Sept 08: last year they were cute little bundles that smelt of milk and vanilla, but now they've been replaced with a babyzilla!

A new thread for us as the last one was running low.

bec your plan doesn't sound crazy and you never know when your dream house might appear. What's available could change quite a bit between now and when you actually sell.
And when you buy again you don't have to take a new 25 year mortgage, could just get a 15 year one.

We had good success growing potatos, onions, rocket, carrots, rocket, peppers, tomatoes, lettuce, rocket, rhubarb oh and did I mention rocket? last year all in tubs except the rhubarb. The rhubarb we bought as a small plant a few years ago and it's done brilliantly. Dh dug it up and moved it with us. Salad, carrots and onions were grown from seed. Tomatoes & peppers from small plants.
We got our garden cleared the other day (25foot overgrown hedges and huge piles of garden waste so was so worth getting a man in to do it) and discovered there's 3 decent sized veg patches already set out. Just need a good dig through and some compost mixed in and they should be good.

Met the childminder for a coffee this aft. After skirting around the issue a bit we had a good chat. She apologised for stressing me out and is going to try not to talk/moan to me about childminding & money stuff as I said her talking to me as a friend about it all was making our professional relationship awkward which was then affecting our friendship. She's going through some other stuff too which I hadn't realised was as big as it is so I'll try to be more sensitive too. So it'll all be fine I think.

Impressed by your gardening hopefully and debi! I tend to be too much of a wuss to go out in the cold and damp to garden - I'm proud of having used the washing line twice this weekend! . But have grown potatoes two years (second year was an accident - didn't dig them all up first year!), and we have a lovely cherry tree which has been pruned to sensible size and more branching after 20 years neglect. And we now know they're edible so will try to get them all before the birds do.

A hasn't screamed nearly as much last couple nights - I think he's been waking but only just, so he gets scared by anything after an initial being OK. So desnotted him as much as possible before bedtime. I was getting worried mostly because he was hurling himself about so much he was hitting his head on the wall of the cot. But tonight he woke, I cuddled him until he calmed down and decided to reach for his milk and then dummy, and then he was asleep as I lay him down again.

Have managed to get him to walk up to 5 yards in a direction of my choosing! We went out for sunday lunch today and he was lovely for 1 1/2 courses in his highchair, but then tried to climb out (no straps) so we then had to take it in turns to walk about with him and make sure he wasn't in the way. Or stealing cake off people at the coffee tables!
He wants to go outside all the time, so keeps going up to doors with glass in and thumping on them and trying the handles. And stropping. His ability to focus on one issue for hours will I'm sure be useful when he's older. He's fishing everything out of bins all over the house so I've put them up on high shelves or got rid of them, and I'm checking the recycling and putting the bags outside even when not very full. He likes picking objects up and walking off with them, so I find everything everywhere. There are not enough high shelves in the universe!!!

But he can touch his or my nose, mouth, chin and tummy on request, and helps unload the washing machine (followed by trying to reload it, and then concluding that wet pants must belong in the nappy bucket). I tried to get him to pass me clothes pegs but no joy - and he can take them apart in under 5 seconds. Today's trick was pulling all the laundry off the radiator racks and giving it to me to fold up. Shame it wasn't dry! I've started getting him to do a token bit of tidying toys into a box before bed - maybe he'll grow up to be tidier than me?

becaroo sounds like an OK plan - anything is supposed to be less stressful than buying and selling at the same time. And you could always get a really short mortgage like for 10 years. But don't underestimate how much work it is doing up somewhere, especially whn you have kids so one of you has to mind them and the other do DIY without an extra pair of hands...

ION, blood test results came back, apparently everything normal but one, which the receptionist couldn't tell me about so seeing doc on Friday. Doubt I'm pregnant though (tested the day before!), although seem to be getting SPD pains at night which is not good.

Sunshinemummy · 08/03/2010 14:28

Hi all. I'm at home today as have an itchy rash all over my face - lovely. Dr thinks I'm having an allergic reaction but haven't used anything new so I don't know what to.

DD is a climber too. On Sunday she pushed her high chair over to the kitchen counter and used it as a ladder to get onto the work surface! She also loves the kitchen bin and is always getting things out of it.

Her language is coming on thick and fast now. She's using sentences which I can understand quite a lot of the time. Things like 'daddy where are you?' etc. I think she's got about 60 or 70 words as well. I love this age - she's such a lot of fun and her and DS just adore each other. She's also got a really dirty, 60 a day smoker laugh which makes me howl.

Debs75 · 08/03/2010 14:39

Becaroo Robyn has a thing for dvd's and cd's. She takes them out of the tower then opens them up and takes the booklets out, then she either tears the paper or eats it.
The bin is also fun to mess through.
And yesterday she was eating dog food out of the dog's bowl, the wet kind not just the biscuits.
On the plus side she sat on the potty last night before her bath. Just a sit down and stand straight back up again but she was really happy to do it and enjoyed being cheered for the effort.

lollipopmother · 08/03/2010 17:58

Oh God, are we supposed to be potty training? DD pee'd in DFs work shoe last night, does that count?!

becaroo · 08/03/2010 18:34
Grin
CarrieBo · 08/03/2010 18:54

LOL lolli!! I won't be potty training ds for at least another year, don't worry!

