scarlotti, glad to hear that you had a good chat with your husband.
Luckily Paula woke up and had quite a good feed. Now she is lying on the floor without nappy and seems quite happy. Me too . I still wonder where the blood in her mouth came from though. I guess, I really will try more not feeding her at night if she doesn't need it even if it means that I have to play with her for a little while. But hopefully all this activity now will tire her anyway

Fruitpastels · 24/02/2010 19:22

Ursi Re the blood, maybe Paula caught her gum with her fingernail. Glad she had a good feed Chili hot chocolate? Not heard of that one before - did you enjoy it?

Scarlotti Another very talkative 4 year old over here. He gets me in a muddle at times. He was a late talker and it's picked up tenfold over the last 6 months and don't I know it!! Glad you feel brighter about your future with your DH. The old saying goes - the grass isn't always greener on the other side. So maybe just a bit more attention to each other is a good starting point.

My DH is away until Sunday. I'm hoping DS2 will give me some good sleep, or otherwise I will be a wreck by the time DH gets home.

I'm off out next week for my first night with some girlfriends. It's a mid week thing so I won't be starting on the vino.. But I could do with a nice beverage of some kind, I feel like I'm missing out!

Wook We are having 5 mins stints of feeding here. He doesn't seem to bothered by his milk either. I think he's just pretty efficient at feeding as he seems to gaining weight, maybe Hedy is the same?

ursigurke · 24/02/2010 20:13

fruit, I thought she might have scratched herself (as she does with her whole head, very pretty) but stupidly I haven't thought of her gum. This is probably it. Thanks.
Good luck for the next couple of days on your own!

ButterPie · 24/02/2010 20:33

Poor DD1. Her bum is red raw because of the diahorrea and when I just changed her (half an hour after her bath) she screamed and screamed so much I though the police would turn up! Any ideas? She's nearly three and in disposables (I do have washables in the smaller sizes, and terries but no bigger plastic pants - i thought she would be potty trained by now)

She has sudocrem on now, but I literally had to hold her down and drag her legs apart. I felt horrible, but what else could I do?

Of course it doesn't help that Emmeline is being so incredibly clingy today.

Fruitpastels · 24/02/2010 20:43

ButterPie Poor thing. Just an idea, could she have thrush. From experience when I was childminding a little girl, she had bad diahorrea and it made her bum red raw, it became infected and needed treating with canesten cream prescribed by the GP. My 1 yr old nephew has got thrush at the moment after a bout of a runny tummy and it's being treated. Also plenty of airing time without her nappy on once you know she is clear of the diahorrea.

sorry double posted.. my PC had a melt down!

ButterPie · 24/02/2010 20:49

At what point would you take her to a doctor?

Fruitpastels · 24/02/2010 20:53

Does it have a bad smell? I remember the smell being very unpleasant. If it's been going on for a few days and its no better tomorrow you might need to get it looked at to rule out infection. Sudocream is wonderful but might not be strong enough.

ButterPie · 24/02/2010 20:59

It's hard to tell if the bum has a bad smell due to the smell of everything coming out of it.

it has only been going on today, but it scared me how quickly it got so bad.

DontWorryBaby · 24/02/2010 21:01

butterpie have you got any camomile tea? Some cooled tea with a spoonful of olive oil makes a soothing solution to wipe with when changing.

Fruitpastels · 24/02/2010 21:03

I guess see what tomorrow brings. I'm sure you'll know if it's gone passed the normal nappy rash. If poss try and give her some airing time which is a great healer. Hopefully tomorrow it will look a lot better

ButterPie · 24/02/2010 21:07

don'tworrybaby I put a couple of camomile teabags in her bath, she still screamed as soon as the water touched her bum

DontWorryBaby · 24/02/2010 21:16

Aww poor kid. You did the right thing with the sudocrem. If I were you I'd go to the doc's tmrw if she has a bad night. Most important thing is to keep up fluids. Hope she is better soon x

ButterPie · 24/02/2010 21:24

By the time she went to bed I had to carry her as it was hurting her to walk. I've made up my mind, first thing tomorrow I will ring the doctor, unless she has a miracle recovery.

scarlotti · 24/02/2010 22:01

ButterPie hope she feels better soon, poor thing.

wook Ioan only ever feeds for 5 mins, 10 mins max and is gaining weight well and is fine. Now he's bigger I can literally feel the milk being pulled out of me! I did worry about the shortness of time but having spoken to others, he's obviously just efficient.

Trikken · 24/02/2010 22:36

butterpie sounds like a good idea to get it checked out. ds had a really bad fungle (sp?) infection after having diahrroea (sp?) but some cream from the dr cleared it up in a couple of days.

Ninjacat · 24/02/2010 22:54

Wook I didn't really use a recipe for the butternut squash soup. Just softened a couple of onions and garlic in 1tbs of vegetable oil. Added a pinch of dried chili and a couple of teaspoons of curry powder I found in the cupboard then added a diced up squash. Used a bit of chicken stock to cover the bottom of the pan and stop squash from burning and sweated it with the lid on for 10mins or so then covered in water, added a bit of vegetable stock (Bullion is the one I like) and simmered until it was all soft then blitzed it in the blender.
Did the same for the carrot soup but used cumin and coriander seeds instead of curry powder.

