Igglybuff · 29/04/2010 20:11

scout I hope you're ok and enjoying cooking stuff for Seb. He's so lucky to have you as a mum.

I give William milk in a cup - I have a spouty cup but he prefers me to take the lid off.

HT I hope the cake helps Don't worry about the weigh - in. I had a big gap and they didn't bat an eyelid.

fidelma looking forward to the debate too. Although I've got so annoyed with the last two and had to turn it off.

to everyone else!

fidelma · 29/04/2010 20:13

HT I am so sorry that you are feeling so rough. When you get better and if you fancy take a trip to Edinburgh and I will come and meet you for real cake

I would be amazed if it took as long as 15mins for the B word to come up

twinklegreen · 29/04/2010 20:26

Hi everyone

ht hope you start to feel better with the tablets, I take them as well on occasion, it does seem alot taking six in one go. Glad they're working on the asthma.

scout you've done so well to bfeed this long. I think it's always really sad when you stop feeding, the end of an era. You have done it for all the right reasons and Seb has had a wonderful start. well done you, i'll send you a virtual badge x

fidelma I'll be watching the debate tonight as well.

Amelie is over the worst of the chicken pox, she's had them quite bad. Spots everywhere, all over her face and scalp, horrible ones on her bottom, in her eye's and even under her little nails! She's on the mend now though, just hope that's it and she now has immunity, have heard that if they get it when they are under a year they sometimes get it again. ]sad]

Well it's the big 3-0 for me this weekend, dh and I are off to London to see Phantom of the Opera on Saturday, REALLY excited, although I'll be leaving Amelie with my mum and sis for 24 hours so I hope she'll be ok (she has had the odd bottle here and ther but never left her for more than a few hours) I'm sure she'll be fine. Also have heard on the grapevine that dh has bought me a tiffany ring!!

love to all

I'm watching the debate, too. The background makes the candidates look like cardboard cutouts!

lal123 · 29/04/2010 20:42

Hi all.

Scout - know how you feel re the breastfeeding. I'm thinking of stopping soon, but not for a good reason like yours! We'll be going on hols in July and I want to be able to wear whatever I want without haveing to worry about whether or not I can get my boob out of it! Feeling sad - have to convince myself that she still needs me!

Twinkle - the big 3-0 doesn't hurt! Its DPs big 4-0 next week - thats a scary one!

Both DDs are in bed (for the moment!) Maia's being a pain at night, won't settle in her cot and ALWAYS ends up in bed with us. It's my fault really, I feed her in bed at around 1 and then just fall asleep with her . She's eating really well, think she eats more than her big sister!

Scout19075 · 29/04/2010 20:56

ruby Well done on the sleeping! I must admit, I'm of you sleeping. My time will come...sometime...I hope....

twinkle Thanks for my (virtual) badge! Reiterated to DH today, as I stood sobbing, that I still really want one and he should find a way to get me one. LOL (I'm not usually demanding and never expect gifts or events to be noticed, etc., but I'm digging in on this one.)

HT What's been the best thing to take away the evil tablet taste? I'm glad they're doing the job for you, even if they're yucky tasting.

twinkle Yay for the pox healing. Don't know about getting them again, but it certainly sounds like Amelie had them bad enough for immunity.

princessmel Keep taking your DCs as often as you need to. Good GPs don't mind and would prefer you to go in and nothing be wrong then not go and there to be a problem. A GP at our surgery have actually said that to me when I apologized for taking an appointment after nothing was found wrong with Seb.

And twinkle again -- Happy 30th for the weekend! Enjoy your present/s!

Thank you for all of the kind words/support as I start to wean Seb. I think I was just shocked at how sad I felt about it. I know I've done the best I can for him and I that by weaning I'm continuing to try to do the best for him. I'm going to go down the bottle route for milk for a bit, I think. The spouty cups we use have a silcone spout, but it's a different type of spout than his bottle and my boobie (obviously!) and he's still getting the hang of it. If I continue to give him water in his spouty cup I will eventually be able to give him milk in a cup, just not yet. When he's hungry for milk, I need to make sure I get it in him. Will go tomorrow to get a couple of bigger bottles (the one I use for medicine is little and doesn't hold a full feed).

