This was the only thing I could remember some saying should be the next title!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
EffiePerine · 04/03/2010 08:24

Daisy: you are being lovely and supportive but no reason to cancel all your social life - cd you arrange for your dH's friend to come round for an evening?

JJ: ds2 is also a climber but he has learnt to come down backwards. I think you just have to teach them how to get out of tricky situations! Is there a safe way if getting down from the chair?

Rubena · 04/03/2010 08:25

ok it's working again

LadyThompson · 04/03/2010 09:23

JJ, I would say either make it easier and safer for her to climb (ie by putting something she can step on to) or else move the chair out of sight when she is not using it for eating. I can never get over how adventurous and enthusiastic about the world your DD is, I think it's wonderful though it must be tiring for you at times. I can't really imagine it. My Lady of Disdain is carefully turning the pages of the Boden catalogue, rooted to the spot as usual

Daisy, I do so hope you get to keep your date with your friend - you really deserve a break...

ZJ, my agent does know I used to be an agent as he was DH's agent (and used to be scared that I was going to steal DH away from him - as if! - there's nothing worse than agenting for a relative or close friend). I guess our approaches just differ - I was always firm and clear about what I wanted and I guess that's not everyone's style Also he has an absolute stack of clients and we only had a few. I thought I wasn't very demanding but maybe I am in denial and am in face high maintenance

Oh, and ZJ - aren't painkillers constipating generally? Veggie might know (or Trace) but codeine and paracetamol are I think. Don't know what the active ingredient is in Calpol.

LadyThompson · 04/03/2010 09:26

Ooops, sorree! Must do some work today. And like you, Rubes, a spot of housework - to make the house presentable for MIL at the weekend.

Rubena · 04/03/2010 09:37

JJ can't you just put it in another room, then when you're making her food, just strap her in the chair? Failing that, get a Phil & Teds Me Too - brilliant, and strap her in tight! Then you can just pop it out of the way as its very quick to move and compact

Aubergines · 04/03/2010 10:56

Hi All

trace - I feel for you on the World Book Day pressure. DD1 has to show off her outfit at an assembly we can all watch. We made a gruffalo mask together using brown card and I am now diligently sewing bit of purple cardboard to a black tshirt in order to make purple prickles. Just got to find a tail and I am done.

I am so confused about who is who on FB. I thought it was Tilly that got married. Was it actually Jam? Either way its lovely to see you Jam.

Am off work today as last week's virus never went away and I am now on ABs again. Bit worried as doctor took blood at this morning's appt and sent it off for analysis. Maybe she thinks I have an underlying condition. At least then I would know where all these illnesses stem from. Also my BP is high. Ho hum. Am falling apart aged 31.

Have a fab time in London Veggie!

And I hope those Siberian hamsters leave soon Sybs, but what IS a Siberian hamster????

sybilfaulty · 04/03/2010 10:58

JJ, we had the same problem but the £11 Ikea high chir solved it. Baicaly the wais strap is so tight he ainjt going anywhere...

Just cried on rentokil man. House now full of poison. Am off out as too wobbly.

sybilfaulty · 04/03/2010 11:01

It was Manuel's pet rat in Fawlty Towers, Aubs

Rubena · 04/03/2010 11:21

Oh yes I'm thinking of getting an ikea one too as the dining table is too chunky for the P&T clip on.
Oh Sybs hope you feel better after getting out. I love that FT episode? Did you see the special on John C on tv the other night? He was on my flight once not long ago - lovely guy. I am bored today but need to be doing housework

JumpJockey · 04/03/2010 11:27

(cheeky post from work [tut tut])
re clambering, should have clarified that it's not a problem with her climbing out of it once she's in at mealtimes (as the harness takes care of that) but using the footrest as a step, the harness as a kind of abseiling rope and then pulling herself up to the seat from ground level. She tries to climb into the seat but gets stuck with one leg on each side of the 'restraining' bar and then gets cross and starts flailing... I'd love to have space to put it in another room but our downstairs is one room + kitchen . Rubena that strap on thing (oooer!) looks quite cunning.

