Just thought that I would get this started before the ante-natal thread gets filled up, not that I've had much time to post since I had DS but others might be able to multi-task better than I can!

1pet - we looked into going before I was pregnant with ds2 & I found it really confusing too. There's so much info. I think it depends on your budget too. I know people who've done it for £2000 but know someone who went recently & spent £7000 before they even got there. I found a good website when I was looking into it & I think it's on my favourites on the PC so will check later (on laptop at the moment)

GoldenSnitch · 13/03/2010 12:16

Managed my first run today.

Well, I say run - it was more of a jog/walk/jog/walk/jog/collapse for about 2k!

Still, it's been about a year since I last ran and 12 weeks since I had abdominal surgery so I suppose a slow start is allowed.

Rather proud of myself for getting out and trying between feeds and nappies and trying to get enough sleep actually (Catherine's doing well but DS is still getting up!)

Catherine's been really sick on and off for the past 3 days so I've got loads of washing to get through now. She's OK for the whole day then seems to have an odd hour where she pukes loads and loads. It's quite alarming when she does it. Doesn't seem to bother her though. Does anyone else's DC do this?

LaDiDaDi · 13/03/2010 12:21

Bloody hell GS, well done !

I feel pleased with myself for going for a walk to the park let alone a run! Have been thinking about getting a bike for my birthday though no more exercise than thinking at this stage lol!

LifeOfKate · 13/03/2010 12:37

Ooo, well done GS, I don't do running even in my single, pre-pregnancy life, so I am most impressed at 12 weeks post section!

GoldenSnitch · 13/03/2010 21:17

Ruined it all by having Chinese for dinner tonight though

MIL requested to have DS for a sleepover - she has the other 5 grandchildren too and thought it would be fun so it's just me, DH and Catherine tonight so I was being lazy and not cooking.

sparklycheerymummy · 13/03/2010 21:36

my ds is regularly sick and it has got worse in last week or two so i would say its normal here so long as still gaining weight and doing nice yellow poo..... if green i have been told to get it checked though he does a nice green poo often after a crying bout!!!

Running.....mmmm..... i ran to school the other day as was late and other parents reported the ground shaking! (and boy did my boobs hurt!)

HollyHo · 14/03/2010 08:10

Happy Mother's Day to you all!

Looks like my day will just be me and DD. DH just informed me he has to go into work earlier than he was supposed to. New job is great but short-staffed so he has to work at LOT for now...

Will still have a lovely day as it's the first Formula One race of the season! (noted previous posts, sorry -but it's my favourite!) Maybe I'll treat myself to a takeaway for dinner or something.

I hope you all have a lovely day.

GoldenSnitch · 14/03/2010 08:52

Happy Mothers Day everyone

Wish someone had told Catherine it was Mothers Day. She was up at 2am and then at 5am when she puked all over the bed and then was wide awake!!

Having quiet morning then picking DS uo on the way to the restaurant for 12. We're off to Strada - Mmmm pizza

Then it'll be F1 cach up when we get home. Luckily, I never minded watching it so when I met DH, it was easier to watch it with him than argue. Even DS loves it now

GoldenSnitch · 14/03/2010 16:32

Had to BF in Strada!! Catherine was beginning to get noisy. Managed to do it so discreetly, even my SIL didn't notice at first! Feeling a lot braver about being out on Wednesday at the Sea Life Center now

Getting annoyed with DH now though. My quiet morning was down to MIL having DS, my flowers I bought myself, the hand prints from the kids I printed myself and lunch out was organised by SIL. So far, DH has done nothing. He's warned me not to get excited about my present, which is fine, but I was with DS for an hour before the meal and an hour since the meal now and have got nothing. He's watching the recorded F1 now too so he won't remember for hours while it's on. I don't mind if it's rubbish but I'd like a card and pressie now please. Doesn't help that both SIL's were flashing brand new, expensive jewellery that they were given when they turned up at MIL's to pick up their kids.

GoldenSnitch · 14/03/2010 16:38

Oh and I had to wrap his Mum's present for him too!!

LifeOfKate · 14/03/2010 18:03

Happy Mothers Day, this is my first

I had a lovely card and bunch of flowers and DH helped Noah scribble in the card

GS - I have a theory about public bf that the more nervous you are, the more noticeable and less discreet you are! I have to say I really don't care about feeding in public (i don't even use anything to cover up with other than what my clothes and DS's head naturally cover ) and have never had any comments or even anybody noticing! DS isn't exactly a discreet eater either!

Moosy · 14/03/2010 18:44

I'm not too fussed about feeding in public either, I had to feed her in a&e waiting room last night (OOH appt for her, she's got oral thrush ) and was a but nervous about 2 18ish year old boys near me but they didn't even notice and I got a nice smiley look from an old lady

hope you've all had nice days

Claire236 · 14/03/2010 19:15

Have had a lovely day today in spite of a raging hangover from sharing 3 bottles of wine with a friend last night. Friends were having their children (almost 5 & 6 months) christened today. Then from church we all (18 of us) went out for a roast dinner & spent a very relaxed, sociable afternoon in the pub.

HollyHo · 14/03/2010 19:40

Hi,
My first Mother's Day too! Just uploaded a couple of photos of us from today.

We didn't do very much - went to visit my Mum for a couple of hours - she lives about half an hour drive away. It was the longest I have driven with just DD and I in the car. Was a bit nerve-wracking as I don't normally drive but I have borrowed my Dad's car whilst he is away. She fussed a bit but then fell asleep for the journey .

