Thought I'd start a Post-Natal thread as there are so many of us now sorry about the uninspired name.
Well I am slowly realising the sleepless nights thing is no myth - VERY tired!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
PrincessTweetz · 26/09/2010 08:25

sleepywombat deffo get yourselves at least another 1 in, I bought Makenzi-Shei theup to date comforter once they had stopped selling the one she has, and it's slightly different, she hates it!!
I have 2 very poorly children this end, and a sulking man to top it all off!! Poor thing was kept awake all night by me trying to keep Jude comfy and settled..I'm so inconsiderate, of course I should have brought Jude downstairs and slept on the sofa lol.

harverina · 26/09/2010 16:53

sleepywomat I forget how many weeks noah is? If he is near the 26 week mark would you consider baby led weaning? You could do it at his pace then? We are giving it a go. Fed eilidh porridge this morning so suppose we are mainly doing baby led with some spoon feeding. We have been trying to let eilidh feed herself the loaded spoons.
On our way out for dinner for my dh's birthday. Going for an italian. Can't wait, i'm starving!

Zeeky · 27/09/2010 02:39

Well we started George on baby rice today despite me saying that I wanted to wait until next week when back from hols. The night waking is just getting ridiculous. He's also been soaking his nappies at night - wet vest, sleepsuit & sleeping bag. Have tried various nappies of different makes & sizes & still happens, so I think it is because he is having all these extra feeds but not absorbing as much milk hence the hunger. Do you think that could be it? So we decided to start the baby rice. He's just over 21weeks. He wasn't overly impressed with it, just pushing it out with his Tongue. Whereas I remember DS1 guzzling it at 19weeks. Oh well, at least we've made a start. So went to boots to get some Plum Baby purée pouches to take to Eurodisney with us. This seems like an easier option than bringing the baby rice, expressing milk etc while there or trying to transport any homemade purees.

So far no difference tonight as still woke at 10pm and now again at 2.15. Prob be up again at about 5 If previous nights are anything to go by :(

Zeeky · 27/09/2010 02:48

haverina hope you enjoyed your night out together.

Sleepywombat i'm with you on the contraception front! Breastfeeding is proving a very successful deterrant to any form of bedroom action at the moment - I'm so knackered with all the night feeds & dh struggles to find the leaky boobs at all erotic at the moment Blush. Much as I feel guilty for feeling ths way, I'll be glad to wind the bf'ing down now & start to get my body back, so hoping that George will start taking a bottle soon.

Last was baaaaad. He fed for 45mins until 3 & was then wide awake. Put him down in his cot where he proceeded to thrash around, screech & grizzle intermittently until 4.30! Went in to him then when crying got louder & thought I'd better check nappy in case it had leaked again & it was a great big pooey one! So changed him & put him down thinking he should settle now, but instead he grizzled until 5.30 when I could stand it no longer & went to feed him. He sucked for about 5min but didn't seem particularly hungry. Put him down again but then he kept screaming. Tried winding him again in case he had another burp but nothing & eventually fell asleep on my shoulder. Crawled back into bed at 6.30 having been awake since 2.15 & then DH's alarm clock goes off & he starts all his usual crashing around getting ready for work. Then at 7 George woke up again & my alarm went off to get DS up for school! I am totally buggered up! He's now feeding & will hopefully go for a decent nap now so that I can get some sleep too before we have to collect DS1 at 11.45.

Didn't seem to be hunger last night. Maybe the baby rice gave him indigestion???

nicnacinoonoo · 27/09/2010 15:47

poor you zeeky thats sounds awful hope you get some better sleep tonight. could it be his teeth?

Zeeky · 27/09/2010 18:12

Nicnac it could well be his teeth. He's been miserable as sin today - desperately tired but refusing to sleep, & when finally dozes off wakes up screaming 20mins later - very unlike him. This afternoon he has got a runny nose so maybe it's a cold or his teeth or both! Praying for a better night tonight as totally exhausted.

harverina · 27/09/2010 18:17

Oh zeeky, I hope you managed to get some sleep while George napped today. Your night sounds awful.

Baby rice can cause constipation my cousins baby suffered with it), did he seem as if he was in pain?

sleepywombat maybe Noah isn't wuite ready for solids? I'm not really sure about it all but the Gill Rapley book is good - she says that baby's will pick up food and put it to their mouths when they are ready. Eilidh has been trying to take food off my plate for a while but I didnt have the guts to let her try it before now!

Today Eilidh had porridge and melon for breakfast, melon, and potato patty's for lunch. For tea she is having asparagus spears, more melon and some brocolli florets. Going to stick with the fruit and veg for a few days then start introducing other foods.

Had a lovely dinner out last night, thanks.

sleepywombat I love swimming. I used to go every day. Eilidh has been twice and really loved it. I'm still not allowed to go as my c-section wound is still open Sad. Its getting better so hope it wont be long till its finally closed.

Hope you are all well. Its a holiday weekend here, so had my DH with me today which has been lovely.