Beans33 · 04/03/2010 12:18

JJ - I'm afraid I'm not sure what to suggest. We've only got one room downstairs as well, but DD not walking yet, so haven't encountered that issue as yet...

I've had to come home from work as DD sick again. It's too odd. Maybe it's her teeth as she has got about 5 big ones coming through. I just don't know. But she's not ill and just eaten loads of toast for lunch quite happily. No temperature, playing with her toys and all fine. I feel like I really ought to be at work, but because of the nanny share, I can't really have her near the other baby - I probably would with more relaxed parents, but can't with these guys. ho hum.

Rubena · 04/03/2010 12:52

JJ - doesn't it fold up though? Do you have to leave it out all the time iyswim? Or can't you put it in the other room when she's in the kitchen and vice versa. The clip on ones are brilliant! I use it for all meals at the moment as it's on a bar table in the kitchen and I just sit there and have breakfast and lunch with ds and then feed him dinner there too while ours is cooking. I also take it to restaurants etc and it fits in the bottom of the buggy so we can use it anywhere as he feels more included since it actually hangs on the table (by included I mean he feels like he's closer to the cutlery, menu's wine glasses and candles etc to grab and throw off the table) but I often forget to take it. We haven't got any chairs for our "proper" dining table yet as it's a recent purchase however I want to get some soon so ds can eat dinner with us (providing dh gets home at a reasonable hour) but I think we'll be fine over summer as we usually eat outside in that case and I can take his little clip on high chair out with us.
Beans, shame dd is sick again - bet it is teething. DS doesn't get sick but his cheeks rosy red and his nappies are atrocious not to mention acidic and warrant the Sudocrem to come out again

I need to child lock SkyTV - ds has nearly ordered movies twice now

KiwiPanda · 04/03/2010 12:55

Hello all. Hope everyone is well. Haven't even been lurking so am very out of touch and haven't alas got time to catch up with about 234589279 trillion messages. Work a bit hectic and DD has been ill quite a lot (nothing serious, just teething and nursery germs). Hopefully when fashion weeks are over I can come back to MN properly.

[waves and scoots off again, vaguely wondering if anyone missed her ]

Turniphead1 · 04/03/2010 13:12

Quick hello - eek at the Siberian Hamsters Sybs - should have got the ongoing Fawlty Towers ref! Isn't it rare to have them inside iunless there is a problem with an opening into the mains sewers? Did Rento man give any guidance - maybe it's just the particularly harsh winter.

LadyT - best of British for the course and that agent ups his game somewhat. Laughing at the thought of LadyO leafing away at the Boden catalogue. Can even imagine her post-it-noting the items she is interested in. And sneering slightly at Johnny Boden's "quirky" irriatating comments.

Spothi there!! Sorry you are feeling low. I am in a constant state a guilt about being ratty with all my kids - even my precious L who is now quite a whinger in the late afternoons. It's part of the territory and I try and tell myself that it must mean I am not the worst mother if I am feeling guilty.

Jam good to see you. I too have loved your wedding photos (I am ST on FB by the way...)

Aubs hugs to you too you poorly girl. Glad doc checking it out in case you are run down. Better if he can try and sort.

That's all I can remember now - apart from Effie am thinking of your Mum - hope she continues to improve. And Trace L is like that with books - just flings em! Hope you get inspired for book day (it's a pain in the ar*e in my view...but DD1 wants to go as George from Famous 5 she tells me this just involves a boy's sweater, so am pleased about that!!)

Beans sorry DD is sick again - odd as to what it is and annoying if she is otherwise well that she can't be with nanny. Loved your chinese description.

I am going to Slimming World tonight to try and kickstart seeing the back of my last 10 pounds...wish me luck.

Beans33 · 04/03/2010 13:21

I'm definitely hormonal. Sitting here in floods of tears as have had a crappy email off Beryl from nannyshare about Izzy being ill again - I'm going to copy it in here and see if you think I'm being a twit. I probably am.

"Poor thing. I'm glad for her sake that she seems to be feeling ok. And I'm sure you are worried enough without my comments.

