hi all
Big wave to pixsix - feel free to drop in whenever and stay for as long or short as suits. It can be hard to squeeze life in around MN MN in around life sometimes.
Bad mummy stuff...yesterday I was carrying P around, walked through a doorway and whacked her head om the frame - and it's not the first time I've done it . And she won't keep gloves on for more than 3.2 seconds so I loom like a bad mummy even though I try with the gloves!
I was supposed to see my CPN today so left work an hour early, only to get home to an answerphone message saying she was ill so cancelled. I know it can't be helped but I wished they'd rung me on my mobile then I wouldn't have come home early - now I have to make up that hour and find another one to rearrange. grr. Am feeling much better though so I guess that's what matters
mom I still have piles too - just little ones on he outside, then when I've done a poo a whole big load come out and I have to pop them back in (sorry guys for TMI yet again - you can tell I'm a nurse!) We should make a pact, me you and spot to all see our GPs!
Oh P is awake... better go. Night all xx
Oh and hope the meet up was ace. I'm as usual! Pics please

traceface · 22/02/2010 21:53

I'm blaming my keyboard for all the typos in that last post!

Turniphead1 · 22/02/2010 22:49

We have no pics of the night out - but we went to the Marriot County Hall (on the South Bank) and had a couple of bottles of wine and lovely chats (me, Lady T & o, Invisible, Aubergine & Effie) Then we nipped out for a bite to eat, but I am sad to say made Lady T late for her train by one minute which means her DP has to do a round trip of 30 miles to collect her. Doh!! She is in the you know what... It was a lovely evening and great for me to catch up on our thread news after so long away. O, as our token thread baby, was as cute as button.

(My middle child is the only one who will wear gloves I have given up on the girls...)

Kayzr · 23/02/2010 05:28

Morning,

Turnip glad you had a good time last night.

Trace when DS1 was about 5 months old I was throwing him up and catching him. Well stupid me didn't think and I moved slightly and managed to bang his head on the low beam. I was mortified.

God I feel awful. I just couldn't get to sleep. I think it was about half 12 and I have to be up at 5 for work.

DS2 doesn't wear gloves. He just pulls them off all the time.

EffiePerine · 23/02/2010 07:02

Mom: sorry you're having a bad time. Any chance it could be an ear infection? In any case, could you hand over tobyour dh for a night or two and catch up on some sleep? If he has 4 molars I would think less likely to be teeth unless canines coming through? Ds1 def got those later, and the back molars last of all (at about 2).

Sorry LadyT missed her train. So did I. I was a little squiffy when I got back and insisted on prodding dh awake to talk to him. Am complete lightweight nowadays. Lovely to see you all and baby O who was remarkably good.

Boo to the CPN Trace but I'm so glad you're feeling better. Standing up to your HPs on staying at work was obviously the right decision.

I have a day off this week! Getting my hair cut then meeting a friend for a swim and a natter

Aubergines · 23/02/2010 08:23

Oh no! Sorry you missed your trains LadyT and Effie.

It was lovely to see people last night. I was also a tinsy bit squiffy when I got home so I watched two episodes of Greys Anatomy and didn't get to bed until nearly 1am. V tired this morning.

MoM - sorry we missed you last night. It does sound like the crying may be down to an ear infection as you do normally get respite after the four molars are through. Whatever it is I hope it gets sorted soon.

Rubena · 23/02/2010 09:29

Daisy, check www.moneysavingexpert.co.uk as there is something on there about energy bills. We just got our quarterly duel fuel bill which we were expecting the worst and we were right- £568

Sorry to have not made it last night girls but hope to get to the next one. Sounds like you had fun. Veggie mentioned her trip to London so maybe we can aim for that.

LadyThompson · 23/02/2010 11:02

Hello girls, thunderous headache so will keep this to a minimum -

so lovely to see Aubi, Turnip, Effie and Invis last night - actually O was a bit fractious towards the end but in her defence she had only had a one hour nap all day (not for want of my putting her in her cot in my flat for hours) - and also I was horrendously tired myself after having three hours sleep the night before (any of the preggos suffering from insomnia? It is doing my nut in) so if I was less than sparkling, that's my excuse! It's so nice catch up with people. There is never enough time. I need one night out with everyone, one to one, to really hear everyone's news and thoughts! Anyway, DP was really cool about doing the 30mile round trip to Oxford. I thought he'd hit the roof, especially as I could have easily stayed in London (but didn't want to as I was so knackered I needed to sleep on our good mattress in the country I am the Princess and the Pea.

