I've been using that for the last couple of days, but it seems suddenly more painful to her I think tonight. I've given her Calprofen, bonjela and then calpol an hour and half later as well (after checking you definitely can give both and it's fine!!!). She happened to be a little bit sick after the calprofen which I'd given earlier in the hope it would kick in by the time I got to bed time, and so I think that didn't really get a chance to kick in. She's asleep now, so I'm hoping she'll sleep for a couple of hours at least so I can dinner and relax. Dh isn't back until tomorrow night, and I was almost in tears earlier as she was so obviously tired, but unable to settle and I just felt so sorry for her.

I'm just worrying that it isn't actually teething, just she isn't good at sleeping, and that when she teethes it's going to be a million times worse, or that I should be doing something else to help settle her. went to the library today and got out 4 books on sleep... not that I'm at all desperate!!!

sparklycheerymummy · 14/05/2010 20:51

anbesol is amazing for teething but dont let them use it then breast feed as you r nipples go numb!!! LOL

Claire236 · 14/05/2010 21:19

ds2 has been out of the pram bit & in the mid setting of his pushchair for about a month. Lay it flat it he falls asleep. It's currently rear facing & I've got no plans to turn it round at the moment.

Hoping for no 4am wake up tonight which is what he's done the last 2 nights. Refused to settle then drunk 5 ozs of milk both nights too. Wondered if he was thirsty more than hungry as he's still got a cough & a bit of a cold but I guess he must be hungry to have that much milk. Given him more food today but he's hardly drunk any milk so doubt it will make any difference to his sleep. We shall see. Got friends over tomorrow night & I'm drinking as dh has offered to get up in the morning with the boys & in the night if necessary. Will prob drink one glass of wine before I decide I'm tired but it's good to have a total night off. dh is even cooking so will have a dead lazy evening.

In a grump this evening, dp has gone out and both dc are asleep, I was going to express but I seem to have lost part of my breast pump, really need to get some in the freezer so feeling really and frustrated. Gah!

madmissy · 15/05/2010 16:56

Brodie is in the seat part of the bugaboo he has been for a while but he is 19lb + now

Anyone elses lo thats weaning really fussy with milk now?

sparklycheerymummy · 15/05/2010 20:23

no ds still loves his milk but only having 3 milk feeds now....morning, mid aft and bedtime!

but I am struggling to get him to drink water or juice!!!!

Claire236 · 15/05/2010 21:29

ds2 still having 6 bottles a day but is totally random with how much he drinks. Anywhere between 3 & 7 ozs is normal. I throw away so much formula.

I'm such a lightweight. Had friends over for BBQ & I've had a margarita & 2 glasses of wine & feel hammered. Never been much of a drinker mind you.

Well brodie has 7,11,2.45,6,10 and in the night too.

5-6oz each time but 7am he is fussy. Still wakes at 2-3 for milk but he has breakfast lunch and dinner too.

Today hehad 5oz at 7am so hoping he's starting to get that feed up again and eventually cut night one out.

Don't want to drop dream feed as he is stil guzzling that down.

sparklycheerymummy · 16/05/2010 10:48

think i am going to try get an extra bottle in ds or a bf if i can produce enough still.....feel like he should be having more milk but he goes from bf at 6am and breakfast at 8 ish......then doesnt want anything till lunchtime.... about 12 ish. so going to try giving him a feed with his lunch. he seems happy anyway and is certainly putting on weight and sleeping pretty well (well till 4am ish then we have a few plug ins till 6 am)..... he would take a feed at 4am but is eating so much during day that hv told me to try drop the night feed!

HE HAS NOW DISCOVERED HE CAN MOVE IN HIS WALKER AND PULL STUFF OVER....HAD THE PRAM oN TOP OF HIM AND WAS EATing my scarf which he had pulled off the fridge!!! when fridge was open he was in it pulling milk bottles out!!!! little so and so i think!!! cant believe i am already having to say "noooooo" on a regular basis!!!

madmissy · 16/05/2010 12:41

lol how cute!

well spoke to soon and brodie had 3oz of milk at 11.30am! 2-3 spoons of solids

hendo77 · 16/05/2010 20:24

Hope everyone had nice weekends. We had a lovely time with friends on Saturday and at a party today where Imogen got her first party bag!!!

Looking forward to starting blw in two weeks time now, especially reading that the milk feeds reduce eventually - although I know it won't be immediate. I've was talking to a friend today who suggested that the night feeds get worse before they get better when you first start weaning so preparing myself for that, but feel like the end of night feeds might be in sight. Ever optimistic anyway!!!

