Pavlov these are the Ella's Kitchen ones. Have always gone down here too. Enjoy your swim!

Maman thanks And WELL DONE with your weight, that's fantastic Hope you're very proud if yourself. And a bit at your sleep...

weston · 17/05/2010 07:55

yes ellas kitchen are a big hit here and much cheaper then there were 3 years ago! can get in asda for 90p and plum are also doing their versions in pouch style too!

is a birthday cake required for 6 month birthdays?!

doing a combo of BLW and spoon feeding as I find that not much of the stuff she feeds herself actually gets into her tummy! those on exclusive BLW do ur DD/DS actaully swallow much of it?

first monthly weight in with doctor, 3/4 stone down, 5 to go!

Fruitpastels · 17/05/2010 08:40

Happy Birthday SirB I hope you enjoy your day. Eat some cake for us lot!!

Well done ladies on the weight loss!!

weston C does swallow more than I thought. The nappies are a good thing to go by. I tend to give him the easiest things to eat as he can get frustrated with food slipping through his fingers. He loved omelette yesterday and a huge fan of broccoli. He manages to spoon feed himself, if I load the spoon for him. I quaked a little last week when the HV got his weight and age wrong and she told me to get him eating ASAP!! So I spoon fed him banana and avocado and he really enjoyed it, but he still didn't get a lot down as most went on the bib. The weight mistake is sorted now so I'm keeping with BLW as he really enjoys it. I do BF him an hour or so before meals and that really works and takes away huge hunger at mealtimes.

roomac · 17/05/2010 12:18

Hi all Just thought I'd pop in to say hello and hope that everyone is well. Olivia is sleeping - whispers we seem to have ended up in the Gina Ford routine sort of by accident. She's doing really well - on 3 meals a day and generally a very happy little thing. I stopped bf about 3 wks ago as I did 6 months for my 2 ds and wanted to do the same this time. It is really nice to have my body back - although there is still an extra 26lb of it Have to say though since stopping bf my hormones have gone a bit mental and I've been really up and down. I think they're settling down slowly. Anyway, off to purée some carrot . . Enjoy the sunshine.

weston · 17/05/2010 13:52

i dont think anyone tells u roomac that your body goes into depression when u stop breastfeeding!

ursigurke · 17/05/2010 15:00

sirboob, Happy birthday to you! I hope you are having a lovely day, getting nice presents and eating lots of cake! (Obviously you should celebrate with lots of people so I will have some cake this afternoon)

raggie · 17/05/2010 15:04

Happy birthday sirboob!

I just had my interview. It was all right. Not amazing, not awful. Blah. Oh well, I'll know by this evening or tomorrow morning.

Does anyone else do this thing though - Having convinced myself it was the perfect job for me bc it's a bit different than I've done before and would be good for CV, close to home and 5 mornings a week, perfect.... I now feel like 'well, it's probably not the right job for me anyway...even if I do get it'. Weird. Self-preservation in case I don't I guess... Well, we'll see.

Think I'll go and enjoy the sunshine now ad try to stop thinking about it! Hope you all are too.

scarlotti · 17/05/2010 16:56

Happy birthday SirB

raggie hope you get the job, fingers crossed.

weston body depression??! Really? I suffered from really bad pmt before pg so was hoping that another hormonal shake up might have banished it all but it sounds like not?

roomac good to see you

Nights are still unsettled here so think I'm going to have to get tough and pick a time to wait to feed. Might wait until nearer the weekend although I'm struggling as it is so maybe should just bite the bullet.
Am thinking if I dream feed him at 10:30 then he should be able to go through to at least 4:30 - thoughts? Plan is to just keep giving the dummy until then so he resets his internal clock. Once I've got a few nights of 4:30 sorted, then I can delay it by 15 mins a night until we get to nearer 6.

Or am I just hoping for the impossible? Metabolically at 18.5 lbs he doesn't need to be eating in the night anymore, and after 6.5 months without a full night's sleep, I'd quite like to get this sorted now!

skorpion · 17/05/2010 17:06

I posted last night but it disappeared...

