Just ordered one for Catherine

Taking things slowly with her. DS got really nasty constipation when I weaned him and I will never forget watching him scream as he laid on his changing mat trying to pass his first solids poo Poor thing was in agony. Desperate not to do that to Catherine too.

Not such a bad night last night, ds woke at 4am, 6am and then 7am. It's the 6am that's the pain as he's so wide awake. The curtains in our bedroom are hopeless, despite so-called blackout lining, so he seems to think that it's morning when in my house it's definitely not! Also dd would be a wreck if she got up at that time.

Lee - my husband is one of 4 boys and he does the same .

With the socialising - if you have swimming classes nearby they might still have babies of all ages, our classes range from about 2 months to 1 year in age. Also do you have a surestart centre near you? Ours do rhyme time, and drop in coffee mornings and again there are parents with babies of all ages. I also met some mums with babies of similar ages in my area at a weaning session (as your HV maybe about this?). I think they are run once a month now in most areas... Also, don't know if you have any NCT stuff near you, but our ones organise lots of coffee mornings to meet other people in your area. if you're even in south london then I'll go socialising with you!!!

LaDiDaDi - we had the same thing with a so-called blackout blind under the curtains. In the end we have taped it to the window frame to make it block out more light. At my parents house where they have a cot for Imogen we've just covered the windows with foil (classy I know!) and then closed the curtains over so you can't see it from the inside!!! If you hang the foil down in long strips you can just lift the tape off the bottom and sort of fold it up if you want to open the windows or let light in during the day. It did take two of us to do it, but it was very effective!

GoldenSnitch · 18/05/2010 10:29

Lee, I think it's a case of trying it and see. You can't really tell until you try it.

I'm one of 4 and I leave my favourites till last. I do eat quick though

hendo77 · 18/05/2010 15:47

Put our highchair up earlier and sat Imogen in it while I had lunch with a friend. She seemed quite comfortable and happy in it so that was good! Not that you all needed to know that, but quite exciting for me!!!

LaDiDaDi · 18/05/2010 16:13

ds had his final (very overdue) imms this morning then I've been to a lovely book group this afternoon and then visited my gran who is unchanged. Ds is not happy after his imms .

LaDiDaDi - sorry too to hear about your Gran. Hope your DS is feeling a bit better now after his injections.

My Mum is popping round tomorrow and she has a highchair for us. Not sure what brand/type etc. but like you hendo I am very excited to see DD sat in it! She is 23 weeks tomorrow - just about to read up on weaning... not sure yet how the reducing breastmilk works... I have been very aware the last few weeks though that I don't let her suckle on me for comfort which is easy to do accidently. Even though she does settle herself to sleep for naps.

Hope everyone else is well.

BexJ78 · 18/05/2010 22:23

LaDiDaDi- sorry to haer about your Gran.

All fine here apart from me having an awful cold. started off with sore throat and has now morphed into a head cold. Lovely.

Taking A to docs tomorrow to see if they can give her some better cream for her eczema. The one she has been using is making no difference, in fact, if anything it's getting worse.

How do you all manage with you LO's in the bath? Anna now loves to play about but as she can't sit up yet and she is very wriggly i have to hold her under her arm pits all the time. She gets very slippy and am worried about her getting her face in the water.

Klerka · 19/05/2010 06:55

Morning Bex,
Sorry you're poorly...

DD has loved the bath from day one and kicked and splashed water on her face which doesn't bother her at all. She did go through a phase of trying to roll over in the bath - which freaked me out so I kept hold of the shoulder that was dipping under until she got bored of trying I think. Now she often tries to suck her thumb by turning her head and gets a face full - again it doesn't bother her at all - I can see her eyes full of water so calmly wipe them - I just watch her like a hawk! If your LO doesn't like the water on her face I've seen the bath seats, not sure how much they are but that could give you an option. It's back breaking otherwise isn't it?!

Up nice and early here. It's becoming a habit for DD to wake at about 5am for the day - but she'll be tired by 7.30 and go back to bed for 2 hours! I think I will today too. However, I think I need to work on 'morning' being about 6am at least... DH didn't get home and to bed until 3.30am - talk about ships that pass in the night.

GoldenSnitch · 19/05/2010 07:30

Catherine adores the bath. She goes in with Alex most nights and loves to watching him splashing. Usually, either DH or I get in too so we can hold her (much more comfortable than leaning over the side to hold her) but now she's a bit bigger, we can use DS's old bath seat too.

We hadn't been using it before as you can only have a small amount of water in with it and that wasn't enough to bath Alex in but now she's taller, she's higher up the seat so we can put more water in and I hold her leg to stop her floating out if she lifts her bum.

The seat was fab when we had DS alone though. Just right for holding him safely in the bath and saving our backs. We had this one

Catherine woke at 11.45, 4am and 5am before we all got up at 7am. Very of all of you who can go back to bed when baby sleeps. DS needs taking out else he gets a bit stir crazy after a while. Wednesdays is always our busiest day too!! Toddler Group this morning and his swimming lesson this afternoon and I've given up coke so as I don't drink tea or coffee I've got no way of getting any caffiene. Ah well, at least if we're out, he'll be busy and I won't spend all day snapping at him for being bored and naughty at home.

Hope everyone is doing well...

madmissy · 19/05/2010 07:37

Morning!!
Gosh I keep falling behind!
Had nursery nurse pop in yesterday (shes fantastic, loads of advice on weaning and routines!) anyway been worrying over nothing with re to milk intake.
He is over 20oz with the 3 solids a day so thats great!

Anyway she suggested not doing night feed if he wakes ( he has slept through a few times) as he is taking plenty of grub and milk in day so last night when he woke I gave him dummy and he settled.