However, from our side, we realise DH and you don't want to be back in the drs surgery without reason, but equally we are keen to find out what might be causing this and whether its linked to the rash.

It does sound like this is specifically Whizzer related (maybe an allergy, I agree) but if there is a risk it is contagious, we are, as I hope u understand a bit nervous. For both Barbara and the nanny, as we don't want her off sick." - names changed again of course!!!

This is BEANS again! I just think they are completely overreacting and had they not behaved the way they have, then I probably wouldn't have even taken DD to the doctor's once recently as I haven't been remotely concerned about her as she is fine in herself. My sister told me not to bother replying to her, but at some stage I need to sit down and speak to her about it and tell them that their behaviour is unreasonable. At the moment I'm doing research into nurseries as I don't want to continue in this nanny share. It's fecking expensive anyway!

Sorry, me me me. Just too cross for words.

Beans33 · 04/03/2010 14:04

Have calmed down a bit now. Sorry - kneejerk reaction and total red mist. Think I need to sit down and have words with them. Grrr.

katie3677 · 04/03/2010 14:11

Beans, I wouldn't give it a second thought. If you need to, lie and tell her that you have taken Whizzer to the Dr and he has said nothing is wrong, it's just a reaction to teething. As her mother, your instincts are more likely to be spot on than anyone else's and if you are happy that she is well in herself then don't worry about it. But I do think you need out of this nannyshare, sounds like a nighmare. 'Beryl' is going to get a nasty shock when 'Barbara' goes to nursery/ school and is exposed to all of those nasty germs out there. IME best to get as much illness out of the way as quickly as possible.

Beans33 · 04/03/2010 14:20

Thanks Katie - wise words indeed - you are a lovely calming star. Thank you! Mustn't get my knickers in a twist about it, but just can't seem to help it! It's a shame as they are actually genuinely nice people, they are just obsessed with their daughter's health. Yes, I agree on getting illness out of the way! While it's horrible, stands you in good stead later in life. I was a right sickly child and am now pretty robust!

Thank you! And relax!

Rubena · 04/03/2010 14:52

Beans, I bet they have a state of the art sterilizer and boiled barbara's cot sheets as well! By the way could you have changed their names to more age appropriate ones lol
why did you choose the nanny share option over nursery in the first place? And if you don't mind, can I ask how much it costs in comparison to nurseries? I haven't a clue as I've been fortunate to have a willing mil however I did enquire at one point and our local nursery was £45 / day and some are £50. By the way, does anyone know what age this free part time nursery deal kicks in or anything about it?

I have shampooed the rug. It' so theraputic I love seeing the water come out black Then I cleaned the carpet cleaner. I swear more dog hair came out than is on dd (dear dog)in total. Aah it's fresh and clean in here now. A little damp though
I had the salad last night so tonight is a chicken stir fry....
off to do some washing, organise dinner and poilish halo
Oh no I hear a little cry from upstairs.... bugger!

Rubena · 04/03/2010 14:53

what the hecks wrong with my ££££££ key

Rubena · 04/03/2010 14:54
Hmm
Rubena · 04/03/2010 14:55

poilish??

Beans33 · 04/03/2010 14:58

Nurseries round us are between £68-£75 per day and a nannyshare is about £100 more per month. So quite substantial. But we thought we'd be getting premium childcare. Which we are. BUT the added stress has undervalued that completely!

I think free part time nursery kicks in at age 3. Not sure though.

Wow, you are a domestic goddess!!!

poisondwarf · 04/03/2010 16:21

Hiya everyone.

Another cheeky post from work. MustnÂ?t make a habit of it, but would never catch up otherwise.

kayz sorry to hear about your troubles at home. Hope you are able to work things out for the better.

Effie sorry to hear about your mum. Sounds as if sheÂ?s on the right track for getting it under control.

