New thread, we chat so much!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
PavlovtheCat · 31/03/2010 20:52

sirboob thing with toddlers, it creeps up on you, rather than what you experienced which was full force with no preparation . That, and a lot of wine .

skorpion i love that macaroon recipe, i shall be doing that tomorrow to win the respect of my houseguests who are bringing a roast chicken to us for dinner!

I meant to say in mybearlier post - i met up with a MNer today - spidermama. Took her for a walk on Dartmoor with her children and mine, as she is visiting this neck of the woods. She was a really lovely lady, I was very impressed with how chilled out she was, and her children were fab and a good afternoon was had by all!

Oh, and DH - day 4. No cigarettes. He is going to celebrate one week with a big fat piece of steak on saturday! He said he does not miss smoking. He realises now how he actually did not enjoy it at all. I am very proud of him, even if he has a very strange mood about him (hope that passes!)

DontWorryBaby · 31/03/2010 20:55

Sorry scarlotti cross posted. I took the chance when it was my niece a few weeks ago. But that was before I saw BBL's photos of poor toby on fb. Not sure I would take the risk now.

PavlovtheCat · 31/03/2010 21:14

scarlotti we were using the eco ones by sainsburys as they were 3rd off to give them a try, and in the day they are ok as we can change them a bit more (so normally not really cost effective), but night time, they are not so good. So we have bought some pampers for night time. I want to do eco as I feel terrible about the poor landfill being choked up with my DSs poo for hundred of years. So this way, we are at least doing less damage, even though we are still doing some!

DWB oh i remember with DD how I did a proper routine, right down to the letter (DH was far more laisse-faire about it all). This time round, Reuben is lucky he gets a bum change each night and a bit I am just about managing to do a routine that means Bella gets to bed on time without Reuben screaming for his own bedtime milk. I am working on that by feeding him one side of milk while reading Bella her stories. So, i guess he gets one of sorts! Anyway, back to your question, i would say, bath time - fit it in before row your boat and stories. So do bath, into his room, then your routine. Reuben screams when he is getting dressed straight after a bath too, have no idea why either, as normally he likes getting changed. Maybe he gets cold for a moment? maybe he is enjoying it so much ?

PavlovtheCat · 31/03/2010 21:18

oh dear our sky box has just turned itself off and would not turn on again. DH is watching Arsenal vs Barcelona Championship League quarter final. He is cursing and swearing like nobodies business and that box is not being treated very nicely...

..oh dear oh dear...it has just turned itself back on, while i was calling sky. In the 3 mins it was off, Arsenal scored. I knew it, I knew that would happen. He is a serious arsenal fan and given the lack of fags, he is a very unhappy bunny, even though they were losing badly anyway.

misssese · 31/03/2010 21:23

dwb do you bath him in the bath or a baby bath? I bath pearl in a baby bath in her room ( its much warmer and i put her heater on full blast!) If you have a baby bath you could also bath in his room and as you take him out start the singing ( maybe help distract from crying?) and then carry on with the rest of the routine as normal?

scarlotti · 31/03/2010 21:32

Pav agree re landfill but am sure a pampers a night will be fine. Lol at the sky box! Dh here watching it too.

DWB on bath nights I do it before the stories etc. Ioan only gets stories as I'm reading them for DS1. He's nicknamed my room 'storyland' and brings up his books and snuggles in my bed!
Ioan cries when you put his arms into clothes He outgrew the baby bath a while ago!

tigger32 · 31/03/2010 21:44

Hello all,

Anyone feeling broody I am big time I have no idea why as I am struggling to get through each day with 3 children, so I have no chance with 4!

DWB your routine sounds good I agree with Pav maybe do bath before going into his room or maybe when you do change into pjs? I did a really strict routine with ds1, a slightly less strict one with ds2 and well poor Henry gets bath/wash, big feed and bed somewhere between 7pm and 8pm.

Pav well done to your DH

Scarlotti hard choice on chic pox, I can see your point on getting it out of the way while you are still off but like you say you don't want your last few weeks off with a poorly baby. If it helps pox has just gone around nursery and toddlers but Hen hasn't caught it, maybe breast milk is enough to prevent at the minute?

