Neenz - I have got used to the early risings now and just go to bed at 9. Luke is never going to do that 8am thing! I am up every morning at 5.30 now even if Luke has miraculously not woken yet. Hey ho. He is perfect in every other way.

I actually has seen a suspect spot on his tummy. Saw it yesterday and expected to see more tody but nothing yet. A girl in his class's brother has just come down with CP so possibility. Still I think he would have more spots by now. I hope not as we still have builders until Wednesday (although looking great now!). I think we will have dust forever.

Essie let me know what day and where - I have some stuffin the diary but can work round it as only a morning or afternoon not a whole day. Don't come here though - will meet you somewhere else (as long as L does not have CP!).

Rolf Mark has said the same thing loads but actually inmy home alone state I probably should be doing it!

neenz · 27/03/2010 20:18

Amber, bummer that you wake up anyway! What time does he go to bed at night? I know some people put their early risers to bed quite early, it obviously doesn't help them sleep later in the morning but at least it means you get more child-free time in the evening.

Essie, sorry in my last post I didn't mean for it to sound like moving to London would solve everything cos of course it wouldn't. It would be the best of two bad choices for me (moving away from family/friend support would be very hard) but obviously it is not for you and for good reason. I think you are doing a great job considering the circumstances - it is very hard when you have two very important careers in different parts of the country, and a child too. I take my hat off to any mother who juggles house, children and a full-time job (pretty much on your own too) - I struggle to do two days at work and everything else plus a bit of a rest sometimes. You must be on the go non-stop.

I think five monitors is a lot. We have a BT digital monitor which was £30 from Amazon - it has been great, still working so far.

Talking of tantrums/meltdowns, T is hitting the terrible twos big time! We went for a walk to the beach today, it is about a mile from where we parked the car to the beach. After 40 mins walking (we didn't take the pram) and still 100m or so away from the beach we decided to turn back. The kids had done brilliantly walking up to that point, but T was most unimpressed that we were turning back and went into full-on tantrum mode, crying/screaming and refusing to get up off the floor. Usually I would just put him in the pram and let him scream but we had no pram so Dh pretty much had to carry him back screaming for about 30 mins . Not fun! But we got there eventually and by the time we got back to the car he had calmed down and was walking again. He had another meltdown though when he saw he was going in the car . Lucky for us E behaved herself cos I am not sure how we would have done it if she had tantrummed too cos I struggle to carry them now as I am quite big. Bless her, she does get tired more quickly and is always first to hop back in the pram, but she walked all the way back. A lesson learned - we still need the pram when out walking!

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 28/03/2010 11:41

has anyone seen any nice toddler boy gilet style things in the shops recently? Could do with one for S. Thanks!

neenz · 28/03/2010 16:35

I bought T and E some trikes and scooters on ebay and was well pleased with myself cos they were a bargain, but as always the new toys haven't gone down as well I had hoped. E loves the scooter and just wants to push it round, which is fine until she ends up in the flowerbed or somewhere else where she gets stuck - then she cries. She got stuck so much that eventually she was just crying non-stop even if she wasn't stuck! So I took it off her and put it in the garage (will bring it out again in a month or so!) she had a major meltdown - even though she was crying when she was playing with it . T couldn't get on the trike but only wanted to push it round by the parent handle anyway, which of course was far too high for him. He had a scooter too but obviously only wanted to play with the pink Barbie one that Esther was playing with. They have both gone in the garage (the scooters not the twins ). Will try again some other day!

Just tucking into last night's pizza warmed up . Yum

DebInAustria · 28/03/2010 22:45

Goddess, sorry to hear about your Granny

Rolf - is your dh still in the cellar?

Sponge- great news on the house front

everyone else ´really sorry no time to answer personally. busy, busy here, Stefan's 10th >Birthday this week so cakes to make, party to prepare etc...houseful of guests and lots more next week, so I`ll just be popping in.

Got to take Ethan to an orthopaedic specialist because he's a bit twiggy toed(intoeing)but he just does it with 1 leg, and seems to drag his right foot bit. GP said it didn`t look like a big problem, so we'll see what the specialist says. Ds1 was similar but with both feet turning inwards and they righted themselves on their own without any intervention.

Amberc · 29/03/2010 14:49

Haven't we gone quiet at the mo? Neenz your story made me laugh! I am the only person pleased about the time change as luke is now up at 610 instead of 510! He hasn't got the dreaded pox thankfully. Not much more to say really other than now lost 9 lb at ww hurrah!

