Happy 2010 everyone! Cast your mind back to this time last year... [soppy]

Too much wine - excuse for thread title should it be shite rubbish when I read it tomorrow. Thought it was time to wave goodbye to the festive one, although perhaps we should have waited for epiphany?

Tree, your party bags sound lovely and a slab of cake and pot of dough is plenty, they'll love them.

I bought 20 party bags for a pound off ebay. They are all plain colours which match the colours of the rainbow. Also bought some rainbow striped ribbon so will put a bow on each bag. I've been watching online tutorials on decorating glamorous cupcakes and each child will get their own rainbow cupcake, some rainbow sweets and a rainbow friendship bracelet, which I will either make myself or buy 10 for 1.99 off ebay depending on time constraints.

We've also bought paper plates to save on the washing up. We bought 5 each of each rainbow colour so they'll look like a rainbow pattern when they're stacked. Bought some little plastic shot glasses to do mini rainbow jellies in as well. Have ordered some rainbow sherbety stuff (kali?) that was really, really cheap so I can fill a couple of my glass storage jars for table decoration and a big bag of rainbow lollies which can be used both for decoration and party bags. All the littlies will be using our large stock of ikea plastic plates, bowls and cups, which fortunately look quite rainbowy. The only other spends have been £2.00 ish on a pack of linking rainbow balloons to make a rainbow in the living room with and £2.50 ish on rainbow striped bunting. Fortunately we already have an oilcloth tablecloth which is covered in rainbow coloured sweets and streamers.

Have finally made a decision on which walker to get dd, after agonising over it for the best part of two days. Went for this one in the end as it made me smile because it looks like it came straight out of santa's workshop, which is not an easy thing to do at the moment. Best thing is the shop has 15 percent of everything and free delivery over £50, so got the walker and a couple of other little bits for less than the original price of the walker.

Also bought her some of those water blocks, Tree. Decided to get some after you told me how much your girls like theirs.

Hi there Dog, glad you are ok. Yep am doing a rainbow cake, which will be rainbow cake mix as well as actually being a rainbow iyswim. It will also come complete with meringue clouds and a pot of chocolate coins - may even manage to upload a photograph if it turns out right. (Surely dh can't object to a cake being made public lol!)

Its cheered me up a bit getting it all organised and ordering all the stuff. Although I'm relieved that the spending is now over and done with. Dh was starting to get a permanent frown.

Moose-cake sounds lush!!! A pic will be brilliant.

Dog- Soft-play quite quiet but stupidly I ordered a croissant as I was quite peckish. We sat the kids down and they had an apple and raisins. some time later they wanted to play again so I went back in with them. 40 mins after ordering the waitress comes over to collect the tea-tray and DH mentions that we could have gone to Tescos and bought 4 croissants for £1.40 and eaten them in this time. She apologises and says it shouldn't be much longer. DH says, thanks but I will have the 2 squid back as we are going home now! Moral of the story is, some things never change at these places!
Sorry about your friend, I did see that thread earlier, sounds horrendous but I am glad she is back feeding baby. How of the hospital to be funny about bringing a 3 day old baby in!!
Good luck for Arlo tomorrow, I am sure he will be fine!

Hackney- my friend has that dome and DD always used to play with it at her house, it does take up a lot of space. We did have the mothercare mini-trampoline and it got so much use it broke!!
Crawl through tunnels are excellent and they fold away nicely, Z loves the one at nursery and the one we have!

PatTheHammer · 03/01/2010 19:59

Oh, almost forgot.........big night for MissJ!!! Good luck and hope it all goes well, will be listening/watching later!

Dog that sounds really awful for your friend. I'm glad she has the baby with her now and hope it all starts to improve.

HZ, we have the ELC trampoline with the hidden springs. It is absolutely fabulous and not a day has passed since we got it that it hasn't been used.

I was thinking of a tunnel for H, the click clack looks great too though.

Right off for dinner.

PatTheHammer · 03/01/2010 20:30

Dog- hope you are suitably enlightened
Your womb thingy sounds terrible, poor you
Dog will be along shortly to nag everyone about feb meet-up!

120- click-clacks are also great!

right off for a bath and hair wash now. work tomorrow...Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

True uterine infection is rare Dog, but the lower grade lurgy you had can happen. Not to say it isn't unpleasant, low grade infection sounds rude doesn't it? If it gets hold it can make you quite ill. Thank God for clean birth and ab's, as infection was a major cause of death and long term illness up till the first half of 1900's. That and bleeding Hope she is on all the IV antibiotics they can throw at it, she should rally quickly once they kick in

Good luck Miss J! I'd forgotton it's that night on the telly!

120cmsOfSnow · 03/01/2010 20:34

evening tree!

Pat, sorry meant to say thank you for the party bag tips. God I'm rubbish, I think even Goldfish have longer memories than I do!

Hello 120 and books and all. That is grand news that you are throuh the worst of the pox. Poor bubbas.

This first party business is lovely isn't it.

Am hopeing Moose will put a pic of the party table on profile

We will have 5 biger kids, 3 toddlers and 2 babies. Gawd.

Have lots of gingerbread hearts left from the tree and decorations, hanging on ribbon. Might do a version of apple bobbing type game for the walkers. They will look cute hanging from ribbons, and the biscuits are soft now so easy to bite

treedelivery · 03/01/2010 20:47

Oh got distracted, dd2 is fighting sleep in bed with me, and dd2 just got up and did the hugest poo ever. Thank God that is out, it has made her anxious and stressed all day.

