Oi! Over 'ere!

I'm using my sick leave well and have just booked a holiday in Oban - we're going to see Balamory and sea eagles, hopefully.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Bozza · 24/09/2005 20:48

Oooh Helsy - good luck. Hope it goes well. I know how precious those nights out can be.

kbaby · 25/09/2005 19:42

Cat. I dont know if this will help. My mum says I used to be a terrible eater, infact I was until I was about 20 years old. When I was a toddler i'd go back and forth to the gps due to my weight and lack of appetite. In the end my mother would give me what ever I wanted to eat. If I liked tomato soup then I would eat it 3 times a day until I grew bored, then id move on to something else. The gp said to her that theres nuitrients in a bag of crisps and if thats all I would eat then fine.

kbaby · 25/09/2005 19:54

Weve had a really bad weekend.
I went out Friday night and came home at 12 to find DH up with DD who was crying. She didnt have a temp but was shivering. She cried and was very restless she couldnt get comfy and was only ok if she was cuddling you, which wasnt for long as she kept wriggling. In the end I ended up sitting up in bed with her on my chest until 5am whereby she finaly settled enough for me to just lay her next to me. Shes got a cold now so thats what it must have been.
Shes also been really naughty this weekend, im putting it down to being tired and not feeling 100% she has thrown her dinner on the floor, a yogurt pot across the room and whinged all day.
If she cant get her own way shes either thrown herself on the floor, hit me, or ripped/thrown anything near her. We put her to bed at 6.30 as we could take no more. I hope she feels better tommorow.
Cant remeber who it was but someone mentioned her sleeping. The problem we have is that she goes to bed on her own fine in the evening. We just put her to bed awake. Even if she wakes she does play for a bit before calling us. My mum thinks she just doesnt need the sleep. Im not so sure.

Bozza · 25/09/2005 20:59

Sorry its been so rough kbaby . Hmmm not sure on the sleep one. I spotted your other thread about it btw but had not much to offer. Although I wonder if the offering milk is probably not a good idea long term. But you do need an alternative solution to that I realise. On the naughtiness I would honestly put that down to tiredness - it affects them so much. Although having said that DD has upped a fed notches in terms of naughtiness - hitting DS a lot among other things.

SusiS · 27/09/2005 15:44

hey girls!
it's been a while but have been quite busy. spent 4 days at mil's last week while we had our heating installed! before that we had to get everything out and ready for them to mount it - glad it's over!! but niiiiiiiice warm now

mil was actually quite nice. looked after lucas all the time and i was just instructed to put my feet up

bump is still huge - due this sunday! so fingers crossed i don't go over!
had a sweep yesterday and another one tomorrow - so we'll see ...

lucas is just great and so much fun.
although i do agree on the 'being naughty' front
just recently he started to lie down on the floor if we tell him off something.
and i deffinitly don't like his hitting - no idea really how to get rid of it?!?!?!?

sleeping is good as ever although he's cut out the afternoon nap more and more.
and his talking is coming along just great - good fun sometimes to discover he's learnt another word

hope everyone's fine!

egypt · 27/09/2005 20:10

wow susi! due this sunday!? that's quick. I shall keep an eye out for your birth announcement. very exciting.

Judd · 27/09/2005 20:22

Hiya everybody! I haven't posted for a long while, just committed a bit of lurkage here and there, but felt I must put fingers to keyboard to say good luck to Susi for this weekend! I'll be thinking of you and will look out for your announcement. Has anybody (anybody in authority rather than random strangers) said that this baby will be a good size - only asking coz I think Lucas was, wasn't he?
Here, all is well. We have been on holiday in Cornwall - dh's parents were there too and that made a heck of a difference in terms of what we could do. We went to the pub after dark, went bodyboarding, talked to people...all safe in the knowledge that grandma and grandpa had a watchful eye over our two. DS is saying a very good "bye bye", pointing to most of his bodyparts (and fiddling with an unmentionable one!)and... doing the Storymakers actions ("Imagine, imagine"). We've almost cracked feeding with a spoon but he still prefers fingers and a load of mess.
DD is now 5 sessions at preschool and loves it. I'm going in to play the piano for the singing on Thursday and will have to take DS in with me. I'm hoping he will sit nicely and just join in because he does enjoy music and loves being with big children. Oh well, if I don't try, I'll never know.
Next social event on our calendar is Balamory Live! in Manchester. I'm hoping for an aisle seat so that I can high kick up and down the stairs like Miss Hooley to "Strike Up The Band".....

Ponka · 27/09/2005 21:58

Ooooh yes. I was thinking it might be soon. Good luck Susi. Have you got someone on standby for Lucas for when it all happens then?

