Hi all!
I asked about swimming lats week and was advised to wait till after the jags at 16 weeks. The staff at the pool have no regs regarding it, but say you should ask mw/hv/doc.
Jardins - my friend suffered with that after her birth and had a terrible time, so my sympathies are very much with you. I really don't know anything that will help, but just take any advice that's given. Best wishes with your dh's work issues x
I also don't like giving a dummy and only use it at night to placate Cara - I feel I/we should find other ways to calm her during the day.
On a bf front, I have managed to latch her on my least favoured side in the normal position! I have been using the rugby hold since she wouldn't latch on at the start, but only just thought of trying it traditionally a couple of days ago.
She had her jags on Thursday and was really good, no ill-effects at all. She was also 2oz under 3lb more than birth weight at 8 weeks, so I was really pleased.
As for all the talk of another baby...if I wouldn't have to pay money back to work, I would have another one tomorrow!
Despite being 1-1 1/2 stones over my pre-birth weight, I managed to get into the bridesmaid dress!!! Cant sit/bend/breathe tho...
Hope you all a good weekend xxx

CantThinkofFunnyName · 08/03/2010 08:22

Lottie - you don't know me from Adam but I live in Barnet, N London and have a whole room that you and the girls could use - complete with cot and a travel cot. Olivia is still in Moses basket with us. You would have to sleep on bottom bunk of a bunk bed though ! Also - you would be v v welcome to leave the girls with me while you go out. You're probably going right now as we are only internet buddies - but the offer is there and it meant sincerely. It would do you good to go out . Hey, make a long weekend of it and enjoy yourself!! Sunday roast is the norm here, plus the odd glass of vino !!

crumpette · 08/03/2010 10:18

vino mmmm

yeah lottie come and hang out in London for a bit you deserve a break! If you bring the girls I'll join CTFN in babysitting duties, would be fun! Twins on a plane though- yikes! well even if you don't bring the girls I think you deserve some party time.

No news here, currently having to wait in for yet another contractor type to inspect the giant leak from roof into wardrobe, also a huge crack has appeared in one of the walls and we pay full extortionate rent of more than my full monthly salary (pre-maternity leave) So basically I am seriously unimpressed!
tssk

Baby did the screamy thing again last night, started at 9 and went on til 12 so an hour less. Tried everything. Don't know if I shoud be concerned or not, it's a bit of a high pitched encephalopathy scream which troubles me greatly but then he is fine and bright as a button in the day.. could this be the infamous colic?! aah

CantThinkofFunnyName · 08/03/2010 10:55

Crumpette - get Infacol!! Seriously - sounds like colic and it will make the world of difference. If poor little James is in pain (which it sounds like) you're all he's got to help him. If in doubt, visit your GP - but they will probably say to get Infacol and see if there is an improvement. My DS had colic - I was a single mother at the time with my own mother in hospital having suffered a major stroke. I know just how traumatic it can be and spent many many nights pacing the sitting room trying to make him feel better. Infacol helped. Didn't take it away - but was a marked improvement from when I didn't give it to him.

sazlocks · 08/03/2010 15:10

afternoon all
jardins sympathies on the piles front (ouch) and for your DH. Hope it gets sorted out for you soon.
quirkychick at your MIL comment
lottie - even worse to be going through such horribleness with twins - what on earth are DH work thinking of !
crumpette sympathies on the screaming front. Another vote for infacol here as DS1 was like this and infacol sorted him out. The other thing you could try is fennel and peppermint tea yourself and see if that makes a difference.
All ok here and have managed to get both kids out and about quite a bit. Its getting less daunting every time I do it. Feeling much better recovered after my c section. Very, very, very fed up that DS2 has another cold already and he is not even 6 weeks old yet. Another present from DS1 !

Had Olivia weighed today and she tips the scales at ............. 9lb 9oz! I really thought she might have hit the 10lb mark, but no, still diddy for 10 weeks old tomorrow! She has just dipped off the 9th centile which doesn't surprise me given how little she was feeding for past couple of weeks and amount she's been sick, but not much to really worry about - it will all come right in the end I guess.

