Aubs I really don't like Florian, but you mentioning it reminds me there was a thread asking which name to choose, my DS's or Florian on Baby Names. They both got a bit of a shoeing!!! LOL! You know, I don't know how people get so offended on Baby Names. I actually don't mind if people slag off my DS's name, I find it funny. I actually know loads of little Matildas, it seems to be really popular round here.

SummerLightning · 28/04/2010 22:53

wg good luck for tomorrow. I think you are right that you might have been more into the teaching if you'd managed to get into it a bit more before having madam. It must be really hard to prep lessons with her around. GOOD LUCK!!!

zoejeanne · 28/04/2010 22:55

Hi everyone, I?ve managed to persuade DH to leave his laptop at home so I can lurk and type ? hurrah! So a vague attempt at a catch up ...

Firstly, belated congratulations to Modernlove. But you have disproved my theory that only people with good sleepers have children close together ? Can I start the sweep stake and suggest another boy? I think we need one to balance out the 2 girls we know are on the way (great news Rubes/Pubes ? thanks for sharing). And Spot may make 6 ?clackers? ? let us know tomorrow Spot

I?ve been meaning to come on and ask about potty training ? and I discover you?ve all already dissected that subject. Its way way down my agenda, but in the last couple of weeks I?ve met two people who are giving it a go already. One I know quite well so I was quizzing her on it and asked if her DS told her when he needed the toilet and she said that as he couldn?t speak much it was dependant on her noticing when his trousers were wet and putting him on the potty prompt ? that sounds like hard work, or is it me being lazy?

Kiwi that?s awful about the taxi, I hope your head and foot are both on the mend now.

On names, I?m really liking Peter and it never even made our shortlist. My first ever friend is a Peter and we?re still v close now. It was his 30th this weekend and he had a fancy dress party and the theme was ?P? ? I went as Mrs Pontipine and split the room, parents instantly identifiable because they recognised me! And Constance (Connie) is a girls name I like at the moment. Rubes as my DD has the most gorgeous name, it must be her name that you like ? she will share it with your DD (or any of the other girls too, in case your taste in girls names isn?t as good as mine )

Hi Kayz, hope you and your boys are well?

Trace and Daisy?s DD1s are both so brave ? sweets all round to them (and their mummies too)

DD has started properly walking, still wobbley, but can now walk all the way across the room regardless of whether we are there to catch her. I am in equal parts proud of my big girl and sad that I don?t have a baby anymore

Right, I have to set my alarm for 530 in the morning tomorrow ? aaarrgghh, so really should sleep. Night everyone

Rubena · 28/04/2010 23:01

Lady! It's definitely in the running! I really like it but I have 12 other's on my shortlist however C is climbing!
Sam was my boys name - well Samuel - it was a definite. You just said the name I thought you were going to use (Augusta) Not too keen on Horatia, Daffodil or Thomasina though. Hope the trip is fab and good luck with the packing!

Thanks Aubi and all who have congrated me on the frillyness coming my way! I love your dd2's name (hint hint)

Spot OMG! That will be wonderful news if it's a +! Can't wait for you to test

Good luck tomorrow WG

Hello Kayz, hope things are ok.

Rubena · 28/04/2010 23:05

Oh and Aubi - yeah he was 60/40 with the guess at the 12 week scan but he was WRONG!! In his defense though, the sonographer took over an hour in total to get all her checks done on heart, lungs, genitals etc and I had to go for a walk and get coffee in between to make her move so I did think at the time "yeah right I doubt you can decide from that scan, you're not that good, this woman does this every day!!"

KiwiPanda · 29/04/2010 07:59

Morning all! Feeling much better post accident. Was feeling a bit down in the dumps but was immensely cheered by the lovely lovely Veggie (take a bow, Veggie) who sent me flowers. Isn't she lovely? Are you embarassed now Veggie? Bless you! You're the best

One thing - I've had a headache pretty much constantly since the accident. They checked me pretty thoroughly in hospital and weren't concerned about my head, but I just wondered if that's something I should get checked out? DH wants me to go to the doctor but it's not really that bad, just a bit of a nagging one. Any thoughts, ladies?

