Oi! Over 'ere!

I'm using my sick leave well and have just booked a holiday in Oban - we're going to see Balamory and sea eagles, hopefully.

Blimey Kbaby that does sound like a near miss - can't help feeling sorry for your MIL tho, she sounds like she had as much of a shock as anyone.

Spring is a long time, you know. I am not planning on going all out on 21 March. I think we will start once DD has settled into the new room at nursery where they have better facilities for potty training. So probably round about May/June. Would like to start then so as to get it reasonably well sorted by the time we go to France at the end of August. Ponka if he is happy on the potty that way I would leave it - probably quite good for a boy as less chance of missing. Judd - what are you like? Sitting down on the potty with DD. DS was daytime trained at 2.2 which was April. We have started DD with sitting on the potty at bathtime as of last night just to get her used to it. Previously she wouldn't go near it but we soon sorted that (via the jelly tot method).

Kbaby - how scary. I hope you are feeling better now. Have you resolved what you are going to do? Is it the stay with friend option?

DS, DD and I had a checkup at the dentist yesterday. DD is on 17 teeth with another molar on the way. DS has two wobbly teeth. Dentist was very surprised - apparently it is very unusual to start to loose them at his age and more so for boys. DD cried when the chair started to move - but no surprise since she is scared of DS's radio controlled car, a bit wary of the mixer and still not happy with the Dyson. Wuss.

kbaby · 09/02/2006 21:02

hmm maybe ill have to think more about the potty training. At the moment Ive not bothered much as the thought of a baby and a toddler wanting the loo everytime I sat down to feed didnt exactly inspire me. Ill see what DD's reactipon will be in the late spring.

I have to have a amnio tomorrow as my results came back as high risk. Not looking forward to it at all.

Bozza · 10/02/2006 13:01

Oh kbaby I hope the amnio goes well. Will be thinking about you.

Also on the potty front - I would be tempted to leave it in your position because of the toddler/baby scenario. I'm in a different position and just would like to do it when it's nice weather.

Judd · 10/02/2006 13:12

I want to spend the nappy money on mascara and nice coffees! Might try around May-ish.
Don't feel the pressure if you've got a baby on the way. I didn't potty train before DS came along and really didn't find changing two lots any faff at all.

Bozza · 11/02/2006 12:54

Yes I'm after reclaiming the nappy money too! Although DS was trained at 2.2 he was still in nappies at night until 3.6 and that was because of the arrival of DD in the meantime and I couldn't face the idea of stripping wet sheets while heavily pregnant/caring for a newborn.

Judd · 11/02/2006 18:54

We had a wet bed last night - boo. Doesn't happen too often but it's still not great when you're faced with damp child and bed first thing in the morning.
DD has been to THREE parties today. I am whacked (and I didn't even do anything!) She did say that I didn't have to stay for the bouncy castle one ("you can go home and have some Mummy Time") but there was a distinct lack of crash mats around the place so I hovered nervously and ate too many iced gems.
DS has had a lovely day in IKEA with DH, although he did chuck his meatballs all over DH in the cafe and insisted upon crawling instead of walking!

Bozza · 12/02/2006 18:22

LOl at fesity DS, Judd. DS and DD are staying at Grandma's tonight so DH and I are off out for a meal shortly. When Grandma takes off DD's tights she will find her wearing a pair of Cinderella knickers over her nappy. Unfortunately DD appears more taken with the knickers idea than the potty idea - I will have to convince her that the two go together rather.

The house is very quiet....

kbaby · 13/02/2006 14:58

hope you enjoyed your meal Bozza.

izzybiz · 16/02/2006 21:12

hello everyone,
i know i dont say much, but have noticed the potty training talk. have been thinking i might try Dd in the summer, when there are less clothes! she has pooed on the potty a few times, when constipated, but no wees yet.
she seems to know what its for and tells me when shes done a wee or a poo in her nappy, does anyone have a plan of action?
by the way, there are a couple of pictures of Dd on members profiles, shes Isabelle with the bad hair day!

izzybiz · 20/02/2006 14:46

bump

kbaby · 20/02/2006 20:26

Sorry izybiz im leaving it for a while due to baby 2 putting in an appearence this summer. Hopefully ill do it in the autumn

Bozza · 21/02/2006 20:41

Hiya Izzybiz. I am thinking of going for it in the spring some time. At the moment I am just getting DD used to the idea of wearing knickers for a short while a day and also sitting on the potty before bath. When we go for it I will plan a 4 day period (I work Tues-Thurs) when I try and stay at home as much as possible and put her straight in pants and keep putting her on the potty. On next month's shopping list are two packs of 10 pants from Asda. HTH.