I've managed to get a couple of pics of her smiling so have uploaded to profile.

Other than the above, all quiet on the western front. Most disappointed I shan't have Lottie as a guest - was looking forward to an excuse to open a bottle and have DH babysit !

However, will deffo be on for meeting up when you do make it over.

mistletoekisses · 09/03/2010 07:42

Morning all!

Lottie - I am greater London, in Surrey, so would love to also do a meet up if one is organised! And can I just say that you wont be a fat blob! I went out with my chelsea gals on the kings rd/ fulham rd when DS1 was 12 weeks old. All I got were comments on how great I looked for having a 3 month old DC and every man in the place slavering over my ample bosoms...made me realise what it must be like to have implants . So how are things with your DH?

Crumpette - defo try infacol. It takes about 3-4 days to start working. The baby doesnt ingest it, all it does is coat their digestive system and help gas collect into one big bubble and come out. DS2 does some corking burps on it. Those who are using it...when do you plan to stop?
Re. the dummy interefering with bfeeding, I have heard about nipple confusion, but both DS's have been fine with dummy/ bottle once a day and breastfeeding. I had also read that sometimes crying like that (could be mild reflux) is helped by sucking a dummy. Helps the baby produce gastric juices that calm their tummies.

CTFN - Hope all well with you. Will have a looksie at your pics once I post. I have Nico's first set of jabs today. Is at GP's so dont think he will be weighed today. May go to the clinic this week/ next week for a weigh in.

Hope everyone else ok. Have moved backwards on the night feeds the last 2 nights. Have had to feed DS by 2am both nights as he wasnt settling. But after that feed, am not feeding him until after 6am and stretching him out then. Think he may be smelling my milk at that time. My mum arrives tmrw for a week, so may ask her to see if she can resettle minus a feed at 1.30...that really is the first feed I want to drop.

Cloudy grey day here today, but heading out to library with my two boys for some rhyme and book time! Have a good day all.

mistletoekisses · 09/03/2010 08:11

CTFN - your pics are lovely!!! First time I have looked at them! What a lovely family!

Meant to say re. the weight gain...Olivia looks a lovely smiley, happy baby, and she will be absolutely fine. DS1 has had none of the HV checks - height, weight etc since he was 12 weeks old. At the 6 week check they made worrying noises about the low centile he was on - not growing fast enough. At the 12 week check, he had moved up two centiles - cue lots more worrying clicking sounds and shaking of head - he was now growing too quickly and I had a 'problem I needed to keep an eye on'. When I asked what I could do - he was a breastfed baby, feeding 3 hourly during the day with only one nightfeed, they couldn't give any advice. I told them to stick their head shaking where the sun didnt shine and didnt go back.
All children are different, so I always take the guidelines with a pinch of salt. We grew up without all these checks/ guidelines and seem to have turned out ok.

alibobins · 09/03/2010 09:13

ctofn your pics are lovely Jacob is just bobbing along the 9th centile too everyone says how dinky he is but to me he feels really big.
Getting him weighed again tomorrow then first injections on thursday.
Can't believe my baby is 3 months this week time is flying by.

Spoke to work reguarding hours when I return and they have agreed to me working 3 days (yipee) I can not imagine going back full time. Not going back until September and between Sept and Dec I will have 4 weeks holiday to take.

Got to catch up on some cleaning today Jacob was a little grumpy bum yeaterday and I got nothing done x

quirkychick · 09/03/2010 09:35

mistletoe my dd1 lost loads of weight initially and put it back on very slowly by 6 wks. Then she jumped up several centiles at 3-4 months back to where she was. She too was breastfed. Are they using the right charts?

londonlottie my mil is well known for bad turns of phrase. I had a bad bleed when pg with dd1 awaiting a scan to see if I was still pg, she told me I wasn't feeling any pain because "I hadn't aborted it yet" . Sil was undergoing tests for infertility and was told she could always adopt.