Zeeky · 28/09/2010 09:09

A much better night last night. He went to bed at 7.30, woke at 12.15 and again at 6. He went straight back to sleep after both feeds & I had to wake him at 8.30 to get DS1 to school! I'm hoping this will continue and that it wasn't just because he was so tired from the night before! I didn't sleep great myself as I think I was overtired & kept half listening out for him! But feel a lot better today.

sleepywombat DS1 had croup once. There's nothing you can give for it just the usual things like elevating the cot, putting him in a steamy room. It sounds so horrible doesn't it?

PrincessTweetz · 28/09/2010 19:55

So I'm meant to be doing the cleaning after dinner, both my babies are in bed, their cold's seem to be getting better now, but dd 's voice is getting a bit husky bless her, and I found myself thinking of all you lovely mummies...who might be doing exactly the same as me, who might not be as lucky (!!), and be trying to calm a screaming baby, and who was even luckier and might be settling down to tv with a cuppa...and I thought how lovely all you are on this particular thread. I personally don't read other mumsnet threads any more, and it's the same for me on a bride forum I'm on too, as it can get quite bitchy/competetive which in turn leaves me feeling a bit crappy in one way or another.
Whenever any of us has had questions or doubts, there's always real support there, or answers or opinions without the horribleness, or the How-On-Earth-Can-You-Possibly-Even-Think-About-Doing-That!! sarcasm, so I for one am very grateful for you lot. Smile Even if there has been a difference in opinions, there's been no nastiness towards any of us. I'm glad that I can talk about all the lovely and wonderful things my Jude gets up to, without sounding like a My-Baby-Is-Better-Than-Your-Baby, and hearing about all the lovely and wonderful things your babies get up to without feeling that from you as well. Right..I must get back to the kitchen, cuz when DP gets back from his walk (!!), he'ws promised me a cuppa...although think I'll be more inclined to take a Beechams drink!! ;)
Harverina.your wound sounds terrible, poor you that you still have to contend with that this far along,I never realised c sections could be this horrible xxx

PrincessTweetz · 28/09/2010 19:59

OOOh, also I took some inspiration from you Harverina. and gave Jude some steamed brocolli florets, and steamed cauliflower florets, and some steamed yellow pepper yeasterday, what I'd taken from before dishing up our dinners, and today let him munch on a banana..he loved it, although made a few funny faces when he forgot he would be swallowing a few lumps..never had the confidence to give whole proper food with dd a few years back..thank you xx

nicnacinoonoo · 29/09/2010 08:30

aw princess that's lovely, i feel the same this thread has been fab. it's a nice outlet on here to be able to talk about our babies none stop with people who are going through similar so we dont have to bug people in real life too much.

Bettymum · 29/09/2010 08:32

Lovely posts Princess :)
We are excited this morning as I'm taking DD and DS on Ryanair (woo hoo) to Italy to see my sister, her DH and their three DDs. They are all looking forward to seeing their cousins apparently. So, setting off for Stansted in about half an hour, I bought DD a little trunki suitcase so she feels like a very big girl. I'm hoping that Alex will fall asleep on my lap during the flight as DD did when I flew with her as a baby. I can hope, can't I? :).
See you all next week.

Zeeky · 29/09/2010 08:51

Have a fab time Bettymum!

Princess I agree too. I look at very little other mumsnet threads now :)

Haverina I think you are inspiring a few of us to try baby-led weaning. I think once we're back from hols next week & I've got time to concentrate on weaning I will try George with some finger food. I think it will be good especially when DS1 is having his meal or we're eating as a family at the weekend.

Not too bad a night last night just 1 and 6 wake ups and settlers back down quickly. Thank the lord, as got to get up at 4.30 tomorrow to go to Disney!

Mistymoo · 29/09/2010 10:09

Princess what a lovely post.

Bettymum I'm just back from holiday and J was a wee star on both flights. I hope Alex is as good for you. Have a fab holiday.

Zeeky I hope that last night is a sign of things to come. I also wanted to ask you if you always feed George when he wakes.

J is on 2 meals a day at the moment and no pattern to milk feeds but is still waking up at least 3 times a night. At the moment I feed him but was wondering if I should. He goes back to sleep easily when fed. I'm not sure whether to establish solids properly before I tackle the sleep issue. I am also the one who does all the settling at the moment and I know that needs to change too. Any thoughts?

harverina · 29/09/2010 13:32

Hi everyone,

We have had a terrible time here. Eilidh took a terrible reaction to food last night. She had carrot and asparagus which she has had before and then I gave her mashed strawberry and natural yogurt. Suddenly her eyes started to swell, she started to gag and was vommiting really thick phlegm. She then developed a rash and was quite distressed and puffy - all within minutes, literally 5 minutes. We dialled 999. Ambulance was here in about 4 minutes, it was amazing. We went to the hospital - all very dramatic with he blue lights flashing. I can't even describe how scared I was. She appeared able to breathe and the paramedics checked her oxygen levels which were 100% so that reassured us that her airways were not blocked.

