Morning well Jacob has been lovely these last few day but is my life easy oh no I end up spending last night on a children's ward with Ds1 who had a temp of over 42 eeeak but thankfully all is okay and he has tonsilitis.

As for older children Dd is nearly 10 and can be a joy but hormones are hitting big time and apparently everything is rubbish lol she is a massive help and keeps Jacob entertained whilst I'm busy but can be a bit rough with him.

Ds1 is 5 and just full of life everyday is a big adventure and he comes out with the funniest things.

They just suprise you everyday with something new

Jacob is 6 months this week he can roll from front to back but thats it really I think he's going to be a laid back child as he just enjoys watching whats going on.

He is getting really clingy to me and crys when I leave the room Dh really sryggled to settle him last night without me I felt really torn

Off to give Ds1 some TLC

Partyofsevensoontobeeight · 07/06/2010 12:31

morning all

wmdo i would say there are pros and cons for babies/children/adults of all ages.
me and ds have some screaming rows but then we can be in the car chatting about music, work life in general nad i still think aww hes lovely (sometimes). smae with dd12, she can be a trying little madam with attitude at times but has a comedy side to her that has us in stitches, she just needs to know when the right time to entertain is,ie:not 8am sunday morn. dd7 is sooooooo lovely and caring, helps with mine or anyone elses baby/toddler, but is also getting some attitude and grumpy moods at times, and dd6 is either completely manic and loud and boisterous or cuddlely, theres no middle ground with her really.

hope i've given you some insight, all i will say is that i love them all so much and yes the chaos is great, but it is also absolutely wonderful when they are all in bed

Monday weight in = going up!

CantThinkofFunnyName · 07/06/2010 14:19

Mmmmm Monday weigh-in, I'm still doing mine but have completely plateaued. Not losing anything - but then not gaining either. Still at 10st .

Re the older kids, exactly what Party said. Yes, people do say "ooh, enjoy, they don't stay babies forever". And that is true. I do wish I could freeze Olivia right as she is now because the baby stage is relatively easy and they are just so adorable. But then again, I also enjoy seeing them grow and develop and wonder what they will be/do when they get older. The only thing I wish for all of my 3 is happiness really. Oh and DS (11) I could cheerfully throttle at the moment, but I think his teenager hormones are kicking in early !

whensmydayoff · 07/06/2010 16:02

Ok you've all cheered me up .

Everywhere I turned I seemed to get old people (and some young) going awww, he's lovely, Awww what a cute baby then on they would roll with the

BUT ITS DOWN HILL FROM HERE, OH YES, THEY WILL GROW UP - THEN YOU'LL BE SORRY MTHR FCKR.

Ok they don't ay the last bit but they might as well whilst sticking two fingers up at me.

DH is finding it amusing but I was beginning to think they were all right.

I am excited to see who they become and I have loved watching DS grow the last 3 years.
Yes there are days I wish i could turn down his volume button but he cracks me up.

Have to go out to the shops and buy some food for a change. I've never mastered getting organised since she was born.

You have done weell ctfn. What have you lost up to now?

CantThinkofFunnyName · 07/06/2010 16:46

2st 5lb since giving birth. But then again, if you remember, that's what I weighed when going into give birth and replaced baby with water retention! So, I guess once the water retention went, I've lost another stone and a bit.

Really - as busy as my life is and dieting the way I have, I should have lost more!

mistletoekisses · 07/06/2010 17:44

CTFN - stick with it. You will suddenly drop a load more weight, trust me. It tends to happen that way.

Off to look up head lice treatments. Kids in DS nursery have it and think he will eventually get a case. Need to know how to deal with it. Any advice from those with older DC's?

mistletoekisses · 07/06/2010 17:48

Anyone tried the electronic nit combs? Why is that the mention of lice makes MY head itch. DS doesnt even have them yet.

CantThinkofFunnyName · 07/06/2010 18:20

MK - trust me you are not the only one who itches at the mention of lice! Both my older DCs have had them (I think) and I deloused the entire family. That's the rule pretty much, if one gets it, do the treatment on everyone. As for electronic nit combs, I'm not a fan. The best thing I find is the Full Marks treatment and just make sure you go through the hair thoroughly of everyone. Also tbh, I did my kids whenever I heard there was a case in the nursery/school because I was paranoid about it. Don't think you're actually supposed to use the treatments unless they have lice because overuse can make them immune to it - but hey ho, I was one that would rather be safe than sorry. Urrrgh, those things really do make me shudder.

