ts definitely no expanding of brood.. will be getting the mirena coil fitted this month .. glad you and your troops are on the mend.. sounds like a very nasty dose..

pleased to say that i called nursery and dd1 has eaten her lunch fine and is happily screaming and shouting like the best of them.. her key worker did say however that whenever dd1 catches her looking at her she holds her throat.. what a little drama girl.. relief all around..xxx

so how do i tell if the spots DS has got are chicken pox or not? just want we need at the moment

oopsandbabycoconut · 19/03/2010 13:10

If it's the pox the spot start on the back and tummy red and raised then develop little blisters on top. once one arrives the come thick and fast usually totally spotty within24 hours. Contagious until spots have crusted over totally clear in 10ish day. You need to ensure you have had it too so if not usre you need to ring the MW and have a immunity test done.

dizzydixies · 19/03/2010 13:55

agree with Oops - normally appear on the torse as wee blood blister type spots - good news is that the pox are only an issue for pregnant woman right at the very beginning or pregnancy and immediately prior to giving birth AND on a personal note re the wedding once the spots appear the associated ill symptoms should be long past as they present PRIOR to the spots so he may have a few residual spots but he should be on top form by they

if it is chicken pox get him some Nelsons Tea Tree antisecptic cream - works wonders

Miamla · 19/03/2010 14:02

thanks for reassurance girls. i've spoken to docs and they're going to have a look at him this afternoon and give me a blood test to check immunity (mum's not sure if i've had!)

miamla - please don't panic, honestly its only a problem at those points of pregnancy

dizzydixies · 19/03/2010 17:00

right, girls worn out at park and tea on so we're not doing too badly today - just don't mention the housework

miamla - hope all ok with T

oopsandbabycoconut · 19/03/2010 17:10

Dizzy - you have park weather we have grey uninteresting drizzle!

We are out to dinner at 7 with DD's godparents from London it is too late for an already tired DD. I wish they would just accept I am happy to cook and eat here, I know they are being kind but DD will be tired and stroppy and throw food I am tired and will be stroppy with DD. They chosethe restaurant as the food is very 'plain' they don't do garlic, herbs or spices. I fancy a spicey curry made by me at home in my jammies with crap telly and bed by 8! I am ungrateful cow I know.

TwilightSurfer · 19/03/2010 17:10

i think i'm on the upswing! reese and i have both eaten (light stuff) without issue. kinsley only wants ice cold water to sip. nurse said that's fine and is sending her school a lovely doctor's note excusing her from school for her illness yesterday and today. sunshine is GLORIOUS. i plan to pull on a bikini in a few minutes and go sit on the patio. no fear for i have finally showered so not a completely embarrassing site.

miamla reese sported a few spots a week back that came and went. had me fearful at first. no clue what caused them but maybe theo's will disappear the same way.

dizzy excellent ignoring of housework...i'm doing much the same unfortunately.

dizzydixies · 19/03/2010 17:12

oh oops, nothing worse than having to go out when you can't be arsed can you not ask the PIL to babysit P so you can at least have a childfree dinner?

TS glad things are improving/staying down = are you not allowed to excuse her? do you need a Dr's note?!?!?!

oopsandbabycoconut · 19/03/2010 17:15

Dizzy - ILs are coming too and DD sees these people so infrequently I would like her to have some idea of who they are.

dizzydixies · 19/03/2010 17:17

ah right, well fingers crossed many hands means light work - I'd personally feed her at her normal time though rather than making her wait till 7.30 for her dinner - she can pootle about while you eat and take her jammies!!!

D sitting parping away on my knee - fingers crossed DH home in time for the nappy I believe is on its way [bleurgh]

oopsandbabycoconut · 19/03/2010 17:22

Dizzy - great minds - DD has been fed and is being allowed to snack up before we go. Jammies on and hopefully a car to bed transfer later. Hope DH makes it home intime for changing duty.

Miamla · 19/03/2010 17:43

rant time, those of a sensitive nature are recommended to skip to the next post!

well, we're back from the doctors. when we got there, receptionist took us through to one of the spare offices (to avoid contaminating anyone if it was chick pox). A few mins later, receptionist came back in and showed us to the doctor's room. As soon as i stepped in she said 'didn't you hear me calling you?" Erm no, i didn't because the speaker is in the waiting room and i was in an office across the corrider. She told me she was expecting DS to be in there but not me. i politely explained that i thought he was a little young to leave in an office on his own! she then said, right, well what are you here for? I said it was because of DS. She interrupted me and said, i've got you on my screen so we'll do you first. I then continued telling her why we were there (whilst thinking FFS!) So she asked me to show her his tummy (where the worst spots are). so i took his trousers off and while i was doing that she said 'just lift his top, i don't need to see his legs' I explained he had poppers on his vest so the trousers had to come off. She then told me to put him in a vest with no poppers for next doc's visit. Told her i didn't have any so she said 'well buy some!' So she looked at his tummy, asked if he'd had excema before. nope. she told me it was probably just dry skin. Meanwhile she's asking me if i've shown the spots to anyone else. when i said no, she asked why i hadn't especially if i wasn't sure what chicken pox looked like. Erm because everyone's at work. explained normally i wouldn't have brought him straight down but i was worried about my pg and of course it being a friday and not wanting to leave it all weekend. she then asked about the weather outside. think it was blatantly obvious from the amount of rain on me and the pushchair that it was pouring but hey ho. she then asked me again if i'd shown anyone else the spots. prescribed some steroid cream and E45.
i asked her at what point we should bring him back, she explained that if lots more appeared and that they looked like small blisters. fair enough. she then added, but it'll probably be the second or third doctor you see that confirms its chicken pox

so in a nutshell she made me feel like i was wasting her time bringing DS in because he's only got dry skin

oh and i forgot, she said 'oh, what's his name? ? no, i replied She then said 'oh well that's a bit mean giving him such a long name!

we left shortly after that and i don't care how urgent it is, i am never seeing her again! incidentally i've managed to avoid her since my 6wk post baby check when she told me that pain i was experiencing was normal. i beg to differ you stupid woman which is why the next doctor i saw referred me to a consultant

rant over. normal business may now resume!

and funnily enough, i have no intention of plastering DS twice a day with a strong steroid cream on this woman's advice!

Miamla · 19/03/2010 17:44

sorry for essay

TwilightSurfer · 19/03/2010 18:11

Dizzy I'm allowed to excuse her 3 times. 1 of those times I need for when we leave for the beach in May. Since she's pretty healthy I might as well use the doctor's excuse quantity up first. It only required a call to the doc. They'll fax over the note to her school. Apparently the tummy thing is BIG around here right now so they'd rather get calls and send notes than see kids in classrooms spreading the dreaded sickness.

dizzydixies · 19/03/2010 18:16

Miamla - am not prone to really strong language but she sounds like a right fucking arse not only would I never see her again but I'd be writing to the practice manager asking her to explain why you were insulted and frankly treated by an idiot by both their receptionist AND a GP whilst you were trying to do the best thing by yourself and DS (who incidentally are both in high risk groups being an infant and pg female)

and next time you see her tell her to either go and get a decent shag or fecking behave herself

dizzydixies · 19/03/2010 18:24

apologies for rant on your behalf and I AM aware of the irony of my stating I'm not prone to strong language

Miamla · 19/03/2010 18:37

thanks dizz and TS, both made me smile!

why do you think receptionist at fault?

i was considering writing to the practice manager...
