Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Oh, Klerka, DS had his 16 week jabs yesterday. The worst bit about it is that it is 3 seperate injections... I held it together for the first two, but really had to fight back the tears for the last one. DS was doing that awful crying where his mouth is open, but no sound is coming out I am so glad that was the last one for a while... DH is definitely taking him for the 12/13 month ones when he knows what is going on!!
He wasn't any worse with yesterdays jabs, a bit grumpy and sleepy like he was with the others, but didn't even get a temperature or anything and was pretty much back to normal by the evening (jabs were at 11.30am).
I even managed to go out to a meeting in our village and leave him with DH for a couple of hours in the evening Somehow I have managed to volunteer myself to be secretary and bookings clerk for the community centre for the village, not sure how that happened

We're off on a 3 hour drive today to stay with my grandad overnight, really looking forward to introducing DS to his great-grandad He is pretty old and not in the best of health, so I am also mindful that every visit could be the last

hendo77 · 14/04/2010 08:47

Klerka, for the first two sets of jabs they made Imogen sleepy which frankly was a brilliant for me overnight as she's usually a rubbish sleeper so I was actually looking forward a little to the 16 weeks ones, but apart from the crying when they actually did them she didn't react in the slightest at all, played and slept as normal.

Hope they go OK for you today...

whittywan · 14/04/2010 12:00

You may be onto something, Klerka. My DS is also unusually sleepy and grumpy the past 2 days. When he's awake he has period of bright happiness but soon becomes tired and grumpy. Biggest problem is that he fights sleep SO hard (always has done). Luckily he has finally gone down and is having a nap in his bouncy chair. Still hasn't had 16week jabs though because he had to have 2nd lot delayed (only had 12 week jabs at 15 weeks), but 1st 2 sets definitely made him more clingy and sleepy. Can't wait for the last lot to be done so that I can stop feeling like an evil bi-atch for a while.

It just breaks my heart to have to hold him down while they stick that BIG needle into him.

Klerka · 14/04/2010 18:16

Hi,
Been home now for a couple of hours and so far so good. The actual appointment was awful as expected - we were happily 'Row, row rowing' and she was laughing until the inevitable! She had a bf in the waiting room after and a little nap on the walk home - it was so lovely here this afternoon I let us in the back gate and I left her to snooze in the fresh air for half an hour.

DH is home now for the night and I can hear them talking over the monitor.

Thanks for your words of support, Claire, Kate and Hendo... at least we know all the immunisations are over for a while. . We'll see how tonight goes.

GoldenSnitch · 14/04/2010 21:53

Still waiting for Catherine's 3rd jab appointment. I hate, hate, hate taking her

Having a rubbosh day today. DS and Catherine have both been grotty since about 3pm. Was so glad when DH got home but he's been next to no help! Catherine's usually down for her nights sleep at 7.30 but keeps waking up and screaming. She's only just gone down again now!

Hoping she might sleep longer as she's had a late feed but am not holding my breath! I would kill someone for a full night's sleep right now

Just breastfed while sat in my car at the garage waiting for my tyre to be changed. The waiting room was full and it reduced the possibility of DS running round like a loon if he stayed in his car seat. Still, was in full view and no-one said a word or stared.

Found out this morning too that the wife of a friend is pregnant. Quite shocking as he's always been very anti-children. He hates them. Totally not interested in mine or any of our other friends children to the point of being rude. Was shocked at his wedding when he told me that he might adopt but would never be so selfish as to have babies of his own when there are so many children who need loving homes out there. That was a major U-turn for him on it's own. I had DS at this point and he made me feel awful.

Was a bit of an accident I think but I can't help smirking that he's in this position after being so sanctimonious. His wide is over the moon though so I'm pleased for her

He's one of those men who refer to people with children as "breeders".

Spoke to a friend today who's seen him and says he looks like he's in shock. I'm wondering what sort of a Dad he'll make too!!

We have a bit of sun here but it's cold outside.

We're having a day in. Really must get off the computer!

Claire236 · 15/04/2010 18:30

Lee36 - he's not been too bad actually considering what the dr said about how horrible rotavirus is. Was a relief to know something was wrong with him actually as was starting to feel a bit paranoid. Thanks for asking

GS - he sounds horrible. Poor baby. I used to work with someone who was really horrible about people who'd had children & I always wondered what would happen if his wife got pregnant by accident.

It's been lovely & sunny here today. Can almost feel summer coming. My Bon Jovi tickets arrived today. dh & I both love Bon Jovi so treated us to some really good tickets. Can't wait.

Hello all, not much to add.

Sunnier here now than it has been all day but we have still been out and about, went to the local Country Park for a walk and a play. "Country" as the sign on the car park says "when car park full please park at ASDA and walk" lol. It is nice though, a play area, lots of horses, a lake with two bird hides, woods, an organic farm and a cafe with big cakes .