GS - I hope you get your card and present soon.

I didn't get anything and I actually feel bad saying so as to paint a bad impression of DH which isn't right. He did apologise as the first words out of his mouth this morning about not getting a card and he did work a 17 hour day yesterday. To begin with I was a bit upset but it isn't the end of the world I realised once I rationalised it. And DH gave me such a hug this morning and said all the right things - from the heart about how proud he is of me and a great Mum etc etc.

sparklycheerymummy · 14/03/2010 21:30

I had a lovely day with relatively little sick from Toby!! I bf in BHS yesterday and even got my cushion out as i feed him rugby hold and need a pillow...... totally obvious but I didnt care.... had a muslin there but he doesnt like his head covered when feeding as he is nosey!! Even fed in front of my Dad today which is more of an achievement as my parents are very uncomfy with it...... should have seen their face when dd explained how noisy my breast pump is!!! LOL..... dd also told me the other day (when i bravely let her take her dolls pram into town)..... that she was just going to give her doll a bottle while she was out and would bf when she got home..... i chuckled!! I am so glad she is so normal about it all as i dont want her growing up with the body issues i have!! the reason i didnt bf dd was cos of embarrasment!

HollyHo · 14/03/2010 22:06

Sparkly, well done - of course bf is the most natural thing in the world but I can feel so paranoid about it - and really there's nothing to be seen but it doesn't always feel that way. Some people can make you feel like you're flashing and for you and your DD to be able to talk about it as the totally natural thing it is has to be the best foundation.

DD is getting so nosey now when I feed her she seems to be testing, if I'm not careful, how far my nipple will reach when pulled as she is looking around!

She also seems to go from a 'bit peckish' to 'starving' and uncontrollable crying recently, probably due to the fact she's chomping away and not feeding previously. Anyway - was in a queue at Primark yesterday and suddenly without warning she lost it... I was waiting to pay and would have happily abandoned the few purchases I had but I couldn't move forward or backwards in the queue so I got her out of her pram and tried to settle her in my arms - on paying I asked the cashier if there was somewhere to quietly feed her - the answer was a lame, 'not really, you should go to the main shopping centre, blah blah'. My obvious only concern right then was DD who really had me with 'that cry' so I scooted around and sat on one of the stools in the shoe section amongst people trying on shoes etc. and fed her - totally discreetly - but right also next to the queue I had left.... one older lady gave me an understanding smile but otherwise I really felt like a mad woman especially from the teen cashiers, when I finished I scuttled out of there actually I must say that I felt really proud of myself.

LifeOfKate · 15/03/2010 09:35

Well done, both Sparkly and HollyHo

I have to admit, it's nice to hear some people are still bfing, as I'm beginning to feel like a bit of a social outcast here for still exclusively bfing!
There is quite a judgemental mother at baby massage who once described her SIL as an 'earth mother type' because the jarred baby food she gave was organic, and I feel like she looks down on me and thinks I'm a bit weird for bfing. Dread to think how she'd describe me if she knew I was planning to do BLW!

HollyHo · 15/03/2010 10:02

LifeOfKate - sorry, how sad for someone to be so judgmental of exbf - ridiculous... I think our DC were born on the same day, 9th December, which will make them 14 weeks on Wednesday? They are still practically newborn! I am exbf too and DD is thriving, I love it and am really happy that I have been able to do it after a tough couple of first weeks.

DD has second jabs today at least I made the appointment for the afternoon this time and I know how she is likely to react. Last time she wasn't too bad in the evening - it's just so hard to see them frightened at the point of injection. Will try not to cry on my way to the Doctor's Surgery today!

Tillyscoutsmum · 15/03/2010 10:22

Hi all - welcome to the newbies

DS has his second jabs today as well I hate it. He is officially 3 months old. I'm still bf'ing and he is over 20lb now I am much less concerned with feeding in public than I was with DD but I still dislike it sometimes - especially if I'm on my own with DS

Moosy - DS had oral thrush as well (and nappy thrush) but it cleared up quickly with Daktarin

GS - there is a Strada near the Sealife centre (just along the canal at Mailbox) if you fancied going there again

Claire236 · 15/03/2010 11:03

I don't know anyone in rl who ex bf for this long. I really admire all of you. I wish I could have done the same.

LifeOfKate - If giving organic jars makes you an earth mother type I wonder what she thinks of those of us who do the ice cube thing.

I'm also still bf too, although we have used formula to top up ebm bottles on occaision and when I went out on a hen do during the day on Saturday, but for the most part just bf.

I really struggled early on and so am really pleased to still be going at 14 weeks tomorrow - the first few weeks were really, really difficult. I am another that can only feed in the rugby ball position and thought that I must be rubbish at bf really because of that, so it's reassuring to find I'm not the only one.

Like you Lee I tried doing it the other way when out but she only ever topped up and therefore it never last long and generally was painful as she never latched properly and screamed on and off throughout! I bought a pillow that's really firm and ties around your waist which means I can feed sitting on a chair without arms. I also use a bf cover as I basically need to get my whole boob out and I am in no way subtle - whilst I know I shouldn't care it was one less thing for me to worry about early on and now it also serves as a good way of stopping any distractions for dd when she's feeding.

The pillow was £50, but best thing I've bought so far as without it I would either be a hermit or have given up bf by now I imagine. I got it from here it is a little bulky but I can shove it under the buggy or carry it over my shoulder like a bag and I'm really glad I got it
