poppy - fingers crossed for the tests - it must be stressful and with E sick on top of it, well - you deserve lots of wine and chocolate... I find it incredibly draining if one of the boys is sick.

Debs I'm shocked that the dr was so insesitive!

I have a coil sponge and was suprised at how easy it was. Did have a few months where I just wanted to pull the thing out as I felt like I was aborting a baby every month, but have got over than.
I also don't want DP to get sterilised as I can bear the fact that we won't be able to have anymore even though we really don't want another one. Just like to know it's an option!

Amberc · 23/01/2010 21:08

Hi All,

Tedi - fab news -did they tell yu what it was?

Poppy - good luck eith the tests, hopefully it is something that can be easily remedied. I have my first scan tomorrow for IVF so fingers crossed you don't need to go down this road.

Deb - It sounds like you made the right choice. hmmm - interesting comment from the doctor though...'please can I have a MAP?' 'You might have a girl this time', bizarre.

Luke woke at 6.45 today - hurrah!

DebInAustria · 23/01/2010 21:26

Hi everyone

No side effects of the MAP today just full of a cold and sick of cleaning Our Dr isn't the most sensitive of people but in fairness he was doing me a favour as somehow due to Austrian bureaucracy(sp?) we seem to be without health cover at the moment, so he should have charged me as a private patient but saw me for free!!

Just waiting for guests to arrive now, laden down with English sausages and bacon I hope!!!!......Guests have now arrived and my sausages and bacon are safely here but they have picked up the wrong suitcase and theirs isn't at the airport so someone else has done exactly the same. Just waiting for the airport to call us back, so the poor woman has no clothes!

DebInAustria · 23/01/2010 21:28

amber - yippee you got a lie in! I did as well as the older 2 got Ethan up, got him a drink and something to eat and played with him!

ktpie · 24/01/2010 08:24

Morning everyone.

Good to hear there are some lie ins going on this weekend!

Interesting contraception discussion, it's going to be a big issue for us once this baby gets here. I'm not going to go on anything hormonal as I was starting to get migraines from the pill before. I feel pathetically squeamish about the idea of the coil. Don't want to rely on condoms. DH is keen on getting the snip, I ran the whole "What if I died?" question past him and we had a bit of a chat about it but he doesn't want to base the decision on something so morbid and (hopefully) unlikely. We'll have to have a think, not going to be an issue for a little while yet

Debs - poor woman with no clothes! At least your sausages and bacon got there OK.

The camping sounds exciting Abdn! We just stick to car camping (as my Aussie friends call it) where you can park next to your tent, the easy version.

Rolf - your pimple has made me laugh!

Neenz - I think AN threads are very worrying for the first few months. I agree on getting someone to confiscate the doppler for a few weeks.

Tedi - glad it all went well at the clinic.

Only exciting news here is we popped down to the allotment yesterday and the garlic has started to grow, all very exciting. J found a pebble on the allotment he has now become fond of

Amberc · 24/01/2010 08:59

Bless J and his pebble!

Funny I can't believe 6.45 being referred to as a lie in!! Luke is at his grandparents today so I did get a proper lie in (till 7.30) but I just can't stay in bed any longer.

I had a doppler and I loved it but I don't think i used it until I was about 5 months preggers (then I used it all the time!!). I don't remember when I joined our AN thread to be honest! Not sure if the original threads still exist.

PuddingPenguin · 24/01/2010 10:04

Contraceptive - we're just using condoms now (Deb - you scared me!) but if I didn't intend to have any more I would probably go back depo-provera, it's a 3 monthly injection and when you're on it, you don't have periods, something I'm quite happy to do without!

More babies - DH and I were joking about having at least 5 (after watching cheaper by the dozen). Turns out only one of us was joking!

