ktpie - OMG - your description of your nethers sounds awful you poor thing!!! Oh it made my eyes water I must say. Something I missed out on with the c-section...

Again thanks all for great advice. My wobbly was definitely brought on in part by the horrid injection I had to give myself for the first time but as much as I still hate it and my poor tummy is covered in bruises I am now back on track.

Aberdeen/UDC I'm Ok with wherever we go...

We have kittens!!!!!!!!!!!! They are so small - I thought they would be bigger. they are super shy and have hidden since we got them home yesterday and not eaten. I am glad to report that they have wee'd in the litter tray though. I was going to introduce Luke to them when he got home but i have now hidden them and their food and litter tray under the table inthe hpe he doesn't spot them. I don't think they'd cope!

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 07/02/2010 14:07

ktpie huge sympathies on the stitches. I cant remember if I posted it last week, but my stitches were so butchered that they ended up infected so had to get them taken out. I was then left to heal au natural. The midwife had to check out my bits every day for about two weeks and I remember her bringing a medical student along for a look because it was so rare. Very dignified it was, with me hanging off the end of the bed as the both peered and prodded up my fanjo

Anyway, I hope you're not too uncomfortable. I found baths in either tea tree oil or lavender were very helpful.

Poppy glad you found a nanny. There's a lot of horrible bugs doing the rounds just now so hope you feel better soon.

Thanks all for food suggestions a while back. Who recommended those frozen coley portions? Found them in the freezer at Tesco's today and they seem perfect. Can you remind me how many mins you do them in the microwave? The package instructions are for two or three pieces.

Neenz I also tried my hand at home-made 'baked beans' and S loved them. My sauce was tin of tomatoes, grated carrot, onion, wholegrain mustard and some dried herbs and mixed the haricot beans. S just had a bowl for lunch mixed with toast soldiers and he wolfed it down. I was also searching for new snack ideas in Tesco and brought home some organix cereal bars and some kids smoothie pouches. I spent forever looking at the ingredients of loads of different fruit pot/jelly pots/fruit in jelly/yoghurts etc looking for things that didn't have added sugar. Couldn't find anything apart from these smoothie things. Now, I'm not actually massively anal about sugar, but why oh why do they need to add it to things full of fruit (naturally sweet) that are marketed at kids?

I must go and crack on with some study. DH has just taken S to the park so I can study and its just started raining so I suspect it wont be long before they're home!

Amberc · 07/02/2010 14:37

Rachels organics yoggies don't have sugar. Dunno how much fructose there is though which may be higher than regular sugar...

abdnhiker · 07/02/2010 15:58

I'm okay with wherever suits you two - we can get most things in Aberdeen (thankfully the new sushi restaurant opened last year) - I'll send a fb message to Amber with my mobile number too. UDC - are you on facebook? I keep getting everyone confused...

abdnhiker · 07/02/2010 16:07

sorry that was so single-minded - fraser's got the flu though and has been throwing up on and off throughout the day so I'd better go give DH a break...

ktpie · 07/02/2010 17:18

Thanks for all the sympathy, feel like a right moaner now as the stitches aren't too bad today. Generally they have been a lot less painful than last time after the episiotomy, but at least when they did those ones they had already done a good job with the anaesthetic and there wasn't a big debate about which bit to sew to where! I've been using lavender in the bath but haven't tried tea tree oil yet.
DG - your stitches experience sounds horrible. It's all so undignified!

Poppy - DH is planning on taking at least Tuesday off, maybe Wednesday and hopefully will do a few half days.
Glad you have managed to find a nanny.

Neenz - we've turned the door handle to the sitting room upside down so J can't open it. Stops him wandering off to the kitchen and putting the oven on whilst I am sat breastfeeding, and it means I can separate them for short spells, if I need the loo or something.

Amber - exciting about the kittens!

We just give J the ordinary adult yoghurts, hadn't really thought about the sugar, but as he has had 2 chocolate chip cookies this afternoon (had some friends round, that's not what he normally gets) I'm not going to worry too much!
I agree about it being stupid that they add sugar to kids stuff.