Does anyone have plans for the Bank Holiday/BH Weekend?

princessmel · 29/04/2010 21:35

scout I was VERY upset/sad/guilty when I stopped bf ds1 and dd. And that was after feeding dd till she was 2.4!!!!!! I totally understand.
But babyscout will forget very soon and he already sounds like he's used to the bottle. He'll just accept it that that's how it is now
Just think, now your mum and sister etc can feed him too

BellaCullen · 29/04/2010 21:55

Aw scout some hugs for you.You have done brilliantly to ebf for six months and it can be hard weaning them. But its for the best for both as you need to concentrate on getting better.Youve giving him the best start in life and now you can do the next stage of introducing all the lovely food that is out there.Know how you feel about them growing so quickly Nathaniel will be 7 months next week its getting closer to his first birthday.Just enjoy every day with him. Hope youre brother will be fine.

HT glad the tablets are working and also glad youve only got 2 more doses to go.Weigh-in should be fine I hardly ever went with dd.HVs are always so busy they dont have time to see you all the time anyway.

twinkle have a great birthday weekend and enjoy youre night of freedom.Good to hear Amelie is over worse of chickenpox and dont be surprised if they take a while to fade away.DD had it bad and all over too and they took several months to disappear. She still got some scars on her chest which were really deep as she scrathed those badly.

Ruby glad the sleep plan is all working and am slightly .
Dont think theres any hope for sleep soon.Nathaniel is still ill and was sick last night after a bad coughing fit in bed.Propped his matress up tonight and doesn`t seem to cough too much.DD is also ill with d&v and seems tired a lot since nursery started again.

princessmel hope the rash goes soon and definitely better to go and see doctor rather than regretting not going later on.And not offended about fb at all completely understand.

XXX

fidelma · 29/04/2010 22:35

You can come and join us old birds lol x

littlepea72 · 30/04/2010 06:27

Scout when my DS was about 6 months, i tried to get him off the bottle & onto the cup, the doctor told me not to, she said its always handy to have them drinking from bottle....it was. He ended up in & out of hospital with his food allergies, and when we moved to Canada, the flight was terrible, if i didnt have the bottle to give him, we would never of gotten him to sleep. Plus i gave it to him to stop his ears popping.

I couldnt BF Faith, but i would think having done it for so long, it would be so hard to break that bond, even harder if the baby didnt seem to mind. But you have to do it, for your treatment, and in a way, its good that Seb is finding it so easy, i hope that makes sense You are a great mother, and if i was you, I would demand that badge!! Well done!

HT glad the tablets are working (told you the cake would help )

Twinkle Have a Happy Happy Birthday!!!!!!

Ruby you are now the expert on sleeping how do I stop Faith from getting up through the night??? She has started this as a result of the chicken pox, she would itch & cry, get a bottle with pain killers, now is still waking wanting a bottle....

HT I could batter you for your comment! What do you mean they can get the chicken pox again if they have if under a year??? I cant go through that again! lol

Off to get my DS ready for his fun run today. They run in their years, for him its FS2, but because of his problems with him being hyper etc, they let him run all the races, from FS2 - year 6.....we should of called him Forrest Gump!

HappyTangerine · 30/04/2010 06:57

Twinkle Happy Birthday for this weekend, have a wonderful time in London! Glad Amelie is on the mend, soundslike she had it really bad.

Bella Did you manage to get any sleep? Sending Nathaniel and DD a big hug, hope they are soon on the mend.

Fidelma Oh I'm definately still coming to bonny Scotland, the only trouble is I know I won't want to leave!

Scout Glad you feel better

Leaders debate was good, a lot sharper than the other two. I was waiting for the b word! Can't believe we vote next week.

Joseph had 2.5ml spoon of calpol at 7.30pm last night to help with the teeth, went to sleep at 8pm, woke 40mins later and wouldn't go back to sleep until gone 11. He was drooling and teething really badly, bless him. Woke at 4am (although I vaguely remember him latching on at sometime past 2 but I was mostly zzz). I was a bit wheezy by 4am so glad to be awake. We came downstairs and he's been asleep in my arms since 5. Bloody teeth!

Will try J with some fish pie today, he seems to like these new chewy textures. Can I just ask about Petit Filous-I remember hv saying they were good for weaning but there seems to be a lot of sugar in them?