So yes, meant to say, good luck with work Pat. Maybe it will be ok.

moosemama · 03/01/2010 20:56

Oh Dog, your poor friend. Hope she recovers really quickly.

Tree, bought the kali at a local sweet shop, but you can get it online. They even sell it on ebay for about £3.00 for half a kilo. Some shops call it rainbow crystals though. I already have loads of glass, sweetie-style storage jars to put it in, as I have hardly any kitchen cupboards so decant everything and keep it all on open shelves.

Butterfly cake sounds lovely Books I'll put some pictures up if you will?

120cmsOfSnow · 03/01/2010 21:00

ROFL tree. DD has been doing some of those recently. They take hours and she insists that I stay in the bathroom with her whilst she cheerily notes 'this poo smells disgusting mummy.. whiiiiffffy!'. Quite. So. Let. Me. OUT!

VeryHungryLennipillar · 03/01/2010 21:08

Good luck Arlo! DD is starting on Wednesday, after months of saying she doesn't want to go she is really excited today which is such a massive relief. Just hope the excitement lasts another couple of days!

Fab news about the spotting Dog but horrid about your friend, hope she is better quickly and getting some R&R with baby on the postnatal ward.

My sister has one of those tents HKZ and I'm minding her DS and my two at hers tomorrow so will give you a review tomorrow night! Looks fun, but they are so blinking fickle aren't they the most played with toy ever in our house is a set of plastic stacking cups, followed closely by this which is the most noisy, irritating, space sapping toy and I would never have chosen it myself but gets constant use by both DCs, they love it. It is a grown up jumperoo.

That baby walker is simply gorgeous Moose, I love love love Janod toys, we bought DD some things from Germany when we went to the Christmas markets in Munich when she was 1. She still plays with them now and they look like new.

Hope tonight goes well MissJ - am getting goosebumps for you.

I wish we could come to Z's party Pat! I wish you could come to DS's! I've done food shop on tesco but still no chance of them getting to us (had no post or any other deliveries for nearly 3 weeks now as road still rubbish and not gritted ) so having it delivered to PILs. Do you think they'll make the butties for me as well as waiting in for my shop? Cheeky

We are having a total nightmare with DS's sleep atm, anyone else having trouble? He has gone from sleeping through a few weeks ago (albeit for about a month at most) to waking 2+ times a night and is taking up to 3 hours to get back down as he won't let us leave the room/let go of his hand/put him down without a major struggle. What has happened to my baby? I would put it down to separation anxiety but he seems okay in the day. My newphew is doing the exact same thing so I'm thinking it might be developmental - who's got wonder weeks handy?? I've tried co-sleeping, which works fine after about 5am, but before he just plays and pulls my hair and drives me batty - we co-lie-down rather than sleep. He's also having a bit of a nursing strike, only in the evening, but think that might be period related

Yay to scrooge emoticon Tree - although think they better get those down tomorrow else MN will have bad luck all year

Wow Moose - you should be a party planner, so much thought! My partybags are friendship bracelets that I made when DD had flu (DD sharing DS's party! Handy having two DCs 10 days apart!) for the girls and cake. Boys have cake and 'treasure' which is fools gold in little pirate cloth bags I've made. We're having a Pirates and Princesses theme which is far too gender stereotyped for my liking but DD decided and I couldn't talk her round. Anyone have any ideas for 3 year old suitable party games? So far I have bubble machine and balloons to play with while they arrive, DD's play tent and tunnel for the littlies, am going to do a treasure hunt with gold coins hidden in balloons, hokey cokey, probably cause mayhem with pass the parcel(a fight broke out at playgroup Christmas party!) and thought I might attempt musical bumps is that enough with food to fill 2 hours? Considered pinata, not sure if we would get to a shop to get one now though. Also considered pin the tail on the donkey?

Oh CBB started, best go! Apologies for any x-posts, took about an hour to type that!

PatTheHammer · 03/01/2010 21:08

120! That sounds so familiar!!!
I think the thing with party bags is to put stuff in that the kids themselves will like and not to impress the parents (we have had a few of these over the past few years where DD does a very good WTF face at some ultra-impressive twaddle!). However, also wise to avoid just filling it with sweets and choccies as that doesn't go down well with parents who already have a sugared up child demanding to eat the contents of the bag before bedtime. Tree's playdough pot is a good idea but we already bought a mini-playdough kit as the pass-the-parcel present so I think that may look like I have a playdough obsession!

Books- sorry but had to at the pencil pots! completely useless, but its the thought that counts! Cake sounds lovely.

tree- thanks the blessing is we have two inset days mon and tues so at least there are no bloody kids in but I know it will be painful being away from the DC's after a nice long, snuggly, fun time with them
P.s How long does gingerbread keep for?? DD made a gingerbread house on friday, is it still ok to eat?

p.p.s where is Eachpeach?? Has she been around lately? I know she was going back to work in january so hoping all going ok??

120cmsOfSnow · 03/01/2010 21:10

at megapost! Moose is a bad influence y'know

Who are these people?

Tree - i was thinking of doing an apple bobbing type thing too. What d'you have in mind?

Also was thinking of cutting crowns out of gold card and bringing caft bits to decorate. Do you think that would be too boring for a party?
