Just thought I'd better create a new thread.

Raggie how about a trip to Burford?

longwayaway · 12/01/2010 11:40

Pav you weren't kidding - Maeve slept for seven hours last night!! That's a first. Glad we got some reward for all that fussing.

PavlovtheCat · 12/01/2010 11:41

Thanks TOK I will try the olbas oil. I have tried shower steam but problem is bathroom is cold so top half of bathroom gets lovely and steamy and bottom half stays cold and non steamy . I have some saline drops from GP which are helping a little. He does not splutter too badly when i put them in. He is a good little boy!

PavlovtheCat · 12/01/2010 11:42

WOW! longwayaway that is so impressive! Go Maeve! Did you wake up anyway or did you sleep/pass out for the entire time too? I hope she sleeps a similar amount of time tonight too. Reuben did another 4 hour stint so i am happy, and that was without quite so much fussing yesterday as the day before.

southernbelle77 · 12/01/2010 11:53

It feels like forever since I've been on. Have been trying to catch up (need to start the idea of using notepad to make notes I think)

Leah had her jabs today. The initial shock and scream where really sad, but she soon perked up and gave the nurses big smiles which was nice! She has been sleeping ever since and has missed a feed but not sure if should wake her up or not? Will make the next feed a bit bigger to top her up! She has also been prescribed colief which has been miracle stuff and she is back to the happy contented baby she was before being in pain all the time. She really is a darling!

helips thats great that Millie loved swimming! I phoned up about taking Leah but apparently they only start lessons at 5 months old here so have to wait another 3 months but certainly want to do it with her.

Pav i think putting stuff on a hankie and putting it near Rueben should be ok. We were told to do that when dd1 was tiny by the doctor, but it was 5 years ago so things may have changed!

Skorpian Really pleased that you were able to feed without it hurting too much. I hope it keeps going well for you.

Maman good luck going back to work. I am starting again in March (probably) but I work at home so its a bit different.

Talking of holidays, we are going to Eurodisney in about 3 weeks! It was going to be Florida (which would have been much better weather, lol) but decided it was not really worth it and too much work with a 3 month old! DD1 is so excited and so are we actually! We have been a fair few times before, but we are staying in the Disneyland Hotel this time which should be lovely. Only concern I have at the moment is about taking the pram on Eurostar! Does anyone that has been on it, think I would be able to take the pram? There isn't much room on the trains when it's full of luggage etc but it would be so much easier when we are there to be able to take it with us. Guess I can call them and ask!

longwayaway · 12/01/2010 11:54

I woke up two or three times, not realizing at all how much time had passed. Although at one point my boobs had leaked considerably so that should have tipped me off. And one of those times, it was because DH kneed my backside... he got an entirely accidental and reflexive kick in the shins in return

Fruitpastels · 12/01/2010 12:00

I've read through all the posts, but please excuse my lack of input today, I'm so, so tired. Had 3 very disturbed mornings with the bubba waking up at 4am and not wanting to go back to sleep! We have a good start to the nights, with a 4 hour stretch and then it all goes down hill Feeds are more regular atm so am wondering if it's a growth spurt, he is 11 weeks old. He is gaining weight well, had his postnatal check this morning (a bit late!)and he's 13lbs (above average)! So I'm very happy with that I felt totally exhausted yesterday as if my entire body was broken, so DH cooked the dinner last night, something that he needs to do more often!

DH has also taken on the role to look after DS1 and I deal with baby. DS1 is a Daddy's boy, but his behaviour isn't too good when DH is around. But DH has done it to himself, as I've always been consistent, but there is none of that when DH looks after him.