At least night feeds here seem to be settling into a bit of pattern - sometime between 11 and 12 and again between 3 and 4. I have been giving Calprofen before bedtime and sometimes calpol too if gums seem really bothersome and that seems to be helping her settle a bit. Fingers crossed I haven't just made them worse by typing that!!!

anniebigpants · 16/05/2010 20:59

Evening ladies, this thread is sooo busy now! Ive been away on my hols, just Monday to Friday, good ol Butlins at Skegness, not everyones cup of tea i know, but we have had a fab time. Its taken me AGES to catch up!

Sparkly-Big hugs to you, hope you.re feeling better, i think you sound like a fabulous Mum, give your DP(or not so (D)P) a huge kick up the backside and tell him to help you more!

LaDiDaDi-Re feeling broody- I would LOVE another DC, but at almost 40 , i feel that i should stop at 2, ive had 3 mc as well so dont want to push my luck. I dont want DS2 to grow up!

Re teething-they seem to be in more pain when the teeth are moving up towards the surface, as once the teeth cut through, everything seems to settle, speaking from experience. I found Bonjela, cooled teethers, a frozen wash cloth (yes really!) and Nurofen helped.

Thanks annie...up and down still but find myself getting more upset talking about it..... i know shoving it under carpet doesnt help but its all i can do for now. ds is being a good boy on the whole and its getting easier as he is able to play and amuse himself more. one good thing about having a 23lb 5 mont old is that i cant carry him around so he has to get used to being put down!!!!
Made a load more yummy food....courgettes, green beans, tonnes of fruit which i have left a bit lumpy! Am also giving him chunks of food to hold.... banana, pear, cooked pasta ( i know it has gluten in but so little goes in his mouth I am sure it cant hurt!!!)

He is keen to hold food and put it into his mouth himself but doesnt actually 'eat' much....the floor gets the majority!!! Will do what i am doing and when he is ready to actually 'eat' the food and not need mummy i am sure he will make it known!!!!! BLW to me is the same as finger food???? not sure about this while letting them choose what they eat bit.....i was brought up in an old fashioned household where you ate what you were given!!!! Though obviously if he doesnt like something he will again make it known and i wont give him it. He is just loving everything..... he is like mummy.....a piggy!!!!

bed for me...ds seems to think 5am is morning!!!!

LaDiDaDi · 17/05/2010 09:59

Pleased that you had fun in Skegness, annie. Still no hols booked here and the volcanic ash stuff is not helping dp with his flying phobia!

I had a bit of a rough weekend, my gran was rushed into hospital from her nursing home, pneumonia but it looks like she has an underlying lung cancer. She is already has v. severe dementia. My parents are on hols and mum and me are only children so I've been visiting, she looked better yesterday than on Saturday and I'm going back this afternoon although she has no awareness that anyone is there tbh, didn't open her eyes for me on Sat or Sun. It's very sad but her dementia means that in reality we lost her a long time ago.

On top of that ds had me awake and looking at the clock at 1, 3, 5 , 6 and 7 overnight. Just had another doze with him now that dd is at nursery which has helped me feel better as I really snapped at poor little dd this mornong just through sheer tiredness.

Loosing track of how many weeks ds is, I think he's 21 weeks today. Will be starting blw at 26 weeks, I would do it sooner I think if I had some guarantee that he would sleep better. Can't bear the thought of rubbish sleeping at night and more mess to clear up in the day!

Sorry to hear about your Gran LaDiDaDi. My one remaining Grandparent has dementia too. It's awful that they're not there anymore isn't it Hope she recovers enough to go back to the nursing home soon.

Sparkly and Lee, We've worked very hard to male sure DS isn't fussy too and so the eating what you're given because there isn't anything else thing. It's worked really well with Alex and he will eat pretty much anything now. In fact some of his favourites are smoked salmon and broccoli Hoping Catherine will be the same.

Just got Catherine weighed. She's 5 months exactly today and is 11lbs 13ozs

Spoke to HV about the fact that Catherine is back to feeding every 2-3 hours, doesn't really ever nap and our nights have been a bit hit and miss with feeds too (some nights it's midnight and 5am, some nights it;s 8, 9, 10, 11pm, 3 and 5am!!) and she suggested I start weaning Catherine. I thought she'd suggest formula first but she suggested baby rice. I was thinking the same so I'd picked up some baby rice at the weekend so now I'm just waiting for her to wake up (she fell asleep in the car on the way home and I've managed to transfer her to bed) and we'll try her first food. Quite excited

hendo77 · 17/05/2010 14:07

LaDiDaDi - sorry to hear about your Gran.

