"emigrated by mistake"
What's made you decide to come back? As another ex-pat abroad, I'm always interested into the reasons behind people's decisions to leave/return to the UK...

Gah, not a good night. DD seemed to be sleeping so peacefully when I put her down just before 2100, but my fledgling hopes for a restful night didn't last long. Three hours later she woke for a feed (which was expected and fine) but then proceeded to wake up every 1-2 hours after. [knackered emoticon]

But she's definitely starting to smile, so as I gaze blearily at her through my sleep-deprived state, she suddenly grins and I can forgive her anything.

BabyGiraffes I checked on the box and it say for colics

We had a much better night as DS only woke up for his feeds at 10.30pm / 2am / 6am so feeling much more rested than yesterday

Flying I was told by a nurse to use an anal thermometre if DC suffers from constipation as it 'opens' the passage. I've done it and it does work but put a nappy underneath DC because it quite quick

Tomorrow DS is having his vaccins and I'm nervous about it.

BabyGiraffes · 31/03/2010 13:05

Hey, my little one speaks French! She keeps saying 'heureux' which if memory serves right means happy...
Also was very proud of her yesterday for absolutely beaming at me right in front of the health visitor as if to say, yes, you are my mummy. Also means she's quite forgiving because a few minutes earlier she gave me a very disappointed and shocked look after I had let that nasty nurse plunge two needles into her skinny thighs for her first immunisations... . I couldn't believe the size of those needles and how far in she pushed them!!

sunnybump · 31/03/2010 16:57

The smiles are amazing aren't they! I'm not looking forward to the injectins next week.|Hopefully he'll be as forgiving as your LO!

I got Dentinox branded medicine for Colic in the UK, didn't do much for DS though, I found Colocynth worked much better for us. Got fennel tea today so will give that a go for the wind.

We had a poo-splosion here yesterday morning. I had just cleaned him and removed the offending nappy, had his legs in the air and was reaching for a clean nappy when whooooshhh, a fountain of poo all over the clean babygrow and vest. It came out with some force! After 1.5 hours sleep I was amazed that I saw the funny side.

Had a better sleep last night though, expressing for DH to do a feed is worth it's weight in gold. I found I got a teeny dribble the first morning but the next there was tons, (ok well 2-4 oz), left after DS had finished so am making a regular thing of it when I can. Got some freezer bags too as now I have finally got rid of the thrush (touch wood) I can freeze it for ease.

It's blowing a huge gale here with snow on the hills, feels like deepest winter again!

flyingcloud · 31/03/2010 19:42

Thanks for the tips - the thermometer one was the first thing I tried GF but that didn't work.

If she was exclusively BF I wouldn't worry but I can't help worrying about the addition of one bottle of FF a day (having major guilt about that I keep wondering if I should just continue to BF but I am really not sure it will be possible when I go back to work full-time).

BabyGiraffes · 31/03/2010 21:48

watercress yes, loneliness is a funny thing esp surrounded by two children and a partner... Chatter from a toddler is fun but not quite the same as adult conversation.
I was also today thinking I don't know anyone else with a baby born in February or thereabouts (apart from you lovely lot here on MN). With dd1, by chance a few of my friends had babies at the same time, so there was plenty of sharing and meeting up going on. No such thing this time.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 01/04/2010 09:48

Haha! My DD is saying "heureaux" too! Amazing coincidence!

Loneliness, yes. It's Semana Santa here in Spain so DH has been off work for the week - it's lovely having him around for the whole day. A friend here is giving birth as we speak so I'm hoping for lots of get-togethers with her once she's feeling sociable.

Another fragmented night. Still, at least DH kept watch until 12:30, which meant I grabbed a couple of hours early on. The rest was in half-hour snatches between wind-storms and hunger pangs.

So much for breast-feeding being a contraceptive! I've got my period now. Anyone else ovulating again?!