Cancelled my gp appointment for after that as I couldn't be bothered to troop there with the dc, esp as dd was exhausted, will have to hope that I get one for tomorrow when I ring at 8am as otherwise I'll have no pills for the weekend .

1petshortofazoo · 15/04/2010 19:26

I've found the new thread
What a day! Ds1 has been fishing with dp since sunday, just got back today with chicken pox! I hope they are gone by tuesday for school lol
Ds2 had his last lot of injections today bless him he screamed the place down, 3 in 1 in is too much!

sparklycheerymummy · 15/04/2010 19:55

Good day yesterday, bad one today. a close friends mum died of cancer this morning.....all through her body and at the end it was in her brain. SHe leaves behind her a lovely family, son 2 daughters and many grandchildren... its just so sad i dont feel justified in moaning about dss constant whinging!

AmazingBouncingFerret · 15/04/2010 21:07

Oh dear sparkly sorry to hear that.

Ack 1pet, im dreading the day my two get chicken pox!

Snitch you never know he might end up doing a complete U-turn and being the most doting PFB type dad there ever was. The kid will do no wrong and will probably be spoilt rotten!

Elizabeth finally had her 2nd lot of injections today. She went in beaming at the nurse wondering what sort of fun was to be had and then bam needle in leg and her face dropped, second needle went in and she crumpled bless her!

sparklycheerymummy · 16/04/2010 11:21

the earlier they get chick pox the better before they are able to scratch and scar themselves!!! my dd had them at 9 months and was ok..... i used to put half tub of bicarb soda in bath..... an old lady in supermarket told me to and i try anything!!! it worked.... took all redness and soreness out of even the ones in her little bits!!!! better day today and ds slept 7pm till 6.30am with just 2 dummy plug ins!!! he has just had a 2 hour nap aswell.....just wish every day was the same but then we are so busy with dd sometimes ds has to fit round us and his routine goes out of window.

anyone any tips for getting them to drink water..... we have already discussed this i think but am trying not to go down the juice route yet!!!

Lovely sunny day here and dd is off out with her step bro....leaving me and ds to go for a walk. have already done some washing and tidying (house still a tip though!!)

just realised i am still watching dick and dom even though dd has now gone out!!!

sparklycheerymummy · 16/04/2010 21:22

I was told to give DS watered down apple juice when he got constipated at weaning. About 1 tablespoon in a few ounces of boiled, cool water.

It worked too.

PartialToACupOfMilo · 16/04/2010 22:49

Just heard Tess farting through the monitor !!

Klerka · 18/04/2010 10:44

Hi all,
1 pet - Hope your DS is better with his chicken pox?

DH has a son from a previous relationship who had suspected chicken pox for a few weeks whilst I was about 8 months pregnant. Having NOT had chicken pox myself before, poor DH couldn't go and see his son for fear of any chance of bringing it home. I must have some level of immunity to it as my sister had it when we were children. I guess we will find out one day!

All ok here since the jabs on Weds, although this morning DD has coughed up both feeds since 5am. Washing the second set of bed linen and my pjs now as I type. She doesn't have a cough per se just snuffly and when she coughs a little all the milk in various stages of digestion has come up. Poor lamb. She seems happy enough in herself though, I guess I will keep an eye on it. No idea if it's related to the jabs though, or, also I had the window open a bit last night and could smell a bonfire or the river boats so I closed it, it had been open for a couple of hours though.

GoldenSnitch · 18/04/2010 10:59

Klerka, the children of a friend of mine had chickenpox while I was pregnant with Catherine and my midwife organised a blood test to check my immunity as I had had it at least twice as a child so there was a possibility that my immunity was a bit rubbish.

Came back as immune and all was clear luckily.

Maybe you can ask your doctor to check if you are immune too? If you're not there is a vaccunation but you have to pay for it. DH had never had chicken pox so we paid about £70 to get him the immunised after DS was born as chicken pox as an adult can be very, very nasty.

Catherine's constantly chewing things at the moment and dribbling loads. Her poor little knuckles have gone red from where she's been munching on them! I've had to put some Bonjela on her gums twice now as she was obviously so uncomfortable

The dribblings quite funny though. She blows raspberries with this look on her face like she's telling me something really interesting. It's so cute

hendo77 · 18/04/2010 11:05

Hi everyone! Klerka and 1pet hope your little ones are feeling better now.

Loving the sunshine here, and the quiet skies! I hope no-one is stranded anywhere they don't want to be with the ash, but for me it's brilliant as it means my dh can't go away for the week with work. He was supposed to be going today and then booked onto a second flight tomorrow but BA have cancelled them all from london. He's very pleased too, especially with the lovely weather and is on full daddy duties letting me have a long lie in this morning (except obviously getting up for a half hour feed at 7.30). I feel very refreshed.

Hope the sun is shining for everyone else as well.