DontWorryBaby · 31/03/2010 21:46

Thanks for the tips. We bath him in the bath so I think we'll just bath before the rest of it. He's wild in the bath so that prob makes sense before the winding down stuff.

Didn't work tonight, he's been awake the past hour!!

DontWorryBaby · 31/03/2010 21:51

tigger I am!!! But I must avoid it for now, my parents are buying my wedding dress and I'd hate to have to tell my dad we'd lost all that money. So no 'trying' until august at earliest. Wedding in October.

But I'm only on my first, I'm surprised you have the time to feel broody!!

PavlovtheCat · 01/04/2010 06:57

Well i hope you all had a better night than me, which is why noone has posted since 9:30pm and noone is up now!

Reuben had a very very unsettled night, to the point of hardly any sleep, either of us. He would not settle anywhere other than on my chest, and in the end, not even there. He cried/squealed whenever he was laid down. At about 4am, he had a few really hard farts come out, which seemed to hurt him but no relief, and he was awake so i changed his bottom, and wiggled his legs, which he loved! He weed on himself so i changed his clothes, and while naked, he coughed/choked, and when i picked him up he was quite violently sick, all over me, and himself. So, we have both had a cleanup, then he released some more serious gas, and seems much calmer, and has just fallen asleep on the boob, more peaceful than the whole night so far.

Not sure what went on there, whether he fed more because he was feeling sick, or sick because he fed more (i did put him on the boob more as he was just not settling, but he suckled rather than ate). He definitely had a lot of stuck gas that was causing pain. I wonder if it was the large quantity of profiteroles i ate (£1 in sainsburys!) or the red wine .

So Reuben us now asleep, i am wide awake, DH is fast asleep in the front room and DD is due to wake up any time from now on. h the joy of it all

DontWorryBaby · 01/04/2010 08:06

pav My night wasn't as bad as yours but more unsettled than is the norm here. Eventually got him back to sleep around tennish. I think we were awake at half two for a feed then back to sleep. About an hour later he was lying in his cradle talking really loudly! Eventually brought him into bed telling him to ssshhh cos daddy was sleeping which got big grins. A quick rendition of twinkle twinkle got him back to sleep.

Second batch of jags today so who knows what the day will bring...

Fruitpastels · 01/04/2010 08:06

What a horrible night for you and Reuben. Maybe he was sensitive to the chocolate, I'm sure I've heard (maybe on here) that choc can make babies sickly.

We had a weird night. I went to bed at 10pm, then we had 2 hourly wakings up until 6am. Yesterday, he didn't feed that much, so wondering if he was making up for it through the night. Also, after saying that i want to keep him in the hammock for a while longer, I may have to back track on that. I think he wants to stretch out more and there is no space in the hammock for that. I'm moving the cot to my room today, to test him out tonight. I'm leaving the hammock up for now as a back up. I will not be able to move in our bedroom!

I've had to stop bathing C every night. He's skin got very dry a few weeks ago. I'm now doing it every 2nd or 3rd night. I'm using olive oil on his skin, which seems to help a little bit. Anyone else using a natural oil or moisturiser on their baby? I would like an alternative to try.

Do you all have nice plans for Easter? We are going on an egg hunt at the local park tomorrow (weather permitting). I'm thinking of inviting MIL on Sunday for lunch with her partner. I can't be arsed to anything socialable lately.

Fruitpastels · 01/04/2010 08:07

where did that bunny appear from?!

scarlotti · 01/04/2010 08:11

Oh Pav, you must be shattered Sounds like he had an upset tummy for whatever reason poor little mite. Can you wake DH up when DD gets up and then head back to bed?

We have a friend's wedding today so looking forward to that. Usual start to the day here though when dh isn't working - I am up with all the dc's and he is still in his pit bed Surely you'd think with the fact we're in relate and I'm saying how there's little to no support/help he'd be doing a little more?! Sigh.
All in a hotel room tonight so that will be a broken night. I'm taking the kids then to a Good Friday service in the morning and I just know he'll go back to bed while we're out.
One sided doesn't even begin to describe it

Well Ioan woke at 3 last night, presumably as he'd missed a feed in the evening and then I wasn't here to feed more when he went to bed. Not as much of a broken night as I'd thought might happen though.

