Schulte - so sorry to hear your bad news.

Auld - where is your holiday booked for?

I can't believe we are all planning our babies' first birthdays! The weather is getting better and I am having intense seasonal deja vu - so much happier this time round, able to stride around and even little V making attempts to walk. Walking is the key to all health and happiness.
Sounds like lots of you are having tough times. Sending good thoughts to all of you to hang in there and make it through, you brave band of warriors.

A question: I have been using hippy-dippyish Little Me lavender body cream on Veronica but she needs something heavier, I think - she has chapped cheeks and really dry arms and legs (although I don't think you could class it as dermititis, or excema). I have sensitive skin (and very dry too - I wish she had inherited her father's lovely skin!) so although I want something effective, it has to be gentle. What do those of you with dry-skinned babies slather on their dear little bodies?

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 16/03/2010 17:19

gingersarah - Aveeno cream, you can get it in Boots. Very good for dry skin and also mild eczema.

Or Oilatum bath oil.

dawntigga · 16/03/2010 17:21

We use Magic Cream by Avent it's AWESOME.

Schulte · 16/03/2010 19:40

Ginger, get the doctor to prescribe a massive tub of Diprobase cream and use at every nappy change. That's what I do with Hazel.

B52s hooray about the all clear for S's heart! Hope he won't catch the chicken pox too. How is everything else?

DD1 has suddenly decided she's scared of the dark... I bet it's something to do with a book she's read at nursery...

MrsAFlowerpot · 16/03/2010 19:54

We use Olive Oil for A's really dry skin and it seems to do the trick

AuldAlliance · 16/03/2010 20:46

Schulte, DS1 has become scared of the dark quite recently.
I don't think it is linked to any specific book, but to a phase where he is very imaginative and a bit scared of things without really thinking they exist IYSWIM.

He knows there are no monsters or baddies in the house, but I still see terror on his face sometimes when he passes an open, dark doorway without me beside him.

I have got him a nighlight, and he has a torch by his bed.

Gingersarah, we are going to Reunion.
Plane fares extortionate, but two friends are lending us lovely houses and probably a car, so costs will be minimal there.

And it'll be way cooler than Provence. I couldn't face a summer shut indoors with the 2 boys while DH worked.

I am going for 6 whole weeks with the boys.
My mum is coming too for 10 days, so I'll have her to help out on the flight (and babysit while I catch up with friends and have a life for a change).

DH is coming half-way through, for 3 wks. He muttered something about taking out insurance in case he had to work and couldn't come. I told him he'd have to take out divorce insurance if he did such a thing...

Avene is v good, I use their cold cream when the mistral blows and A's face gets all red and sore.

gingersarah · 16/03/2010 21:52

Thanks everyone for the cream advice - I knew you would know.

mrsgboring · 16/03/2010 22:55

Sarah, DH and DS1 both have allergies to lavender scented products. It manifests itself as gradually worsening dry skin/dermatitis so might be worth stopping the lavender cream altogether for a wee while just to check it's not irritating her.

Can second massive tub of diprobase (you can buy it at chemist if you don't think you could get a script for it but you have to ask over the counter). And a friend swears by Aveeno.

Right. Must go to BED.

PuzzleRocks · 17/03/2010 08:24

Hello

Not posting much. Still have two children full of chesty cold.
Right on cue Holly has just yakked up a tonne of phlegm on me. [sigh]

I hope you are all well?

MrsAFlowerpot · 17/03/2010 21:01

Hi all,

Aoife madly teething (can actually feel a tooth now - at last!) and very coldy with on/off slight temperature. But the most difficult thing is in the last 2 days she's developed an aversion to being left alone. As soon as I (or anyone!) step out of the room she begins to scream .

Hope everyone is well and excited about upcoming birthdays - think I'm more tired now than I was this time last year, although kids at school reminded me I was just about to go on maternity leave this time last year

surprisenumber3 · 18/03/2010 11:35

Hi all
Have has so much on lately - am exhausted! Evie has 4 teeth all just broken through at the top, she isn't too happy, looks so sore

Hope we're still all okay for 15th! Will book hotel as soon as I know we're all ok!

PuzzleRocks · 18/03/2010 11:39

Boo for teething troubles.

Is the 15th a definite then? Where are we meeting?

surprisenumber3 · 18/03/2010 11:41

Most people seemed to say 15th was ok

Richmond Park was mentioned? Schulte mentioned somewhere else in Richmond if weather wasn't good.

I'll start a new FB discussion about it!

PuzzleRocks · 18/03/2010 12:19

I'm 100% in. Yippee.