I'm having breakfast v soon, evil, vile tablets straight after, then back to bed for a few hours. Am going to try and sleep through side effects . HV/weigh in can wait until next week. One advantage of dh's loony shifts-he doesn't go in until 12 today so I can lie in if I want. He says him and Joe are going on another boys shopping trip this morning .

What is everyone up to this weekend? I am cutting my hair short tomorrow then off to Ikea for first time ever. Suspect this may be a challenge-I like to get in and out of a shop quickly and back into wide open space/fresh air asap. Will be having a big declutter over the weekend, blitzing the garden and then off to visit family and a few NT properties and gardens. Weather not forecast to be great for this wknd but we've lots to do.

Might not get back on today so have a good weekend all . Big Welsh cwtch (hug) to the poorly and teething babies x

Scout19075 · 30/04/2010 09:06

Morning all!

Feeling a lot better calmer than I was yesterday afternoon/evening/night. Thanks again for all of the support! My eyes really hurt, though, from the crying -- must be dry.

Seb went every four hours last night, all night, rather than the usual twindling down time between each wake/feed (4 hours then 3 then 2). I don't think my boobs have felt this full in AGES. I don't know if it was the calpol (he had a temperature when he went to bed -- I suspect teeth), the food, the formula or some combination of but I'm not complaining!

HT Seb and I are going on a Guide Sleep Over Saturday into Sunday. His first Guide overnight. DH isn't coming this time (he usually does) because we're only gone about 17 hours. Still amazing how much crap stuff you need for a 6 month old for 17 hours. Other than that, no plans other than house things and packing for my trip.

How are you feeling, HT ?

littlepea I'm lucky that for now I'll still be nursing so when we fly on Thursday I'll be able to give Seb boob. So much easier than faffing trying to get a bottle of formula through security. Not quite sure what Thanksgiving will bring when Seb's 13 months old....

But I'm a lot happier/calmer about doing combination bottle (for milk) and spouty cup for everything else while he gets used to it. He already knows bottle for his gaviscon. I'm now just worried that he'll want to have bottle of medicine and then nurse, which is what he's used to doing. Hopefully it won't take him long to stop if I give him medicine at the same time as formula so he gets used to that switch.

Debate last night was actually good. Well, in that it was more of a debate rather than people standing there looking scared out of their wits. Not sure I heard the b-word -- did anyone catch it?

Meet-up attempt two -- anyone have any date suggestions for trying again?

CalypsoFramboise · 30/04/2010 09:12

{posted message yesterday evening, but I think I pressed preview and closed laptop, doh, so message a bit out of date, but you get the idea }

hello - gosh this thread moves fast!

PM family by the seaside sounds wonderful! Hope rash disappears fast poor little boy and I'm still waiting for Annalise to grow big enough to fit into the ergo, she's still in her stretchy wrap!

HT Asthma is horrid isn't it, hope the meds clear it up soon. Have you started training for the GNR yet?! And enjoy having a hair cut! I love going to the hairdressers, but time/money, I just cut my own hair - bonus of having long curly hair

scout bravo for 6months bf, its a good feeling! Sorry you feel blue about moving on, I bet the next 6 months will all whizz by and Seb will be just fab. Good luck with your treatment.

Ruby fantastic news about the sleep training, I'm tyring to encourage 2 friends who have 9month old babies who both co-sleep with mummy and wake every 1-2hrs still to embark on some kind of sleep training, I told them about your hard work and results and I think they feel encouraged. Ruby is in her own cot/bed though, no? And did you have to put her down awake/crying after her decreased feed times?

twinkle Great news that Amelie is getting better. oooohh sparkly ring! Nice!! Have fun in town

lal hello!

smallone How are you doing? Better I hope? Post news!

Devils are you still there? How's Charlie?

I had the most marvellous day in Tuesday, 5 mummy/baby friends and I/Annalise went for a glorious boat trip down the Thames; Westminster to Hampton court. Had a picnic in the cabin and had much fun. Had a small bit of house envy, love living in central London, but a nice house by the river looks rather smashing :-)

Annalise really seems to be dropping her mid-morning and mid-afternoon feeds, only goes on for about 10-15mins on 1 boob, rather than both boobs over 45mins. Seems like a very dramatic decrease, more than I would expect. Lots of wet nappies so I hope its alright.