Tomorrows soup is Celariac, leek and Cauliflower. - Gosh I really know how to live it up don't I?

ButterPie try these links for working out points www.webmilhouse.com/pointcalc.php
www.minimins.com/weight-watchers-points/122292-points-finder.html. Sorry to hear your lo is in pain. I hope it gets sorted quickly.

ButterPie · 24/02/2010 23:29

Ninja but how do you know how many calories are in something? Do I have to look up every ingredient somewhere?

Meh, I'm rubbish at diets! I literally have no idea how food relates to other food calorie wise. I know cake = bad and fruit = good, but fruitcake? Plus I rarely measure stuff anyway for recipes as I am too lazy, so maybe this whole diet thing isn't for me.

weston · 25/02/2010 07:53

morning all

hope ye are all doing well.. do you realise that soon we will be talking about weaning?!

back from a week in not so sunny spain..abit of a disaster..terrential rain, poor apt with crap facilties..would have been nice in the sun..did have some good bits..kids were very good and got to catch up with folks and mates, thinking staying home might be the new holiday...not to mention the washing mountain that doesn't seem to be dimishing..

can't believe easter so near, time to organise a christening..

scarlotti · 25/02/2010 09:04

morning everyone

Well, we're going back to formula at 10pm! Have done a bf last night and the night before, night before didn't show much difference but last night he was then awake pretty much hourly from 3am
So, off to Tesco today to buy the hungry baby box. Might as well go with that then the normal stuff, am thinking after a few nights of that he might start to get used to feeling fuller and settle easier. It's not the waking in the night that's the killer if it's just once or twice, it's the waking every half an hour for a 3 hours stretch that does me in!

weston hope you enjoyed some of your break, or at least it revived you enough for the verbal diahorrea you'll now have from your toddler!!

Friend is coming over today to take some photos. She's a photographer and wants some baby photos for her portfolio, so in return for Ioan being her model, we get to have some nice professional baby shots
Best go get showered and get him all dressed up!!

Laugs · 25/02/2010 09:11

scarlotti If he's feeding every hour it sounds like a growth spurt. If you can hold out for another couple of days, I think the purpose of the growth spurt is to stimulate your milk supply, so as to provide more milk for their ever-increasing needs. It helps me to think of it this way at least - to feel that it has a function beyond these few awful days. It sounds exhausting though! Can you get a sleep in today while DS1 is at nursery?

Ninjacat · 25/02/2010 09:15

ButterPie I have a book that lists the points and a little calculator that works out the point value if you put in the calorie and sat fat content listed on the packaging.
Most Veg is point free except potatoes, parsnips and peas I think and fruit is pretty low points like 0.5 for an apple, 1 for a pear and 1.5 for a banana.
In an ideal world I'd just make healthy decisions but I don't seem to have an off switch when it comes to food so need a bit of structure. I never go for low fat or diet foods though, I just try to eat less of something.

ursigurke · 25/02/2010 09:42

ButterPie, your poor DD. I hope it gets better soon. Are you going to see the GP?
As for diets. I have no willpower so would never be able to do one seriously. But since I accidentally lost 3kg at the beginning of my pregnancy just because I was off chocolate and ate less in general, I am convinced that eating less is the magical thing to do. Not only smaller portions in general (eating slowly helps to feel when you are actually full), but also no soft drinks (or at least you can try and mix them with (sparkling) water. They still contain enough sugar to taste nice.), reducing sugar in cakes (sometimes you can reduce it up to a third and it still tastes very nice). If I buy a chocolate bar, I always only buy one even if there is a promotion when buying two.... There are plenty of ways to actually reduce your calories without making you feel like being on a diet.
And I agree with Ninja. Low fat or diet foods can even be dangerous. They taste sweet so your body thinks carbohydrates are coming, it's producing insuline and then, as there is an overproduction compared to the actually needed amount, your body demands more food and you might end up eating more.
The thing is, you are getting used to a certain amount of sugar or fat and at first when you reduce it, the food tastes bland but you just have to get used to a lower amount of sugar again.

So, Paula slept better this night. I've got an unexpected 4,5 hours stretch of sleep from 10 to 2.30. I then couldn't sleep for about 2 hours! "Luckily" then Paula started to be unsettled again (I'm never sure if she is awake or asleep) and I took her into my bed... and finally I could sleep Apparently my body can not deal with too much sleep anymore.
But I've ordered a book online about getting babies to sleep better without letting them cry. I'll let you know.

TOK · 25/02/2010 09:57

Oh Butterpie really feel for your dd, poor thing. Hope last night wasn;t too bad for her and that the doc can sort something out to help today.

weston what a shame about the weather, but it is just nice to be away from the day to day chores of being at home. We are trying to arrange a hol for end of June, there's just so much to consider having 2 now!

As for diets. I just don't do them, I have absolutely no will power whatsoever. The best thing for me to do is increase my exercise- which shouldn't be too difficult as I do zero at the moment . Makikng an appointment to see an oesteopath about my leg as the exercises the physio gave me are having no effect whatsoever. Anyone been to one before??

Anya started "talking" properly yesterday, so cute. Whereas previously she would just let out the odd squeal of excitement, yesterday she spent the whole day just babbling away to herself.