BabyBolat · 18/03/2010 14:25

Hey ladies,

Just spent what feels like hours catching up!!

I am in Edinburgh on 24 April weekend - boo I will miss you Auld!!

So sorry for all the sickness and worry Bicnod and WFH.

Schultes and BeBe so sorry for your loss. I know I am a bit later, but if there is anything I can do.

WFH yay for op!

ooh lot of new cars... we have just bought a Honda FRV I feel weird driving a grown-up car! And I don't know what all the buttons do as I haven''t read the manual yet! K is forward facing too as he hates the car at the best of time (when he is not asleep) so he needs to be able to look outside, see me and play.

ooh lists, I like lists, Kara does A B and C, although he prefers to run around the house with his hands up in the air like a gorilla. Is very strange as he is losing all his baby fat so looks far too grown up! He has it mastered now and now gets up to standing with no help, about turns and ducks and dives everywhere. He loves walking outside but has proper tantrums when he is not allowed to walk the way he wants too (that is on the road!!) We got one of the little life backpacks for him instead of reins and he loves it! Although shoes are costing me a small fortune as he is growing so fast and they are £30+ in clarks! Speech is coming along, his favourite words change like the wind, at the moment there are lots of 'ta' and woof, but he is doing it in the right places (like when he sees the dog next door), Grandad is daddad and daddy is dada or baba, he generally just makes noise most of the day. I am actually finding work harder now as he is such a character that I miss so much more each day.

Hope babies get better soon..

Ginger, olive oil works great for Kara, we pop a bit in the bath occasionally too

15th works for me, if nutty and springs are free I'll bring them too.

We are just planning K's birthday, hoping beyond all hope that it is sunny as we are planning a winnie the pooh themed garden party with easter egg hunts as it's easter sunday too! I am stuck for presents too. DH wants to get him a rocking horse but the one I like is really expensive and I wonder if it for us (to look at) more than for him! What are you all getting your LO's?

Can anyone one with DS's help me with my problem - My lovely little boy wont leave himself alone, as soon as his pants are off or in the bath, his hands are straight to his little worm and flick it around like nobody's business!

surprisenumber3 · 18/03/2010 14:29

Hi BB, lovely to hear from you! Glad you can make 15th, yeah bring Springy and Nutty along too!

Regarding DS's and their bits, you won't stop it I'm afraid! As soon as they find it, that's it!

My DS2 (6) has also started being scared of the dark, or just being upstairs when everyone else is downstairs. Not sure what's started it.

BabyBolat · 18/03/2010 14:44

Oh no, they poor thing is red raw after a bath!!

Oh poor DS2, It's probably just a story or programme he has seen that has made him think about it more. I went through a phase of beigng scared to go outside when I was younger because I heard somewhere that you were more likely to die walking down the street than in an aeroplane! ;)

Yay for 15th x I'll pop over to FB to see if we have times etc sorted...

Bicnod · 18/03/2010 17:50

I'm back from hols and they were fab

Oscar now crawling forwards and enjoyed eating sand on the beach.

Ok, quick attempt at catch up. Forgive me if I've missed anything major...

WFH - hurrah hurrah and hurrah again for your mum's op going well Keeping fingers crossed for lab results now I've read down the thread a bit more.

Tigs - hurrah for sitting, that's how O does it as well - shuffles backwards until he lands on his bottom.

Puzzle - you poor thing what a nightmare, I'm so glad Ellen wasn't in hospital for long this time around. Fantastic about Holly accepting a beaker of cow's milk - Oscar took ages to be persuaded that cow's milk wasn't actually poison.

Schulte - so sorry to hear about your friend are you ok? I know what it's like to lose a good friend suddenly. Oscar's middle name is after a friend of ours who died 2 years ago. If you want to talk you know where I am - sending huge hugs x x

Gui - so glad the return to work hasn't been as traumatic as you feared and that H is getting on well at nursery. I'm on the countdown back to work now (first day back is 10th May)

Bebe - I'm so sorry about your Grandma are you ok? Losing someone you love hurts whether they are old or young, whether it's expected or unexpected. Sending big hugs to you too. There's too much sadness on this thread at the moment.

Auld - O is in a forward-facing car seat now. He loves it and it's much easier to bribe him with breadsticks and blow raspberries at him to keep him entertained on long journies.

Oh, and definitely in for 15th April - can't wait

O not sleeping brilliantly at the moment (now there's a surprise) and I'm increasingly anxious about how I'm going to function when I get back to work.

Right, better go as he's currently creating havoc in the hallway...