Annie - glad yo had a lovely holiday.

GS - well done on Catherine's weight and I hope the baby rice helps with the sleeping.

Lee - thanks re the sleeping. She's such a lovely, happy, smiley girl the rest of the time I kind of forget about it during the day and I am very lucky in that I have a wonderful dh who will always get up to help if she won't settle again after a feed or play with her on the days she wakes up at 5 am! re the blw - she will be 6 months on 8th June but we are going away for the week before this to a cottage for the week so thought we would start it then so we can both be there. We're going to eat our tea at 5.30 pm each night which we can't usually do as dh doesn't get home until later but we're looking forward to it!!!

When we were litle my parents wouldn't let us have pudding or anything else until we had eaten our dinner and in particular vegetables. The threat being we would have it for breakfast if we didn't eat it then. Iwill always remember my brother's face when my parents made him eat 3 spoonfuls of his cold dinner from the night before, before being allowed his breakfast!!! To this day if you put a plate of food in front of me I eat it in portions - the thing I like the least first, one section at a time until I eat the bit I like the most last. Everyone else thinks this is hilarious!!!!

GoldenSnitch · 17/05/2010 14:58

First taste went really well. She had a chunk of Apple to gnaw on while I made up some baby rice with some EBM (only about a teaspoon full) and then she ate it all with no problems!

Tongue thrust has definitely gone and she's been happy and giggly ever since. I think it was a hit

Claire236 · 17/05/2010 15:32

LaDiDaDi - sorry about your gran. Mine is in a home as she has Alzheimers & she's like a different person from the one I knew growing up.

GS - glad the rice was a hit. She'll be eating 3 course meals before you know it.

I've just expanded ds2 menu to include pasta & baby porridge (contains milk & gluten) Going shopping tomorrow to get the freezer refilled but this time with meals including meat, fish, pasta, cheese etc for when I go back to work. He'll be 6 months by the time the current lot of fruit & veg are done so ready for proper meals. The plan being that once the next freezer batch is done he'll be able to eat the normal nursery menu. Not sure if I sound obsessed or stupidly organised about the whole food thing but I need to get things ready for going back to work now.

My mum used to frequently make 4 seperate meals when me & my sister were little & I'm not doing that. I still give ds1 things he says he doesn't like as his tastes change quite frequently. Our rule is he has to try everything on his plate & can then leave anything he says he doesn't like but he doesn't get anything else. Obv I make sure he has enough food I know he likes to ensure he's not going hungry. Just realized that sounded a bit like I give him a plate full I know he won't eat then refuse to let him have anything else. He does still get pudding however as my mum was a big one for pudding & sweets being treats which is part of the reason I think I've got no willpower whatsoever when he comes to sweet stuff.

Hendo77 - I still eat the thing I like best last. Thought I was the only one who hadn't grown out of it.

sparklycheerymummy · 17/05/2010 18:05

ha ha Hendo I am the same!!! my dd who is 8 is a star with food and a pleasure ot take out.....she is making me pasta and sauce tonight on her own....with me stood very close by!!

hendo77 · 17/05/2010 19:22

Glad it isn't just me then! I've also said I'm not going to offer pudding as a 'treat' or use food for rewards and all that as I am very overweight and would like her to have a healthier relationship with food than me. However,Imogen is my first child and I am very, very wary of falling into that trap of saying things like 'oh I would never bribe my child' when I probably quite clearly will!!!

sparklycheerymummy · 17/05/2010 20:36

i work with children on the autistic spectrum who have serious food issues and our key point is to NEVER use food as a bribe as they get to the point where they will only do something for a particular food reward......so it sort of sticks with me!!!! however ds is having fruit for pudding with most meals unless he has missed a milk feed and he has a few ounces of milk instead!!!

HOwever i have been known with dd to grapple open a bag of quavers whilst doing the supermarket shop just to shut her up!!!!
Ds is so big i am being a bit more careful!!!

ds lapped up veg with a homemade tomato soup and fruit with baby rice for tea!!!! He played with some pear while i fed him but it was too slippy and ended up flying out of his hand....in the end it was covered in fluff from the carpet so i gave up!!!

anniebigpants · 17/05/2010 21:06

I bought one of those net things today and DS loved eating cold melon out of it, he sat for ages chomping on his melon while i got some washing up done.

Snitch-Glad the baby rice was a hit!

LaDiDaDi-Sorry to hear about your Gran, very sad.
