Hi all

Not been on for a while, enjoying snuggling lo too much. 3-4hrs in between feeds up to 6hrs at night, but also having a few screaming episodes between 5pm and 10pm feeds, have found giving 1/2 an oz of food extra seems to help. Also using infacol, bubs hates it but seems to relax her a bit.

Hope everyone is ok I will read previous posts and catch up with the gossip. Congratulations to everyone whos had their babies. Is that it or is there anyone else to go???

sockmonkey · 17/02/2010 08:30

DD is 3 weeks old today! Does everyone else feel like baby has been with them forever? It's hard to remember what life was like before.

Managed a trip to the Post Office yesterday... get me! LOL. DH had the pram in the boot of the car, so had to try sling for the first time. I've got a Calin Bleu wrap sling (which I won in a MN comp!!) It was actually quite easy to do. Might try another trip out this week, I think the boys might be going a bit stir crazy stuck in the house.

Does anyone else's LO seem to time cluster feeding in with when meals need to be prepared & eaten? I started making pancakes at 5.30, and finally got to eat at 8.45.

somewhathorrified · 17/02/2010 11:50

ctfn I'm actually doing feeding every 3 hrs followed by playtime, then nap...how wierd is that! I'm finding it;s not really working out tho, am going to try a tweek for the next day or so of feed, sleep then play as I think it's more natural for them to sleep after a feed rather than after being worked up from playtime...fingers crossed.

sazlocks · 17/02/2010 12:14

hello all - just wanting to keep my place on the thread. Falling through the days at the moment. Is it just me or is that feeling fairly normal with a 3 week old bubs ? DS2 has horrible cold and not shifting after a week. Waking up lots as nose all blocked up. Feeding lots which is a good thing as hopefully will be back at birth weight soon and will help me to shift my mummy tummy . He was awake for 3 hours last night from 3 - 6 with wind, blocked nose, general unsettledness. Lovely DH has taken DS1 out for a couple of hours and I have been napping.
Now will catch up with thread - hope all ok.

CantThinkofFunnyName · 17/02/2010 12:37

Morning everyone. Back from doctors with Olivia complete with Gaviscon infant powder! He seems to think she does have reflux after examining her tummy and thankfully, it was feed time whilst I was there so he witnessed scream, wriggle and puking! He also thought that the sound her tummy made when milk hit it was odd so he has referred to paedeatrician. Funny thing is that her tummy did that from day one - wonder why hospital didn't pick it up? Sickness is increasing too - now loads of feed coming back over the course of 3 hours between feeds. Also he said it is more common in prem babies, early babies and section babies as a thingiemibob in their digestive area hasn't formed properly!!

So - all good, have medicine and a referral, watch this space.

Right - DH has taken DSS and DD1 off to Tower of London, DS is at a football camp so it's just me and bubs for remainder of day! Alas, postnatal DVD is awaiting me plus preparing dinner and at least a hoover of the sitting room .

Hope everyone else OK?

alibobins · 17/02/2010 13:25

ctofn glad the doctor listened and you now have the gaviscon x x how are you giving it as the doctor told me one sachet in 40z milk but Jacob dosn't drink that muc and i'm waisting so muc milk also as he feeds more than the 6 doses i leave it out his night feeds as he seems okay with these x x

Off to hospital for another check up on Dd's eyes so fingers crossed x

maygirl · 17/02/2010 13:37

Hi everyone.

vegging with DD today, my bp is high and I'm forced to do nothing but snuggle! Midwife sent me to day assessment yesterday to see a doctor about it, it was unbearable, we were there over 5 hours for a few BP readings, we'd had to take DS1 with us, poor thing, he was so good, but 5+ hours in one room for a 3 year old is not good
Docs kept having to go and do c-sections, and then even when they had made decisions about me hadn't passed on to midwife, so notes just sat in a pile. Finally a registrar decided was going to admit me for 24 hr obs, onto the postnatal ward. As he was unsure whether real bp problem or just due to lack of sleep/doing too much post difficult csec. I queried how a night in a room full off screaming newborns and tearful new mums would actually give a true picture. So he changed his mind and sent us home, at ten pm last night with instructions to see gp today. Still high-ish with GP this morning but he doesn't think is a problem at 8 days postnatal and happy to review in a week. don't know what to believe now- dangerous or not, and the duvet day I was enjoying yesterday was ruined with wasted time at hospital