As for the weight - top half is well and truly back - but I've gone width-ways and carrying oodles of fat on my a*se and hips. That's too much pg chocolate for you!!

mistletoekisses · 07/06/2010 19:41

Thanks CTFN. Am still occasionally scratching. Has anyone come across these treatments?www.nittygritty.co.uk/site/home.asp

I still have 11lbs to lose. Have lost 2st 3lbs (including the actual delivery itself), so should be happy, but definitely don't have the tone back that i did after DS1. Think that is only going to happen once I start exercising. The weaning from bfeeding is going slowly, but once done, can work on getting back in shape.

maygirl · 07/06/2010 20:43

Struggling with slow weight loss here too
Since joining slimming world have lost half a stone over 6 weeks but in a lose a bit- stay the same- lose a bit- stay same pattern. I'm doing buggyfit once a week (did you get into it CTFN?), pilatesx1 spinning or boxercise class x 1 and usually one run, which have got up to 6 miles in 1hr. So feel a bit fed up not to be losing more. Think need to cut down portion sizes a bit more, you get loads of extra portions on slimming world for BF, but I don't think I need it, (cos I'm so small) but end up eating it as feel 'deserve' it!! Lost 2 stone since having DD (- including her). Would like to lose at least 1st7 more. I am shaping up though and can fit into some prepreg stuff despite not being anywhere near prepreg weight. Have horrible back fat though as well as bum and thighs

Hello everyone!
Lost track again and have missed 12 pages!
I'm sorry I haven't had time to read through the posts, but hope you are all doing well.
A wee update from us; Cara is now on solids as of last Friday - wanting fed 4 times overnight on Thursday was the final sign! I am still mostly feeding myself, but am giving her porridge/puree in the evening. I'm very pleased that she has been great at taking the food from a spoon and thrusts herself forwards to get it.
That's about it. Will try harder to keep up to date with everyone x

Fraochsmum · 07/06/2010 21:22

Oh yeah, weightloss - no idea actually. Got DH to weigh the dogs last week (Fraoch 36kg, Sonas 30kg), and broke the scales. Don't think there's any difference tho. In fact, had the funniest comment from someone I met today, "Jeez, that's a huge pair of boobs you've grown yourself!". Will be a shame to lose them after weaning right enough...

Partyofsevensoontobeeight · 07/06/2010 21:58

welcome back froach hows you been, i'm managed to get myself duffed again don't know how that happened. how you doing with baby no 2 plenty of practising i hope.

lol at weighing the dogs, although we did try to weigh erin on the kitchen digital scales on sat and they said ERRRR and stopped working she will need to join the weigh in soon. am going to get her weighed properly tomorrow.

well i tried erin with banana at teatime, only to see it again half an hour later, so bananas are off our list for now.

ali hope ds1 is better soon, they like to keep you busy don't they

have just watched a programme about surgery on unborn babies in the womb, both fasinating and incredibly scary at the same time.

hello to everyone hope you are all well

sorry crump missed post about your friend, sending un-mnetty hugs to you x

Fraochsmum · 08/06/2010 11:30

Congratulations Party!!!!! What lovely news, tho after 5 I really think you're mw ought to have a quiet word about how it happens . We have been really well thanks, no sign of cycle beginning so no chance of #2 yet, but still enjoying practising .
I have only tried the wee one with porridge and an organic smoothie thing, but am just about to do mince n tatties, pureed pear, and parsnip/carrot puree.
Missed your post Crumpette, but hope you are bearing up xxx

whensmydayoff · 08/06/2010 12:58

at all your LO's eating from a spoon.

Remind me, do they all take it in and push in out straight away?

The only BLW thing thats went in and stayed in was roast sweet potato wedges and banana.
I still hate it though and never know what to feed her.

Puree is just squished against the roof of her mouth and out.

Is this either, she hates puree or will get the hang of it eventually?

CantThinkofFunnyName · 08/06/2010 14:55

WMDO - the LOs need to get used to textures and tastes in their mouth and swish it all around with their tongue, finally reaching the back of their throat and then learning how to swallow it. Hence quite a bit always comes out - but it's more of a physiological reaction rather than "I don't like that". You can tell if they don't like it by their face usually (scrunched up) and watch their eyes.

Having a bit of day with bureaucracy grrrr.. So DS was on a week long school trip just before half term and 2 days before he went, he was off sick with a vomitting virus. Apparently on that day a letter was sent out for consent for those that wanted to take part in a regional athletics competition and for the after school trials. DS represented the school last year and won them a couple of medals. He's sport mad. Anyway, he didn't get the letter and then they started the trials the 2 days later and when he was in the Isle of Wight. This week he finds out about it and is rightfully disappointed that he can't take part. So I've written to the school stating what has happened and could they take my letter as consent for him to take part in the after school activity. The answer comes back, yes, for next week, not tonight and can you do a separate letter that just says that rather than how he missed out on the original letter. FFS!

Then I saw that Olivia had conjunctivitis today. So off to the doctor I go. That's all fine actually - just thought I'd say. But last week we had an appointment for DS because he has a wart on his arm. Saw a locum doctor who prescribed stuff. Pharmacy said they didn't have it in stock and would order it. Every day since Friday have been back - still waiting for it to come in. Today we are told the manufacturer has stopped producing it. So I call the doctor to get a new prescription. They can't do that because it was a locum!!! Again FFS. We need to make ANOTHER appointment to go and see a regular doctor to get a new prescription. I was told I could go to a chemist and buy something over the counter but it's not very strong. No thank you. He's 11 years old and entitled to free prescriptions. FFS we pay out for so much else, higher rate tax payers etc., I think we deserve at least that.

Grrrr. Think its PMT but a bit grumpy about stupidity atm.

whensmydayoff · 08/06/2010 17:15

ctfn your rant is permitted - that kind of nonsense is indeed a pile of shite.

