Oi! Over 'ere!

I'm using my sick leave well and have just booked a holiday in Oban - we're going to see Balamory and sea eagles, hopefully.

OP posts:

Glad you had a good weekend kbaby. Did you leave her with Daddy?

We were harsh with DD last night and left her to cry. It took her half an hour to go to sleep which was about the same as when we went to shush her periodically the night before. But it was pretty awful because she was very upset. So I'm hoping for an improvement tonight.

Is anyone else's LO obsessed by babies (as in the real variety rather than dolls)? Is it a girl thing? DD was craning her neck about 270 degrees to watch a baby in Ikea cafe. Then we went to see her godparents on Sunday who have a newborn and she was very excited. I just had to watch that pointing finger...

spots · 15/11/2005 09:40

Oh dear, poor sleepless sleepers. DD woke last night at 11 and was achingly sweet and cuddly in the dark, asking hoarsely for 'lalloo lalloo' (what she calls her bedtime song) I count myself SO LUCKY that we've never had any big problemns with her sleeping... but we do have another whole baby to bring up next year, so maybe it'll be a whole new experience.

Excellent Judd, your DD and her lovely wee-wee. LOL.

Kbaby, glad you had a good time. I would love to have a weekend away before #2 arrives. Where did you go in Scotland? Probably I'd end up going there...

Bozza · 15/11/2005 19:59

Well we were down to 10 minutes tonight and a lot of that was making sounds like a racing car rather than crying so I am feeling much better. Although DD is going through a very obstinate phase atm. She has decided she knows how the world works and if I do anything wrong she lets me know. Although tonight she had the last piece of a banana and was going "all-de, all-de" and then said "beh beh" and I said "do you want me to put it in the bin, DD" and she broke into a big grin and nodded her head so I think a lot of it is frustration and she was obviously so pleased to have communicated with me.

DH just set off for Hereford but I have loads of phone calls to make which is going to be fun with my cough.

Judd · 17/11/2005 20:20

Bozza - have you seen there's a thread just for you? Started by Figleaf (so you can search, can't do links!) and she wants to know how to play the flour game.

kbaby · 18/11/2005 22:26

Hi I went to edinburugh. What a lovely city.
Yes she stayed with her Dad who said they had fun together although seemed to be putting a gro bag and blankets on her poor thing was probably boiling.
After my alcohol induced weekend I missed my period and have done a test today which is positive. We were trying so its not a complete shock but reality has hit home now.
As its so early im only telling you guys and dh of course.

Bozza · 19/11/2005 13:51

Congratulations kbaby. Good job you managed to get the boozy weekend out of the way.

Now must act all self-important and scuttle off and look for this thread thats probably totally irrelevent by now....

Twiglett · 19/11/2005 14:06

gosh .. so many posts .. so long since I've checked in

is there a quick summary of how everyone's doing

we're fine .. DD is finding her strop which is quite amusing .. I think she's going to be a proper little madame

Bozza · 19/11/2005 14:29

They're all having babies or puppies except you and me, twigs. Unless there is something you are not telling us....

Twiglett · 19/11/2005 14:40

good summary Bozza

no more babies for me .. DH says so .. like its any of his business ..snurk .. he forgets I have access to the sperm bank ..

has Libb been back .. saw her post a bit ago

Bozza · 19/11/2005 14:54

No I don't think she has. I wonder if with her moving out etc she doesn't have much internet access.

I think I've more chance of a baby than a puppy and a pretty slim chance of a baby since I had the contraceptive implant last week. Anyway must go. My bathroom suite that was going to be delivered between 7 and 1 today is apparently 5 minutes away.

Bozza · 19/11/2005 16:17

Well bathroom suite has arrived minus bath panel (can cope with that) and toilet bowl(fairly essential). Of course, "we're just the delivery driver" and no-one answering at the depot. The plumber is due to start on Monday and I was planning on taking DD out for the day - bathroom is next to her bedroom and lack of water/heating. But plumber will not be here all day because of taking old suite away. Dh will be annoyed when he comes home.

kbaby · 20/11/2005 09:42

Bozza I hope DH was ok with the bathroom delivery.

Were still waiting for our builder to turn up and start the extension. Apparently it was too wet 2 weeks ago so he couldnt finish the job he was on.
Well hes had a whole week of sunny dry weather this week so he had better turn up tomorrow.