DD lovely, took a few days to relax her after her stay in scbu, she was a tense ball of fury! Nice and laid back now after lots of mummy cuddles

BF going ok i think, though she's much more difficult to latch on than DS was. I got no support with it in scbu, in fact was undermined for insisting.

Hope my bp sorts itself out as I really cannot face setting foot in that hospital again!

Apologies for huge rant!

Hope everyone ok

CantThinkofFunnyName · 17/02/2010 13:57

Maygirl - what is your BP reading? Mine was very high too post c/sec and the MW kept a check on me for the full 10 days post and it has continued to be high. It's not considered dangerous however, but I do have to have a check in another 4 weeks time and if still high, they want to put me on BP tablets for life .

Ali - I have been told, like you, to put one sachet in a 4oz bottle. Olivia is also not taking 4oz anymore (only had about 3 days of her taking 4oz!) and I'm wasting loads of milk too. I keep making up 4oz hoping and praying and coercing her to take more, but the norm at the moment is 2oz. However, she has just taken 3oz out of the 4oz bottle, the first with the powder in! We had a lot of screaming and protesting at first, but I persevered with lots of sssshing and patting through the feed and got there in the end .

mistletoekisses · 17/02/2010 15:52

Hi all!!

CTFN - hoping the gaviscon starts to help little Olivia soon!

Maygirl - did I miss your birth story? I didnt realise your DD ended up in SCBU...if you need help re. the bfeeding, there are heaps of bfeeding helplines where a bfeeding consultant will come and see you. Post on the bfeeding/ bottle feeding thread if you have questions, Tiktok is a bfeeding counsellor and gives very good advice. to hear about your lack of support in SCBU.

Ali - how is Jaocb doing? Hope your DD check up goes well.

Saz - my days are blurring into one another at the moment. Nico is 6 weeks old tomorrow, cannot quite believe it.

Hello to everyone else! Sorry for not replying to other posts.

newbeginnings - we x posted yesterday. how are you doing??

The infacol is definitely helping nico btw...brings up wind far easier and is more chilled...

OP posts:
crumpette · 17/02/2010 18:17

Hello glad that Nico is more chilled mistletoe and CTFN, hope Olivia gets on with the gaviscon!

So, James is back to his screaming best! Screams at night, is an angel in the day, starts screaming at about 9pm and continues until past midnight, usually goes to sleep at 1am, argh! He seems to be in pain, won't feed, won't lie down, will only stop scrying if I walk around with him on my shoulder. But the rest of the day and night he is fine... haven't tried infacol etc with him yet but it's now a daily occurence.

Other than that, I too am having the days blur into each other, it's very weird and hazy at the moment! I can't believe he will be 6 weeks old on Sunday (still not registered but I have an appt for next week)

More smiling from him which has been nice, and he is more interested in his playmat and things which again is good. I'm still bleeding rather profusely ... haven't been to GP but I am starting to think you're right and I should as it is so heavy and is now about 2 weeks, and my original bleeding definitely stopped. I imagine it's fine but I feel pretty exhausted and I want lots of chocolate!!