SirBoob Happy birthday, what are you going to see?

Raggie hope you get the result you want. It does sound good.

Scarlotti it was your suggestion of dream feeding that started us off on the good track. Lucy's a month behind Ioan and quite a bit below his weight too and we are far off starting solids. Dream feed at 10.30 - 11pm, up at 6am. Can't see why Ioan couldn't do it.

Thanks for the sympathies, but it really was a blip. I think once you get used to a good few nights on the trot a one-off worse one feels like a huuuuge step back. I keep reminding myself how lucky I am with what I have.

Disaster struck today. Was meant to see David Mitchell read from his latest novel and do a signing and it's cancelled. My first night of doing something grown up on my own in more than five months. Damn you Icelandic volcano and your ash clouds!

weston · 17/05/2010 18:56

scarlotti yes to dream feed, they are def. the way forward and if he stirs around 4 i would just put the dummy it and he should last till 6ish

i think pmt gets worse after each pregnancy!!

scarlotti · 17/05/2010 19:50

skorpion sorry to hear your evening is a wash out.

Will give the dummy thing a go from tonight. Am sure if I just stick to my guns for a few nights I'll start to see if it's working or not.

Fruitpastels · 17/05/2010 20:45

scarlotti I hope you have a good night ahead. My evening has started off badly. C is in the lounge with me. He was tired all afternoon and wouldn't have a nap, so dinner time didn't go too well. I put him down at 7pm after a quick bf and he was sparko. He's woken twice since 8pm and DH has brung him down as he is wide awake. I wouldn't of moved from the bedroom with him but it's done now. Not sure how the night will progress. I'm having a good guess it will be sleepless!!

SirBoobAlot · 17/05/2010 21:43

Thanks for all the birthday wishes

Raggie fingers crossed for you!

Scarlotti have tried the same thing a few times, just ended up with him screaming and then being wide awake Hope you have better luck.

Skorpion sorry to hear your plans have fallen through

Roomac glad to hear things are going well with the sleeping and eating, and hope your hormones balance out soon.

Feel really bad - Bryn pulled on a huge chunk of my hair earlier as I was trying to cut his nails and ended up cutting a V shape into his thumb It bled a bit, though I think I was possibly more upset than he was. Ten minutes later he was chuckling and wiggling away quite happily with his first plaster on. Poor thing... Am grateful he won't remember this when he's older!!

Have had a really nice day - didn't do anything in particular but has been nice. Am now in my PJs about to snuggle down and watch my Bronte DVD collection from DPs mother (I love her!! ) with a box of chocolate fingers and a Lemsip drink.

hobnob57 · 18/05/2010 11:10

everything crossed for you Raggie

Took I. to the GP yesterday and got some lactulose to try to encourage her to let go of her solids more often than once a week. With that and the diluted prune juice she is so fond of [boke], we hope that should help sort the wind issue. Dirty nappy this morning

Lovely day up here . I. has napped this morning so I've been outside playing with the power hose. DD1's old highchair is unrecognisable in its non-caked-in-egg-and-other-sticky-foodiness. I. uses a Handysitt at the table but at least I can lend it to someone else without conscience now . It's amazing the feeling of satisfaction you get from achieving something unusual when the baby is actually asleep for once. I'm going to have to wake her now to go and get DD1 from nursery .

Ninjacat · 18/05/2010 12:13

Hello.

Happy Birthday Boob.

Best of luck Raggie.

I'm dipping my toe back into work. Started with a day recording oral histories in a local park for the museum and have some workshops with looked after children lined up (my proposal was accepted ).

I've started having counciling on a Tuesday morning. I think it is helping.

Tomorrow I'm going purfume making with MN. Free childcare and sandwiches, can't be bad

Laugs · 18/05/2010 17:18

Just popping in to say hi as I've been at my parents' for a few days. Hope you had a lovely birthday SirB and that you got the job raggie!

That job sounds fun Ninja . Have you stopped your maternity pay now? I am at an annoying stage where I'm being offered the odd bit of work but it's not worth my while ending my maternity pay for it. It just feels so wrong to turn down work though.