Hello everyone else. Hope all the approaching 2yos are good. DD is fine. She has had a busy weekend due to DS's 5th birthday yesterday. And is busy playing with all sort of unsuitable toys such as magnetix and a hot wheels car track with moving parts that I am terrified of her getting her fingers stuck in.

izzybiz · 21/02/2006 20:53

i think thats a good idea, to have a few days set aside for nothing else.
i want to try and leave it as long as i can, i think it will be easier that way, but i dont want to miss the summer!
does your LO say much? Dd says quite a few words now, and will copy what we say, but doesnt say any sentences yet.
am doing CC with her at the mo, she is a terrible sleeper! am sat outside her room now listening to her moaning.

Judd · 21/02/2006 21:12

I switched C Beebies on today and it was the Shiny Show. DS slapped his hip and said "Pat on side?".

Bozza · 22/02/2006 08:40

DD says absolutely loads of words - probably hundreds and is just about starting to put two words together when she can be bothered. But some of the others have children that can talk in real sentences. For potty training you have to combine how ready your DD is with when is a good time for you. I want to get it done early on because we are going to France in August and I want her to be reasonably OK by then. Although I realise we are going to be lugging a potty around all holiday - can't really expect her to manage on dodgy French toilets! I trained DS at 2.2.

Judd · 22/02/2006 13:32

Just snatching a couple of minutes whilst children are finishing dinner. Well, half way through half term and all's well. Everybody happy, fed and entertained adequately (even if they do know all the words to CBeebies!). We are going to Derby for the weekend and then down to Cambridge for a christening. Slightly concerned that DS only fits diagonally in the travel cot. Wouldn't like to have him untethered at night yet - DH gaily suggesting ready bed !

Everyone is so grownup! Diagonally on travel cot my eye! And potty trainig! We are highly unlikely to potty train for at least another 6 months unless DD decides to do it for herself.

Quite grownup sentences tho, still making me LOL. Today she said 'Mummy, this is a horrible noise' about some music I had on ! And I was giving her the lowdown on brothers and sisters ('Max has sister called Emma' etc.) and asked 'does L. have any brothers or ssiters?' She said slowly and thoughtfully 'Mummy is L.'s sister'. Awww.

goreousgirl · 22/02/2006 19:37

Oh you guys are still at it! I've had about a 1 year sabatical - too bleedin' busy with a nearly-two-year-old. I'm so excited, and will try and catch up on this thread over the coming days.

Prufrock · 22/02/2006 19:46

Ooh Judd - do you fancy coming to see Cat and me whilst you are in Cambridge?

Judd · 22/02/2006 21:23

Prufrock - I did think about the Cambridge contingency! However, we are travelling early from Derby on Sunday morning to get to the Christening (je suis le Godmother) and then on to high jinks at Wesley House which is student accommodation right in the centre I think. Don't think I would get chance to slip away as we'll have to make tracks back up to Manchester mid afternoon.
How are you doing anyway? Will your DD start school in September? Mine does, and I have a feeling yours was only a few months younger....April/May birthday?

helsy · 23/02/2006 10:28

Wow -lots happening on here!
I have fixed work so that I get two days off a week with dd2 now - wonderful! It's meant a couple of Sundays and evenings working but that's fine.
It's snowing here. We'll be out there in a minute!
Dd2 is coming along nicely - lots of words like yours Bozza but she doesn't say sentences - sometimes two words together. She is a good communicator though and is loving books at the moment, can't get enough of them. There's a storytime on a Friday in our local library which is nice.

What's the rush with potty training (apart from saving money)? I have Christmas (just before or just after) in mind. Dd1 was 2yrs 8 months.

I put dd1 in a readybed at 3 and my mum found her face down underneath it about an hour later - it had flipped over and she wasn't heavy enough to weigh it down. Took it back and complained to the manufacturer. That was 3 yrs ago, though, they may have changed.

Bozza · 23/02/2006 14:11

It seems to be me leading the early potty training contingency helsy. I did DS successfully at 2.2 so am planning on similar with DD who does seem quite aware but not so keen on sitting on the potty.

Judd I have arranged to give our travel cot away. We hardly use it because both our Mums now have them and we don't go anywhere else! Actually we are hoping for a few days in Edinburgh in May but will probably stay at a Travel Inn type place and book a cot. And plan on having her in a bed by August when we go to France. I'm also giving my pram away. That really marks the end of my baby producing days. Sob.

spots · 23/02/2006 20:57

Oh Bozza Bozza Bozza! Come and see us when you're in Edinburgh! d'you wanna? d'you wanna?