Kayzr Hooray you're back! Hope all is good with you.

Spot I think we're all waiting with baited breath now.. come back soon and tell us the news..!

Re names, we were rather relieved DD was a girl (which we found out at scan) because we cannot agree on a single boys name that we both like. There are a few I don't mind (hardly a ringing endorsement) and DH loves really random ones. I have a bit of a problem with "foreign" names for no reason. I mean I'd be fine with an Irish one (DH is 1/2 Irish) or even Czech (I'm 1/2 Czech) but he loves the name Rafael which is clearly Spanish. We have no connection with Spain whatsoever. Then again he also likes to wind me up by announcing that his favourite name is "Blade" or "Seven" (see Seinfeld..)

Oh and you were talking words. DD calls me "dada" too. She still doesn't really say anything other than variants on "dada" and "tata" though she clearly is starting to understand a lot more, she'll blow kisses and pass things to us when asked (without gestures) so I guess it's just all in there, biding it's time. VERY excitingly last night she took a few little steps towards me - first time she's ever "voluntarily" done that. So maybe she'll walk soon, and then get on with the words business.

LadyT She has an almightly strop pretty much EVERY nappy change (except at nursery of course, where butter wouldn't melt). I actually do the non-poo ones on my lap while I"m feeding her as it cuts down the fuss (same with dressing her in the morning). They do all seem to be getting a bit forceful though don't they? They said at nursery yesterday that she was "throwing her weight around" a bit (all 19.5 lbs of it..) but that all the little ones in her age group were, so it must be a stage they go through.

I believe the formula is:

Maximum of will + minimum of communication skills = grumps

Aubergines · 29/04/2010 08:07

Are you referring to my DD2's name Rubes??? If so I am v chuffed and def think you should use it. Loads of people compliment us on our choice and I am v pleased with it. Poison's DD has the same name but other than her, and a friend of mine in Bristol who named her DD2 a week before mine was born, I haven't met any others.

Oh and LadyT, I forgot to say that I love Theodora. It was on our shortlist. As was Dorothea. But in the end we just didn't feel they worked with DD1's short little name which, I now know, is the most common female name in the world as a whole .

Yay to Your DD's walking Zoe. I am mucho jealous.

Where are you Spot?????? Have you peed on that stick yet?

I am on a four day detox so off to indulge in a breakfast of warm water and lemon juice .

spotofcheerfulness · 29/04/2010 08:27

I have to go out and buy it first so will report back later .

Had day one of trying to give T milk in his cup rather than bottle this morning. He is not a happy camper, screaming the house down and refusing to look at me but I will not give in. Will keep the bedtime bottle for a while yet, but needed to start somewhere.

Kiwi glad you're feeling a bit better (and hooray for lovely, Veggie!), strange one about the headache though. It probably is worth seeing the GP just to put your mind at rest otherwise you might be contributing to it with your worry!

ZJ that's lovely about DD.s walking. Am v impressed you're thinking of potty training. Do you think you'll give it a go? And why did you have to set your alarm for 5.30? That's inhuman if it's not even your DC waking you up then.

Aubs, your breakfast sounds.....hideous. Don't do it! Have some nice French pastry and an espresso please. You will be happier.

Oh and WG, that's a really though one about your job. I t sounds like there are a heap of minuses and not many pluses to keep you there. If you did decide to do something totally different, what might it be?

Rubena · 29/04/2010 08:58

Spot! Off you trot, Boots opens in 10 minutes - we'll be waiting here when you return, oh and have a big glass of water while you're out

Aubi - yes I am dh says he likes it but my db doesn't however they are the only two who I've said it to but I have just counted my list and it#s at 14 now what are we going to do!! Boys was easy as there were hardly any I liked so we both agreed on two and then went with one quite easily. But this girl thing in complicated! I couldn't think of your dd1's name so I had a stalk through your fb photo's so got it now -I love the Halloween ones!!