Sorry to those who are suffering with various illnesses and ailments (or their DCs are) - Mom, Pingu, Urbane...

Pixsix, please don't fret about being busy and catch ups and all that. I think if people haven't been on for ages, a quick skim of the last dozen posts really does suffice. It's just lovely to hear from people and so sad when they feel they have to completely disappear because they don't think they can keep up. It's tosh! Just come and say hello. How is your DS doing? Are you back at work? Next time we have a meet up, why don't you pop along? No pressure though.

Trace, it is fabbo to hear you sounding better.

Daisy, I am naughty about holidays and am continually obsessing about where my next one is coming from, but couldn't you just go somewhere and sod the cost? I know that is a daft thing to say but now and then, it must be done. Heating bill is a shocker though.

Rubes, you fell down the stairs? You poor old thing, how frightening. How is it today?

JJ, it's just not right that your DH has such a workload he is having to use annual leave to catch up. It's always the nice doctors in the practice that everyone wants to see! Hope he can make them see sense at the meeting next month...

Oh, and thanks to those who said nice things about my hack journalism

Right, must go. I feel like someone is jiggling my eye with a red hot poker. Urrrrrrrgggggh.

LadyThompson · 23/02/2010 11:11

Oh, one last thing - to those that I didn't see last night, scan all good, 8 weeks yesterday, consultant lovely as always, and apparently I ovulated twice in the last cycle (I don't know how they can tell this from the scan but they can) so I am rather counting my lucky stars that it's just one baby I am expecting and not two. I definitely couldn't manage with three under 2. That really would be the finish of me.

Beans33 · 23/02/2010 11:27

Was that more like the timing you thought, Lady?

TheInvisibleHand · 23/02/2010 11:38

LadyT - glad DP was OK with the drive, very sorry that you missed the train. O was completely delightful and remarkably tolerant of the circumstances she found herself in! No need to apologise for tiredness, we've all been there. Personally I am always relieved after DCs are born as I find the child induced sleeplessness so much easier to deal with than that during pregnancy.

Effie - sorry you missed your train too, but lovely to have met you and of course Aubi and turnip. Sorry for the illnesses etc of those who couldn't make it.

MoM - ear infections can cause absolute misery, but aren't necessarily obvious otherwise, so it could well be it. Sorry you are having such a tough time of it and hope you figure out the problem.

trace - very glad to hear you are feeling much better, but that sounds irritating about the CPN appointment.

TheInvisibleHand · 23/02/2010 11:40

Oh and effie - meant to say on the hot water thing, could you adjust the thermostat on your system to stop the water getting scalding hot? I'm sure that was how ours was set up, but the heating got fiddled with after the cold snap, so now get very hot water and have to be much more careful as haven't yet figured out how to switch it back!

daisydora · 23/02/2010 13:30

A naughty post from me at work!

Am very of the meet. But so good to hear you all had a lovely time.

Trace, very annoying about your appointment

Am now over the shocker of a gas bill, and have negotiated with DH on the holiday plans. We are going to wait a couple of months or so and then see where our finances are at. This is beacuse I forgot that I have a hen weekend planned in May. This now sounds ridiculously selfish of me. BUt it is for one of my best friends, who has been planning this wedding for about 3 years. Besides DH has been on so many stag do's I have lost count and most of his involve trips abroad, whereas mine is only in Chester!

Beans33 · 23/02/2010 14:10

Then absolutely fair enough - these things are a must! Sure DH wil understand.

I've just had som pasta with ham and broccoli and garlic. Happy happy. and M&Ms to follow shortly.

Need a snooze. But think a cappucino from coffee machine will suffice.

katie3677 · 23/02/2010 14:12

Ooooh, so jealous of your meet up. I would so love to meet you all, but haven't even met one of you yet. I will have to make an effort to get to London in the future. Problem is, having lived there for so long and now being so rural I have very little desire to go back. All my friends keep hassling me to come and see them and as I haven't been since I was 8 months pregnant with DD, I really should sort it out.