Kbaby, DS is also learning about being naughty. He drops to the floor and starts kicking sometimes if he doesn't get his way. I am surpressing laughter when he does that. He just looks so silly and over the top I'm finding it a bit funny. He's started hitting a tiny bit and also banging his head on things on purpose when he doesn't get his own way. Got to nip that one in the bud fast.

Cat. So sorry you've been having all that trouble. It must be worrying. I wish I could say something to help. I'm sure she will be fine though. If you ever want someone to offload onto though, you're welcome to cat me (that goes for anyone).

Helsy, I've just spotted your question from ages ago. I never did make it to the Nottingham meet up. They seem to do them quite often though.

After about a month of pretty much constant diarrhoea and bad nappy rash, we've finally got to the bottom of the problem with DS. Oh dear, unintentional cheezy pun but what the heck, I'll leave it in! He has had Toddler's diarrhoea, a condition caused by an inbalanced diet. He loves fruit and I've been giving him wholemeal bread/pasta etc. and Shreddies every day for breakfast but it was causing the problem. The doctor has told me I need to feed him less fruit and veg and white bread etc. instead of wholemeal because babies and toddlers don't actually need much fibre. I don't know. You try to do the right thing......
Anyway, I took her advice and within 24 hours, the problem had cleared really well.

SusiS · 28/09/2005 09:15

thanks girls

judd: been told she's just below average so far. that was at my last scan 2 months ago. omg, if she was anything like lucas i'd go for a cs straight away

ponka: well!! depends! if it starts off during the day we'll call mil to come down; takes her about 2 hours. but she wouldn't come once it's dark! - if it starts during night i hope i can hold on to her till the morning or if it's really really necessary i can ring my neighbour out of bed! or i might even have to go on my own - oh well, i am sure everything will go just fine

SusiS · 28/09/2005 09:18

ponka great that you've finally cracked the pooy problem!!! it's so irritating when you just don't know what's wrong!

aww cat, don't give up! as someone suggested give her whatever she fancies; even if it's 'rubbish' just for now!! how about jam? doesn't she pancakes? or spicy food? lucas loves anything with garlic
how about milkshakes? or hot chocolate with cream? - gosh, i am getting hungry here
head up girl; you'll get there

cat82 · 28/09/2005 09:20

Hi everyone,

Well it ain't getting any better this end. K is refusing to eat antyhing, and her nappies are terrible- horrible brown slime instead of solid poo (sorry way TMI!) and now she may be admitted to hospital to have some nutriants put into her via drip. We're waiting for the results of a poo sample sent to the lab yesterday and going from there, but the doc says she would be happier if kiera went in. This is so draining At least this is being taken seriously now tho and fingers crossed they may come up with some answers.

Ponka- Thankyou for that CAT offer, it means alot i may take you up on it! Must have been stressful for you as well with the diorrhea, glad it's sorted now.

Susi- ooh exciting! good luck! are you getting excited/nervous?

Kbaby- oh dear, things have been hard for you as well haven't they? Hope it's getting easier now.

Spook is getting on well now, still biting a bit but it's normal i believe he is teething! i have to rub Calgel on his gums! He is beautiful though, we get loads of coments every time we take him out to his socialization classes. He has had his last jab- only 1 more week and we can take him out for walks at last! (it's like having a baby all over again!)

Love to all, hope everyone is doing ok and i'll keep you posted about kiera.

xx

Bozza · 28/09/2005 09:50

Oh Cat to hear that. It must be really worrying for you. Keep us posted on what happens. Don't really know what else to say.

Ponka I've heard about the toddler diarhea before (DS has suffered mildly on occasion). But at least now you've got it in hand and can give him a bit of fruit but not too much.

Susi I can't believe it! Thats gone in no time. Bet you're glad that the heating is done and its all going to be cosy for when the new addition arrives. And I had a big DS followed by a very easy birth for a smaller although by no means small DD. If thats any comfort...

SusiS · 28/09/2005 15:44

oh no cat! big hugs to you )))))
at least they'll do something now and hope the poo sample comes up with something iykwim!

thx bozza - how big were yours?

just been to mw for my 2nd sweep; but if nothing happens by monday they will book me in for a c-section! so latest next friday i'll have my little girl

and oh yessssssss cat. not so much excited; i am quite calm strangly enough. but i am getting a bit nervous now. with lucas and a newborn soon

Bozza · 28/09/2005 15:53

DS - 9 lb 10 oz - 2 hours to push out
DD - 8 lb 12 oz - less than 5 minutes to get out with no stitches - not sure what that says about me mind you.

kbaby · 29/09/2005 21:56

Cat I hope shes better soon. Im not surprise your stressed out about it. At least something may get done now. Does she just refuse to eat at all or drink milk? I supose theres not much you can do really, how can you force a 1year old to eat.