OP posts:
raindroprhyme · 01/04/2010 11:57

yeah IC i have had a period too.
never happened when i was feeding other DC's. My mum says it must be my age, my body telling me if i want another one i had better do it now cos the clock has started ticking. Arn't mothers a comfort
DS got his immunisations today and i have my postnatal check up. Quite good that they do it all in one at my Doctors saves trailing backwards and forwards. So have stocked up on calpol and am anticipating no sleep tonight.
DS 8 weeks where did the time go.

GuernseyFrench · 01/04/2010 14:44

IC I have had periods too but I'm under contraceptive pill since the start of March.

DS just had his immunisations, it went well. I bought some capol just in case we need it during the evening / night.

flyingcloud · 01/04/2010 16:31

Good luck with immunisations everyone. We've got ours in three weeks.

watercress I got eye drops without a prescription here!

Arrgh! Periods - the one good thing about pregnancy was not having them.

DH and I both have colds and are quite tired and grumpy at the mo. My house has never looked like such a tip.

GuernseyFrench · 01/04/2010 16:46

I just bought gripe water instead of the dentinox to see if it will ease DS colics and winds!

My question is how do you give a spoon full of medicine to a 2 months old baby? This puzzle me a lot

ktpie · 01/04/2010 17:42

Quick hello from me, I've not been on for a few weeks, no idea where the time has gone!

H had his immunisations this week, a rather shocked looking student nurse ended up holding him while he actually had them as I was trying to calm down a tantrumming toddler (we were kept waiting for an hour and he had had enough, so had I). He cried a bit but I gave him a cuddle while the student took over toddler taming duties and he was fine.

Nights are a mixed bag here, the best night was a few nights ago where he only woke up once but things seem to have deteriorated since then and he has been waking 3-4 times.

The doctor gave me the mini pill, is that what you are taking GF? Not looking forward to periods, last time it was 9 months before they started again and then I only had 3 before I was pregnant again, so I've only had those 3 in 2 1/2 years

Just noticed H has a poo leak so I'd better go and sort that out.

GuernseyFrench · 01/04/2010 18:02

ktpie I actually don't know if it is a mini pill as I am under the same (Yasmin) that I was before TTC due to the fact that it took me a while to find a pill that was working/suitable.

flyingcloud · 01/04/2010 19:49

Thank you GF - my gynae asked me what I was taking before I fell pregnant and I couldn't remember (as I hadn't taken it for six months prior to falling pregnant - we had been using natural methods!) - and you've jogged my memory, it was Yasmin.

I am guessing that is the same as the Jasminell that he has given me a prescription for as they look the same

bethylou · 01/04/2010 22:00

DS2 having a crazy evening of non-stop feeding which hasn't happened before so typing one-handed. We got one night straight through from 10.45p.m to 5.45 a.m but generally need one feed in the night now. DS1 went from 10.30p.m till 6.30 a.m at 8 weeks so DS2 has a lot to live up to in the next 10 days! He's now 12lbs 9oz at 6 weeks and at the 91st percentile so should certainly be able to do it!!
Was supposed to go into hospital on Tuesday for small bladder op but I've had it cancelled as I think things are really settling down .
Thanks for heads up re respisense mnitor IC - I've ordered one tonight as DS2 chokes/gags/retches a lot due to reflux and I'm scared of what might happen while I am asleep. I have to ask IC whether you have read much about reflux as the unsettled nights and hours of burping/massage sound very familiar - might be worth a look.
No 'relations' or swimming here yet as my graze hasn' quite recovered and is tender. DH remains supportive/patient/horny...
Meanwhile DS1 is potty training at his own request (and was only 2 yesterday). This has prompted many Anneka Rice-style runs carrying said toddler through public places this week-most amusing! Thinking that breast feeding and potty training are somewhat incompatible!
Have lovely Easter and eat lots more chocolate. Off to bed while going is good as feeding frenzy has finally abated!

InmaculadaConcepcion · 02/04/2010 09:41

DD is up to 4kg now - from 2.3 kg at birth, hoorah! Fewer wake-ups as well, thankfully - 3 hour spaces between them (to me, that's good!)

