Just thought I'd better create a new thread.

Raggie how about a trip to Burford?

katster Isaac was due his BCG tonight at health centre in Tulse Hill but they cancelled. That's near you, isn't it/ could've bumped into you! I'm glad they cancelled as I'm finding it difficult to get out in the snow. I daredn't use the sling as I'm too scared or slipping over and I'm always to worried about bus drivers not letting me on the bus to get out and about with the pram.

We tried Isaac in his cot in his room last night but I think it's going to take him a while to get used to it! For the last few weeks I've been taking him in there to play to get used to it, but this seems to have backfired. Every time I put him down he started doing his new trick of swinging his legs in the air and cackling at me! Sleepless nights all round. He's so gorgeous at the moment though. He's always laughing and has started making lots of noises and is so responsive.

Re exercise I'm going to try powerpramming when the weather improves. I can't believe it as before i got pregnant I thought it sounded ridiculous but I've quickly realised how difficult it is to fit in exercise around a baby who never naps! I'd also love to take Isaac swimming and he loves his bath. Will look into it!

Morning

Another snow day here am really getting fed up of them now. DS' nursery has opened for a few hours so managed to get him there so he can let off some steam. Ioan's jabs have been cancelled until next week.
Supposed to be heading into London tomorrow to meet some friends but not sure the trains will be running properly so that might be cancelled too - am turning into a hermit and it's not good, miss getting out and about.

Had a great evening last night, didn't have to go and settle him once after he went down at 7 but he woke twice for feeding at 2 and 5 which is unusual for him. He was feeding every 2 hours yesterday too - is there another growth spurt at 9 weeks?! At least he's slept a little longer today though so hoping it was just a one day blip. Am tired today though, not used to the extra waking and then had to get up for Ds1 as nursery didn't open.
Really want the snow to go now so life can get back to normal.

Exercise wise, going to go for brisk walks around the park when the snow thaws, hopefully that will be next week.

Should probably go for a sleep now but think I'll read my book on the sofa until he wakes up - a rare treat!

Fruitpastels · 13/01/2010 14:14

Scarlotti Feeding lots here and he is nearly 11 weeks. My boobs are hurting again from the increase milk supply as he's also getting lazy with his latching on. We had a rough night, 10pm, 1pm,4pm,6pm and then up. I did question myself if I wanted to continue to bf a couple of nights ago as I've found it so tiring lately, but then I went to the GP for a postnatal check up and he looked so healthy, gaining good weight that I changed my mind! Also, I was on my own whilst DH was away last week and that really knocked the stuffing out of me. For those who are bf - how long do you think you'll keep going for?

skorpion · 13/01/2010 14:23

erika thank you for the tip about Sainsbury's breast pads - spot on.

laugs how are you getting on with the feeding now?

Miserable day today, isn't it? Everything grey and it's still snowing! I would love to be able to leave the house, went to baby clinic yesterday and it was no fun at all: slipping and sliding in ankle-deep muddy snow. Why does nobody clear the blooming pavements??!!

ErikaMaye · 13/01/2010 14:30

Sorry for not reading through, just posting to keep the link - really struggling here at the moment. Hope all of you and your ever-growing bundles are doing well.

skorpion · 13/01/2010 14:31

fruit - I was hoping for at least six months. I'll see when I start her again.

Any idea what I can do to speed up the healing? I put lots of lansinoh or vaseline on but they're still sore... Two weeks now...

ErikaMaye · 13/01/2010 14:33

Skorpion hot and cold flannels, and make sure you let them dry properly after a feed / shower. The Johnson breast pads although more expensive are great for when you're sore. And they're totally leak proof.

tigger32 · 13/01/2010 14:33

fruitpastels Henry has started to get lazy with his latching on too, I wonered if it was because he's had a couple of bottles of ebm lately, any ideas? In answer to your question I'd like to keep going for 9 months (same as ds2) but we'll see!

He is really grumpy today, only slept for 5 - 20 mins at a time and I'm having to cuddle or feed him to get that, he has been snacking all day. If not sleeping or feeding he is screeming today, I feel really drained

helips We're going to Sherwood as it's only 40 mins down the road.

tigger32 · 13/01/2010 14:43

I love Jonnson breast pads too, they have a little dimple for the nipple, which helps if they are sensitive. Also lansinoh do breast pads which are expensive but good.