SpiderWilliam · 29/03/2010 18:50

Wow Amber that is impressive about the 9lbs.

I am happy about the time change too, although P has woken at:
fri: 6am
sat: 6am
sun: 6.20 (so 5.20 in old time)
mon: 6am (5am old time)

that is despite putting him to bed an hour later last night.

At the in laws this weeks. Lovely and relaxing and I get to have a long sleep in the afternoons. Went to a very chilly north east beach with P and the ILs puppy this morning. Spectacular but P not good at coping with sand on his hands, or his ball drifting across rock pools and me not letting him go in after it. Grandma collected the ball from the other side though.

neenz · 29/03/2010 23:52

Ooh Spider, long afternoon naps sound fab! Are your in-laws a long way from home?

Amber, well done on the 9lbs, I lol'd at Mark always telling you now he loves you! What are men like.

E asked for her scooter from the garage a few times today - well I think that's what it was, she just stood at the garage door (the one through from the kitchen) saying 'deem' or something equally nonsensical. It peed it down all day so they couldn't go outside anyway. It stayed in the garage. I only bought it cos she loves to just stand on the one at playgroup. Obviously she is too small to ride it properly yet. She just stood on this one at first too, it's just when she started trying to push it round that she got into trouble. .

She has also got a new coat (well it is a hand-me down from my niece) and she wants to have it on all the time. As soon as she gets up in the morning she says 'coat on, coat on'. This morning she had it on over her pyjamas! It is bright pink with big flowers on. Unfortunately it is only 12-18mths so it is already quite tight on her. It will never last the summer, I am going to have to retire it and hope she forgets about it in a few days!

Debs, hope the party goes well!

neenz · 29/03/2010 23:54

Oh yes, the clocks going forward has been fab. They are sleeping an hour longer so far (I had to wake them at 8am this morning)

Rolf · 30/03/2010 07:57

Morning everyone

We're very quiet, aren't we?

I had my v veins done yesterday, how exciting! DH had the children all day and cajoled them into doing jobs around the house, and between them they got lots done so I feel a mixture of grateful, impressed, inadequate and redundant . We decided it was time to stop bfeeding Thea and she's been pretty much ok, and DH is all psyched up to look after them whilst I'm recovering, so I'm doing it cold turkey so my boobs are probably more uncomfortable than my leg.

I had a few hours' wait at the hospital (in a nice clean private room, hurrah for the NHS!) and it was lovely to be able to read during the day without interruptions. As soon as I was over the anaesthetic I got some more reading done, so it was a bit of a holiday!

Amberc · 30/03/2010 09:05

Oooh Rolf that sounds lovely - maybe I should get my veins done!

Luke had his first proper bad dream last night that he could tell me about! Much as it took ages to resettle him it was so cute. He told me there was a frog in his bed biting him! (he can't say 'f' so calls it a shrog!). He has a frog in the bath and we play at it biting his toes so that must be where he got it from. Unfortunately then due to his cold he didn't sleep properly all night so I am knackered as usual.

I have to make an easter bonnet for Luke and I don't know where to start! I bought some stuff from the newsagents - glue some coloured card and crepe paper an a few stick on stars and it was £8.95!!!!!

Anyway hi to everyone - can't understand why we are all so quiet at the mo - I usually can't keep up!!

PiggyPenguin · 30/03/2010 09:15

Sorry I haven't been around, mixture of continuing illness and house stuff for the move.

Glad to hear your op went well Rolf, and that it turned into a bit of a reading holiday!

Amber, how cute is Luke? What a very naughty frog though. Hope it doesn't turn into an ongoing thing, as that could get old very quickly.

Neenz J got very annoyed at the weekend because he can't get the tractor in the garden to move on his own. He had a big strop and then turned his ankle slightly on the uneven lawn and was in floods with very exaggerated limping. Its tiring isn't it!

PenguinNZ · 30/03/2010 10:30

I quite like it that you're all a bit quiet - I can keep up! Sorry to hear about all the illnesses though. Seems to be lots going round here too incl a new variant of the norovirus. Luckily R seems ok, touch wood. (Had hep B & flu jabs today and hardly seemed to notice, luckily).

Laughing at hubbies in cellars and babies in garages.

Neenz - Yr weekend sounds wonderful, esp bath and posh meal.