Nothing much is happening here. I haven't given James solids for a week now so we're back to square one. I'm not sure whether to start again as he is feeding ALL BLOODY NIGHT. I swore at him last night, I was so pissed off . As if it's his fault! I am really rubbish sometimes.

wook · 18/05/2010 18:53

Laugs swearing and no sleep go hand in hand! Obviously if James's first word is a rude one then you may need to but they don't remember anything before three anyway I swear far, far too much (though not at the children I hasten to add!!) and even more when I am sleep deprived. So you won't find me going judgey! Mind you, why do I swear a lot? I do actually blame my parents who cussed like sailors all through my childhood

Ninja your work sounds really interesting. I am

Raggie good luck!

Is there a smug emoticon? I got both dcs to eat mackerel today. H had it mashed up with philadelphia and avocado (yum!) and L on its own. Recipe tip: in the Tsco magazine ( I hate Tscos and won't go there on principle as they have taken our local council to court again and again to be allowed to build on land around the corner, despite the fact that literally everyone in the community opposed it, but anyway, they still send me their baby magazine!!) there is an Annabel Karmel recipe for poached salmon with carrot, potato and peas. It is really really easy, doesn't make the house smell of fish and H has just wolfed it down every time, she LOVES it!!

scarlotti · 18/05/2010 20:16

hobnob another thing you can try is brown sugar in water - lactulose is pretty much just sugar water anyway, so it's a handy alternative if you're out somewhere. I used to use it with DD.

Ninja glad you're getting some help, hope it proves useful for you. Are you ok? Great news on the work, hope that helps you get back to your old self.

Laugs if you get the odd day's work, you can utilise your KIT days. Basically you're allowed 10 days whilst on maternity to do work and not lose your maternity status. Could that be an option? I'm hoping to use that for the first few weeks I'm back to work
With James' food, I'd just start where you left off tbh. No different to if you're ill, maybe start the first day or two with something bland but don't hold back after.

wook recipe sounds good. DH hates fish so I never get to cook it as he says it smells, but I worry that the dc's never get any fish in their diet. Might have to see if I can find that magazine.

Ioan still isn't taking his milk at the CM during the day. Am wondering if it's because he gets bm from me but formula in his bottle at his dream feed. Going to send formula tomorrow and see if that makes any difference. I'd love to think that if he took more milk in the day he'd drop his milk requirements at night ... but I suspect that's just wishful thinking!

OP posts:
SirBoobAlot · 18/05/2010 20:44

Ninja I hope you feel on the up soon. Its horrible being so low, and fingers crossed this work (with am about BTW!) helps you

Laugs think its quite normal to get frustrated. I remember my very to the point HV saying when I mentioned I was I upset I had sworn at him at a few weeks old for the same reason "Better to have sworn at him then shaken him." Make me a bit but they she doesn't bat around the bush and she had a point! I miss sleep...

Wook Mmm... might have to give that recipe a shot. If my money has gone in tomorrow that may well be dinner!

Scarlotti will he take EBM from you in a bottle at home? Hope it works out, whatever.

FOR SALE: One family, consisting of one adult male, one adult female, one adolescent male and one dog. Slightly damaged, come with all equipment. Sale due to lose of sanity. £10 ONO. Buyer collect.

Any takers?

Anyway. DPs Mum text me earlier asking if she can take Bryn and I out for lunch in a few weeks. Replied that it would be lovely and it will be, but am now terrified. For goodness sakes. Only time I've been alone with her was when we were drunk tipsy after we got the news about DPs Dad. I might have to express some milk - have a feeling I will need wine...

scarlotti · 18/05/2010 21:32

SirB I think my milk gets too much lipase stuff in it (as per the kellymom site) which makes it taste a bit different once it's frozen. Only other option is to express and store in the fridge but I struggle to find the time/remember to express and now don't get much as I'm out of the habit.
I figure as he's now 6 months, the odd bottle of formula in the day is no biggie. I still do morning, after work and evening feeds, along with at least one at night although I'd happily drop that one for more sleep!!