Henry has been a hungry monster today and my nipples are all sore and scabby, lovely.

Upsidedowncake · 07/02/2010 18:09

You ladies are amazing with two chidlren close together. I had a bouncy chair for D - its purpose was really to say to C "hands off"!

Ktpie, glad you are feeling better. Great that your DH can take a couple of days off.

Goddess, very impressed with homemade baked beans. Very healthy.

Amber, it's great that you're back on track. I can't imagine doing taht to myself. You're amazing - but you'll still be drinking next Friday, right? Kittens. Wow. How many have you got?

Abdn, Amber, could you possibly email me? isabellawpark at gmail dot com Am thinking 730 and we could have Italian, Spanish, Turkish, Eastern European, Modern British, gastropub, seafood, Japanese ... prices from 20 per head to about 45 per head.

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 07/02/2010 20:32

Just in case I get a reputation for being a bit of an anti-sugar obsessive, S did have achoc chip muffin today . And he's quite fond of jaffa cakes .

Glad you're feeling better today ktpie.

The Friday meetup sounds like fun. Abdn I can't believe you're meeting some of the London MNers but we haven't been able to coordinate something in Scotland. Do you have any plans to come to Edinburgh again sometime soon.

Hope everyone has had a good weekend!

DebInAustria · 07/02/2010 21:40

Just checking in from London!Mil and sil(with friend) arrived late last night and we left at 7.00 this morning. Thankfuly Ethan settled straight away with Grandma and hasn't asked for me at all today. It's been total luxury not having children with us! Looking forward to shopping tomorrow with my Mum, shame I twisted my back on the plane thismorning though .

Abdn- the travelodge is good, especially considering the price in London! It's very close to Waterloo, jealous of your meet up this week, shame we couldn't co-ordinate Nigel's meeting!!

DoNotFeedMeBiscuits · 07/02/2010 22:43

who isn't fond of Jaffa cakes?!

just checking in. loads of work on my plate - have even had to record 24 tonight off to catch up now though...

C is v cool at the moment - her first sentence that was proper words that anyone could understand popped out the other week, can't rememeber if I said - it was...

"more potato Mummy."

I'm so proud!

abdnhiker · 08/02/2010 08:42

I love jaffa cakes....

Fraser's still throwing up - twice in bed last night which is horrible. DH slept in DS1's bed (fortunately a full size single) and DS1 slept with me so that we'd hear Fraser throwing up Poor wee man! he's not really holding anything down, but still is walking around okay and asking for water. When do I start to really worry?

(Amber and UDC- obviously if he is still throwing up tomorrow I wont be getting on a plane and I'll have to cancel my trip...)

PiggyPenguin · 08/02/2010 10:26

Abdn I'd start to worry if he wasn't keeping fluids down and if he starts to get lathargic. I think de-hydration is the major concern. I'd trust your instincts and get him seen straight away if you think that may be a problem.

J is being a major pain at the moment. When he gets annoyed we have progressed from lying on the floor crying to hitting or kicking whoever is annoying him. Obviously this is not good and we are struggling to get him to stop. When we tell him off he does it harder, and if I move him to the corner of the room it just gives him run up for the next karate move. I swear the other two were not this naughty...

abdnhiker · 08/02/2010 11:28

Worry over - he's kept down a large banana and a huge glass of milk for over 90 minutes... I'm sure he'll be sick again but at least I know there's some food and liquid getting in there.

sybil j is acting like my DS1 (who's 3.5). time outs work for us but then there's quite the age difference....

going · 08/02/2010 13:43

ktpie I missed your news last time I came on. Huge congratulations!!!!!
I had a no touching the baby in the moses basket/pram rule. It did work but mine were older when siblings arrived.

DomesticGoddess I made homemade baked beans yesterday which is a bit of a coincidence as I have never made them before. I tidied my cupboards and found at least 12 tins of assorted beans! I made them with bacon and sausages and they went down very well.

going · 08/02/2010 13:46

abdnhiker Good to hear F is getting better. DD1 had a tummy bug last week. On yuesday evening she complained of a tummy ache, I thought she was just trying to get a day off school as her sister wasn't in on tuesday, she threw up all over me five minutes later! AFter that she was only sick in the middle of the night and hasn't really eaten a proper meal since other than a huge breakfast everyday. She was last sick on saturday night so have sent her to school today.