Bozza · 20/11/2005 20:36

Well DH was annoyed but not with me. He would have regretted that if he had been seen as how it was me waiting in with two children while he was playing golf. What extension are you having done?

Also have you been on one of these websites that works out your due date for you?

Ponka · 20/11/2005 22:38

Oooooh. Congrats Kbaby!!!!

Just a fleeting visit. I've had a quick scan but haven't got time to read in - depth. Sorry to hear about the sleep problems still.

All is fine here. Ikwym about not understanding a lot they say. DS has started saying so much but the sounds aren't exact at all. His best word is "Ma - prrr - prrr" (prrr being the kind of noise a horse makes when it sighs). This means milk. It took us ages to work out that was what he was saying. I think it's a great word and I don't want him to learn how to say milk properly! Sleeping bag (his comfort thing) is Ba - dee - ba. We've tried getting him to repeat sleeping bag and after some time, just once, we got "Ssssss ba - de -ba". I've been meaning to write all this down somewhere. It would be a shame to forget. I'm loving this age.

kbaby · 23/11/2005 21:26

Hi ponka.

Bozza were getting the back of the house extended so that we can extend the kitchen into half of it and have a seating area in the other half. The builder didnt turn up, no surprise.

DD is starting to get quite spiteful and nasty iyswim today I went round some friends with toddlers the same age and she keeps grabbing their faces, pushing them or poking them in the face with a key and hitting them as they walk past. Its not very nice to see her do it and its quite embarrasing as she makes them cry. Telling her off has no effect whats so ever.

spots · 24/11/2005 18:48

Kbaby big congratulations! I know what you mean about the reality check. Edinburgh is my home patch btw, hope you were well looked after there.
DD dropped a bit of playdough today and casually said 'f*ck's sake'. I was taken aback, but it is my fault. I said it yesterday in a moment of rage. I am now really unsure how to get her not to say it again - she did it twice today. I ignored, but it s in her mind now. Oh lordy lordy how the little crimes are visited on us ... She is at c/minder's tomorrow... do I warn c/minder? I just know she will come out with it while we are rehearsing community carols with the Good People of the village... Genuinely, I am worried. Suggestions welcome. Fear that if I hold her shoulders and say 'no' then she will be more likely to say it, not less...

egypt · 24/11/2005 19:32

Congrats Kbaby xxxxx thats great news

eeek, spots. that's a toughy. how old is she? could you have a little word with her and explain how bad it is, and perhaps ask her to make sure you dont say it too. or is she too young?

not much news here. trying for no 2 but i think i am going to have the same probs as before - polycysitc ovaries - so may be visiting docs. twiglett, if you're about. when trying for no 2 did you find the p.o.'s had disappeared after number 1 or was it just the same with no.2? i remember you took clomid like me.

dh away last night and i had a fab night's sleep. dd went from 7 - 8.45 am and i was in bed by 915! sorry for bad sleepers, we too are usually pretty crap, but last night was a rare one-off to be savoured.

anyone heard from cat? or georgina?

spots · 24/11/2005 19:51

I was wondering about Cat as well Egypt, though I have seen G. on the odd thread - Cat was having awful probs with her DD's eating. hope all ok. Also wondering about Libb - suspect hat on the odd occasions she pops in but has too much going on to update us with everything!

um, dd is 18mths btw...?!

Bozza · 24/11/2005 21:11

PMSL at Egypt re Spot's DD's age. I think at this age all you can do is ignore and make sure she doesn't hear you say it again. I'm sure it will soon disappear from her vocab if there is no reinforcement.

Glad you all seem OK. I am grumpy due to second bad cough this month, 3 hours on settee in middle of last night leading to bad back, and now cold symptoms. Good thing is that DH is away so don't have to worry about disturbing him and also cough not as bad because have not spoken to anyone since 7.30. I sem to get a string of bad coughs every winter that end up with part of several nights on the settee propped up. DH and the kids do not catch them to any degree so why do I?

New bathroom all sorted and due to be finished tomorrow. So then will have to decorate and buy loo roll holder etc. DD is fine not much to report on her really. Saying a few more words - like 'get down, 'face cloth', 'door' etc. Also obsessed with her hat and slippers.