Been staying up far too late for a while now, so am having an earlier night tonight (it's 11pm here, doh!). Night all.

neenz · 24/01/2010 13:30

lol at hammering the doppler - you are all so right . I tried again last night and nothing so I am going to wait another week (but promise I won't be upset if I still can't find it). My sis is 9m pg and the MW took 10mins to find the HB the other day . I am feeling more positive cos I have had no bleeding or anything to suggest this pg has gone wrong, so it is very very very likely that if that is still the case at my scan then all will be fine.

Abdn, a 70/30 work split would be lovely wouldn't it. Bless your LO saying 'don't put me back in the nursery' . They really know how to pull on the heartstrings don't they! Camping sounds great.

My SIL who is pg with twins said to her DH the other night about him getting the snip after the twins are born and he went mad... saying 'I am never having a vasectomy and I don't want you to ever mention it to me again' How childish. I asked my DH and he said even if me and the kids died he wouldn't want any more anyway but I still think it is nice to have the option open to you. I figure I may want another after this one and then it won't be long till I'm menopausal (the joy) so I am sure we can get by.

Amber, hope the scan goes well. What are they looking for?

Poppy, sorry Edie is not well and hope you get some answers with the tests.

Debs, the poor woman with no clothes - that has never happened to me but I do fear it, it must really ruin your holiday! Do you ask them to bring bacon and sausage or do most people just 'know' to bring them? It would never occur to me!

TheBuggerofSuburbia · 24/01/2010 15:39

I didn't get a lie in this morning, but I did go back to bed with B for two hours, which made me feel almost human. DP and I were out last night - we had to go to the opera, as it was a joint production with both of our organisations. Oh lord, I'm never getting that 3 hours and 15 minutes of my life back. It was good, but not my cup of tea at all. I had a little too much to drink (pre-show reception, interval drinks, and by jove, I needed a g&t or two afterwards) - not much, but too much for my reduced tolerance levels... So going back to bed was much needed.

Deb, I have a mental picture of some poor woman with a suitcase full of pork products but no pants.

Abdn, good luck with working out, well, the work stuff. I would love not to work full time, but at least my boss (who I have to say has been so fab at letting me work flexibly, stay home when B has been sick, leave early, etc) has agreed I can do a day from home every week. A lot of my job involves writing, and I really can whip through it when I'm here without all of the interruptions in the office.

Happy Birthday Goddess!

Tedi, glad to hear all is good with you.

Amber and Poppy, good luck.

Ktpie, well done on the garlic. Oh what does that remind me of... oh yes, Rolf, snurk....

I have just had an altercation in Sainsbos carpark! All of the P&C spaces were full apart from one - and some horrid man and his equally vile wife drove into it - they didn't have a child with them btw. I asked them politely if they would mind letting me have it, as you all know, you need the space for getting the little monsters out - and I got a right mouthful of abuse in return. I was actually really upset by it, and I'm no shrinking violet, but I ended up just driving straight home. So I rang the store when I got back, and told them what had happened. They have just called back to apologise, and say they had also had a load of abuse and have called the police! I wish stores would put the P&C places further away from the store, and then the vile lazy bastards who can't be bothered walking would leave them alone.

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 24/01/2010 17:34

Thank you suburbia and at your sainsbo experience. Completely agree P & T spaces should be further away from the door.

at your SIL's DH too Neenz. How selfish of him to refuse to even discuss it. While I completely respect e.g. Sponge's views, I do think men should take their turn at responsibility for contraception once a couple decide the family is complete. It merits a grown up conversation at least.

Tedi, I was very pleased to read that you got the ok on Fri. Good news

granny update - she's made such a remarkable recovery they now might fit her with a pacemaker!

There was loads else I think but I've forgotten now, sorry!

SpiderWilliam · 24/01/2010 18:43

I've got the remnants of a hangover. Infact I feel worse now than I have done all day. A really cracking headache. However, it is worth if because I had such a great time out in the West End with three girl friends yesterday. We saw a matinee of Dirty Dancing the musical, which was a bit rubbish TBH but my friend whose birthday it was really loves the film, and was v excited about the whole thing. Then we had a fairly raucous dinner, and finally went to a pub where a mate of DH's was having birthday drinks. I haven't laughed so much in months and months.