Big kiss to rest of thread {:-*}

littlepea72 · 30/04/2010 11:10

HT sorry!!! I blamed you on a comment that Twinkle made....sorry

littlepea72 · 30/04/2010 11:15

I have my date to move !!!! Removals should get our stuff on the 31st May, we get the boat on the 1st, 2nd boat on the 2nd June, and take over new house on the 4th!!! I really cant wait now, oh im off to do cartwheels round the house!!!!

rubyslippers · 30/04/2010 13:22

aaaagh - just typed a huge message and then lost it

anyhoo am that i am a sleep expert!

basically, it is a structure which i have been really strict with. It took a few nights but there has been very little crying

RUbes is in her own cot and always goes down awake. Basically, i feed her at 6 pm downstairs, then we have a bath and story. Into bed around 6.45 pm

i do not feed her before 10 pm. When she wakes before that i leave her unless it is a full on cry - usually it is low level whinging and she goes back to sleep

am very strict. Even if she wakes at 9.55 pm i do not feed her = sounds mad but it is working

TOnight is night 7 and we are down to 5 minute feeds - i use a stop watch . I think because the timing is changing gradually and she has a big feed at 10 pm it has knocked out the 1 am feed very quickly

(within a night basically)

i have to wake her at 7 am as well to ensure she feeds well in the day - i am not so worried about everything to the minute in the day but i am at night (for now)

littlepea72 · 30/04/2010 14:12

Well done Ruby!!!

Igglybuff · 30/04/2010 15:14

I blink and there are loads of messages to catch up on

just marking a spot quickly. Had W's haircut today. He looks so cute now it's tidied.

I'll be back later this eve. In the meantime, I'm going to cast my vote (doing it by post as away) - am feeling radical and might not vote one of the big three.... The debate made me realise that they're all much of a muchness. I'm hoping we get a hung parliament so figure this is likely if more people don't vote for one of the three. We'll see!

Scout19075 · 30/04/2010 17:07

I think Sebby's going to think he's hit the milk jackpot come dinner and bedtime!

Can anyone tell me how long it takes for skipping a feed to cause the milk to slow down during that time?

Igglybuff · 30/04/2010 17:59

Do you mean your boob milk? Are you bursting?! With me it takes about 24 hours for my boobs to adjust....

Igglybuff · 30/04/2010 18:04

24 hours - that was when William stopped feeding so much at night. I think it takes 3-7 days as I was told to drop one feed a week if giving up BF.

Scout19075 · 30/04/2010 19:29

Iggly Yes, boob milk. I've only dropped one feed yesterday and today and I'm feeling rather full today. Didn't yesterday. A bit last night, but chalked that up to Seb sleeping a bit better (read: longer) at a go than usual. HV suggested dropping a feed every 2-3 days, which seemed awfully quick to me! I was thinking 4-5 days at the fastest. At least a week for this first feed while I make sure the formula is agreeing with him.

Igglybuff · 30/04/2010 19:59

Maybe consider speaking to one of the breastfeeding organisations like NCT or Le Leche League who can give better advice than your HV (they don't tend to have great training)? I've spoken to both and they're great. Personally I'd prefer Le Leche as you can email them as well. They sent me loads of info which was really useful.

princessmel · 30/04/2010 20:25

good idea iggly scout The other day when F slept all night, my boobs were like lumpy rocks in the morning. Reminded me of the hell of when my milk came in. God that was PAINFUL!!!!
And when he goes longer than the usual 2 hours they get a bit lumpy too.

F is back to his perky self today and the rash is pretty much gone. He hasn't been this happy since last friday.
The day is so much nicer when he's happy and not a grouch!
He's really enjoying playing with toys at the moment. Very cute

I gave him roasted butternut squash and sweet pot today. He made a right mess! Smeared it all round his highchair tray and sleeves. He sucked a bit of the BN S and seemed to like it. About a half cm sized peice probably went in his tummy

HumphreysCorner · 30/04/2010 20:56

Can't keep up with you all!

30 is so young as I am 41 in October.

Scout-hope the feeding goes well.

Started my Le Leche BF counsellor course today and I enjoyed it. When the course finishes I will be qualified to help new mums BF on the maternity wards. Also met someone I was at school with.

laters!