Kiwi glad you are feeling better and yay on the steps! How Lovely of Vaggie - so thoughtful (and organised).

Rubena · 29/04/2010 08:59

dh has a locum today so i'm carless. Him and ds had a dentist appointment (mines tomorrow) and I can't decide whether to lug ds there on the bus or reschedule the both of them....

JamInMyWellies · 29/04/2010 10:04

Just caught up will be back later for a proper chat.

Names thing is interesting DS1 has what at the time we thought was not a v popular name but there is a couple of other Archie's we know. DS2's name, Lachlan is not very unusual but fairly Scottish so it means it gets mispronounced all the time by these softy southerners.

Spot get a wriggle on we are all waiting with baited breath.

Beans33 · 29/04/2010 10:04

Aubs and Pubes - please can you tell me the name? I can't access facebook at work to work it out. SOB!

OP posts:
Rubena · 29/04/2010 10:44

Beans can you access your email? I'll email you it as don't want to give away Arti's RL info incase of RL lurker / stalker types, But the FB check was to remind myself of her dd1 name and that's not my shortlisted one - I was just curious

katie3677 · 29/04/2010 10:48

Spot get on with it woman.
I am either pregnant or very pre-menstrual, I have been crying on and off all morning, and proper sobbing crying as well. First when I dropped DS at school and then was practically hysterical when I had to leave DD at CM's and she screamed. Poor thing is not enjoying it at all, she won't play with any of the toys, just either sits on CM's knee sniffling or watches a video and cries on and off the whole time, heartbreaking.
Af does seem to be late this month, although I am never sure nowadays, but DH and I have hardly been near each other recently, in fact I point blank refused sex last night, which I have never done before, he wasn't very happy . On reflection though I guess the emotions are more likley to be due to nicotine withdrawal aren't they?
WG my mum is German, I never spoke German fluently (she moved over here during the war so has always had a chip on her shoulder about it) although I used to get by and did it for GCSE. I would never name any DD's after my Mum though, her name is Gisela Ingeborg!!!
Better get on with some stuff whilst I have some peace, back later to check on Spot.

Beans33 · 29/04/2010 10:55

I can access it tonight, Rubes - but not at work. Honestly, these firewall things. Mental. But luckily they haven't learnt to block MN yet! YAY! Hey, 2 weeks today is my last day in the office. Oh joy! And I'm not coming back either, as get paid less than it costs to get childcare for 2 kids. Brilliant eh?!!

Katie - gosh - imagine if you're up the clacker too! although must say, if you've just given up smoking, then it may well be that. Poor you crying so much - it's horrible feeling that low. Thinking of you. DD will get better at CMs - My DD used to hate going to the nanny, but now when I leave her, she waves at me and says "bye bye" delightedly! Then runs off and starts playing without a backward glance. I'm delighted, but at same time, feel a bit sad that she doesn't miss me more. AND I'm taking her away from there in a couple of weeks and she's so happy!

Spot!!! Come on!

OP posts:
Beans33 · 29/04/2010 10:56

Katie - also on action front - DH hasn't touched me in about 3 or 4 weeks. He hasn't even tried. In some ways I'm heartily relieved, but in others, I'm a bit sad. I'm not sure if he's worried I'll knock him back, or if he finds me a bit gross with big belly at front! Probably a bit of both. x

OP posts:
Rubena · 29/04/2010 10:57

oh wow Katie - do you hope you are? I can't remember. Although, withdrawl from the ciggies is a big possibility - dunno never smoked

Rubena · 29/04/2010 11:02

Beans just stalk Aubi's FB photo's tonight then and check out her lilest one.

C'mon SPOT!!!!!! Doesn't take that long to buy an up the clacker tester!

You too katie - off to Boots you trot. And no more crying please.

Aubergines · 29/04/2010 11:02

Don't worry, as long as it's not searchable I don't mind revealing. DD2 is N-I - N -A.

Beans, DD1 has one of the names on your shortlist. The Four letter one with two As and two Ns.

Where are you Spot???? Pee! Pee! Pee! Pee!