We ended up at the paediatric day ward after going to A&E. By the time she had been seen by the Dr. at A&E and then the paediatrician(about 3 hours after it all started), she was so much better. In fact she was screaming and giggling and rolling over in the cot! Meanwhile we were still panic stricken! To cut a VERY long story short, the paediatrician has made a referral to the paed allergy clinic which she will ask to be fast tracked since Eilidh is weaning and likely to be trying lots of new foods. We have not to give her strawberries or any dairy until she has been tested for all the food groups.

I am actually scared to feed her at all, which I know is silly but I am terrified of it happening again. I think that I will stick to what we have tried already?

Sorry for the long ramble. My mum has come down to give me a hand to tidy up today and get a sleep. I didn't sleep at all, just kept listening for Eilidh breathing, which I know is totally neurotic Blush.

Today Eilidh is very snotty and her nose is streaming. She keeps sneezing and her eye is a tiny bit puffy - only someone who knows her well would see it I think. She also coughs now and again. Her dad ahs a bit of a cold so not sure if today is the after effects of last night or whether Eilidh has a cold, as her nose was a bit runny yesterday.

Princess, that was a really lovely post, your totally right about this being a lovely thread. I love coming on and reading about all your lovely babies and how you are getting on. Its such a good support thread and I am so glad that I found it (I was a real latecomer!).

Hope you are all well. Going for a nice hot shower now Smile

PrincessTweetz · 29/09/2010 14:59

harverina, I always get a bout of paranoia about lack of breathing, and have to lift an arm to check, and that's without anything remotely scary happening, so I don't think you were neurotic after your scare at all. Glad everything's ok with Eilidh xx
mistymoo, i'm in the same boat as you with jude. he is on 3 meals a day now, with yoghurt/pudding after at least one of them, no routine to his milk intake at all, dd was the same so im not worried about that, but he also is waking a couple of times during night, and settles quicker after a feed, even if he only takes a couple of ounces. i am also only one to settle jude, but i personally won't be changing that...its always me that deals with the kids so its easier that i sort out their routines, until they get older when i can leave dp to do bedtime, knowing that they know the rules!! Blush
im going to wait til jude is over his cold, and then im going to stop his night feeds altogether, i think its partly my fault as in the early days i always had a paranoia about his noise levels waking dd and then her coming out of her routine, but she sleeps through his crying. i have found thaT Hhe has settled into having milk in the early hours, leaving him to sleep longer in the morning, where he was getting up with me and dd around 6.30am, and having breakfgast straight off, now he doesn't have it til near 9am some mornings, which i don't think allows enough hopurs in the day for him to 'fill' up. i personally am going to start waking him around 7ish, and giving him a final feed around 8-9pm if he needs it, he is usually in bed at 8pm, so will see how this goes. if he really struggles still after a few days, then ill change it accordingly, just see how things go, but i trhink he will be ok, he has just got into a pattern that i will ,hopefully, coax him out of!!!! sorry for anyt mistakes, jude is wriggling away on my lap, trying to munch my knuckles!!! xxx

Zeeky · 29/09/2010 16:17

Yes I still feed George when he wakes at the moment as until he is properly on solids I will always worry that it is hunger waking him. It's also usually easier to settle him back him down after a feed. I too worry that he will wake DS1 when be cries, but so far it hasn't or else he just goes back to sleep. I will stop the night feeds when he is one 3 proper meals a day.

Haverina that sounds terrifying! We have never had any medical emergencies with either of our two yet (touch wood) so can only imagine how scary it must be. It's awful enough when they have a cold or sickness bug.

I'm well behind on the packing for going away as just had to have a little nap while the boys were both asleep! Better crack on with the ironing before DH gets home!

Mistymoo · 29/09/2010 16:57

Harverina What a scare for you. I hope you get to the bottom of it soon.

Princess I think I am going to wait until J is on his full compliment of solids. You never know that may sort it out Grin. I can always dream!

My problem is that he is a cat napper and so has random naps during the day and so sometimes he is so tired by bedtime he falls asleep with his last feed and so is not getting in to the habit of self settling. I will work on that I think.

I know where you are coming from with the chewing of knuckles by the way. My shoulder got it today!

Mistymoo · 29/09/2010 16:58

Zeeky Have a good holiday!

harverina · 29/09/2010 20:42

Hi everyone,

Poor Eilidh has had a very snotty day - runny nose, blosked nose and generally not great. Not sure if it is the piritin that she got last night that has caused this or whether she actually has a cold. Any tips if it is the cold? This is the first time she has been unwell at all. Just fed her milk today, although she munched on my sisters banana earlier!

I always feed Eilidh when she wakens in the night - she almost always wakens around 4am so I am starting to think that she is waking out of habit? Not sure how to deal with it really?!

Zeeky hope you have a brilliant holday!
