yuletidedog? (like yuletide log, whatever that is )

books, we are getting new windows next wednesday. apparently it should only take a day...

tink, books is quite right - bring a kit that will help you get into your own head space. it's amazing how stressful christmas is when it's supposed to be fun, eh...?

just had my mum round (she came to watch c while i went to the gym, then stayed for a natter) - we had a nice ranty little chat about the horrors of the town i grew up in. the place was like deliverance, but with terrible accents...

so, some friends of ours have asked us to theirs for new year's eve, but it's dependent on a babysitter - i can't seem to bring myself to ask my mum or my sister, it seems too rude, even though i think neither of them have anything planned. we are having everyone on christmas day, so it would be nice to have a family free, grown-ups drinking wine new year. we don't have a non-familial babysitter. don't know what to do. is this really pathetic of me?

tinkerbellstinkerbells · 11/12/2009 18:18

cheers ladies - kit is a great idea

120cmsOfSnow · 11/12/2009 19:06

stripey why not ask them both then they can celebrate together at yours?

stripeywoollensantahat · 11/12/2009 19:28

by jove, i think you have it... better go and clean up now. there's yoghurt everywhere [despairing emoticon]

hackneyzoowithbellson · 11/12/2009 19:39

Oh 120, that's what I was going to say...avoid the hassle/cost of babysitting, just have all social events at your house! Although then you will probably spend more on entertaining than you would have done on a babysitter. Its really hard finding someone reliable and trustworthy who isn't family. I have a couple of friends from playgroup and we sometimes take it in turns to babysit for each other as they live locally. And 120 recommended me a great babysitter who comes with lots of recommendations/references, who I have used quite a few times. But its hard. Have you guys got many friends with kids who can recommend?

Had a good day with DD, we went and saw the Gruffalo and had lunch in town afterwards, and made it back just in time for her nursery Christmas party and father christmas. DS spent the day with my friend from playgroup and was fine, we picked him up from the nursery xmas party andhe was completely happy and hadn't cried once.
On the side, my Dad's housekeepr has been in touch saying he is more an dmore confused. He thinks his house is a hotel and can't work the tv remote (something he has always been a pro at) My sister is staying with him for a few days and my brother is taking him to see the Gerontologist on Monday. His house keeper is lovely and is happy to move in during the week, so we will have to take it in turns to stay at weekends. It sounds awful, but I am meant to be going to see him tomorrow, but just can't face it. I want to get the school term and Jude's test results out the way and go next friday with a clear head. I'm kind of justifying it by the fact my brother and sister are about htis weekend.
Am a bit knackered I think! Ds has also woken, for the past three nights, at about 2am and decided it is mornng, resulting in DH or me playing with him for 2 hours befor ehe goes back down. If I try and put him down befor ehand he just screams blue murder. Any tips or advice? I am thinking of buying No Cry Sleep Solution....is it any good? I am realising how easy we had it with DD.

hackneyzoowithbellson · 11/12/2009 23:04

Where is everyone tomight. Don't say you've all gone out and got real lives going on? Sorry if I've scared you all away with my doom and gloom . Am so bored of evenings in its unbelievable. DS woke up again at half nine and only just got him down again....so need bed...

stripeywoollensantahat · 11/12/2009 23:22

am here, hkz, i thought i was the only one who wasn't out having a life... silence reigns upstairs, thankfully, though it's very hard to settle her lately, she won't lie down... i am sure ds will pass through the waking phase soon [hopeful emoticon]. no advice, we haven't had this yet - we are having screaming protest whenever a change of clothes/nappy change is required, though. fun, fun, fun really sorry to hear about your dad, and given everything that's going on with you, i think not visiting this weekend is completely reasonable. there's only so many things you can expect yourself to deal with at once, particularly if you're not getting proper sleep.

dp is going to stumble in the door shortly, i think, from her christmas work do... think it is time to put the kettle on.