Thanks for the suggestion bethylou, but I'm pretty sure it's not reflux. The problem lies in the other end of her digestive system IYKWIM. And whatever I do to ease things for her, sadly I think it's something she'll simply grow out of in time (fingers crossed it's sooner rather than later...)

DD has her imms on Tuesday - I'm not looking forward to it, poor little thing...

OP posts:
flyingcloud · 02/04/2010 10:49

Just wondered - DD has her a two hour 'settling in' at the childminder's just after her immunisations - do you think I should rearrange this? Would the next day be better or worse?

Are they generally quite traumatised and poorly afterwards?

She's now pooing on a 36 hour schedule punctuated by frequent farting of the the smelliest kind. It doesn't seem to be bothering her that much but she definitely has a swollen belly after about 18 hours without a poo. Her farts really stink - that must be bothering her a little, especially if they creep up inside the swaddling blanket.

bearcrumble · 02/04/2010 18:29

Flyingcloud I would probably change the appointment - they can be a bit unsettled after imms. - nothing awful, just a bit fractious and possibly with a slight temperature.

I find myself overreacting to any slight health issue with the baby. He seems to have an umbilical hernia and even though I know they are really common and most of them resolve by the time they're 4 it is really upsetting me. When he was crying when I was changing his nappy it was really bulging out and I couldn't even look at it. I feel like an idiot because I know it isn't anything to worry about. Same to a lesser extent when his bum looks a bit sore, it really bothers me even though I know nappy rash comes and goes, and I just need to change him a bit more often and air him to get rid of it. Don't know why I am being so daft.

ClimberChick · 02/04/2010 23:11

OMG feels like years has passed since I had time to read and post. LO is four weeks today and she's already growing too fast. Finally starting to feel like i love her, instead of caring deeply, if that makes sense. She now takes a expressed bottle in the morning (by daddy) so i can get a little sleep before he goes to work. It's nice, but i feel kind of sad that the one job that was exclusively mine is no longer. I also find myself wanting to tell him to wait till she's really hungry so that none of the precious liquid is wasted

Was wondering if anyone out there has experience of a third degree tear. It feels fine, but i'm finding myself paranoid about resuming physical activities and relations... Does anyone know if recovery time is same as normal or if i should wait a bit. Know should wait for 6week check, but thats 2 weeks aways yet. Was a bit naughty yesterday and hit the indoor wall for an hour, though as i so paranoid/scared of falling and over stretching etc, i did the easiest things ever. It did feel good to be doing something of my "old" life.

Have sent off for passport for LO, only took 20 photos to get one that passed

InmaculadaConcepcion · 03/04/2010 09:52

I know what you mean, climberchick, although I don't mind DH giving DD the occasional bottle I felt very twitchy when my mum did - surprised myself by suddenly coming over all possessive.

bc DD has an umbilical hernia too. I think it's quite cute. I find it fascinating that it's such an amazing gurgle button. Gently press it in and you can feel her tummy fizzing...

Best night so far last night - only two full wake-ups between 2100 and 0830. I got 6+ hours of sleep, which is the most since she was born. Feel positively energised!

sunangel88 · 03/04/2010 13:02

Thanks IC. Been having her nap in the sling during the day now for a past couple of days now that I've managed to get the hang of the moby and she's been sleeping much better. Being the worry wart that I am, this means I'm now concerned about getting her into the wrong sleep habit of wanting to be carried all the time :S as the sling is practically the only thing that works during the day if she's overtired.

Going to try putting her to bed in her crib more these days when she's at the right stage of sleepiness. She's currently sleeping with us in our bed and doesn't like the crib - it could be that the mattrress there is too hard? Would love some advice from anyone else also co-sleeping and trying to transition to cot/crib....

FC - I've read that if you mix the formula feed with breastmilk it helps with digestion and constipation. Also if it's just hte one formula feed, it's unlikely to be constipation as breastmilk really helps with that.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 03/04/2010 18:56

Glad the sling's helping, sunangel - check here for advice on sling napping and cot transitioning...

Good luck!

Happy Easter to you all!

Feeding frenzy here, my nipples are about to drop off. That and in laws for 5 days, nice!
