and then cries to be turned back. It's getting a bit better for us now she's learnt to suck on a finger to settle, but tonight I had to flip her back over every 5 minutes for about 40 minutes and other times we've had to keep our hand on her back to stop her flipping until she's nearly asleep! Now she's able to roll back to her front, I'm hoping she'll sort herself out but imagine that is wishful thinking!!!

I'm with you on the wanting to cuddle her all the time! She's just started to really obviously put both arms out towards me when she wants picking up, usually with a big grin on her face which is lovely. Then however, she mostly wriggles to get to something else!!!

AgaJ · 07/06/2010 20:09

Ethelred my Liliana is doing the same! She's brilliant in rolling from back to belly n back n we love to watch her being so independent;) but she's doing that while asleep as well, banging on her cot, getting upset that she can change her position n at the same time waking herself up! She would probably sleep through the nite if not rolling. I tried to tuck blanket on both sides but she rolled over it too.
If it comes to sleeping I unfortunatelly taught my DD to fall asleep while sucking on the boob ( she's still breastfed) and now there is no other way of putting her to sleep! Help!!! How can I change it? She WILL NOT ever fall asleep on her own

Al - WOW well done! fair play to you!

anniebigpants · 07/06/2010 20:28

Hello ladies, just had quick read through to catch up.

Al-Hats off to you for managing 8k, and the time you completed the run in is certainly not to be sniffed at. This is the second year i havent done the Race for Life, id ran the last four before them-I run in memory of my lovely Mum and Dad, both of them i lost to cancer, my Mum in 2002 and my Dad in 2007

Claire-Glad your first day back to work went OK, hope DS2 sleeps well for you tonight after not having much sleep today. Im sure once he settles at nursery his sleeps will go back to hour long ones.

Ethelred-Glad you had good weekend at the Spa and catching up with friends.
Ellis does the same thing as Anna, gets wedged against the side of his cot and starts screaming, hes also started getting onto his knees, i often go in to find him fast asleep on his front with his bum in the air

Klerka-Im impressed your DD is dealing well with finger foods, DS will eat pureed foods absolutely no problems, but seems to choke on finger foods unless i put them in his net feeder. I was giving him watermelon at a friends BBQ at the weekend but he was just stuffing it in and trying to swallow it, then coughing and spluttering.

Hendo-Glad naps are improving, hopefully nightime sleep will improve soon too.

LaDiDaDi-my DS2 is so very different compered to DS1 when it come to sleep. DS1 was sleeping 7-7 with a dreamfeed at 11pm from 12 weeks, he dropped the dreamfeed at 7 months and reliably slept 7-7 with the very rare blip for teething, cold etc. He would nap like a dream during the day-often falling asleep mid play on his mat, in his chair etc. DS2 is another kettle of fish, up until a week ago he would only have his naps in his puschair, wouldnt even fall asleep in the car no matter how tired he was!
The past week he has taken to falling asleep in his cot watching his light show, i find him flat out on his front, usually head down, bum up!

Lee-Hope A sorts his sleep out for you! As for the sitting/rolling all babies are different and develop at different rates

Big waves to everyone else.

Ellis is a little monkey-he rolled and sort of commando crawled across to my little vases on my fireside and started rolling them around the floor and was most disgruntled when i stopped his little game. I dug out the fancy baby walker i had for DS1 which incidently he never ever managed even one step in, E is away in it getting into all sorts of mischief-i popped into the kitchen to put something in the bin and came back to see him with a mouthful of curtain he was pulling with him as he moved away from the window, one grin from him and i just melt thought

AlCrowley · 07/06/2010 20:34

Catherine has driven me crazy with the rolling today! She rolled from front to back once or twice but seems to have forgotten she can do it so for the past few days, she's rolled herself onto her tummy everytime we've had her playing on the floor and then she cries because she doesn't like it. I spend so much time flipping her back onto her back that Alex treis to copy me now and will go over and flip her back too! I have to watch him though as he's only 3 and sometimes doesn't realise that her arm is in the way.

He's really beginning to love her though. He keeps cuddling her and telling me how cute she is. She even goes to cuddle him back

She's definitely much more difficult than Alex ever was. She wants to be held all the time and it just feels like she's cried for most of today. I'm definitely more worried about aking her out than I ever was with him.

Got my first weaning related injury today. Had microwaved some carrot and brocolli puree to heat it, with the intention of leaving it to cool before dinnertime. I put a lid on the hot food and shook it to mix the flavours and it exploded!! I got red hot puree all over my right hand and have properly burnt myself. It really hurts.

On the plus side, I tried her with a steamed brocolli floret over the weekend and she loved it. Maybe it's a sign that I should actually try the BLW. Still a bit worried about the choking but reading the book now. Having to speed read it as my freind wants the book back. Going to have to buy my own copy I think.

Thanks for all the running congratulations. I know I should be proud of myself but I am still a little disappointed that I didn't manage to run the whole thing. More traiing needed for next time I think. There is an organised 5k every weekend in one of the local parks which should be a start.

madmissy · 07/06/2010 20:50

wow need to have a good catch up!

brodie still not rolling he gets to his side but thats it can back crawl as it were lol

sits up unaided now though

loves his food now and dropped a milk feed but keeping his milk intake up with milk in food and yoghurts which he loves!

what routines are we all in now?

getting him weighed tomorrow morning