Poppy - I walked past your office yesterday.

Tedi - so glad everything ok.

Ktpie - not long now. Any BHs?

BoS - sorry you had such a horrid experience at the supermarket.

DGod - wow your granny is a fighter.

Head hurts too much to type now. Have nice evenings all.

spongebrainbigpants · 24/01/2010 19:04

Bugger, you poor thing - P&T spaces drive me mad cos so many people abuse them and don't realise it's not cos mothers are too fecking lazy to walk but cos of the width of parking spaces! Not surprised you got so upset .

Goddess, great news about your gran.

Spider, your day out sounds fab - dh and I are going into London for the day for our wedding anniversary in a couple of weeks and I can't wait .

Hi to everyone else x

abdnhikinginawinterwonderland · 24/01/2010 19:26

just dropping by to say Happy Birthday Goddess! Hope you had a lovely day!

OP posts:
abdnhikinginawinterwonderland · 24/01/2010 19:32

Speaking of London (perfect timing neenz). I'm coming to London next month for a course and spending the first few nights with a friend, but on the 12th I'll stay in a hotel and then I have the morning of the 13th all to myself (bliss) and I'd love to do non-child friendly things like shop in interesting shops that you can't fit a pram in. I'm thinking things like used book stores, craft stores (yarn and fabric especially), etc. Can anyone recommend areas that might be good to stay in? I know nothing about London and everyone I ask here recommends museums but I'm not really going for that kind of culture!

OP posts:
TediBersMorRad · 24/01/2010 19:38

Don't get me started on the P&T spaces... it is the width issue, so I get annoyed when people with older children use them. And also, my Mum takes my gran shopping twice a week and my gran is disabled (not a wheelchair, just can't walk very far, so needs to park near the door, and she has a badge etc). If there are no spaces in the disabled (which are also abused but don't get me started on that!) Mum parks in the P&T. And she's had comments... Now that's not on at all. I often don't get a P&T space (with Iestyn, obv! ) so struggle in a 'normal' space. But for disabled folks, like my gran, it's often the only time they get out of the house and not having that space means no trip out. So if it's taken by a disabled badge holder mums should just struggle because we can.

Mind you, any kind of altercation like that really shakes me up. Like the time I was barred from Argos because of a row.

Breast clinic - sorry about not updating. Teaching starts tomorrow and I've got a nightmare timetable. Anyway, the consultant saw me, and reckoned it wasn't anything significant. So I had an ultrasound which showed absolutely nothing, despite the two lumps being visible through my skin with me lying down. So nothing at all. But then things went downhill when the consultant tried to explain them to me. I asked what they were and he said some lumps from my ovaries which are all hormonal. I asked if they would stop being painful and he said no but just take paracetamol. I asked whether they would go and he yes, when my ovaries give up.
So basically I have obvious lumps (may I stress that although I am flat chested these two lumps are not my boobs ) they're nothing. Which is good!

Contraception - hm, yes, interesting. Here it's avoidance (not so difficult when your DH works away unless I wanted to play away but it would have to be during the daytime ) so it's condoms when we can be bothered to. (Bothered to have sex, I should stress.) I can't do the pill - hormones make me depressed. Hence AND, and skating on thin ice with PND.

Look what I found! However, I don't agree with Burns night, and the 25th is Welsh St Dwynwen, like Valentine but better. I live round the corner from the island.

Deb glad things worked out, Neenz, things are working out for you too but the other way! . Great news on the lie ins and the hangovers - good nights out anyway!

Great news on the garlic, Ktpie! What else are you growing on your allotment? I'd quite like the veg but can't be doing with the gardening.