It looks as if the weekend was just a blip. Shes been back to normal this week in fact she woke last night and just sat in the cot talking to herself. The conversation including 'poobear over there' 'Poppy(the cat)get down' and 'Mummy' mentioned a number of times but I couldnt work out the rest. oh and lots of giggling. Sounded lots of fun what ever was going on. DH this morning said that maybe she wasnt alone[scarey sound insert here] think hes been watching too much haunted on living.

egypt · 30/09/2005 12:59

bbbrrrrrrrr kbaby! have you been watching that new series - afterlife? brrrr

she's a little chatterbox isn't she.

so sorry to hear that too, cat. does she drink milk at all? just thinking about nutritious milk drinks. not sure what there is available. may be something your doc/hv can suggest. kind of like a non-slimming slimfast iykwim.

i darent mention it, but dd has had 7 sleep throughs in a row. this is a first. we usually have a 50% per week success rate, but this week has been a wonderful 100%. she's even happy to go in her cot in the day, and is there now, although not asleep, just chatting and burbling. nothing coherent, unlike kbaby's babs.

Bozza · 30/09/2005 21:32

Great Egypt. and you too kbaby. We are currently running at about 85% but the one wake up night each week has been horrendous. Babysat my friend's one year old today for four hours and it was incredibly easy. DD loved it and because it covered lunch and nap there wasn't all that much entertaining to do. I had to make them both climb up/down stairs on their own with me ready to cath either of them. And I put visitor in the travel cot in DS's room (he was at school) and they both slept two hours.

kbaby · 02/10/2005 14:37

I wonder how SUSIS is.

Took DD to a fancy dress party today, She went as a pumpkin. She didnt seem to enjoy the party. I dont know if its because there were so many older kids running around.

Weve had 2 sleep throught this week also, Nothing like Egypts though. Im keeping my fingers crossed for you that it lasts.

DD has a new word. She is facinated by Pooh Bear and has now learnt who eore is. She calls him O ee. Like eore but pronunced with the 2 sylabels the wrong way around.

SusiS · 02/10/2005 19:09

nothing to wonder really
i am due TODAY and not a single incywincy sign!!

going to the hospital tomorrow and discus the next step!

Ponka · 04/10/2005 08:30

How's it going, Cat? Hope everything's O.K.

Bozza · 04/10/2005 10:12

What happened at the hospital Susi?

BlackCat82 · 04/10/2005 15:30

Bah, test results came back normal. I just want some answers!! it isn't like i want her to be ill, i just want someone to say "this is what's wrong, and this is what we do to treat it"
Still we are off to the docs this afternoon and see where to go from here.

Susi- what's happening? are you a family of 4 yet?

Sympathys to everyone still suffering sleepless nights with little ones, i am so unbleivably thankful for kiera sleeping so well, it makes everything so much harder when you're tired doesn't it?

I'll come back later and let you know what's happening.

(BTW who likes my hallow'een name? )

helloween · 04/10/2005 20:09

Ooh, Susi, any news?
Cat, I know what you mean about just wanting to be able to put your finger on something.
Dd2 hasn't been sleeping and - guess what - another tooth! Catches us out every time - she has three sleepless nights then we see a tooth, and we're always surprised!
Got to go, she's screaming and my shepherd's pie and glass of wine await.
It's Helsy, by the way

SusiS · 05/10/2005 05:50

saw consultant on monday who told me that bubs is not even engaged yet shocked face - and today i'll go to the hospital to get my waters broken. IF POSSIBLE that is - and then take it from there. but if it's anything like last time (very slow progress) i might end up with an em.cs anyways. if they can NOT break the water i'll get a date for a cs anyways. -
if i'd knows all this before i'd have gone for a planned cs in the first place and didn't have to go through all this!!!!! -

on the other hand dp stayed home last night to come with me to hospital today (obviously) - he also is getting very annoyed, frustrated and nervous me thinks - can relate -
oh well, she's got to come out!!!!!!!!!

AND mil moved in today!!!!!! aaahhhhhhh - well, she's allright but still, there is just things you can't do like you normally would ... iykwim! - told her yesterday to stay put till she hears from us what consultant said but did she listen?!?!?!? - the only 'good' thing is she'll have to leave by sunday because she'll go on holiday on monday

SusiS · 05/10/2005 05:51

awww cat, totally understand what you mean! any more tests outstanding? hope they'll find what it is ((((((((((cat)))))))))))

and well, lucas is fine with sleeping but bubs keeps me awake
