A can fell from the cupboard, travelled 3 feet down and bounced off the bridge of Q's nose before hitting the floor He has a cut on that part of his nose and swelling (white, though?) all around it He seemed happy and fine though afterward. I hit myself there with a full can and it hurt and even when I touched it after that it hurt. Q didn't even flinch when I touched his nose or the cut to clean it after. He must be made of steel!

He also fell and hit his knee in the bath and wanted no more to do with it.

Not a great night.

He is asleep, though. Although I'll be waking him soon just to be sure....

I called a friend who is a pediatric nurse from america and she told me he's probably fine.

Does anyone know if you can get an oral pill for a yeast infection over the counter here in the UK? I have one now and want it sorted asap without a trip to the GP.

50ftQueenie · 25/02/2010 20:46

Yes you can Star but it is pricy, about £12 I think. Canesten Duo. I didn't find it very effective, the pessary and cream were much better. Ouch to poor Q's nose. When DS broke his thumb at 9 months old, about an hour afterwards he was laughing and using his hand with no problem. He'll probably get black eyes and then people will look at you like this.

OP posts:
CantSleepWontSleep · 25/02/2010 20:48

There's a Canesten Oral Capsule which should do the trick star. I think that you can buy it from a pharmacy without needing a prescription.

Ouch for poor Q, but am at the thought of you bashing yourself on the nose with a tin just to see how much it might have hurt!

pepperrabbit · 25/02/2010 20:50

Am i right in thinking that both you and Q now have huge bruises on your noses?

CantSleepWontSleep · 25/02/2010 20:50

It's not 'Duo' is it though 50ft - the 'duo' bit refers to the fact that there's a tablet and a cream.

50ftQueenie · 25/02/2010 20:52

CSWS - You must be on the same wavelength as Star because I didn't realise that she meant she'd done it to see how much it hurt.

Star - Oh you do make me laugh. I would have made DH do it to see how much it hurt.

OP posts:
pepperrabbit · 25/02/2010 20:53

Actually if you all go out together and 2 of you have black eyes it's DH people will be looking at.....

50ftQueenie · 25/02/2010 20:53

Ah, I didn't realise you could get the pill on it's own CSWS. I thought it only came in the double pack.

OP posts:
pepperrabbit · 25/02/2010 20:55

It's almost the same price as the duo i think, last time i bought just the tablet I think it was about £10?

50ftQueenie · 25/02/2010 20:58

That's a good point Pepper!

OP posts:
pepperrabbit · 25/02/2010 21:01

where's star gone - hope she didn't knock herself out??

50ftQueenie · 25/02/2010 21:02

Mr Star will find her later with a tin of chickpeas imbedded in her forehead....

OP posts:
pepperrabbit · 25/02/2010 21:14

Now that would be tricky to explain! Who would believe a woman would knock herself out with her own chickpeas....

CantSleepWontSleep · 25/02/2010 21:34

This thread might make you feel better star.

50ftQueenie · 25/02/2010 21:34

Until Mr Star mentions she's American of course Pepper.

ROFL

StarExpat · 26/02/2010 08:52

at that thread csws!
You are all making me laugh as I read this thread this morning!
I guess it was silly to try it on myself. I don't know what came over me... I knew it was a sensitive area and just felt so badly about it that I wanted to make sure it wasn't too unbearable. But it was! It hurt so much! I also felt that I should suffer, too
He only has a red line on the bridge of his nose that looks like a sort of deep scratch this morning. No bruise, no bump ... it actually bounced off of him and to the floor! I am impressed and relieved that he wasn't horribly hurt.

Are americans notorious for knocking themselves out with chickpeas?

ronshar · 26/02/2010 09:35

If it isnt too late Star you can go to any pharmacy and get a non named thrush treatment for about £4. Sainsbury def sell it as I brought it myself a few months ago. Stupid PJ's!

So when W falls over next time am I going to have to copy him? I hope not as he does fall over alot!

Thank you! I will run to sainsburys at lunch.
lol
come on! It was a very odd sort of injury! His shrill cry of surprise was horrible. I also needed to know if it was bad enough to give calpol. I've never been hit there before. Poor little guy!! He went swimming yesterday with cm. He's having a blast with her!

ronshar · 26/02/2010 10:56

Pistachio, I have also noticed W lack of learning. He bangs his head on the wall, cries then does it again. Boys what a nightmare!

It could explain why as adults they behave like cretins over and over!

50ftQueenie · 26/02/2010 11:04

Yes Ronshar it most definitely would! I think the male of the species has a serious defect there. How male humans have managed to survive without the ability to learn from mistakes is a mystery.

Pistachio - DS is 6.5 but still hasn't learned that doing what mummy asks the first time really is the best course of action for all involved. Waiting until Mummy's turned purple and her head is at the point of exploding it not the best way to have an enjoyable time at home.

Star - Not sure if there is a particular prevalence for Americans to hit themselves with chickpeas, but I suspect that any bizarre behaviour could be explained away by "Oh, she's American".

I am in a terrible mood today, DH is well and truly in the dog house and there he will stay until he does some SERIOUS groveling. It's a long and boring story before anyone asks but it involves drink, work and shouting!

OP posts:
StarExpat · 26/02/2010 11:18

at you turning purple, 50ft!
Oh yes, I agree, that can explain most things away. I loved being able to use "but I'm pregnant". Thank goodness I still have "but I'm american" lol

that doesn't sound so good, 50ft... so what has he done?

50ftQueenie · 26/02/2010 11:42

I said don't ask Star! Got stupidly drunk when he's got a really busy important day today, shouty and sweary in front of the DC because I hid the car key, no remorse for his behaviour, thinks he's done nothing wrong & can't see what the problem is "I went out for a couple of beers with my mates (he was unable to walk when he got home he was so drunk) & thinks I'm "Mental" and "totally over-reacting" (which I would agree with if it wasn't about the 300th time he's done this). He is always vile when he's had a drink and I am totally fed up with it.

OP posts:
KSal · 26/02/2010 11:53

ah 50ft... sounds like my DH... totally incapable of admitting any wrong doing. So infuriating

we are havaing a bake sale at work today (for the DEC Haiti Appeal) - i made the coconut cake from the book and it has had the seal of approval. We're also having a bring and buy sale, which is quite fun.