Spider - R seems to love sand bizarrely. Esp if he can tip it out of his shoes over a nice clean floor. Sorry to hear about the early wakings. Thanks for the Sponge update.

Well done on weight loss Amber.

DGoddess - Sorry to hear about your nan, how's your Dad coping?

Essie - You have got it pretty tough, so rants are allowed. I remember you taking that photo. Good times...

Ry has had a trike since his first b day and was over the moon when it arrived here. Generally pretty good on it but has a bit of trouble getting on and off it. He was sitting on it at the other end of the garden the other day and started shouting for me or DH to lift him off. Now our garden is pretty big here and we were both quite happy sitting on thee deck so shouted no, get off yourself (yes, lazy parents). He had a bit of a scream, but as we're trying to ignore tantrums, we still didn't move. Eventually, after about 5 mins, I got up and went over. Turns out he had somehow put the waist strap on himself and really was stuck. I felt like a very bad guilty Mummy. (But also thought it was pretty funny....)

Generally bored of tantrums here too.

I know I've forgotten lots and missed loads of you, sorry! (Deb - DH loved your FB photos).

ktpie · 30/03/2010 14:57

I don't know where the last week or so has gone, I think I've kept up with reading but as it's often at 3.30am while feeding H not too sure!

It's all gone tantrumtastic here, so I'm kind of glad to hear that I'm not the only one, but obviously not glad that others are suffering. I'm not sure if the arrival of H has exasperated the situation, although J is still generally very affectionate to H unless he is in naughty mode then he tries to hit him.

We had the 8 week check and immunisations this morning. The doctor was running an hour late and after behaving impeccably for 45 mins in the waiting room J got fed up and started trying to go through the door to the doctors rooms on his own. He was OK while we had the check up (and smear, lovely) but then had a meltdown when we had to leave the doctors room, so she ended up picking him up kicking and screaming and carrying him down to the nurses room (serves her right for keeping us waiting ). A poor student nurse had to hold H while he his jabs and I tried to calm J down then she ended up on the floor feeding J magic stars, he was refusing to use his hands to eat . I've just about recovered and J and H are sleeping the excitement off.

at Ry stuck on his trike Penguin!

Sybil - when are you moving?

Amber - has the internet got any easter bonnet ideas?
How sweet about the bad dream.

Rolf - glad the op has given you a break!

H has woken up hungry so I'd better go, hello to everyone else and sympathies about your gran DG.

neenz · 30/03/2010 16:52

Amber if you have time can you find an easter bonnet kit online? I saw one in a craft shop window last week so they definitely do them. Not sure what's in it tho!

ktpie, a 45min wait is a long time - no wonder he had a meltdown. How useless of the surgery. Sounds like you coped pretty well tho!

PP, so can Ry push the trike along or does he just sit on it or get pushed? Cos T's legs didn't reach the floor (and he couldn't actually get himself on the seat cos it was just a touch high) so he just needs to grow a bit I think! That made me laugh about being too lazy to get up and help him - I do that all the time

All 3 of us had our sf jabs yesterday - they were pretty good but it was worse than when they were newborns (when jabs never bothered me [uncaring mummy]) - this time they could see the needle coming and were trying to bat it away! They only cried for a minute or so, but I had it too and it really hurt. They have been very brave and have had no side effects, me not so much - I couldn't sleep on that side last night cos my arm was so sore!

It has rained pretty much non-stop for three days - they are getting very frustrated being inside. They keep standing at the back door going 'tide, tide' (outside) or saying 'coat on coat on'. I could just send them out in wellies and waterproofs but then they come in all wet and I can't be bothered [lazy mummy!]

Amberc · 30/03/2010 18:24

Yes the weather is getting us down too - it's horrid. I hope it doesn't stay like thisfor the bank holiday. No plans yet but it sure doesn't involve staying in all weekend.

I have made Luke an easter crown which is basicallya band of cardboard with crepe paper in the middle and decdorated with my handmade, handpainted and glittered masterpieces (eggs, chicks and daffodils!). It took me an hour more or less and will last 10 seconds I think when Luke gets it on.

I don't know whether to have the SF injection for Luke. Still undecided, The docs said there was a really low take up.

Amberc · 30/03/2010 21:07

I have just seen the forecast for the weekend and it stinks. fecking typical. I do remember one Easter in April when I was a kid going to a caravan for the weekend and being snowed in.

neenz · 30/03/2010 21:59

Ah isn't the British weather great! I remember going on a school trip in May once and it snowed!