Sainsbury have 1/3 off all baby stuff including clothes, I used my money off vouchers yesterdays so got a packet each of Huggies and Pampers nappies, the Huggies new mum box, pack of huggies wipes, some swim nappies and some nappy sacks and I paid £4.93!!

PavlovtheCat · 13/01/2010 15:11

fruitpastels DH asked me that question a couple of days ago. I said I would ideally like to nurse for between 6-12months. Happy to go to 6 months and then just go with it, see how we all are. He said he would like me to review at 3months. I asked why, as i love bf and don't intend to stop then, and he said 'but you might want to' because he might want me to more like it! So i said, yes sure dear! With DD, i did 6 months as my aim, then played it by ear, as it was, she weaned herself at around 9-10months.

TOK · 13/01/2010 15:23

Jabs all over. Lord did she scream. I've never heard her cry like that before-it was heart breaking! But she has been sleeping ever since. She was due to feed at 2 but I don't want to wake her, is that wise?

fruitpastels you are doing fantastic with the bf. I gave up after 2 weeks for various reasons, namely I was struggling to recover from c section and she had my nipples chewed to pieces. I am really regretting it now. I even looked into relactation as my boobs are still leaking 6 weeks on . But I'm not sure it would be fair on ds/dh as it would be tough and very time consuming, I would basically need to stay in bed with Anya for a few days and it can take weeks to re-establish a good supply . What I'm saying is, don't make any rash decisions about it. I think I'm just going to have to live with my decision but I really am gutted.

Erika hope you are doing OK, big hugs.

katster, no it's not the bcg she had. I don't think babies get it here. I know my ds hasnt had it xx

claired21 · 13/01/2010 15:29

I'm aiming for 6 months breastfeeding. I'll probably be going back to work late July & 6 months takes us to the end of May so I thought that was enough time to change over to formula...

Or is it possible to keep it going while working 9-5 three days a week? I really don't want to express at work as they don't have the facilities and I'm not sure I would be comfortable doing it anyway. Would a morning and evening feed be enough for a baby who is 8 months old? If he was still having milk during the day, would there be any benefit in breastfeeding morning & evening and formula feeding during the day? It's all so complicated!

I'm also thoroughly fed up with the snow. I have no option but to go out every day with the baby as we have a dog who needs walking but I'm not enjoying the treacherous icy pavements at all. Unfortunately we live in a flat so don't have any gardening equipment otherwise I'd be out there clearing the street myself!

scarlotti · 13/01/2010 15:36

tigger we had a day like that yesterday but today has been much better, he even had a good long sleep at lunchtime so is much happier now!
I've noticed a difference in the latch and focus too, and we only do 1 bottle of ebm a day. I wondered if it was him getting more interested in what's going on and so not wanting to miss anything while feeding.

erika are you ok? Can I help?

fruit it will depend on work for me. I will have to go back full time so will probably have to do formula in the day but I'd like to carry on bf at home if poss. Not sure how the logistics will work out.
I have days where it all goes well and I love it, then days where I just feed constantly and then think of giving up. I'm hoping to get out more soon as that will up my confidence and make me realise how much easier it is when going out places.

scarlotti · 13/01/2010 15:50

claire x-posts - I'm hoping I can do mixed feeding when back at work. Think it will be a nice way to reconnect when I get home, plus it will get me out of making the tea
I think any extra bf is good for baby and you, so even just a morning and night feed gives antibodies etc.

TOK I'd just let her sleep. Her body will need to rest whilst it absorbs and responds to the jabs. She'll wake when she's hungry and it's normal for them to sleep lots when they have them. It's harder for the Mum's I think seeing them cry

weston · 13/01/2010 16:06

I think I will be breast feeding when she is 50 whether I want to or not or she won't take a bottle...aaggh..want her to take one bottle of formula a day but the minute anything other that boob - dummy, bottle etc goes in her mouth u think it was posion - she does the saddest cry, bottom lip out and sad eyes like how could u...i have to get out sometime!!

i think if u want to keep b/feeding and are going back to work at 6 months if u feed them morning and night they get enough milk during day with cereal, cheese and yoghurts etc

have jabs this friday..

good luck with potty training TOK my DD1 is 3 in march and I really need to do it but think will wait anothew few weeks as she is still 'adjusting'/being a diva with new baby

Laugs · 13/01/2010 17:05

Skorpion The feeding is getting better I think. Daytimes are ok but I get pretty sore in the evening when he cluster feeds. I think it's the thrush which makes it sore after I've fed, so that means if he feeds again quickly when it still hurts from the last feed, it's pretty sore. Have you managed to feed her on your breast any more at all?