I've just put an offer in on a house for my parents and am waiting to hear back from the agents. All nail biting stuff for me, so poor parents must be bricking it. They have never bought a house before, so asked me to do all the negotiating, and I have to say it's quite fun playing with other people's money, especially as I will certainly never be talking in such high figures for a house of my own! Fingers crossed it all goes smoothly...

Beans33 · 23/02/2010 19:12

Hi all

Just been to pick up DD and she's come up in another bloody rash!!!! This time she's got a few spots round her mouth and one under her eye. Nanny was worried that it might be chicken pox. I'm wondering if she'd have come up in response to MMR already - will post a pic of it on my page and if anyone can have a guess if it might be the pox, please could you let me know! Although quite hard to tell as photos not ideal. Oh bugger bugger.

Beans33 · 23/02/2010 19:18

PS Although is only on her face - I think she may havve just scratched herself under her eye and have a couple of spots round her mouth. And her sore poos are back. It never rains but it pours eh?

Veggiemummy · 23/02/2010 19:35

It's hard to tell from the photo Beans but it does look a bit like CP. The way to tell is the spots appear very quickly literally before your eyes. Has she been fluey or had a temp in the last 24hrs? The other thing is it could be mini meales which is a benign form of measles that can come up after an immunisation for measles.

Have you noticed anymore appearing? I think it might be best to go to the GP. Has the other babys mum had CP? Either way whizz has already been in contact with her during her infectious period so it doesn't necessarily mean you can't leave her with nanny and go to work. My DS1 was unwell at night when spotty but perfectly fine during the day. Anyway you can get it confirmed at GP. Oh the other option is insect bites, though not really the time of year for it.

Beans33 · 23/02/2010 19:40

Veggie, thanks so much for quick response. I'm going to nurse tomorrow for a quick blood test - might ring them and see if I can take Whizz with me as well. Or get her an emergency appointment. Yes, apparently the spots appeared within about 20 mins. They aren't anywhere else at the moment, though. Will check her out in the morning. The other Mum has had chicken pox, so hoping that'll be ok.

She hasn't been fluey or had a temp, but she has been quite grizzly today, apparently. God, this is what I hate about being at work, is that everything is apparently, not definite, because I wasn't there to witness it!!! Grrr. Mind you, I wouldn't know what it might be without nanny's input!

I know the other mum will be going into panic meltdown about this. Why is it always Whizzer who gets things first??!! Hee hee! Apparently a little girl they had a playdate with last week has come down with CP this week, so it's v likely to be that. Bum!

JumpJockey · 23/02/2010 19:59

Evening all More flipping snow! What the heck is going on? (have given up swearing for Lent which is proving pretty hard, the swear box is fairly profitable even already but it's going to the Haiti appeal so in a good cause...)

Glad you had a good meet up and hurrah for MrT (can we call him that? I pity the fool ) Are we going to manage a Cambridge meetup this year? The botanic gardens are just lovely in summer and the nippers could all run around the trees while we quaff cheerfulness sit and talk about politics.

trace sorry about the nurse mixup, but as you say if you're feeling happier then that's a great thing in itself. I've lost count of the number of times poor dd's head has got dinged on doors, or the roof of the car. They're hardy little things...

Lady blimey what with you oving twice and daisy and her magical wombs, we must be some kind of super-fertile thread [backs away carefully ] Your consultant sounds lovely, it must be great to know that you have someone you get on with really well. We just watched last week's Mad Men and poor Betty with her doctor gadding about at the vital moment...

effie/invis definitely have a look at your hot water tanks, we turned the thermostat down a lot once dd started wanting to put the tap on during her bath , it's on about 50 I think. So still comes out hot, but not burningly so. It's just a dial on the side of the tank, though our system is quite old.

beans poor whizzer, hope it's just mystery spots and not cp. Apparently it's very common for them to get a general rash if they've got a virus (non-specific), it's just another symptom and not necessarily anything dreadful. But obviously best to get her checked if you're worried. There's chickenpox going round dd's nursery at the moment, not sure what the politics is - I can't keep her away from playgroup just on the offchance that she's incubating it, you'd never stop keeping them in quarantine, but then I'd feel awful if she did go on to develop it and we'd been in contact with pregnant ladies/tiny babies. Anyone with older DCs, what's the protocol here?

daisy you must go on your hen do, sounds like you're owed one!