Thats the sort of stuff that makes me open a bottle of wine on a Tuesday night and feel free to steal my ideas! x

jardins · 08/06/2010 18:52

Hello everyone, my goodness, like Fraochsmum I too have missed loads. Between job interviews for my DH, the resoundingly SLOOOOW legal case for our house in Normandy (due to my DD1's dad doing a runner 12 years ago after buying a house with me), investigating our Pilates/yoga project (yes, we would like to set something up within 24 months), ooh, er, my three children, various appointments, organising a double christening for early August, clearing up mountains of paperwork, and spending HOURS looking for a paper which we still haven't found (and my knitting addiction )I haven't had time to tune into the January 2010 thread.

I haven't offered my warmest congratulations to Partyofsevenoreight yet; I'm dead chuffed for you! How exciting.

I've only read the last page but I would like to add that older children are FAB too. My 14 year old DD is fascinating. I love going out with her at doing girly things and listening to her and watching her eyes sparkle when she talks about dancing, etc. My DS is 6 and a joy to be with too. I cannot believe how much they retain and absorb at this age. I found him harder work when he was 3-4 years old because he slept so badly but that's another issue. I agree that I want Angélique to stay little and cute for ever but it is true that I love watching them developing.

I so love babies. Sigh

Re: head lice! Yukk. My DD used to get them so much. The only thing that truly worked for us, and I mean really worked was slapping on loads of conditioner onto wet (washed) hair and combing her hair for like 30 mins every evening for 3 nights and then every 3 evenings. The lotions, etc are crap IME.

Rest assured ladies my weight loss has stagnated as I feared imagined. Bf does that to me. I hold onto 9-10 lbs until I stop and that is not going to happen for a long time.

I have started my perenium physio!! Yep, here in France we get 10 sessions free. It's the first time I've ever done it and I am amazed to say I am really enjoying it especially as the midwives who followed my pregnancy are doing it so we know each other quite well.

I am feeling so much better now my iron tables have kicked in which is a good thing as I still haven't found that paper I've been looking for........

I haven't read Crumpette's post so I must catch up.....

jardins · 08/06/2010 18:57

Actually the physio is kinda surreal. Imagine someone having their fingers stuck up your fanjo for 20 minutes telling you your vagina is a castle with a drawbridge, or, imagine there is a turquoise wave washing into your grotto. The incredible thing is that it really works: putting images to movements is effective.

whensmydayoff · 08/06/2010 20:16

jardins

You are kidding us right?

They don't really stick their fingers up your fanjo because that would be just.........wait

....WHY, What will happen to our British Fanjo's without waves and drawbridges?
Im worried now about my fanjo castle being left with the door open

crumpette · 08/06/2010 21:29

Thanks for kind wishes. I feel so shocked actually-bleurgh

party you're hilarious! I have indeed declined to comment no no noooo

WMDO, I happen to know jardins speaketh the truth. My scary french neighbour told me she went home to France after having her baby in January, as it happens, and she had her postnatal vagina sorted out by a specialist everyone does there, apparently!!

It made me cross my legs and squirm, I dread to think of my grotto.. more of a huge bottomless cave?? ah the joys of having babies but not being French..

also, DP has just found out he really is redundant and they're offering him even less than statutory redundancy pay [horrified, will be homeless by august]

oh a brighter note, DS ate a banana today (mashed though, couldn't bear the mess of a whole one today!) but he loved it!

OP posts:
CantThinkofFunnyName · 08/06/2010 22:13

Crumpette - how can they offer him less than statutory redundancy? That's law [shocked].

So sorry to hear about your friend. Hope you're bearing up ok. Life's too short and all that - puts things into perspective doesn't it. Enjoy each day as if it's your last and above all be happy....

crumpette · 08/06/2010 23:25

Yeah it's mad, they're calculating it as if he's worked there a year less than he has, and they've also shaved off a month of his notice period to ensure that another year is cut out of the calculations (by a matter of 2 days!!) so basically it's 2 years less than it should be and all a bit crap! It will pay the rent for maybe 2 months. Yes CTFN, you are right. I just got her email the day before, asking for a pic of DS and asking my advice on something and I didn't reply. Oh dear. I'm still pretty stunned about everything that happened last year (DD, my grandmother) and now my best friend -who was still a friend (she was soooo nice, supportive, understanding) agh, sorry for the vent I'm just feeling a bit stunned I guess. I can nominate many many people who I wouldn't even blink about (sorry but tis true) but no, my 3 favourite people And DP is being a nutcase due to his job! I think the only option we have is to take to a tribunal. DP is an employment law expert (the irony!) but sadly is a bit too fuzzy to screw his head on and do anything right now

But yeah, you know, all these people dying. It kind of makes me realise, I am not happy, and I don't know how long I am going to be around- I could die tomorrow, even. I need to make every day count ok maybe not that..

sorry everyone for my me me me miserable posting! I shall be less grumpy tomorrow!

PS party- when do you find out if it's twins!!??

PPS do you like the way I deliberately missed avoided the weigh-in