Oh, and I thought I'd bought that no cry sleep solution book ... but on closer inspection it's the no cry nap solution! It's his naps I want to focus on anyway so maybe not a problem - a few brain cells for me wouldn't go amiss!

scarlotti · 01/04/2010 08:18

Fruit definite making up for lost calories here in the night
Fingers crossed the cot goes well, have been thinking I should buy a new matress for ours and think about putting it together.

Fruitpastels · 01/04/2010 08:26

scarlotti something is bothering him, I'm sure it's teething. He was very tearful after an hour of waking up this morning. Good idea to get the cot matress sorted out and ready. Where does Ioan nap during the day? Enjoy the wedding!

misssese · 01/04/2010 09:35

hammock friends pls let me know how you get on with the transfer to the cot! I think Pearl is still happy in her's but not sure when to change over was thinking 6months? But that is also when I am thinking of putting her into her own room. I think doing both these at the same time would be too much, maybe start with the hammock in her room then progress to cot?

fruit I love that bunny

Sorry to everyone who had bad nights sleep Pearl was up quite a bit last night . Lovely DP, when he got up took pearl with him while getting ready for work.So I got to sleep in till 8.30 when he left for work!

weston · 01/04/2010 09:45

off to ireland in a few hours, hope ye have a fab easter and the bunny brings lots of chocolate and sleep

PavlovtheCat · 01/04/2010 10:03

oh that bunny is an easter bunny

PavlovtheCat · 01/04/2010 10:03

oh i don't have an easter bunny

PavlovtheCat · 01/04/2010 10:13

DH took the children and let me sleep a bit. And then woke me up with DS in his arms, and DD in my face. He sat on the bed, expecting something, not sure what, some kind of communiction ? he got 'coffee' and that was about it .

Reuben is an absolute joy! in a great mood for daddy and appears to be not at all tired. He is due for a nap now though so I need DH to take him out, and am sure he wont. He is hot, but not on his face . I am sure it not chocolate, as the profiteroles had less than a large bar of chocolate which I have eaten before with no problem. But maybe the cream? (i did eat about 14 . Also, I have been drinking white wine more recently, rather than red, and I did not enjoy this glass of red as much as I have in the past, so think it could have been not a very good bottle?

DD put her dirty fingers in Reuben's mouth, and when told off got grumpy, so DH told her to go on the step for 3 minutes. and she tried to negotiate! She said 'how about 2 minutes?' and held up two fingers! cheeky, and it took a lot of effort not to laugh!

DontWorryBaby · 01/04/2010 11:15

pav did you let Reuben type that message? Glad you got some more sleep

Ethan's jags went well, thought he wasn't going to cry at all but he had a delayed reaction. Calmed down quickly enough. Home to discover the dog had chewed the tube of teething gel. Hardly anything out of it though, the tingle must've put him off. Stupid animal!

PavlovtheCat · 01/04/2010 11:52

Oh dear, just saw that post! That would be my little Bella wanting to do some 'writing' I had said no, but clearly she does not understand that word!

Hope Ethan feels better after his jabs soon, the third lot are meant to be hardest, I guess they are more aware.

Ninjacat · 01/04/2010 11:59

Good Maundy Thursday to you all.

I want a bunny!!!!

Sca glad someone is giving you a bit of a hand, sorry it's dd and not dp though.

Welcome back Fubble. Laugs I have finished "My Latest Griviance" - finally. Will move on to the next one now. Would you like "Behind the Scenes at the Museum"?

Pav glad you got some sleep. What's your easy fairy cake recipe? I'm intregued (sp?) to know.

You survived then Sirboob! Well done you

I'm feeling future broody (if that makes sense?) I really like having Alfie and I'm enjoying being able to give him lots of attention so don't want to break that yet (or be pregnant - ugh) but know I will want to do it again in a while. Having done the only child bit for such a long time I don't want to repeat it again. We are thinking of ttcing after christmas.

DS got up this morning at 8am, washed up, dried up, did the hoovering and went to the shop for the paper and milk - haven't worked out what hes done/wants yet...