We have pooed after a few days, a bit brownish and very smelly. Lovely.

alibobins well done sorting out your work. I woud like to go back part time..3 days a week.. if I were to go back part time in Oct do you think I woud be entitled to full year's annual leave accrued as full time when on mat leave? I should know this but my brain has turned to mush! I was thinking I could then take a day's leave a week or more, meaning he could gradually get used to it. I kind of hate my job but right at the end just before I left I started to enjoy it and I need to stick at it really training-wise. Time seems to be flying by, have already used 2 months maternity leave up !

alibobins · 09/03/2010 11:10

Hope James is okay today must be really worrying for you and I'm sure the gp wouldn't mind seeing him just to put your mind at rest x x

You should be entitled to all your leave as you are still classed as working full time up untill the time you return. How long have you got left on your traing? I'm thinking of topping up my degree but don't know if I would be taking on a bit too much.

Forgot to say for the last two nights Jacob has only woke up for one feed at 3am he then stirs at 5 but I sush him and we get up at 6.30 I feel so much better although a little concerned as it means he has dropped a feed and only having around 18/20 oz milk.

mistletoekisses · 09/03/2010 12:18

crumpette - i would get to the GP. If a small baby vomits - they can dehydrate quite quickly. DS1 did this a few times, both times at night, i called NHS direct and they told me to take baby straight to out of hours GP. They play it on the safe side when DC's are under 6 months of age. I imagine that James is absolutely fine (DS1 was everytime). But a GP never made me think i was wasting their time.

OP posts:
sockmonkey · 09/03/2010 12:32

crumpette - yes give your GP a visit, or even just call & see what they think. I do remember DS1 doing that mass of vomit thing, I really just didn't know what to do, and stood there with the both of us covered in milky vomit, wondering where on earth it had all come from. I always flap a bit when it comes to sick. Good job DH was home to help!

CTOFN - lovely smiley photos!
Ali - ooh sleep, tell me is it good? I have slightly forgotten what it's like.

Think we may be hitting the 6 week growth spurt, as she was up every 1.5 hours last night. Zzzzzz.

Hello everyone else!! Right, off to get bub weighed.

jardins · 09/03/2010 14:13

Crumpette if it can reassure you Angélique had a couple of incidences of projectile vomiting last week too which I HATE I was told that as long as it didn't happen regularly wasn't cause for alarm. Maybe James is going through a growth spurt and his digestion is adapting too? My LO is clearly growing and since the vomiting days she is having fewer but mega big dirty nappies.

Quirkychick I am outraged on your behalf at your mil's INSENSITIVE remarks. Some people are unbelievable.

Fraochs I thank you for your kind words re my sore parts!!! I had it with both my other DC but familiarity with the problem does nothing to lighten the pain. At least I'm eating the right things (mostly) to prevent constipation.

I also want to thank you all for your supportive words re my DH's job situation. *Londonlottie I share your fustration as we too upped and left our cosy existence in Normandy and moved to Touraine for work. I must say I left a pretty rich life to come here as did my 13yr old DD. Sounds like your DH's boss is acting like the nutter we have here. The lawyer reckons we have a good case for harrassement although it could take years to come through although we are highly likely to win. The stories I could tell you. One will suffice, I think, for you to understand. On the day of Angélique's birth my DH received a call from his boss asking him to call his girlfriend immediately (she is the company's accountant)as there was a problem. My DH called, which tbh he needn't have done considering we were both in hosmital and his DD was 1 hour old. ANYWAY the accountant girlfriend demanded he call the client in question immediately to solve the problem to which my DH replied 'do you know where I am?' as she had given no indication of interest concerning the labour, birth, etc NOTHING. She replied 'yes, I know exactly where you are', to which my DH said 'I'm afraid I can't call now', to which she replied: 'THANKS FOR LEAVING US IN THE SHIT' and hung up on him.

jardins · 09/03/2010 14:15

Sorry for all my mistakes: am typing with one hand!

quirkychick · 09/03/2010 20:08

jardins I think your dh's work and mil could link up! Some people are beyond selfish. Mil doesn't even discuss dd2's DS now-perhaps that is just as well .