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 08/02/2010 14:57

Glad Fraser is doing a bit better Abdn. I hope you don't have to cancel you're trip. Liking the idea of sausages and/or bacon in the home made baked beans. Must do that next time.

Am feeling quite domestic goddess like today . Managed to get a pork cassoulet in the slow cooker before 8.30am and have just made some very yummy leek and potato soup. Now, I know people do this kind of thing every day, while looking after an army of kids, but it's quite an achievement for this quite lazy non-cook of the house. Especially the leek and potato soup. All previous efforts have been quite bland so I'm very pleased with this.

How's the weather everywhere? No snow here but very wet and miserable.

Oh, had a question for you all (especially those with older DC's). Have I heard talk of 'balance bikes' on here before? Anyone had any experience of them?

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 08/02/2010 14:59

going also meant to say sorry about the tummy bugs round your way!

going · 08/02/2010 15:05

I bought a balance bike for dd2 when she was about 2 1/2. SHe really didn't like it but I know so many other children who have loved them. We bought it from ebay, it came from Germany and was quite a good price. It said it was from age two, but a very tall two year old!

Your food sounds lovely!

abdnhiker · 08/02/2010 15:05

DGT This was the best purchase we ever made www.islabikes.co.uk/bike_pages/rothan.html. DS1 just moved up to their 14" pedal bike and his balance was so good that he was pedalling by himself the first day. Also, he could go up to 11 km/hr on the balance bike, I used to have to run .

Amberc · 08/02/2010 15:19

Hi all, what a disaster we had this morning with the kittens! We nearly lost one for good. They are just so shy it's unbelievable - obviously have not had nearly enough handling. Mabel got into the kitchen units through a tiny hole. We took off the boards at the bottom only to find her missing. We then discovered a hole in the wall cavity and she'd got in there. Talk about panic stations. I was in bits. Anyway thank god me with my mirror on a stick and food and stuff eventually she came out of the hole (about 3 hours later). I thought we would never see her again and we've only had her two days! Mark and I spent ages aferwards sealing up all the gaps. Bloody hell what a nightmare.

Anyway Aberdeeb I'm glad Frser is better - banana and milk is the kind of thing that would make Luke throw up rather than keep it down!

abdnhiker · 08/02/2010 15:39

Amber what a nightmare - I hope you're not still shaking... and I love her name! What's the name of the other one?

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 08/02/2010 19:45

Thanks abdn and going. Abdn - what age did DS1 start using the balance bike? That was the one that had caught my eye before funnily enough!

Going it's funny how some don't take to a toy no matter how popular it is! S has a wheelie bug and he rarely shows interest in it.

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 08/02/2010 19:46

Sorry, Amber meant to say that I'm glad your kitten story ended well. Poor wee mite.

abdnhiker · 08/02/2010 20:27

DGT at two - and even that was a bit early. Fraser's desperate to try it but he's not coordinated enough and normally ends up giving up in frustration after a couple minutes - I think I need to hide it until the summer.

Upsidedowncake · 08/02/2010 20:42

Amber, ! kitten disaster. I would have been in pieces. I'm so glad that she was alright.

Going, sorry you had tummy bugs I hate it when they're ill

Abdn, glad that Fraser is now able to keep stuff down. Banana and milk would be very nutritious as well. how has been this afternoon?

Domestic, with your name, I always imagined you making marvellous little casseroles at naptime. So I am not at all surprised by your glamorous cassoulet and leek and potato soup (I think you should call it vichyssoise to match the cassoulet!) very yummy and very jealous

We all overslept horribly. We woke up at 7.55 this morning and somehow got everyone out of the house by 830 - certainly no yummy food!

C aged 4 has a balance bike and he loves it. I was very sceptical but DH got it for C's birthday and it's brilliant!