Hope everyone is having a good day

maman2tom · 12/01/2010 12:38

Hey all, well today got off to a good start as ds1 went to school with no screaming and tears (although he did try to convince me he couldn't go today as it was dark outside and we wouldn't find the school!!)Fingers crossed that the day has gone well!

southernbelle Shouldn't be a problem for the pram on eurostar there's quite a lot of room on the plateforms (the bits between carriages) I've been with my pushchair just before christmas and it was a bit of a squeeze but the train was packed so normal really. If you have a problem check with the staff as there might be more room somewhere else on the train (ive actually been quite a few time on eurotar as i work for french railways
Oh and oddly enough i used to work at eurodisney too I must take ds1 one of these days

Right baby has dropped off so i'm off for a nap too

Ninjacat · 12/01/2010 13:40

Pav boiling kettles in the room you are in can also help but keep DD out of the way.

Also raising the back legs of moses basket/cot so it is on a 30deg angle.

helips · 12/01/2010 14:30

Pav The farm that we stay on is near South Molton, it's called North Bradbury Farm. We booked it through baby friendly boltholes and it is a lovely place totally geared up for young children. You are so lucky to live in that part of the country.

maman Glad your ds went to school with no problems, hopefully he has turned a corner now in that respect!

fruit hope you get some more sleep tonight and make your dh cook again so that you can rest!

longwayaway yay to all the sleep, long may it continue!

Picked ds from nursery this morning, had missed him and was looking forward to seeing him but within 20 mins of him being home he managed to wind me up! Oh how I hate the terrible two's! I keep looking at Millie, my little Angel, and thinking you'll never be that naughty, will you?!

tigger32 · 12/01/2010 14:31

Thanks for all the holiday ideas, we don't really know where to go, we usually go camping but I really don't want to take Henry in a tent this year (maybe next year)
Helips I love the idea of staying on a farm as the older ds's would love that, I feel like I need a real relaxing but casual holiday (if that makes sense?) DH used to go to Bridlington and Whitby as a child and would love to take us there but I'm not sure where to stay.

We're going to centre parcs this Friday for the weekend, packing for 5 is going to be a challenge....

Fruitpastels I hope you can catch up on some sleep soon, I know just how you feel.

TOK · 12/01/2010 14:57

Helips I am with you on the terrible 2's. My ds went off to nursery this morning for the first time since Christmas-needless to day I was-lovingly-kicking him out the door . His energy levels seem to have tripled in the past couple of weeks and I just couldn't give him the stimulation he needs.

Anya has been sleeping for most of the day with no big bro to keep her awake. I hope this doesn't affect her sleeping tonight! Otherwise I may have to start running round the house screaming at the top of my lungs and banging on a drum constantly like ds does when he's home

maman you are so sensible sleeping when baby does. I keep forgetting to do that until she starts to wake up!

katster37 · 12/01/2010 15:55

Hi all!

Skorpion yay that boobs are feeling better!

And well done Millie on the swimming front! Fantastic! I would love to try it, but am too much of a wimp.

Sleepless not a sausage of a routine here either.... Unless you count lack of routine as a routine! Sam does what he wants and gets away with it! Also - we don't have 2 DCs but I feel like my DH doesn't always bond that well.... I know he loves him dearly, but he seems more interested in arsing on the internet and reading the paper when he has been at work all day... Maybe tiredness? I don't know... Someone once said to me that men tend to feel more involved when chn are a bit older but that seems like a bit of an excuse to me.

Pavlov the choking/green mucous sounds v scary... Did the GP offer any advice other than being coo-ey over him?! I must say, I get freaked out that Sam pukes/possets while he's lying down. He always seems to turn his head though, but does cough a bit. I suppose all babies are a bit sick while lying down? It scares me though.

Liking all this talk of holidays! We are looking at booking a holiday cottage in Dorset for May. We had booked flights to Sardinia, but I am being a wimp and refusing to go. Am scared it will be a) too hot, b) we don't speak Italian and what if we need to see a Dr or something? and c) the place we were going is remote and we would have to get a taxi from the airport and I am scared of other drivers!!

Went to baby clinic today and the scales were broken. Only they didn't know and just kept telling people their babies had lost weight/not gained enough. They said Sam had dropped from 55th centile to the 25th (!) and I went mad, and demanded they found some other scales. They refused, I argued, they eventually (reluctantly) got some, and lo and behold the first set were weighing 450 grams too light!! Which is quite a lot!! So actually he was spot on - 11lb 4oz. Yay!