Dreading tomorrow, having a visit from my mother and sister. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh! Wish me luck. We do not get on! Still haven't met with colleagues/friends yet despite their repeated requests, I seem incapable of meeting up. It's less about dp at the moment and more that I can't quite face the real world yet, it's really bad! I need to kick my backside into gear and reply to them

maygirl sorry to hear about your BP and BF worries. Sounds like the hospital were rubbish, you need positive support. Post any queries on the breast&bottle feeding section where tiktok is a genius.
My BP was very high after the birth as well but I haven't been checked since I was discharged by mw, strange as it was higher than it was at the end of my pregnancy! I hope it all works out OK for you and you don't have to go back to hospital

alibobins · 17/02/2010 20:37

Dd's check up was really positive her eyes are still stable (yipee) although they have made her prescription stronger x x

Jacob is still really poorly and tonight he is tugging slightly as he breathes so going to pack a small back incase we end up taking him in

crumpette good luck for tomorrow

maygirl · 17/02/2010 22:31

Hi BF going ok, just not as easy as with DS, I have to really work to latch her on correctly as she has a shallow latch. I did see a counsillor before I was discharged. The hospital does have a v good bf clinic, where they pick up the pieces after bad starts on the postnatal wards!

Haven't posted my birth story yet mistletoekisses, cannot face writing it down yet But DD turned breech during an emergency csection (or was always breech??)and they got her bum out but took ages to deliver the head, had spinal and on back so she wasn't getting enough oxygen and it took a while to get her going, apgars 5 and 7. I didn't get to see her in scbu until 4.5 hrs after birth, I got her out with me the next afternoon.

Not caught up with thread properly yet but I'm sorry to hear about the babes with tummy problems. I hope the gaviscon powder works for Olivia CTOFN My highest BP around 140/100, but had lower readings ~ 130/80 too. Had one v high 160/100, but had accidently taken pain killers too soon, lunch was late and was really woozy when the midwife arrived! Reduced my pain relief alot since then and cut out ibuprofen altogether. BP was fine after birth and during pregnancy, started rising at day 3. Meds for life- eek too, I'd better start back on my healthy lifestyle then... all my relatives have high BP so genetically at risk, though I do usually have a much healthier lifestyle than them!

maygirl · 17/02/2010 22:35

Hope you can keep jacob home tonight alibobins Just had a look at your pics, he's so cute xx

maygirl · 17/02/2010 22:41

I have a lactaline flyingma, what was your question re the diaphram?

Mama2b5 · 18/02/2010 00:24

hi all - never got to post but im so enjoying being a mummy again! its really been good for me! i decided to take the DCx3 and also LO to the "cinema" yesterday and he slept from 12 to 4pm so all the way through driving to cinema through "princess and frog" movie and then home only when he heard his dads voice did he stir whilst i removed his coat!even then he wanted to sleep but i wanted to feed him!

im goin back to read the posts i missed!
he is 4 weeks today my gosh!!!!!!

flyingma · 18/02/2010 00:32

maygirl the diaphrams on both sides seem to be doing different things. One side pulsates gently, not changing shape and the other gets scrunched into all weird shapes. What is it supposed to do?

mistletoekisses · 18/02/2010 07:50

Morning

Crumpette - hope all goes well today with your sister and mum. And re. the going out, believe you me, I have not ventured any further than the docs or waitrose with DS2.
The weather is putting me off, but then I also am taking time to rest and getting one nap in a day when DS naps. By the time I then get everything else done, the day has whizzed by! Plus, having just fed through a growth spurt, I have had boob engorgement again for the last day or so...ouch!!! So am having to hand express before DS feeds as letdown is way too fast and milk sprays across the room. So not really conducive to popping out to see the boss.

Mama2b - yay on getting back into pre pregnancy jeans, tis no mean feat. Had managed that with DS1 by this time, but have not even tried this time, I know I am carrying more weight!

Maygirl - sorry if i touched a nerve re. the birth story. . We are here when you feel ready.

Ali - hope Jacob was ok last night and great news on your DD!!

Well last night was our hardest yet. Nio has caught DH's cold, cue sleeping on me all night! Roll on summer!!!

OP posts:
mistletoekisses · 18/02/2010 09:43

Am feeling most proud of myself. All ironing/ washing/ straightening that needed to be done is.