Judd · 25/11/2005 14:13

Spots - is it very clear? Could it be misconstrued and laughed off? If not, I would just ignore.
Just to make you feel better, we are sitting on a linguistic timebomb ourselves at the moment. DH was playing with DS the other day and said "Come here, you big gay bear!" (a phrase Jonathan Ross said to Rory McGrath on a TV programme years ago which ALWAYS makes us chortle). As he said it, he heard DD say under her breath "Ollie is a big gay bear" in the way she does when she is committing a new idea or concept to memory. She has also started making up new words to songs, the latest one is her change to One Two Three Four Five. At the end, she sings "which finger did it bite? This little finger right in the middle". And yes, you've guessed that she slowly extends her middle finger at you. Again, she has no idea it is rude, but I know it will happen at Pre School one day (and of course, pre-school is at Church where we are Fine Upstanding Members ).
My birthday yesterday - got a fine haul, even if i do say so myself. DDDDDDDDH bought me a Spa overnight thing with treatments and I can take a friend too! Yippee!
DS doesn't say lots of words yet, maybe about 10. His finest moment so far was when DD sat on his little whicker chair, and he promptly burst into tears shouting "My dair, my dair". ("excellent use of the possessive" I thought proudly....before it dawned on me, that I should give him a cuddle - whoops)

Prufrock · 25/11/2005 14:58

Cat has changed her name, but is still around - and fine.
I am so jealous of all your littel chatterboxes. Ds is still limited to "uh, UH" for most things, though does intoroduce a "buh" when he wants his 2 bears and dog, or a "muh" if he wants milk. He's kind of got "es", but no is still just a shake of the head.
I think (I hope) it's just because his non verbal communication is good - he will go to the cupboard, get a cup, open the fridge and point to the juice he wants. And if I'm not in teh kitchen to get it for him he'll come and grab me, lever me from my chair and grunt until I go with him.

He had his first ever haircut ysterday - sat on my knee. And I cried. It really made him look different and not at all like my angelic baby boy, and brough home that I'm never going to have another baby. .

Big congrats kbaby, and I hope you are getting along OK ponka.

Happy Birthday Judd.

Bozza - hows the arm?

spots · 25/11/2005 18:16

Cat, if you are around in your new guise, do drop in on us... did not know about the name change!

No swearing as far as I know today - couldn't bear to ask c/minder tho I did warn her (without saying it was my fault) It is very distinct, which makes it on the one hand very funny - and situation appropriate too. You now, there are words I would find it far more excrutiating to hear her say - but suppose that's beside the point; obviously wouldn't use those words myself, and the point is offending other people.

bugger.

What's wrong with your arm Bozza? and how's the bathroom looking?

Happy Birthday Judd... can we come to the spa with you?

Bozza · 25/11/2005 20:51

Nothing is wrong with my arm except it has a little rod inserted in it - I assume that is what prufrock is referring to. I had the contraceptive implant and at the time it was very bruised and I think I overdid it with carting DD around and cleaning so it was quite stiff but now unless you feel for the rod nothing is there.

Wonder who Cat is now. Very mysterious. Hmmm. Happy Birthday for yesterday Judd - you kept that one quiet. Prufrock I cannot even get DD's ends trimmed yet. She wears a slide in her fringe normally but is not allowed one at nursery due to her tendency to take it out and put it in her mouth.

Right off to bed now. Still not very well.

kbaby · 25/11/2005 21:03

Happy birthday for yesterday Judd.

DD has started swearing she says 'oh god' each time she said it we said 'oh gosh' so now thankfully she says oh gosh instead. Buggar is a bit harder to stop though. Its not helped by the fact the my MIL says it all the time to her

Ive got a early scan Monday as ive been bleeding since wednesday. Fingers crossed.

egypt · 26/11/2005 17:11

arrrgh!! just realised! sorry spots . was thinking i was giving advice to someone's oldest dd!! .....but you don't have one. hee hee

oh kbaby, hope you are ok. sorry, just put the above in before i read your news. (yes i could cut and paste)....let us know as soon as you can.

feeling sad. dd gone home with her grandparents. (dh's parents) - 50 miles away for the night.

Cat, will text you to find out who you are! missing your chats.

hi prufrock! wondered where you had got to too.

dd is quite good with all sorts of words, basically having a go at anything and everything you say, although most arent that recognisable. luckily no bad ones...yet.