Deb I once lost my suitcase - actually, it was the airport not me and it was quite traumatic. Mine is (now) a funny story though. Some other time, this post is too long!

spongebrainbigpants · 24/01/2010 19:47

AH, I don't know about where to stay (although the Travel Lodge behind the old GLC building is supposed to be good - didn't someone else stay there?), but if you're looking for bookstores you can't beat Charing Cross Road. It is amazing for its range of bookshops - 2nd hand and new.

poppy34 · 24/01/2010 20:36

goddess that is great news about your granny

bugger am so sorry that you had such a moutfhful at sainsburys but tedi is right that most people hvave no idea.

tedi that is good news that it was not serious but not so good on the lack of practical help. Then again maybe we could twin our lumps as mine isnt going away either...

spider glad you had nice day out and obviously the high spot was walking past my office =dirty dancing is great fun.

ah -would agree that is a nice area that is near where I work . There is a good yarn shop also within walking distance of the old glc place -its on the cut but can explain nearer the time.

neenz are you keeping away from doppler?

contraception not an issue here obviously (for moment..part of reason I want an answer is if it doesnt happen soon I want to know what kind of precautions to take). Am with everyone who is not keen on hormones - yet when I mentioned coil,dh got all squeamish (more to do with not wanting to give up on idea of kids). the issue of vasectomy been discussed but dh doesnt fancy the op so am not pushing it.

oh and sponge - I know of at least 2 couples that have had kiddies (three in one case) after a successful reversal.

as you may be able to tell feeling bit more human as e is on the mend (felt like death warmed up and had week where was disturbed by odd days out/docs trip ) so looking forward to a more normal week.

thanks for all the lovely messages re doc -no news on test for couple of weeks (havent finished all mnine as need to test for something at end of my cycle) so as there is nothing I can do about it, am not thinking about it for now.

spongebrainbigpants · 24/01/2010 20:45

tedi, you have to tell us the story about being banned from Argos!!

poppy34 · 24/01/2010 20:50

yes how do you get banned from argos? isnt that like getting banned from a wetherspoons..(ie almost impossible).

in keepign wiht that thread that sponge was talking about re hospital - why do people come on here asking abotu kids symptoms then basically reveal its cos they can't be arsed to get calpol in, take em to doctor if really worried.....

spongebrainbigpants · 24/01/2010 20:54

@ poppy!

Tbh, I never fail to be gobsmacked at some of the bizarre threads that you get on MN - esp the ones on health. There are some very attention seeking weird people in this world!

poppy34 · 24/01/2010 20:56

too right- I've had to hide one about some woman who is always going on about her step kids (washwithcare on aibu) -difficult though her circs may be the posts smack of self obsession.

spongebrainbigpants · 24/01/2010 21:12

washwithcare is that hideous old cow that started that thread on bf and wanted to have an advert showing a woman dying of cancer cos she ff her children - she's a charmer .

I hide all her threads!

poppy34 · 24/01/2010 21:13

she must be a troll then... there is no way you can be that mad to post that many things on here..or maybe you can.

why is tv so shite at the moment?

DoNotFeedMeBiscuits · 24/01/2010 21:16

tedi Your consultant was probably talking about normal lumpy breast tissue. It is related to the ovarian hormones, and can cause quite marked areas of lumpiness, which appear normal on Ultrasound, because they are normal breast tissue, just arranged in a more prominent lump. Cysts or bad lumps look different because they have a different density. HTH

sponge I think you asked what I had thought about the AIBU thread about the woman who turned up at a hospital after she had been told to go elsewhere? I think that non-NHS staff often have very little idea of how a hospital functions, and therefore it's important that you explain your reasoning behind decisions clearly. I wonder whether her GP had done so? If they had, then she was being irrational and very self-centred, and I would have been very frustrated in having to deal with them when i\ was busy looking after the patients who were already in my fully stretched care.

BoS at the carpark. and at the not getting back the time you spent at the opera!

deb hooray that it was the lady's suitcase and not your bacon and sausages that someone stole!

we've just got back from center parcs. It was fun, rather tired though, and if anyone is considering going, be aware that the kitchens are very under-equipped for a self-catering place - there wasn't even a wooden spoon, and I had to flip the pancakes I made for breakfast with a potato masher!