I'm keeping my ear to the ground for that ellusive first sentence. Dd's was clear as a day at 18m3w (I know that coz ds was a month old that day. Oh and I'm a diary geek) He had about 60 words and signs at 14m (diary geek, recorded all dd's words at 14m so had to do the same for ds) and now he's got more words and the signs are falling away. He's suddenly started babble sentences, so I hope 'real' ones follow soon. I was super impressed with him today, we were in Asda and he said Thomas, Igglepiggle and car (well, he said 'ta-da, piggle, brrm which are his words for them) and I realised that he had noticed we were at monks cross shopping park, and those three rides are indeed across the other side of the complex. Clever little sausage.

Very impressed by the sentence-speaking babies! DD's best sentence so far is 'Ye, ma nay', which of course is 'Yes, my name [... is Iggle Piggle]'. i.e. she is trying to get us to sing Iggle Piggle's song to her!

Hi Starlight. Big day tomorrow for 18 months! I remember someone telling me that if you measure their height on their 18 mth birthday and double it, that is the height they will be as an adult. Is that right? If so I must remember to measure DD tomorrow. It doesn't seem right though as DH is 6 ft and I'm 5'5, but DD is still really wee.

lollipopmother · 08/03/2010 21:10

DD is a real short-ass I think, I bought her a sleepsuit today that is 12-18m and the legs are waaaaay too long, it's exactly the same with the ones from Next I got a while ago, I just assumed they must be larger than the label. She is skinny around the waist too though so maybe she'll be a runt all over!

Ohhh, does anyone fancy updating their profile with a picture of their LO taken on their 18m-birthday, I think it'll be cute, we can see what everyone looks like now!

Megletwantsittobesummer · 08/03/2010 21:56

Loving all the gardening talk . So far this year I have moved my raspberry bushes, pruned my roses and re-potted my blueberry bushes with some new acid compost. Yesterday I had ds in the garden fiddling about with mud and filling up pots of water from the water butt and dd was snuggled up the in the pushchair eating bits of cheese getting some spring sunshine.

Good idea about the photos lolli. My sister took a cute one of dd this weekend. I'll add it in a minute.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 08/03/2010 22:04

Just realised it is ds's 18 month birthday today! I will get a picture on here tomorrow.

I measured ds the other week and he was 85cm tall and 13kg

Oh yes and the big milestone today was he went to the fruit bowl and actually pointed at a banana and said 'naana'. Not amazing I know, but he's had at least one banana a day since he was 6mo and he's never attempted the word before.

pony measure her when she's two and double it, not 18m!
My brother was 3ft3 at 2 and is now 6ft6! Dd was half my height (5ft10) a month before she turned 2, so I reckon she's gonna be tall too.

Ds has only just turned 17m so there's a bit of a wait, but I'll put a photo up when we get there!

Debs75 · 09/03/2010 11:05

Pony as a rough guide you can say half the difference between you and dh so you are looking at around 5'9", give or take about 4 inches. My dad was 5'7" and mum was 5'5" dsis is 5'3" and I am 5'8". DP and I are the same height and DD1 at almost 14 is already 5'6".

Lolli will definietly put a pic up of robyn on the 19th, you might have to give me a nudge to remind me to take the pic tho, have a terrible memory atm.

becaroo · 09/03/2010 11:13

There is mathematical formula in the back of the NHS red book for working out what their height will be.

Well, have put the house on the market

Dh is refusing to countenance renting so it looks like we will have to take on a slightly bigger mortgage and add about 5 years onto our term, but hey ho.

Am going to view 3 houses on saturday! Am ridiculously excited!

Sunshinemummy · 09/03/2010 12:50

Oh DD has been 18m for a few weeks now. There's a recentish pic pf her and DS up there from a friend's visit before Xmas. She has more hair now though.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 09/03/2010 13:33

Lovely pic Sunshine

I'm glad you said the height thing was at 2yo Carrie, as I doubled ds's height and it would make him about 5'6" which would be odd as both dh and me are 5'10". I thought ds was going to be some sort of genetic throwback

Hurrah becaroo. You're not hanging about

Have put some on, but they arent that recent x

Sunshinemummy · 09/03/2010 14:45

Very cute pics Bec.

becaroo · 09/03/2010 15:06

yours too Very cute.

Debs75 · 09/03/2010 15:15

We can't have the house we wanted. The owner had put it on at the full 735 you can get from housing for a 5 bed and until the baby is born we are only entitled to a 3 so we would of been 300 a month short for 6 months. If dp was working we would be about 550 short a month. It looks like we are going to have to stay with the council or housing association. It's a pity as the house was great and the guy was happy for us to have the adaptations done. Bec I know how you feel I love looking at houses and can't wait for the property guide on a Thursday to look for my dream lottery mansion house.

Sunshinemummy · 09/03/2010 15:27

I get an e-mail from Prime Location every week showing me what I could buy in Wimbledon Village had I won £45m on the lottery

becaroo · 09/03/2010 20:05

Sorry to hear that debs Dh HATES change so is being really down on the whole thing. Has just had a major strop because I have arranegd to go and see some houses on saturday. Dont care

becaroo · 09/03/2010 20:06