Rubena · 29/04/2010 11:08

Beans what's your shortlist? Did I miss it?

Beans33 · 29/04/2010 11:14

Oh I love both those names. I love short, succinct names - can you tell by I s a b e l l a??!! Hee hee! If it was down to me, Whizz would have been Sarah, but it's too similar to my RL name. And actually, she suits Whizzer so much, I can't imagine anything else. And actually, I do love that name too.

OP posts:
Beans33 · 29/04/2010 11:14

spot - think of waterfalls... sssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss

OP posts:
Veggiemummy · 29/04/2010 11:17

Katie poor you, whatever is causing it it's not nice to feel so blue.

Aw shucks Kiwi, it's the least I could do for you poor thing. You know all the girls on here that live close to you would love to help you out so if you need them while you recovering you just need to ask them. I'm glad I could do something to perk you up. I think UPI should probably get to the GP about the headache, it maybe just a side effect of a stupid driver but best to check.

Tracey I've sent my email did you get it?

Katie it's good the teacher is getting it sorted if your DS does have an underlying issue causing his lack of concentration but can I ask how old is he and do you have any problems with this at home?

Spot please check soon I can't wait any longer, you are being quite selfish making us wait so long. I am getting quite miffed.

I made the most delicious coffee this morning, just perfect, I had drunk half of it and it was at that perfect coffee temperature when DS2 knocked it onto the couch!!! So gutted I made another but it wasn't as perfect. Couldn't be cranky at him either because he is soooo cute at the moment.

Jam I love the name Archie and wanted one of the boys named it in hommage to our lives in the east end but DH vetoed it. Lachlan too is a name I loved, it's very popular in Australia.

We wanted our Alexander to be a Zander but it never worked out that way, I guess nicknames evolve and for him AK was his.

Finally DS2 is asleep. I think he is dropping his 2 sleeps and shifting to one midday sleep but it's taking some time for me to get used to it and I spend all morning trying to get him to sleep. DS1 was on one sleep by 12 months and no sleeps by 19 months so I guess I should be happy that DS2 is behind his brother in that respect.

Katie DS1 was the most painful child to settle into nursery he took soooo long and apparently cried in nursery/school for so long but he loves school now. He has had 3 different places to settle into and each time it has been an extended settle in. However, yesterday he was upset as he had to confess to DH that he doesn't miss him when he's at school anymore and he actually misses school when he's not there bless him. He was so worried we'd be sad about it. Unfortunately he's about to go on a 2 week break!

Veggiemummy · 29/04/2010 11:23

I was going to change my name to Vaggiemummy as I think it's funny but I'm too lazy to go to my account thingy, so just keep calling me vaggie, isn't it cool we are getting nicknames away from just shortening or acronyms of our names, it's like in RL.

Speaking of names I want to get a boy hamster and call him Abul, so he'd be Abul Hamster. I realise it's a bit culturally insentitive but each time I think of it it makes me giggle.

Beans33 · 29/04/2010 11:37

Vaggie - that has made me laugh out loud! DO NOT reveal that to wider MN though! I love hamsters and had loads one after the other:

Betty Doris
Oscar Boris
Winston 1
Winston 2
Edmund
Kenneth

If we get any more, I'd like to call it Pam, so it would be Pam Ham. Or Parma. Hee hee! Just thought of that.

Betty met a very untimely end - Mum had gone out for the evening, so Dad was looking after me (I was 8) and I went to say good night to Betty and she was all stiff in her cage. So Dad duly buried her while I got into bed, sobbing. I insisted he read to me out of my hamster book. He got to the chapter on hibernation and quickly skim read ahead as his heart sank... He tucked me up, rushed to the garden to dig her up. Apparently she had soil in her nose and ears etc. But he popped her in a baking tray in the Aga to try and warm her up. Mum came back to find a note from me about Betty and one from Dad saying "I've killed Betty, she's in the Aga". He'd put her in the top oven, so unfortunately, she was also well cooked... My parents didn't dare tell me that story til I was 21!!! Hee hee!