Erika come and chat to us if you want to get anything off your chest or we can help with info and virtual hugs. Hope everything's ok.

Claire I carried on BF DD when I went back to work at 10 months last time. I was working in the office 2 days a week and at home 2 days, as far as I remember I gave up all but the evening feed (although I may have fed her in the morning too on the mornings I was there). I carried on because we both liked it, it was nice to bond at the end of the day, oh and she wouldn't take a bottle! I think you could prob do 2 feeds a day at that point without any need for formula or expressing, if you wished.

We've had such a busy day: 6 week check at GPs, a craft club for DD at an art gallery, and storytime at the library. I don't drive so we've had to walk everywhere. We're worn out! I really need to make it my mission to learn to drive and acquire a car asap. It's so much harder with two - DD is too old for a pushchair so I have to push DS with her holding on to the buggy and walking at snail's pace. It takes forever to get anywhere.

maman2tom · 13/01/2010 17:11

claire I' starting back in 12days and i'm planning on mixed feeding as the paed said even a small amount is good plus its a lot less faff! I'll keep you posted how it goes the plan is bottles of formula at childminders during the day (4 days a week) and bf the rest of the time. I'm planning to express at work but not keep the milk just to make sure my supply doesn't drop off too much in the beginning (I know it sounds a waste not too keep it but i'm a bit worried about keeping it cool during the long commute!)ANyway as i said thats the plan! we'll see what the lo thinks of it.

Well things are looking a bit brighter ds1 has been v.good on the potty front. Plus last night the baby was wide awake all evening but when he finaly went to sleep at midnight he slept till 7am then after a quick feed back to sleep till 11am!! Hope it's not a fluke!!

katster37 · 13/01/2010 17:25

Lemontop snap!! meant to have bcg tonight at tulse hill but i tried cancelling as too snowy, but couldn't get through. however had a missed call from unknown number so maybe it was them? we should arrange next one at same time!

sam cried 2hrs solid this pm, don't know why Anyne else have this?

katster37 · 13/01/2010 17:26

Erika totally agree re johnsons boob pads, tons better! also, tell bryn i love the video of him on your fb!

sorry 1 handed typing

weston · 13/01/2010 17:34

katster37 - have had some random unexplained crying also but think its most likely down to wind - (name given to any sort of baby pain!) as dont think it was hunger or tired which are 2 most likely

raggie · 13/01/2010 18:11

pav your posts about Reuben are like a heads up for what's about to happen to Rosa..>! Must pay lots of attention at all times. She has hit the growth spurt/feeding spree that Reuben was on the other day. She has barely been off all day and my boobs are s.o.r.e! She snoozes for about 15 mins then wakes up and is hungry for more. What a greedy guts!

skorpion · 13/01/2010 19:19

laugs I haven't tried again, don't want to make them worse. I have a bit of thrush, too, so it's sore after expressing. It's going alright, though, I think, I manage to squeeze out 120ml at a time. Just really want to get her back on the boob, I miss the closeness and the bloody sterilising is doing my head in.
What a busy day you've had! Totally opposite to mine, but I use the no driving after c-section excuse - you put me to shame.

scarlotti how are you finding the book? I'm just on the 'Snapping at partner' chapter and lo and behold feel really snappy today!

raggie that's me to follow closely then...

skorpion · 13/01/2010 20:28

Sorry to keep going on about it, but if anyone's interested, I've found a very good blog about breastfeeding

scarlotti · 13/01/2010 20:30

skorpion am enjpying the book but only just started it so not got that far through yet.

We had our first incident today! Was about to bathe DS2 when DS1 came up and decided he wanted a bath. Cut a long story short, DS1 was climbing into the bath while I was cleaning DS2's bum as he had a dirty nappy when DS1 fell backwards onto DS2 on the floor!! Cue lots of screaming from both of them ... and then lots of shouting from me to DH for leaving me to bathe them both without help.

No harm done luckily ... bet I get help at bathtime from now on though

PavlovtheCat · 13/01/2010 20:43

I am fed up. We have no oven. Our oven broke just before christmas so we just bought another second hand one, 4 months old. And its not working either. So we think it must be the gas supply. That means we have just thrown out a perfectly working cooker. Our plumber thinks it is the oven, but its a coincidence hmm? two cookers with the same fault? He will come out to look, but not able to do so til next week.