120cmsOfSnow · 12/12/2009 00:51

I've been out [schock] [schock]. Very nice. a bit pissed. am going to soooo regret it in the morning (hence MNing now rather than going to bed... am desperately drinking a pint of water that H is going to get out of me in the next hour the little milk bat. grrr.)

HZ so sorry to hear about your dad. take your time to get your head in gear. definitely.

H is being a biiiig arse all night every night and someone told me today it could be a growth spurt. or teeth. or the flu. or maybe they are just being a pain in the butt? . methinks it is the latter. H will cry absolute blue murder til I appear. then lie down like a dote (in my bed, on my pillow, star fish wise) and go straight to sleep. if i pick him up and move him... cue strangled screaming. grrr. little .

can hear him now.nite all xx

120cmsOfSnow · 12/12/2009 14:33

hi tink

Gumps · 12/12/2009 16:41

Oooh I'm not well. Hangover from hell so completely self induced but god i feel awful. I also completely disgraced myself last night at my work doo, the worst bit was deciding I had to go home and just walking out, then the bouncer said there were no cabs so to sit down. He gave me some water and I passed out. I can vaguely remember telling him I had 2 kids and didn't get out much and was really sorry and that he kept telling that to people walking by followed by leave her alone the poor love as they abused me for being a drunkard. Also think I gave the taxi driver £40 for a 5 minute journey as I had hold of 2 notes and just thrust it all upon him. I managed to get in the door but collapsed on the sofa and didn't make it upstairs until 7am. Apparently S cried for 2 hours and Dh came downstairs to get him some milk and found me. He has been a star and looked after the boys all morning until he went to rugby when my dad came and took over. He has now taken the boys to rugby too.
X factor and take away for me tonight after giving my boys lots of love for being a shocking excuse of a mother. Ds1 kept feeding me pretend medicine to make me better. He is also going through a phase of wanting to be called Alfina and wearing his hair in bunches. I am deeply concerned...

stripeywoollensantahat · 13/12/2009 09:37

gumps hope you feel better today. it's a long time since i had that type of evening - which is fortunate, since with my baglady hairstyle, i imagine i'd be moved on by the police....

i think you were out and about last night too, dog...? hope it was a blast and you are not too badly wrecked today... no christmas outings for me so far but hopefully i'll manage it at some point

i think i may need one after tuesday - am taking c for swine flu vaccination tomorrow (anybody else doing this?) and from what i understand, she'll probably be ill on tuesday, which is the day we are getting our windows replaced... ah well.

hope sunday morning proceeding pleasantly at all of your houses

tackyChristmastreedelivery · 13/12/2009 18:55

Its just the best.

Gumps · 13/12/2009 18:57

Still too hungover to write much.
Tree that is AMAZING! I am in awe of you well done.
Dog are you in hangover pain? Was the hump love for me?!

hackneyzoowithbellson · 13/12/2009 19:26

...Tree that's fabulous. Well done your wonderful eggs. Its really really amazing.

Gumps loved your drunken shenanigans , good work!

Exhausted here, ended up chatting to friend in Oz for three hours last night and inadvertedly drank a whole bottle of wine in the process. Very tired today and to top it all off we had to go to see Santa int he woods...he was quite good actually, had a proper beard and everything....bit if a giveaway east london accent though "Awright my luv, sit yerself on me nee". Three santas in three days...enough already. DD doesn't even know who he is, just some old codger who keeps turning up at nursery and playgroup and giving out chocolate!
Right, going to wrap some presents [super organised emoticon] and eat some meat Only three more days of work yeeeehah!

stripeywoollensantahat · 13/12/2009 20:02

[actually more or less jumping up and down i'm so pleased emoticon] tree, you are amazing! end of august, isn't it (fingers crossed)?

on the subject of emoticons, surely it's time for the christmas ones? after all, there are people all over this thread who are virtually scurvy with yuletide cheer... in the spirit of which, i have organised an outing next week. i'll have to deal with my mil with a hangover on christmas eve, but those are the perils of the season, i guess

lasagne for me now, see you all anon
