Thought I'd start a Post-Natal thread as there are so many of us now sorry about the uninspired name.
Well I am slowly realising the sleepless nights thing is no myth - VERY tired!

Dwayne my scar is 6 days old, but cannot really compare as I declined solubles as my body does not like them (no option for internal ones obviously)
I have a prolene continuous that stays in 7 days - had big argument with MW who insisted it came out yesterday as she knew better than the surgeon...
She ploughed through notes looking for 'evidence', so I then politely (not) said that I had been nursing 21 years, have had 4 encounters with disolvables, trusted the Surgeon who put the ruddy thing in more than her, and was refusing her to touch it, and she was gonna have a complaint if she pushed the issue any further. She was a sister and had a student with her, so it didn't go down too well.
Not sure what to suggest except keep an eye on it, any raise in temperature, oozing, pain, swelling or heat then get it checked asap.

thedollshouse · 27/04/2010 20:39

Dwayne. My scar is 7 days old. I can't bring myself to look at it but it does feel very sore, dh said that it looks quite red. I think my underwear is aggravating it but it is difficult to find pants that fit properly at the moment. When I had my first c-section it only really felt sore for the first 4 or 5 days but I suppose it is to be expected that the second one will take longer to heal.

I am wearing my Mat knickers from last baby - tuck in nicely under the boobies so do not aggravate scar. Not sexy, but do the job. Did not wear them when PG this time as my normal ones were still comfy.
HelenWombat - do you swaddle? Billie is only settling swaddled at the moment. Just ordered a couple of swaddle pods as DH cannot get it right... thinking middle name might be houdini.

lineky · 28/04/2010 10:41

Helenwombat we have found white noise works - either hoover or we are leaving the radio on in room tuned out so just fuzz - has to be surprisongly loud though - I have combined this with some use of a soother when she is just so wound up she wont stop crying.
We had a much better night last night although she still takes an age to go down. She is taking the night time bottle well but it doesn't seem to make her sleepy, rather the opposite. I am finding expressing quite time consuming, a electric pump may be on the agenda!
I can't decide if swaddling works or not - some nights she seems to respond on others she works herself into a frenzy trying to break free. Rather entertaining though as she sounds like the incredible hulk

Bettymum · 28/04/2010 10:45

at the mini-hulk and houdini. Alexander is doing pretty well at night, although he woke up at 3.30 this morning absolutely howling which woke DD up, so she came and sat with me in his room with her teddy and a muslin while I fed him, and then I tucked her back up, tucked Alexander back up, and crawled back into bed myself. It was quite nice to have the company since DH snores through anything.

nicnacinoonoo · 28/04/2010 10:53

my scar had some red patches but wasnt sore after a week. its been nearly 4 weeks now and is completely healed. i didnt have stitches that you could see though they were done from the inside somehow so dont know if that makes a difference. i had the same problem with knickers rubbing against it but all is fine now.

Kacie is starting to stay awake a lot more now too. she seems really fussy sometimes too, making grunting and moaning noises and wriggling about none stop. she does a kind of leg kick with one leg that looks like she's stamping her foot when she's fussing, it looks really funny. bless.

stinkypinky · 28/04/2010 13:01

Anyone been very oedematous? I was so swollen right up to my underarms, plus my entire arms which were soo painful. I weighed myself on Sat, and today weigh over half a stone less. Pretty chuffed as I am still swollen, and also have Daisy and Buttercup ((boobs) and their increased size to factor in. At present only 7lb over pre-birth weight

Day 7 and I am feeling pretty fab - still a touch of SPD, but this is improving daily. Getting stitch out today, so delighted about that as the 'beads' securing it would make very effective instruments of torture.

rumpleteaser · 28/04/2010 17:29

Hey everyone...
I had a prolene stitch thing too, I never saw one before and was freaked out by it. It's out now, we're on day 11, scar healing nicely but sore still and I don't think I'm resting as much as I should be.

As for Valentin, how often is an 11-day old baby supposed to poo? Midwife and health visitor assure me that 2 poos in 4 days and a lot of red faced straining/pushing/crying and no sleep is normal... is it?

I was sad as breastfeeding didn't work out for us at all, they tried to help at the hospital but everyone who intervened told me different things, and baby and me were just so stressed by it all and he was constantly hungry. So now he's a well fed bottle baby who doesn't like pushing out poos

I have a new, still in box Tommee Tippee closer to nature breast pump if anyone wants it?!

i think that there are actually more pros than cons to having a dummy. ds had one which i felt guilty about at first but now i have no idea why i felt that way, as it helped soothe him. they are much easier to get rid of than a thumb. i was a thumb sucker as a child and i have scars on my thumbs from where my teeth rubbed + dh reckons i still do it in my sleep occasionally!
we got rid of ds's dummy just before he was 2, so he hadnt learnt to ask for it yet which i think makes it easier. it was a lot easier than i expected and as long as you get rid of them early enough they are not going to affect your baby's teeth or speech.
the sleep section on here goes into the pros and cons of them, and also other ways to try and help your baby sleep.