Oooh and Lady re unexpected twins - the sister of one of the ladies I spoke to at baby group has 4 under 3, two babies a year apart and then what she thought would be her last one turned out to be twins

we had another tantrum today, dd woke up from her nap and was just really cross and upset, wracking sobs, didn't want water or milk or food or anything, in the end she lay on my shoulder on the sofa for about 10 mins and then decided all was ok again and perked up. DH though she had a hangover - it was that sort of I just don't know what to do with myself situation!

Beans33 · 23/02/2010 20:08

Oh Wow - tantrums are hard work, aren't they? Quite stressful on the old nerves!

Oh gosh - is CP bad for pregnany women? Or is it ok if they've had it before? Thanks!

x

JumpJockey · 23/02/2010 20:23

Argh sorry beans, didn't want to make you worry - it's only if they've not had CP before, and even then the risks are very little. I'm confusing it with measles

JollyBear · 23/02/2010 20:24

Hello everyone,

Oh dear beans, hope DD is OK. I think with CP they develop a boil type thing in the middle of the spot. I thought DD had chicken pox recently as she got a few spots but they disappeared overnight. It was a bit odd really. Fingers crossed Whizzer wakes up spotless.

If you have had CP then you are fine but I think it is the 1st semester or a close to birth that is causes a problem anyway. I think that is right.

Hello to all the lost lambs returning to the fold, verso, Pixsix, Turnip, PoisonD, sorry if I missed anyone. It is lovely to see you all. I like hearing how everyone is doing.

veggie Glad you are feeling better now. I've been thinking about what you said about DS1 not being confident using his new language. I suppose he doesn't get much conversational practice, at 4 you don't often ask for things in shops etc. So I'm sure it will come in time and he will start correcting your pronunciation!

ladyT Glad the latest scan was OK. Did they try a cheeky guess at the sex?! Were the two ovulations at the same time, did they say?

Whe was talking about sleepless nights after molars, was it mom? DD started getting the fang teeth (technical moi?), almost as soon as the molars came through, I thought we'd get a rest but there was no let up here. She now has 12 teeth and looks pretty much like this . So it might be teeth yet again causing night waking.

trace Glad the dedication went well. Re the poo problem, it does sound like you need to head off to the GP. However, our friend's dad (who has not given birth) once did the same thing when sitting on the bed nude, he only realised he had done a poo when he walked away. Maybe it was a one off?

Talking of lost lambs, has zoe been around recently? Has she gone on holiday or just got busy with life?!

JJ It is really very unfair for your DH to use his holiday for paperwork. I hope he gets the situation sorted soon. It must be really hard on the both of you.

Rubes How are you feeling after your fall?

DD is right on the verge of walking. She took a few steps today without holding onto anything but apparently she took 3 steps at nursery on Thursday . I wish they hadn't told me, it means I missed her first steps. I felt so sad when I read it in her little book. Anyway, DH wants me, must go. Night all.

Beans33 · 23/02/2010 20:26

Thanks for all advice everyone. I really appreciate it. I'm going to have to go now, but loads of love to all and thank you.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

MomOrMum · 23/02/2010 21:10

Okay, I've been watching One Born Every Minute for 30 seconds and I'm already weepy. This is the first one I've seen.

Jolly - Think you're right re: fangs. We got the smelly teething poop today. Joy. I really thought we might get a break from teeth for a couple of months but on we go!

Invis and others - Thanks re: ear infection. It might have been that. But I am hesitant to take him to the GP unless he has a bit of fever, because I know they will just give him antibiotics and I want to give him a chance to fight it on his own first. Hope that doesn't make me a bad mum?! Last night was a bit better, so here's hoping whatever it is is passing.

Beans - Hope it's not CP and disappears of its own accord.

Rubes - Hope you are feeling okay after your fall. How scary!

Sorry to have missed the excitement of the meet up, missed trains and all!

Jump - I was at your DH having to take annual leave to do paperwork. No wonder you and he are suffering from his being overworked!