Easter bonnet sounds fab - lol at it lasting two minutes with Luke. Is it for nursery?

I had to go back to bed at lunchtime today - I am such a lightweight. I had a late night last night cos I wasn't home from the footie till after 11pm and it was after 1am when I got to sleep. I hate having to go back to bed when the twins nap cos it seems like such a waste of my free time but I just had to!

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 30/03/2010 23:21

Granny's funeral went ok today today. Thanks again for all the kind messages.

Went to a friend's for dinner - we've just driven home in treacherous conditons. Thick snow on the ground!

PenguinNZ · 31/03/2010 02:45

SNOW!! Again? Wow. If I tell you the weather forecast for this weekend here, you will all hate me!

It snowed on Easter Sunday a couple of years ago - my friend got married in Richmond Park, and we were all bloody freezing!

Then again, DH and I met on Good Friday 7 years ago after I'd spent the day sunbathing and went to the pub wearing a short jean skirt, t-shirt and flip flops (ahhh, remembering when I was slim enough and young enough to pull in such a casual outfit).

KT - Not sure that counts as a tantrum, I'd be going loopy after waiting that long too.

Neenz - Ry can push himself along on the trike if it's on concrete, but not on the uneven grass in our backyard. He is quite tall though I think (a month ago he was 85cm). Not a chance of him using the pedals though, however much we try. And you're not a lightweight, you're busy growing a baby (on top of looking after twin toddlers), you're allowed to be tired.

Bad night here with about 7 wakings, turned into a bad day too as DH and I are being really ratty with each other as we're tired. Rah!

neenz · 31/03/2010 16:08

Glad the funeral went ok, DG. It's a sad time isn't it and emotionally draining too.

Thanks PP, you're right about the tiredness - I just hope I cope a bit better with tiredness once the baby is born! I am planning to go back to bed every lunchtime with this baby anyway - just latch it on and snooze! I could never do that when the twins were newborn of course, there is so much I am looking forward to this time that i couldn't do with the twins (co-sleeping, slings etc). I am even planing to take it to the football with me! So about the weather there! We have been spoiled these last few weeks with quite mild weather but now it has turned horribly cold, wet and windy again . My mum and dad are in nz next week actually on hols.

SpiderWilliam · 31/03/2010 17:35

Neenz. PILs in north east and I am in south east so 250 miles. Regular stays for R&R not an option unfortunately. I am a complete fan of daytime naps for
Mummy when DCs are asleep, but then P probably wakes about 2 hours earlier than the DTs each morning. That's my excuse for daily naps anyway.

Just took advantage of cheaper prices up here and got my car serviced and MOTed for £125! I think it was more like £200 last year. My car passed the MOT too, so all was good.

DebInAustria · 31/03/2010 19:58

Neenz- I've posted a photo on FB especially for you - it's Ethan wearing his favourite coat of the moment - Stefan's new bodywarmer/gilet!

PenguinNZ · 01/04/2010 11:01

Ah Neenz, you're gonna love having a single baby and will laugh at all of us moaning over the last 18 months. :0) If your folks are anywhere near us and miss the twins they are v welcome to drop in (we're in Marton, Rangitikei and I miss the English accent!!!)

We went to a local organic farmers market again this morning and the prices are seriously amazing. For example 75c for 2 corn on the cobs (about 35p). Fresh and amazing food. They haven't yet got the 'exclusiveness and expensiveness' of farmers markets over here yet. All this and yet I still miss starbucks....

OK, I am planning to seriously start knitting this year, Essie I am embarassed that you borrowed my dvd and are already doing hats! So can you experienced knitters pls point me in the direction of some idiot proof stuff I can make for Ry or even DH othis winter?

Ps Are any of you political types involved with any transitional towns? Planning on joining the local one here, but would love some feedback for what I'm letting myself in for (esp as I don't think that the armagedon will happen in the next decade!!! As some TT websites suggest...)

Loving Debs cake photos on FB btw.

DebInAustria · 01/04/2010 15:34

Thanks Penguin

Stefan is currently on a piste machine(for those that don't know, the huge machines which groom the ski pistes every night) with his friend and his friends father. It's a birthday treat for Stefan and he was soooooo excited. He's doing the night shift - 4pm-11pm It's currently snowing - a lot, poor thing won't be able to see anything. Can't wait for him to get back to tell me all about it, we're all jealous! He forgot his camera though which is a real shame.