BTW am so impressed with how active you all seem to be. I can't seem to do a thing. We don't have a car at the min which doesn't help, but I can't face buses/trains so everywhere we go is on foot, and I have been using the excuse of the cold for far too long now. Really should get my act together!

longwayaway · 12/01/2010 16:44

katster good on you for insisting Sam be weighed properly! How frightening for the rest of the parents

We bought a mobile today! Would you believe LO is 7 weeks tomorrow and this is her first "toy"? In the meantime she's fallen in love with our wall clock.

katster37 · 12/01/2010 17:54

Longwayaway - Sam loves our map of Paris that's on the wall, and also the big flowers on the wallpaper!! He can't feed if he's facing that wall 'cos he smiles at the flowers!!

raggie · 12/01/2010 18:16

Hi everyone!

lovely to see you back southern, katster and lovey to hear of all the exciting baby news - sleeping, swimming, spluttering, giggling, putting on weight, growth spurting...did I miss any little bubs?!

We've had a nice day - went to a ch centre for 1st time, found out tmrw they have bumps to babies programme starting so think will pop along again. Had a cuppa & Rosa was cooed over as mainly only toddlers there today. Everyone says she is 'very alert', which is great fun for interacting w her but can mean she's rather demanding. 6 weeks going on 6 yrs .

When are you allowed to take them swimming helips? After 1st jabs? Millie just had hers didnt she?

We also had an afternoon nap together, yay for mummy naps!

Oh, good top about MNing while feeding (and during her little nap after, i.e. right now )

scarlotti · 12/01/2010 18:26

Hi all

Good day here today too, although we didn't do much! Ioan seems to have gone back to 2 hourly feeding for 10 mins at a time, not sure why, and my boobs are on milk overdrive again what was I saying about missing those newborn feeling of full boobs as no more babies here? Will keep quiet from now on! He seems to have slept a fair bit today too.

Treated myself to a pedicure today and was stressing all day that the appointment was at his feed time. Little star decided to feed half hour early, then sit in his car seat and watch the lady for a bit before falling asleep! Meant the whole thing was really relaxing, and has taught me to just relax and go with his daytime flow!

Laugs · 12/01/2010 21:28

Good day here too. Went to a breastfeeding group in the morning which was really nice, then DS and I slept while DD was at nursery in the afternoon (the first time he's slept while she's been there). I was totally decadent, eating chocolate and drinking coffee in bed with my snuggly little boy next to me. What a difference a nap makes!

sleepless your DH is so cheeky taking his paternity leave as a boys holiday! I hope you have a suitable exchange planned.

helips I'd love to do the baby underwater swimming, but I'm a bit of a wimp too. Did any mums go and not do it? Your DS sounds like a clever little boy! They do Jolly Phonics at DD's nursery, so I'm thinking of buying one of those books for her. She has a CD already which she loves.

scarlotti I hope you enjoy What Mothers Do. I found it very reassuring. Might brave the library for Babyproofing Your Marriage.

BBL if you're lurking, I hope you're feeling ok this week.

tigger I went to Whitby for the day in October half term. It's a lovely place (it was packed though). I've heard Robin Hood's Bay nearby is also really nice.

pav I hope DS feels better soon.

Ninjacat · 12/01/2010 23:24

I love Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay.

ursigurke · 13/01/2010 08:06

good morning Ladies!
It seems as we all get more time now to mumsnet as it is getting difficult to keep up... almost like on the antenatal thread

swimming for babies sounds really nice but I guess not for us as I am not too keen on swimming pools. But I should definitely find a group of something for mums and babies.
BTW, what do you do to get back in shape? I guess I'll start mummy and baby yoga next week. And I am doing exercises for my pelvic floor and also abdominals when I think of it (which is not too often)

I have started to put sleeping Paula into her basket during the day (tired and trying to give the dummy did not work - she thought it is a funny game and got excited again) and she slept more than half an hour twice (which is a huge success for us).
And we try to bring her into bed earlier and awake. She still wakes up a million times until 10pm but sometimes soothing when still lying is already working, so I guess we will get there.

