DH sometimes has it and I dont mind if other people eat it, it's just not for Q or I. If he wants to eat it when he's older I wouldn't prevent him from doing so. But I'd definitely not let him have it more than once a week at a max while he's young and in my care.

CantSleepWontSleep · 15/01/2010 13:52

Ooh yes, my hat would go very well with your dress star, on account of it being brown .

myjob - I cut strips of chicken breast, dipped them in beaten egg then dipped them in wholemeal breadcrumbs, and then dipped them back in the egg and then back in the breadcrumbs again. I wanted the coating to be thick enough to protect the chicken from drying out in the oven. Then I baked them at about 200 for a random amount of time until they looked done when I cut into one (maybe 15 mins or so).

omg I just spat out the water I was drinking when I read on this "expresso" thread (it irritates me, too.. it's espresso ffs I'm such a horrible snob sometimes and I feel badly about it, but stuff like that I just cringe) anyway I read that fajitas in a certain place in the uk were pronounced "fadge-eaters" LOL. I am giggling so hard!!! My class is having a 5 min snack break and I'm going to have to make up a funny joke to tell them to justify my actions!

red meat

50ftQueenie · 15/01/2010 14:32

Star - Jalapeenos pronounced with a "J" is a good one too. The expresso thing bothers me too. Red meat has it's place. I don't really eat it but the iron in red meat is more readily absorbed into the system then vegetable alternatives so if useful for chronic anemia.

Ekka · 15/01/2010 15:45

You see pistachio, having to give ds oatly, I'm totally on the other side of the fence from you on dairy . I can't believe how expensive oatly is for basically oats and water. And I think milk has more vitamins and nutrients in than oatly. Though I agree anything is only good in moderation! I'm just sick of the amount we seem to be spending on Oatly and can't see how on earth the price can be so high (nearly twice the price of milk)! Anyway, rant over

CSWS - sorry to hear about the car. Have you found any other options?

We love our meat . I'm currently on a mission to try and learn some veggie cooking to provide a bit more variety. Anyone recommend any good recipe books/websites? Biggest issue I think I'll have is dh's lack of interest in beans/lentils etc

50ft thats an impressive about of weight loss. I think you sent all those spare pounds over here though . I've been overindulging now I'm not on a restricted diet

50ftQueenie · 15/01/2010 15:57

Sorry Ekka. I'll try to direct them elsewhere next time, as long as they don't come back here though..... Try chickpeas as a way into beans/lentils. DH is a BIG meat eater (would possibly be a carnivore if it didn't mean he'd drop down dead from a heart attack) and he LOVES chickpeas. Since discovering them even HE will tolerate meals without meat as long as there are some chickpeas.

Pistachio - I am with you on dairy. The only time I have dairy (unless I am at someone else's house and it's in food) is a) in a cup of tea or b) when I have mozzarella. It really strikes me as bizarre that we consume something intended for baby cows. Babies and toddlers have human milk as they need it developmentally, adults do not need milk.

Myjob - Yay for weight loss! Good news and it shows that I talk some sense sometimes! Just make sure you keep it up now. Yay for new clothes too. I can't wait until I fit into all my old clothes.

Star - Black and brown...... with CSWS on that one I'm afraid. But then you'd probably look lovely in a bin bag so I doubt it matters.

Ekka · 15/01/2010 18:33

Damn, 50ft, you mean I can't just send them back . I've got chickpeas in the cupboards, so I'll give it a try....

ronshar - we were already looking nationally for the car, so not much further afield that we can go! No other viable option on the market at the moment Ekka, but we have a few months to look, and if we get to spring without having found one then at least we can try to sell dh's privately rather than have to part ex it.

Which cake have you gone for pistachio?

I'm pleased it's yummy. I will definitely make it for my birthday. It's not too lardy either. I do love that you have eaten loads of it. Cake is delicious!

RachieW · 15/01/2010 20:31

Hello- thank f* it's Friday J is very much a carnivore too, he loves chicken and mince, he's also had steak! I wanted to ask how the other babies are getting on with using cutlery. Are you all trying or are they already able to use it? We've started to give J spoons and a baby fork and he does have a go but it is still going everywhere at this stage.

J has been very cute tonight, he wandered off to find a book to read and started to sing the Thomas theme tune, in a kind of 'do do do' way- not quite getting it but nearly, when he saw his Thomas book. Maybe he'll be musical?

That cake sounds delicious Pistachio- I've just eaten 3 chocolate biscuits in the space of 5 mins J prefers finger feeding still but to be honest I've only been giving him cutlery since the Christmas holiday. He finds it hard to get the food on the spoon and twists his arm in a very odd way to get it to his mouth. Oddly though he can use a spoon brilliantly when he is pretending to feed his monkey!

CantSleepWontSleep · 15/01/2010 20:42

Send us a slice eh pistachio. I just fancy a piece right now, and I'm not normally too bothered about cake.

Rachie - ds can use a fork and/or spoon quite successfully by himself now. Has done for some while, though he's equally happy with fingers for most things.

CantSleepWontSleep · 15/01/2010 20:43

Oh he does tip the spoon a bit oddly into his mouth sometimes - he spilled loads of peas that way at lunch today.

RachieW · 15/01/2010 21:19

Pistachio & CSWS did you just keep leaving out the cutlery and let them get on with it? I imagine it comes with time, I just find it a bit frustrating when all his dinner goes flying or gets smashed with the spoon into the plate. I suppose I have to grin and bear it though?

I'm shopping for baby shower presents but for a Daddy. My best mate from work is going to be a daddy again on the 2nd of Feb. We've held baby showers for the females at work so we thought it's only fair he has one too. Am thinking of the pint half pint t-shirt CSWS that you told me about ages ago, they are so cute.