So at 6 (up at 5.15am here too grr) he had 4oz... better than the normal 2! and then made that up to 6oz with the extra milk in his porridge.

So lets hope thats the start of good things!

I got a bit roped into the Bugaboo thread last night first time that I have done that on mn in long time lol.

I have dd1's school friend coming after school today which not looking forward to but they are both excited and her mum has been so ill with pg that I wanted to give her a break!

My best mate is bringing her baby girl over today too and sorting my roots out yay!

GoldenSnitch · 19/05/2010 07:47

Was that the 'I hate bugaboos' one madmissy?

I thought of you when I saw that. Did it get heated?

Claire236 · 19/05/2010 07:59

How can anyone hate Bugaboos (apart from the price) A friend of mine's got one & I think it's fantastic. Knowing I'm not having anymore children I couldn't justify spending that sort of money unfortunately.

I'm getting ds2 a bathseat now he's supporting himself more. He had one of those bath support things that they lay in but I hardly used it as it was a total pita. Giving it to my sister but have warned her I found it annoying. ds2 has been dunked several times but just sort of blinks at me in confusion.

ds2 is back to sleeping through the last 3 nights. Hopefully that's us back to normal now.

Bex - hope you're feeling better.

LaDiDaDi - hope your ds has recovered from his jabs

hendo77 · 19/05/2010 08:00

LaDiDaDi - hope ds had a good night in the end after his immunisations.

I probably shouldn't tempt fate by typing this, but our nights are definitely improving. We've only been up for feeding twice each night and she is going straight back to sleep. Occaisionally it still takes a while to settle her originally at bedtime and occaisionally she'll wake and whinge a bit shortly after but there isn't screaming any more and she can usually be settled relatively quickly. Last night we had betime at 7.30/8 (later than usual for various reasons) then feeds at 1.30 and 5.30. I did think at 5.30 she wouldn't go back to sleep but I just left her and she did. I hope it's a sign of things to come and that it's just as she's a bit older now and more active during the day maybe?

Baths - I get in the bath with Imogen and dh then takes her off and gets her ready for bed whilst I have my shower and wash my hair afterwards when he is here. When he isn't either we don't have a bath (!) or I use that seat, although Imogen constantly tries to sit up in it now so last time she almost wriggled out of it. A friend gave us a bath swivel chair thing (like this so going to try that next time. As she's always stuffing stuff in her mouth, she often ends up with her face in the water at some point but doesn't seem bothered as long as she's got her toy in her mouth!!!!

GoldenSnitch · 19/05/2010 08:13

We've got that swivel seat too hendo, but in the old style colours. It is good but it's a PITA to clean as there are so many hidden bits.

I have cleaned it though and we'll be using it for Catherine once she's stable sitting up by herself. I wouldn't use it while they're wobbly as it is quite hard and I wouldn't want her hurting anything delicate if she slipped!!

I have been considering replacing it with one of these just to make cleaning a bit easier.

GoldenSnitch · 19/05/2010 08:26

Catherine just rolled for the first time!!!

hendo77 · 19/05/2010 08:50

Yay for rolling! Can catherine come and teach Imogen how to go from back to front please...

LaDiDaDi · 19/05/2010 09:28

Thanks for all of your kind wishes for my Gran, she is just the same really.

Ds did settle down after his imms but he still feeds 2hourly overnight, he woke at 2am and 4 am and then 6am when he was wide awake but I did manage to get him off to sleep again but unfortubately then we slept in until 8.20 (dd needs to be at nursery for 9), so it was a bit of a rush though the extra time in bed was nice. Usually I'm awake with dp leaving for work at 7.45 but he goes in later on Weds and Thurs and I hadn't set an alarm.

I get in the bath with ds and dd pretty much every night, sometimes it's fine othertimes I get a bit irritated by the whole thing tbh.

No rolling or teeth here yet.

Going to try to get dd some new shoes this pm, she got her last ones in the Easter hols and yesterday had a bleeding heel where they have been rubbing . I've sent herto nursery in her crocs and I'm going to try a different shoe shop for her as I'm not convinced that the other ones ever really fit her.

BexJ78 · 19/05/2010 11:47

Hi all, this thread's been busy this morning!!

When i say i'm worried about her getting her face in the water, i mean in terms of her not being able to breathe etc. She's not bothered about the water going on her, or splashing her, i think i worry more about her swallowing the water and drowning (melodramatic mother)!!

When we were in the bath last night she somehow got a little bit in her mouth and seemed to be struggling for breath, so i had to take her out and slap her on the back frantically. it probably wasn't that, but i guess i panicked!! i will be glad when she can sit up and at least it should be a bit better. I do take her in the bath with me but the practicalities of it (DH usually at work-i have to lift her in and out whilst i'm still in bath) mean that most times mean it's easier for me to bathe her on her own.

hendo77 · 19/05/2010 14:00

Bex - I also find it really difficult to bath her by myself. Once I put her her chair in the bath, then got in, then took her out of the chair to play with her and wash her. I didn't factor in though that when I got in the bath the water would come up really high and nearly wash her off her chair!!! I don't think you're being melodramatic at all to be honest - I simply don't bother to bath her with dh isn't there most of the time. I have found that doing the swimming lessons with her I have seen her get a proper mouthful of water and she either coughs it back up or spits it out like a fountain so I think that has stopped me worrying slightly with the bath...

Can't believe how busy this thread is lately.

ds2 sort of rolls around rather than going from front to back. Keeps him amused though.

GS - well done Catherine

My Next order arrived today which I was dead excited about until I realized there was hardly anything for me in it. Oh well. At least the boys are ready for summer now