HALLO! Just jumping on here to say hi, just posted my birth story on our old thread and I'm happy to report a baby girl that we named Erin finally arrived Monday at 7pm, 7lb 7oz.

AdelaideJo · 29/04/2010 19:47

Rumpleteaser I wasn't able to breastfeed my DS, and when we began to bottle feed him he became constipated and visibly uncomfortable. We were using the brand SMA. We swopped to Aptimil and he started to poo more regularly.

pillia78 · 29/04/2010 19:52

Hello all, been meaning to join this thread for a few days but keep getting interrupted! Elliot Alexander was born last Thursday after 45 minutes of contractions and I was able to get into the birthing pool which was brilliant. He weighed 7lbs 15oz. Struggling to feed him as he has a tongue tie and can't latch on easily and when he does it hurts like hell, he went down to 7lbs 1oz in 2 days! He was getting frustrated too so now I am expressing, really sad not to be totally breastfeeding but at least he is getting breast milk. Good to see you all on here!

rumpleteaser · 29/04/2010 20:26

adelaide we're already on aptamil, I keep trying to give him drinks of water as well, fingers crossed.

I've had a horrid migrainey headache for 3 days now [feeling sorry for myself emoticon] think I will see doc, bit nervous though as I am hoping to fly back to Bulgaria before 6 week check and he will grumble at me.

Mistymoo · 30/04/2010 16:34

Hi All

Just thought I'd drop in and say Hi. I had my ds on Tues, 27th at 2.11pm. Everything went well and am glad to be home.

I haven't read much on this thread so will have to try and catch up at some point.

thedollshouse · 30/04/2010 16:41

Rumpleteaser Fwiw we use Cow&Gate and both my boys have always been big on pooing. Have already changed about 5 or 6 dirty nappies today.

We were signed off from the midwife today, ds2 has gained a few ounces so it looks like we are on the right track.

I know this is completely daft but I was feeling quite upset today because we haven't received many birth congratulations cards. I feel that because ds2 is my second child that some family members just can't be bothered. I was getting myself quite worked about it earlier and have decided that if people can't even be bothered to acknowledge his birth then I shall not be inviting them to his thanksgiving blessing. I'm probably being hormonal and unreasonable but Rory is just as special to me as ds1 and I don't think it is too much to expect for his aunts and uncles to stick a card in the post acknowledging his safe arrival. I have loads of great nieces and nephews and I have always made a point of visiting them when they are born, not out of duty but because I have wanted to see them. My mum said yesterday that that one of my sisters had bought Rory a 0-3 month outfit and would post it at some point as she wouldn't be seeing him. I think it is sad that my own sister can't be bothered to drive 60 miles down the motorway to see her nephew.

Hi everyone, It's hard this baby malarky is it not?
dollshouse I am always surprised by people, a lot of my oldest closest friends have not even phoned or texted me since the initial congratulations message post birth yet 'newer' friends and people I dont know that well have been so lovely with cards and messages. I felt let down by a few friends when I had my daughetr and its the same people....I dunno.....Its sad though.
I have had a mostly crap week with mastitus that has seen me at the hospital twice ( Good old NHS24!- love em) I have felt so ill and low I cant believe it, Finally feeling more like myself and positive yesterday and today, breastfeeding has been hard and pinful though and so I have giving formula for some feeds while I pump, I have managed to feed Romy for the most part though and she seems quite happy so I am going to persevere but plan to seek advice from a breastfeeding counseller to make sure I have got it right to avoind any re infection.
I feel a bit sad as this week has not been joyful! My DD1 has been at MIL's having a ball but I miss her so much and we have not had anyone round as I look like Freddy Crueger......
Off to do some on line shopping to cheer myself up, what recession?!!
Take care everyone
x

helenwonbat Hazel had the samw when she hit 3 weeks. HV said it is common in babies that stage and does go on for 10weeks usually
We started using Infacol which has helped massivley, although it is most effective after 3 or 4 days so you have to stick with it. We also found that burping them is harder than you think! I stick it out longer now and am more 'heavy handed' with my back pats (god that sounds terrible but you know what I mean - I hope