Sorry, had to share, is first time I have been on top of it all since DS was born! off to now waste my time on AIBU!

OP posts:
Newbeginning1 · 18/02/2010 10:08

Ali - how is Jacob doing?

Crumpette - hope things are ok with the family. Would your work friends come and see you, it might give you a break from your OH.

CTOFN - how is the gaviscon working for you?

Mistletoekisses - How is Nico now you have started Infacol? I've started Jack with it but he still gets frustrated at his wind and writhes around.

The HV came round yesterday to try and help me with bfeeding but im sure she is spawned from the same evil breed as dentists. She's had a go at me because Jack doesnt associate my boob with food apparently hes associating it with comfort and therefore thats why he's not having a full feed and settling. Once again shes told me to leave him to get himself to sleep if im confident he's full but its so hard because hes so tiny. I'm at the end of my tether with it all and really considering giving up bfeeding and moving to formula but i know i will regret it. I'm going to an NCT meeting today to get some advice and ive got a different HV coming round tomorrow so fingers crossed things get sorted.

DS's father is meant to be coming round to see him later so beware there's likely to be a rant later on especially as the CSA have decided he needs to pay £7 a week for Jack but his daughter gets £50 a week, thats fair isnt it?!

sockmonkey · 18/02/2010 11:09

maygirl So sorry you had a rough time. Hope BP gets back to normal so you can enjoy being a mum.

Not much to report here. I've lost my voice today. I half promised to take the boys out today but still feel really rough, and weather is cr*p. Poor things are getting bored though. May see if things improve this afternoon.

verycherry · 18/02/2010 11:20

Hi all

I did post v occasionally on antenatal thread and have lurked there and here. Have finally got a few mins to actually post something!

Ds4 was due 09/01/10 but decided to arrive on 30/12/09, planned homebirth but all went a bit too quick (15-20 mins) and ended up being delivered by dp with paramedic arriving halfway through! Was actually great, fully expected it to be v quick and did actually think he would arrive before anyone else so was not shocked at all, dp was rather taken aback though.....

Anyway just wanted to say hi and that this thread has been great in terms of not feeling like my baby is the only who cries/screams and is generally grumpy alot of the time - not that I'd wish it on anyone else but I don't feel so alone!

Ds - Luca - is on gaviscon for reflux (ds2+3 had it also) but am bf'ing so bit hit and miss about giving it. He is v unsettled most evenings so am quietly waiting out the next few weeks til he gets a bit better

He is currently asleep in a sling whilst I type this, but is an utter bugger at going to sleep - as in does'nt v much and hardly ever on his own. Am keeping fingers crossed that when he grows out of this unsettled phase I'll be able to show him the way....

Hope all and babies are well today.

I would be completely nutty by now if I had twins, think you are doing a sterling job!!! Will be back later to post properly, have to get ds3 dressed and go to my mad grans for lunch with all the boys, but it does sound like she may have reflux - I think its fairly common and a maturity thing - well I am really holding out hope for that!!

ds3 screaming at me now, he is 2.5 and has mild cerebral palsy which means he is not walking am just off to negotiate getting him dressed whilst Luca is strapped to me......

Back later, hope the girls are good for you today.

alibobins · 18/02/2010 12:51

Managed to stay at home with Jacob and got an appointment at docs this morning the gp has given Jacob an inhalor to have morning and night and a prescription for nutremigen milk

I've really had enough I just want to lock myself away I can't stop crying I'm so so so fed up

quirkychick · 18/02/2010 13:08

Oh, alibobins just wanted to send you (((hugs)))

Dd1 has bad asthma and has an inhaler, there is a good chance he will grow out of it as apparently it is because the airways in lungs are small in children/babies so they can become inflamed very easily. She was also allergic to cow's milk too.

Both dds have conjunctivitis this week so it's eye drop city here chez quirkychick.