Veggie have a lovely time in London. LetÂ?s meet up in Paris!

daisy funnily enough you turned up on my people you may know thingy on fb the other day as well and I have to say you looked all wrong! You are brunette surely! ItÂ?s a shame IÂ?ve met & seen photos of so many of you actually or I could give you a rundown of what you should all look like. I do remember in the early days syb mentioned being blonde and I just couldnÂ?t get my head around it as her old username definitely had brown hair, strong forearms and ruddy cheeks. And sweated a lot over a farmhouse kitchen table.

MaggieMaggieMaggie
Hope you enjoy your course and manage to get some sense out of your bothersome agent. I saw DV the other day (one of LadyTÂ?s cricketers and the brother of one of DPÂ?s friends). I mentioned that I knew you (he asked how so I said we had DDs the same age so I know you through an antenatal group). I was so close to mentioning youÂ?re pg as it seems like itÂ?s been ages and of course you talk about it so openly on here. Then I realised you were actually only 8 weeks and so kept my big gob shut for once. All you pg lot, have you been telling people yet or not? I must admit I told anyone who would listen practically from getting the blue line (except work of course).

jj not sure what to suggest either Â? DS has never been that much of a climber so it wasnÂ?t really a problem. DD is a bit more intrepid but not in the same league as yours! Do you take her to soft play at all? If not, maybe you could try it Â? get a bit of climbing out of her system in a safe environment.

Jam hello, welcome back and congrats on your wedding. How are the LOs?

Beans bloody Beryl. And the poor nanny stuck in the middle like that. I think I would be looking at other options as well, but it does seem like a lot of hassle just for a few months though.

Aube sorry youÂ?re feeling under the weather again. Hope the doc gets to the bottom of it.

rube Beans is right, the free preschool places start at 3. DS will be entitled to 12.5 hours a week from April (15 from September), but the local preschool can only offer us 6 hours. As IÂ?m currently taking the car to work DP will have no way of getting him to a preschool in the neighbouring villages, so itÂ?s a bit of a pain.

wg bfing at night Â? I do it and donÂ?t give it a second thought.

zj DD has never had a bottle but will basically drink out of anything. She is actually pretty tasty with an open cup and I even took her for an M&S babycino the other week. She looked so sweet sipping from her teeny tiny cup holding her teeny tiny biscuit. Honestly, her table manners are better than mine. But she more often than not has a cup with a spout or a straw.

katie yay to the high heels. I have a friend who is 6ft and looks magnificent in a pair of heels. I too am lacking the shoe gene (although I do love SATC, somewhat inexplicably). I did buy some cracking high heels in New Look the other week though, although a) I canÂ?t walk in them and b) I have nothing to wear them for anyway.

Actually I have a similar wardrobe dilemma to katie. Ive been invited to a Footballers Wives party (which sounds terribly suburban 1970s sitcom in the manner of Vicars & Tarts doesnt it?). I am desperately trying to get out of it, but should I fail, what can my outfit be? My budget is around £2.50.

Going back home this weekend as my dad is in hospital (again). He came very close to dying a couple of nights ago. Sounds quite gruesome and he & my sister had to say goodbye to each other as he was wheeled into theatre. Anyhow heÂ?s out of danger now Â? for the moment at least. Apparently he was on the phone to a friend last night and said heÂ?d had his last drink. WeÂ?ll see.

On a cheerier note, IÂ?d just like to say what an utter poppet DD is at the moment. She is just delightful. Her favourite thing at the moment is grabbing a hat (or other object, if no hats are to hand), putting it on her head and shouting Hat! Then she takes it off and does it again. And again. The other night she was wearing just a nappy & hat, legging it back and forth between me & DP doing high fives - IÂ?ve never seen her so overjoyed. Just adorable. She has also developed a penchant for wearing my knickers. She nicks them off the maiden or rummages round for them in the washing machine and is often to be found parading round with several pairs around her neck. Not always clean I might add. Then she will pick up a random item of clothing such as DSÂ?s pyjama bottoms and tuck them under her chin to complete the outfit and stagger sashay around the room.

Oops, manager back from meeting. Sorry anyone IÂ?ve missed (especially big mwahs to spot & Turnip).

When are we having another London meet-up?