Sorry your family are doing your head in again. Maybe it's time to peruse those property pages for rentals...?!

raggie · 18/05/2010 21:54

Hi everyone, thanks so much for your good luck wishes - they must have worked cos I got the job. Yay! V happy From Sept I'll be on 5 mornings a week, Rosa wil go to a v nice nursery for 3 and be with grandparents or daddy for the others. Exciting, althoguh sure I'll be devastated when it comes to leaving her at first

glad you've had a nice day hobnob ninja thinking of you and hope the counselling works out well. My mum was like a different person in her outlook, active-ness and confidence after having counselling for depression after separating from my dad.

Salmon carrot potato and peas sounds delicious wook. Peas are Rosa's current faves as well as sweet potato. She wolfs em down! We're still experimenting with flavours here and mushing until we have our high chair this weekend when she can have a grab at some finger foods if she wants but she had a bit of trout from my plate tonight and liked it too. Isn't their face the first time they taste something absolutely amazing though?! Hilarious, she looks like a frog with her mouth trying to go inside out or something! laugs we were hoping to help with sleep to, but no such luck. She is awake a lot at the moment too, grrr. Sympathy coming north to you X

I am a proud mummy because this weekend Rosa managed to sit up by herself properly for an extended period of time, with just a hand nearby 'in case'. Woo! Now I need a bath mat so she can do so in there. My back is aching from supporting her - she has recently been thrusting herslef out of the baby support we have....

scarlotti I might have to use an odd bottle of formula in a couple of weeks as we're going to a wedding and not sure I'll have enough pumped out by then (GPs looking after Rosa for us...hm, let's see how THAT works out...sure I will have to leave wedding at some point but luckily v close...) Point is: which? Anyone tell me how to decide?

SirB no takers for you family but yes, get on the look out for a place of your own. Sounds essential.

Right, mammoth post, better get to B.E.D. Night all x

weston · 18/05/2010 22:02

great minds wook just made the salmon and chicken receipe from the tesco magazine today, will let u know verditc tom!

also made red lentil casserole..not sure why as have never served a lentil in my life!

wook · 18/05/2010 22:04

laugs you have got me thinking on the swearing. I think swearing in the night when baby is yelling (again) and you're worn out is surely something that virtually every parent has done. Or if people are very chaste in their language I bet most of them have still muttered , or at least thought 'aaarrrrggghhhhshutupshutupshutupand let me SLEEP!!!!!!'
Other motherly swearing times for me have included:
-Undoing the buggy and putting all the bits in the boot (usually a mega swearathon.)
-weeing when the nappy is off/pooing in newly put on clothes
-trying to get the buggy up a kerb
-picking the toy off the floor for the hundredth time whilst playing 'I can drop it mummy!'
-Virtually any situation involving a supermarket, or traffic.
Ds has told me before that I am not allowed to say any more rude words in the car. To my great relief, he has stopped copying everything I say, and I am very heartened that despite all the rude words he has heard he still thinks that the 'th' sound is 'really rude' as he has been taught at school to stick his tongue out to make it.

wook · 18/05/2010 22:07

Scarlotti H has formula while I am at doing my day of tutoring. I have to pump at lunchtime usually but have to do it in the loo and so end up chucking all the precious breast milk away
How are you finding work?

wook · 18/05/2010 22:13

Raggie congrats for job and congrats to Rosa too, fantastic! Five mornings sounds very civilised, well done.
H gets a carton of SMA but I have no idea whther this is a good or bad formula milk.

Weston H is dubious about lentils but my ex stepmother (complicated!) used to cook a fantastic lentil and marmite bake when we were kids. You cook up lentils and some carrots in veg stock, then stir in marmite, transfer to a dish and cover with thinly sliced potatato and lots of grated cheddar cheese and bake. YUM!!! Much needed vitamin b12. I used to do lots of things to catively resist stepmother but it was very hard not to eat her lentil and marmite bake!