Sorry I can't type in bold with one hand.

CantThinkofFunnyName · 10/03/2010 10:50

I have just received a formal apology and refund from LA Fitness' solicitors after my counter claim last week! Feeling particularly pleased with myself. Don't mess with the contract queen!!

On a baby note, Olivia still incredibly sicky despite changing her formula and today v clingy and grizzly. Lots of one handed jobs scheduled for today.

quirkychick · 10/03/2010 16:26

ctfn congratulations on your refund from LA Fitness. Now you have to think of something nice to spend it on to reward yourself. Hope Olivia gets better it might take awhile for the new formula to take effect, do you think?

CantThinkofFunnyName · 10/03/2010 16:46

Worked out that Olivia hadn't opened her bowels for 2 days but we had a breakthrough (literally) this morning ! Been a much happier girl since, although still quite clingy. Oh well, we'll get there in the end I think. Quiet today?

MissMarjoribanks · 10/03/2010 17:48

Hello everyone - I haven't been on for a while as been a bit miserable, and as my issues were nowhere as severe as some others of you on here, I felt like I would be a bit of a fraud having a moan. Basically, I was starting to feel very lonely and isolated, but with a kick up the arse from DH and my mum, I went and did something about it and I feel tons better.

Can I admit what here though? I went on Netmums Meet-a-Mum. I now have a new mum friend who lives just round the corner and together we have been really courageous and have been to every activity going. We are doing Under 1s club, Buggy Fit, Rhythm Time, Rhyme Time, all sorts. And I have been for coffees and lunches and even got in after DH yesterday.

Oooh and I went to the MN Manchester meet on Monday and had a great time.

Thomas is now 3 mo old! Where has the time gone? He is having his second set of jabs next week, which I am not looking forward to as he was very grizzly and unsettled after the last lot. At least I can give him Calpol this time. Developmentally he is still way behind his actual age but is smiling (finally) and today he grabbed a rattle for the first time. He is still tiny though at 9lb 6oz.

Now to catch up with the rest of the thread.

Newbeginning1 · 10/03/2010 18:52

Hi everyone

Sorry (again) that we've not been around, DS is being a big grumpy bum and very high maintenance.

crumpette - how is DS now? I agree with everyone else around getting him checked. I go into the drs room and start by saying im sure im over reacting but....They always reassure me that its the right thing to do

quirky - they say ignorance is bliss and maybe thats the case in your MIL's case. Still, it's definitely not right IMO.

londonlottie - sounds like you're having a tough time with DH's work along with jardins I agree around the whole feeling like a fat blob, my particuarly leggy skinny blonde friend is here to stay and she's looking all glamorous and im wearing big sizes and im still in my maternity jeans I refuse to buy another pair of jeans in a ridiculously large size.

MissMarjoriBanks - i'm glad you're feeling better and getting out with other mummies now

ali - well done for shushing Jacob and getting him back to sleep, DS has none of that

CTOFN - next time i have an issue ill get you on the case to win it for me!!

I got DS weighed today and at 10 weeks he is 13lbs 6ozs. I'm worrying he's going to be a bruiser when he's older with the rate he's going!! We are however expecting a mammoth poo sometime soon (TMI sory) so im sure that accounts for a lot of the weight.

Fraochsmum · 11/03/2010 09:45

Lovely to hear you are feeling better MissMarjoriBanks, it must make you loads happier to be getting out and about. Glad Thomas is coming on too - it's just brilliant when they smile!
Ctofn, love Olivia's smiles! Well done with the gym too.
Cara is doing well, had a growth spurt yesterday and spent 2 hours feeding last night (which is nothing compared to the mammoth 4 hours some of you experienced!). However she did sleep for 7 hours solid afterwards! When I picked her up this morning though her entire top half was soaked with sick She had burped, but just must have had so much milk. She is now 9lb 3oz at 9 weeks, 3lb up on birth weight, so I'm really pleased.
I'm going to aquanatal again today, our HomeStart offer a free creche to the under 6 month olds so the mums can go post-natally!
Have a lovely day all x