TOK · 13/01/2010 08:39

Well, we had a good night last night after my worries about sleeping all day meaning zero sleep at night. Anya fed at 10pm then slept til 5 ! She was back asleep again and in her basket by quarter past 5 and slept until 8 . Well rested mummy=good mood today

Anya has her jabs today, not looking forward to that. ursi how was Paula after hers? I too want to look into some mummy baby classes, maybe baby massage or something.

We are going to start potty training ds soon. He has been ready for a while but with baby arriving we didn't think it would be wise until now. Any tips and thiings that worked for you greatfully accepted!!

Trikken · 13/01/2010 09:52

morning all. sleep is getting better here too. annabelle seems to sleep from about 9- 1 then from 2-6.30 so not bad.

Had a phone call last night fom the HV, I had missed Annabelle's 8 week appts yesterday afternoon. dont know how i forgot it. so went into the dr's as i had to go in to register her with the dr's anyway and tried to rebook it but that receptionist couldnt do it so is getting the right person to phone me back and let me know later today. cant believe i did that.
why has someone replaced my brain with a seive??

TOK · 13/01/2010 09:59

Easily done Trikken, don't worry about it. My brain never returned to full function after ds. It's even worse now after Anya. At least we have something to blame it on-smooth transition from pregnancy brain to baby brain!

ursigurke · 13/01/2010 10:01

TOK, Paula was surprisingly well. She slept a lot and cried heavily/sobbed for about an hour in the afternoon when she woke up because I had tried to put her into the moses basket. But she had no fever at all (I didn't have to give her any Calpol) and those times she was awake, she was perfectly normal, smiling and even laughing out loud for the first time. Of course she had cried when she got it but just a bit. So I guess, for most children it is not that bad. Good luck for yours!

helips · 13/01/2010 10:24

Tigger ooh I love center Parcs! Which one are you going to? Hope you have a lovely time!

Tok Good luck with the jabs! Am sure Anya will be fine although there may be a few tears. I gave Millie a little bit of calpol afterwards to prevent a fever and she slept for most of the day afterwards. She was a bit grumpy in the evening but then thats pretty normal anyway!

I think most swimming classes vary with the age limit, some say after 1st set of jabs but the lady who does mine said she's had a baby who was 4 days old in her pool. However, thinking about it, who in there right mind would take a 4 day old swimming? Maybe she meant 4 weeks!

Most of the babies in my group were a few months older than Millie and all the mums were fine with the dunking. I take ds swimming so knew what was coming and wasn't worried about doing it. The babies have an instinct to hold there breath under water anyway, it really is amazing!

Ooh better dash, Millie's awake!

katster37 · 13/01/2010 10:43

Morning all!

Trikken wow, Annabelle sounds to have a good night's sleep, is that the same every night? Yay!

Raggie aaaw at Rosa! She looks gorgeous on your FB. I think Sam is a bit of an alert thing too - he just doesn't seem to like sleeping (unlike his mummy) and wants to be entertained all the time!! I seems to spend hours talking utter nonsense!

Usigurke re getting into shape, I haven't done much other than I have been on our crosstrainer which is in the old spare room. It's no impact and gentle, but I wouldn't want to do anything more strenuous as I seem to feel v tired quickly. Also going to go to mummy/baby yoga probably after Sam's 8 week check up in 2 weeks time. I think he will like it, although I am a bit scared he will scream, and/or demand food in the middle of it, since it's an hour and a half and he doesn't usually go that long without a snack!

TOK Is she having the BCG or the other ones today? Sam is having his BCG tonight, and I am scared. I don't know if it is just our area that vaccinates against TB this young, has everyone else also had this jab? We have all the other ones at 8 weeks.
